Google
This is the best hangout spot in DC. I went on the weekend and we had the best bartender. You could tell she makes all the guests feel welcome and doesn’t hesitate to crack a joke. She has the type of personality that you remember, and you can tell she goes out of her way to establish rapport with each guest. It was very busy, but all I had to do to get a drink is speak up and ask! Will be back to see Sam no doubt.

Charlie McMahon

Google
I usually don’t love packed dive bars but this place will always stay at the top of my list of stops. Staff doesn’t seem to turnover nearly as much as other places like it, and somehow they will remember your face or name even if you don’t stop by for months. Any time someone is visiting from out of town and asks for a recommendation, I tell them to go and see Sam on Fridays. Never change!

Chris Sims

Google
Sam on the downstairs bar is amazing! Even if it’s busy she maintains her cool with a smile and grace. Major kudos to her and the staff because they put up with a lot of jerks everyday. Thank you, Sam for always a shining star amid all the darkness in the world and the idioms if the world! Give her a raise!

Katie Nelson

Google
Atmosphere was so fun and Sam was AMAZING! She had a million people ordering drinks and made her job look easy when it most definitely wasn’t. She was the best!!!

I had the best time for my 32nd birthday 🎂😎🎉💟 going to visit Catfish Comedy at Shenanigan's Pub DC! It was my very first time actually at a comedy show in-person. It was overwhelming fun. I took pictures of like 95% of the comedians I saw that night. (Their names are caption on their pictures.) I actually arrived almost an hour after 8 p.m., because I was coming from another event a mile away. I would go again for the food and parking is great (paid parking garage available across the street.) I love the whole aesthetics of the place ☘️💚 and the food I loved, def 1-3 leftovers if you buy a bunch of stuff. It's awesome to help celebrate your Celtic heritage as well, so I'm glad I could support them. I'd suggest a friend/family visit. Keep up the diverse events and hosting. It looks like the events have stretched almost a decade!

Google
PLEASE FIRE THE BARTENDER ON THE BOTTOM FLOOR!!! Had her Incredibly rude friend or something sitting in the bar, blocking everyone’s way, who berated everyone who didn’t immediately praise her bartender friend for doing the simple act of pouring a rail drink 🙄 she threw out my drink because I didn’t say “please” and “thank you” after waiting 20 minutes to order a drink. INCREDIBLY RUDE, she should probably think about why she’s not getting any tips if she treats people like that. I will not be coming back ever, do better

Google
Sam is everything that makes this bar awesome! While being crowded on weekends, she will always receive you with a smile and the least you can do is say ‘please’ and ‘thank you’!!! She’s the sweetest 🫶🏼

Google
When looking for a divey Irish Bar, you hope they have 3 things. 1. Proper beer selection. 2. A great character behind the bar. 3. Tasty Irish grub. Shenanigans scores high marks on all three! And to top that off, it was affordable too. A working man's bar, for sure, and everyone who came in sure seemed welcome. I'd go back 100%

Yelp
Good dive bar feel. But if you're looking for a pint of Guinness, go elsewhere. I don't know if it's an old keg or they don't keep the lines clean but there was literally no head on it whatsoever.

Yelp
This review would be 5 stars if there were less people. I went to Shenanigan's for the first time on Friday for the $10 open bar (came out to 11 something). The open bar is an hour. I would recommend not bringing a large back. It's very hard to walk around without spilling something. Highlights: *cool bartender *strong drinks Music was meh -- it's a good pregame spot

Yelp
What a cool place for a drink and burger. The bartender was friendly and I lucked out and got there before the "happy hour" started. That was fine by me. What I wanted was food because I had been traveling all day and a drink. Got both and a smile from the bartender. Got to talk a little to her to make my dinner not as lonely and I was thankful for that conversation. My burger was cooked perfectly and my whiskey tasted great.

Nicholas B.

Yelp
Doors were shut. "There is a New Year's party" is all we were told and we're not allowed in.
google avatar

Yelp
All kinds of Irish whiskey here. It has the popular stuff and lots of obscure ones. Shenanigan's is a place to get your drink on, Irish style. Just drinks on the menu. They don't have that much room inside, so it's not good bringing large groups with you. I love Irish whiskey so if course I like going here. It just matters when you go because there's better times than others. The best deals are on Fridays and Saturdays. It has a special for all you can drink. This is $10 for beer on tap and rails. It doesn't have the good stuff included in this of course. They have almost a hundred different kinds of Irish whiskey. Skip the Jameson. There's some good less popular brands like Paddy and Powers. It also has lots more obscure ones. These can get expensive but these are very high quality stuff. Go here and be like an Irishman. Imbibe on the best whiskey lass. Weekends are crazy but that's like every place over there.

Yelp
Sort of a college vibe on fri/sat night - the music is always great (if you like 00s) - very lively and entertaining. It's sort of a dive bar but lots of fun. Younger crowd. Their DJ, DJ Bobballoo, is hilarious- check out his Instagram- his story recently had him holding a sign that says "inflation free Friday at Shenanigans" LOL. They have "power hour" which is unlimited free drinks from 8-10 on Friday and Saturday- beware of the crowds but also the deal!

Yelp
Great atmosphere and Guinness. Great place to catch a World Cup game! Bartenders are excellent
google avatar

Yelp
They have a weekly comedy show that I like. Very traditional bar for dads lol. Tv Beer Great vibes

Maddie B.

Yelp
I went here for their Friday night $10 unlimited rails and beer on tap from 8-11. For the perspective of newly minted legal drinkers this place is amazing and perfect for a student's budget. It gets loud and very crowded fast and the upstairs is just as crowded if not more to dancing to early to late 2000s music. Perhaps not for someone older at least not during this special. Could easily be a pregame spot for cheap before a more expensive bar.

Wilfredo M.

Yelp
Been here a few times but unfortunately the bartenders did it for me. They were rude, power tripping, and even insulted someone from my party. plenty of other bars around recommend you stay clear.

Olivia S.

Yelp
EVA is the best. request her as your bartender. I had a great time! Request her she's amazing!

Yelp
So I was actually trying to go somewhere else and happened upon Shenanigan's. After walking in, I discovered this was the bar my friends and I spent St. Patty's of 2013 at, but could never remember where we were! I drank a nice Irish cider and washed it down with some delicious fish and chips. The tartar sauce was amazing, and Ted the bartender was excellent company. Very knowledgeable about Irish whiskey and beer, I had a very enjoyable time tonight. 5 star pub and they have the most extensive Irish beer and whiskey selection in all of D.C. I'll definitely be back for the shepherds pie!!!!

Yelp
Owner tried to rip me off..caught him...still overcharged me, ..would not provide itemized bill...I paid anyway..I had mixed race date..probably racis.t..im Irish...beware !...ill be contacting DC liquor board to revoke

Yelp
If I could give a 0/5 I would. Went out there Friday and their bouncers are morons. They bent my real-ID California driver's license and still let me in the bar?? If you're from outside the DMV area I would recommend skipping this bar unless you wanna pay for a new license and be interviewed by TSA for your flight home.
google avatar

Yelp
It's a small Irish pub with the best selection of Irish beers in the whole city! They have some great cream ales and red ales that I cant find anywhere else! As far as atmosphere, its small but cozy. The bartenders are good at serving people quickly. It's not a fancy place but it suits me just fine for what it is, a place to unwind and enjoy the good times

Yelp
First things first: Shenanigan's is an Irish Pub in Adams Morgan. The location is super busy on the weekend and parking is almost impossible to find. Do yourself a favor and Uber or use the expensive garage. This pub isn't large at all, we arrived on a Saturday night around 8:45 to grab a drink. The place was empty besides one couple. Upon entering we were informed they do unlimited drinks for $10 on Friday/Saturday for $10. Here's the thing, this is only slightly true. I assumed all drinks were including ((They serve cans and bottles too)) however; only tap beers and rail drinks are including. $10 is still a great deal, just know what you're getting for it. By the time 9 o'clock came around the entire bar was packed. No one could move and I swear if a Fire Marshal came by they would've shut it down. This is clearly the place to go if you want to pre game before actually going to your final destination. Randomly the half the people in the bar would leave and it would fill back up five minutes later. Shenanigan's has got to be using the worlds cheapest liquor and you can tell. The drinks are pretty crappy and the bartenders are pretty rude. I'm twenty-five and felt like I was too old for this bar. If you're fresh to the drinking scene this bar is probably for you.

Mike W.

Yelp
Eva is by far the best female bartender I've ever encountered! She is personable, knowledgeable, and absolutely amazing!

Jackie O.

Yelp
My experience here was one of the best! Amazing atmosphere! Ask for Eva shes the best bar tender ever! She's so friendly and attentive! I can't wait to come back!!

Aliya R.

Yelp
I was verbally assaulted by a patron (which isn't the bar's fault), but when I tried to do something about it, the bouncer told me I couldn't because it was the owner's son and if I continued I would be kicked out. Typical. Tried to say something to the bouncer outside about it and he was even ruder and condescending. Shortly after, the bouncer began talking to one of the customer's about my situation and they both started laughing and pointing at me. Completely unprofessional.

Yelp
When my Goddaughter said "Hey Mama Kat, let's do Happy Hour", I'm always game, as we always have good times. I was a little hesitant due to the Beer theme on the internet, yet I'm always opened for a new excursion. My chariot of Metro was a quick journey from the office, until the operator said "We will not be stopping at Woodley Park", so I had to get off at Cleveland & wait for the next train. Once that transpired, I ended up at WP/AM & went to hail my Uber. To make sure my eyes were not playing tricks on me, I did the estimating twice as it read "30-$40" for a 1.2 mile ride, child please, not for me. So I opted to walk, & after a chilly & brisk 10 minute trek, I had arrived to the little Irish (Dive) Bar. This place is tagged as DC's longest Happy Hour from 2pm-9pm. Our arrival was around 7pm, so we had enough time if we decided to stay longer. I already knew in the back of my mind that they wouldn't have Malbec (I was right), so I settled for a Cabernet Sauvignon. I appreciate Gail, the Tatted Bartender in offering me a wine glass, but I dumped into a plastic cup & with my signature bar straw, I sipped on my wine. Even though we among maybe 10 people at the time, Gail was pretty cool in making sure we were taken care of. The crew enjoyably slammed down a few rounds of their choice cocktails, we chatted for a few & we were out. I would have possibly been back for the Open Bar experience, but could only imagine the extreme level of intoxication of the masses in a small space...perhaps the upstairs is more spacious. Hence, I'm sure many people have enjoyed the Open Bar 9pm-11pm for $10...do enjoy for me. There is only one restroom for Guys & Gal which was very tight to get in & out, yet it was as clean as it needed to be for this one of kind bar/pub. Thanks Tatted Gail for making my 1st visit A-OK!

Hannah M.

Yelp
Eva is absolutely amazing! Absolutely my favorite bar in adams morgan. Always a good time with a good crew

Hunter F.

Yelp
Absolutely love this place, best spot to drink your life away on a Friday and Saturday night from 8-10. Awesome service

Aleena B.

Yelp
My friends and I attended this Pub for their early bird drink special on Saturdays. The bartender with the handle bar mustache was extremely aggressive and sexually harassing my friends and I by making vulgar references to his genitals. He was drinking heavily on the job as well. At the end of the special at 8 pm, he kicked us out of the bar stating he just did not want us there anymore for no reason. He became physically aggressive with my male friends, punching them and throwing them down the bar stairs. Members of our party are concussed and bruised after this situation. Extremely unprofessional and horrifying experience that I do not recommend any individual to come to this establishment ever.

Yelp
We ventured over to Adams Morgan when we got tired of the St. Patrick's Day Shamrock Crawl in DuPont Circle. Shenanigan's is great and has a lively crowd and friendly staff. There are really no complaints from me.
google avatar

Valerie A.

Yelp
Hard to beat $10 all you can drink on a Saturday night! 3/5 cleanliness though, which is understandable on a busy night. Bartenders were incredibly funny and friendly. Great music and atmosphere!

Anna A.

Yelp
If you want to twerk in a sauna come here!!! Lol not my thing but people seemed to LOVE it
google avatar

Nick N.

Yelp
Drinks: 3/5 Service: 4/5 Cleanliness: 4/5 Decor & Style: 3/5 Good place for Irish beers, and is your typical, small Irish pub. I was hoping for some darker craft beers but I'm at a Irish bar so that's expected. Fun place, friendly staff. Great place to bar hop if you're in AdMo.
google avatar

Laura O.

Yelp
We only stopped in to grab a drink and cool off. The bartender was friendly and made our drinks very, very stiff. Which was great. Decent prices, I guess maybe on the lower end for being a bar in DC. The atmosphere is very dark - a little dingy. It's a great hole in the wall type bar.
google avatar

Ben B.

Yelp
Very fun place to go from 9-11 for "power hour". A great deal with great drinks. The music can be very mediocre compared to other places in Adams Morgan. Overall it is a very good place to start your night out.

Erick E.

Yelp
the worst burger that I had in my whole life. take them a lot of time to serve it and had a burn patty and awful fries
google avatar

Thea M.

Yelp
Shenanigan's came highly recommended so I was sorely disappointed by my experience there. I came with a group of friends for their 9-11pm happy hour, and honestly, it probably wasn't worth it. You could only order one drink at a time and they were fairly watered down. It also took forever to be served as there was only one bartender per bar, and it was disgustingly cramped and sweaty. Super fratty crowd, which might be your scene but it's certainly not mine. There are other spots in DC which may be a bit pricier but have a much cleaner and friendlier ambiance.
google avatar

Amy P.

Yelp
I visited here this past Saturday since I heard that they had a deal: $10 open bar for two hours from 9-11. That sounded almost too good to be true but it was true! The drinks were decently strong and the place never got overly crowded. The music was fanatic and they even had a few Mardi Gras breads laying around. I highly recommend this place!
google avatar

Samuel M.

Yelp
Shenanigan's was great the atmosphere was good with music and open bar which was really cool the bartender even brought me a shot because I was tipping heavy
google avatar

Carmen B.

Yelp
My girlfriends and I came in on a late Monday night not too long before closing. Out bartender, Gill, was exceptional. He was friendly, witty and super efficient. I also have to give him extra credit for dealing with a few of us who had more than several beverages before coming in (you know how ladies nights can be ;) ) He even turned up the music for me since I paid to play several songs on the modern jukebox. Nothing negative to say what so ever. Thanks so much for taking great care of us and we'll definitely visit again soon!
google avatar

Sydney M.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I went in last night while on vacation for not birthday in DC and really enjoyed it! The atmosphere is just how we like it back at home at our normal bars we go to. Also the bartender was super chill and friendly!!
google avatar

Ben G.

Yelp
Bouncer was very rude and called me an "asshole" because I walked in and he failed to card me. Nobody was at the door so I walked in and he grabbed my arm inappropriately, called me an asshole and said I can't go in. Wow! You suck Shenanigans, but your doorman sucks more. Will leave bad reviews everywhere on social media.
google avatar

Pascal B.

Yelp
The Friday and Saturday 9pm-11pm $10 all you can drink deal is pretty sweet. Since it's quite sweet, expect many college kids rolling in around 10. Which means 9-10 is prime pregaming hour. After that it's hard to get a drink. They could use another bartender or two as it seems they're a tad understaffed at times. Beware, they will play songs from the early 2000's to tap into your nostalgia to keep you past 11. Overall it's a great bar.

Jesse E.

Yelp
Amazing service! The bartender Ross is a super cool guy, very friendly and will take care of you!
google avatar

Maxine T.

Yelp
Never again! This bar was absolutely disgusting! THERE WAS A BUG IN MY DRINK and when I told the bartender he was VERY RUDE and didn't even apologize or wanted to make me a new one. He proceeded to yell at me and said "don't expect me to be nice..." basically saying it was my fault that I grabbed a plastic cup from the pile of cups on the bar to transfer my drink into from the glass one that he gave me. This place was dirty and the upstairs felt like a sauna. I would never recommend this place to anyone visiting DC!
google avatar

Andrew C.

Yelp
The definitive "pre-game" spot for the college students and a perfect place to start the night and get more than your money's worth in alcohol. For $10, you get a stamp on your hand and an "Open Bar" (with lots of restrictions) between 9pm-11pm. My group easily had about 5 rounds of gin&tonics/vodka-sodas, but the place is small and packed, and getting drinks can be quite difficult once the crowd rolls in. The environment is very much catered towards the college crowd, and fits in perfectly with the Adams Morgan vibe. Two stories, "chest-to-chest" (/JasonDerulo) packed, and lots of club-like energy. Also, the DJ here on a Friday night was awesome- don't know his name, but he took songs on request, and didn't ignore any as long as he had the song. I requested California Love by Tupac and it was on within 5 minutes. If you're hitting Adams Morgan for the night, stop by early, take full advantage of the Open Bar, and jam to your favorite songs before hitting the clubs.
google avatar

Al H.

Yelp
Spending the early part of the day in Adams Morgan for St. Patrick's Day. Stopped in Shenanigan's for some Irish culture. Had a Guinness Irish beer which was poured perfectly. The pub was crowded with mostly a younger drinking crowd which is good. A few of us somewhat older persons fit right in and we all sang some Irish songs which was fun. The Adams Morgan area of Northwest DC is a good stop on a Saturday with many choices of shops and eating/drinking establishments. I will visit again when in Adams Morgan.
google avatar

Bunny E.

Yelp
If you want a place for cheap drinks at a college bar, you've come to the right place. If you do not want to deal with the younger crowd, do not go here. I stumbled (literally) in Adam's Morgan and stopped by here for the open bar 9-11PM on Saturday nights. $10 at the door for all you can drink. If you don't have cash, you can go into the bar and pay the $10 with your credit card. Bring the receipt back to the doorman and then they will put a wrist band on you. Saw a lot of freshly turned 21 year olds. That made me feel real old. Saw one guy sleeping and head down at a table. Geez. But anyway, thats the type of place this is. Go here if you want really cheap drinks and you want to feel 21/22 again.
google avatar

Kim R.

Yelp
Well, the drinks are really cheap, which is always a plus. They have a dance floor type area but the music wasn't really dance-able music, which meant everyone was kind of standing there awkwardly swaying. Not sure if it was just a bad night for music selection or if it is always like this. As it got later in the night (on Saturday), it became very obvious that this is a college bar. Every one seemed to know each other and seemed 21 years old - no older. So take that as you will, if you like that then great, if not, then beware lol.

Shreyan S.

Yelp
We got charged $15.40 for two yeunglings. I thought there was no way so we double checked with the bartender who insisted it was right. We were there Monday night for a comedy show and they'd advertised drink specials--there's no way a yeungling would be more than $7 right? So I checked online, and they list $3 domestic drafts on mondays. Either their website and verbal advertising are gross lies or their bartender stole from us. Incredibly disappointing either way, never going back, don't waste your time or money.
google avatar

Katie B.

Yelp
I wish I could give this place more stars. I love a good dive bar, and it's been tough to find one in DC. I thought this might be an interesting, quirky spot, but was disappointed. Irish themed bar, which is always fun. Good music, weird decor. Terrible service. My friends and I were the only group in the entire place. There were 3 staff members on. Nobody moved a muscle to help us until we approached them after a few minutes. We all ordered 1 round- basic beers and mixed drinks. Bartender couldn't get it right and grumbled about splitting the tab. We ordered a couple food items, which were delicious. Great bar food. Took a while to get out. Probably won't be back.
google avatar

Ben S.

Yelp
I went here on a Saturday night with a group of friends even though I knew better (I'm actually a little bit embarrassed to even write a review). I was even more turned off when the bouncer didn't let in the three black men in front of us because he didn't like the look of their jeans or the bandanas that they were wearing. There isn't much Irish about this place and it isn't really a dive bar on a Saturday night, more like a really low grade dance club for the post college set. They had a happy hour which was all you can drink for $10 from 9-11 and then from 11:00-11:30 all rail drinks were $1 (which was better than the happy hour deal was). As you can imagine, the level of inebriation was really high. The place was really too crowded to dance and felt claustrophobic. The back room had a couple of college football games on. Drinks were cheap and nothing special. Music was well known dance hits. I'm just too old for this scene but they can have a second star for cheap drinks.
google avatar

Todd N.

Yelp
Seems like a nice hangout place, but the cover charge was $10 a person when we went. Granted, they say that drinks were free (certain ones) with that cover charge, which can count up and make some sense. However, I also got the feel that this bar is for a much younger crowd. You're looking at college-aged kids in this venue, which there's nothing wrong with that. Simply noting that I need to try out some other bars that hopefully have more diverse demographics. Also, the venue was a lot smaller than anticipated and got packed relatively quick. You had to plan when you were going to move anywhere. The pub might be nice for a younger crowd, but I'll take to looking for other recommendations. Still feeling out D.C. and best places to go.

Bruce M.

Yelp
Great pub, ice cold beer (which is very hars to find in dc), friendly staff. I dropped a large bill as I was leaving and the bartender chased me down to return it to me. Will come here everytime I'm in the DC area.
google avatar

Damian C.

Yelp
Have you ever walked into a place and thought, "gosh, I feel really old"? To the left you have some guy basically swallowing a girl's face. To the right you have three dudes in a chugging contest. In front of you you've got several twenty-somethings grinding all over each other like a really bad middle school dance. (and, on that note, since when did grinding come back?!) Behind you are the stairs and your best instincts tell you "Damian, it's time to go." Ugh, to be a grown-up. But they have decent music, nice bartenders, a functioning, although questionable, bathroom and, best of all, cheap drinks. Pretty fun, I can dig those things. I guess sometimes a blast to the past is a bit refreshing.
google avatar

Margaret Kathryn L.

Yelp
Bar tender told me to "fuck off" after I asked for water. I needed water after drinking a few drinks throughout the night and when I asked to have a cup of water he told me repeatedly to "fuck off" and "move to the other side of the bar." I was very confused because he had easy access to water and myself and my friends clearly needed and asked for water. Every bar I have attended in the past has been quick to offer water when asked so I was extremely confused and frustrated when this bartender repeatedly and angrily refused. I would NOT SUGGEST in the future. The bar tender was extremely rude and combative throughout the night and when asked for water became extremely hostile. I will not go again and I suggest ALL WOMEN BE WARNED AND STAY AWAY as this bar tender clearly has no interest in keeping young women safe or hydrated.
