"Sherpa Kitchen serves Himalayan cuisine in a laid-back atmosphere. Diners enjoy momos, samosas, and curries alongside Himalayan spiced iced tea. Sherpa Kitchen has become a Burlington favorite and uses locally sourced ingredients and spices central to the traditional recipes of Nepalese, Tibetan, and Sherpa cuisine. Chicken tikka masala, white fish curry, and beef chow mein are top hits." - Anna Darrow, Heather Platt

"This local favourite serves up comforting Nepalese and Himalayan fare including curries, stir-fried noodles, momos (dumplings) and Sherpa stew. Wash it all down with a tall glass of house made yogurt mango lassi, Nepali Chai, Himalayan spiced iced tea, or a can of Vermont’s famous Heady Topper beer. The lunch special of an appetizer, main and drink for just $8.99 might be the best deal in town." - Heather Platt

Delicious food at a very affordable price! We first had a couple of lunch specials. It included one drink, one appetizer, and one main course item. Various options were available for the drinks, the appetizers, and the main course items. The owner was very humble and we enjoyed a nice conversation with him. The restaurant also had a nice ambience. We liked the food so much that we again went back on the same day to order takeout for dinner. This time we ordered chicken chowmein and chicken sherpa stew. Both were delicious!

TLDR: Sherpa Kitchen is on the more pricey side but I was paying for quality. Sherpa Kitchen has incredible flavor, a fun atmosphere, and a down home vibe. It is worth a visit. Or 10. The results at Sherpa, from my experience, are always consistent. The momo was made to order and was soft with an elegant roll. They were generously filled and seasoned. Sometimes momo wrappers can get slimy or the wrapper is too thick but not so with these. The wrapper is just the right width and presents the perfect stage to the let the filling and the chutney shine. There is a great crunch with the pakora. The sour and savory notes play nicely. Combination Momo $14.99 Pakora $6.50 Soda: $2.00 Grand total: $23.49 $23.49 seems steep for one person but here’s why I’m convinced it is worth every penny: 1.) Sherpa Kitchen is one of the few places in Burlington with these dishes and flavors. Going is a unique experience, 2.) The food is great and there are many leftovers, 3.) Sometimes they run specials that make the food less expensive. They also sometimes have a buffet that can lower the cost. I also liked the welcoming vibe, as if I was walking into an Auntie’s kitchen. They were sweet and helpful but one of the elder ladies joked about why I needed 3 orders of dumplings. I thought it was funny. It’s one of those special places where you know the employees and the owner are genuine people who truly treat dining in as an experience to be had not just food to serve. The food alone is worth a visit. I was fine paying for quality and I enjoyed dining in. If you like a fun, laid back dining experience with quality food, and great flavor Sherpa Kitchen is a good choice.

We were in Vermont for about 5 days, and were really craving a comfort meal on the last night. Went to Sherpa, amazing food. We could barely stop for the picture😂 Definitely try this place out if you get a chance in the heart of Burlington, VT

Google
This was such a fantastic lunch! The atmosphere of the restaurant was so lovely, beautiful music and decor. The service was amazing, the attention to detail was so considerate and we felt very taken care of. The flavor of our food was so good! Best lunch in Burlington!!

Google
Great authentic Nepalese restaurant. Good value for money. Service was very friendly. If you are in a rush this is not the place. Food was very good. The lunch special is a great deal. Lunch deal portions are adequate. One of us had the beef chow mein which was amazing and a big portion. The lentil soup and the mango drink were also really good. The restaurant atmosphere is ok, not a cozy place, a little bleak.

Google
We went two days in a row we enjoyed it so much. The atmosphere is amazing. Not too gaudy but subtle and authentic. The food is DELICIOUS and the drinks should not be skipped. I never had Aloo Chop before and it was outstanding. Best mango lassi I think I’ve had. So much mango flavor but not too sweet. The prices are so reasonable too.

Google
We were 4 people, this is our bill. We paid cash for the food with tips for the service. We noticed the bill after 2 days, and then realized 18% gratuity tip was added. No one informed about this while we ate at the restaurant. Why would you add Gratuity and still accept tips? Usually gratuity is added when there are 6 or more people and we will be informed beforehand. We were not informed about this and accepted Tips as extra. Truly unprofessional!

Google
Delicious and well-priced lunch menu! The spiced ice tea is a revelation. We thoroughly enjoyed our meals, especially the somosas.

Yelp
The most amazing staff you will ever encounter, yes it may take a bit sometimes to wait for your food (that's because they are so yummy, everyone wants them) but they always make up for it with a smile and sometimes they even give me a free drink. Love this place been going forever 10/10

Yelp
My favorite restaurant in Burlington. As a fan of Indian food, I at first had trouble finding a satisfactory Indian-style (Nepalese) dinner in Burlington. I have visited many times and it is first on my list to bring people out. Some of my favorite dishes are the vegetable pakora, the beef thukpa, the samosas, and the beef momo. I always order the hot chai. Each dish has a very complex flavor profile, with spice mixes which differ from typical indian fare due to the nepalese origin. The pakora batter is delicious and perfectly compliments both of the chutneys which are beautifully striped across the dish. This dish has the best presentation, and I always order it when I bring people with me here. The samosas have a similar flavor profile, but are a more hearty app due to their potato filling. The beef thukpa comes in the most delicious beef broth I have ever experienced. Typically it is impossible to find beef dressed in indian spices, but this dish shows the strength of the combination. This dish combines the best parts of ramen, indian spices, and beef stew and is perfect to warm up on a rainy day. The broth makes it super filling, and I have a hard time ordering anything else anymore. The beef momos have a totally different vibe but are equally delicious. The soft cool dough brings some balance to the spicy meat inside. Like every dish, the flavor is complex and unique. The staff are always super helpful, and have treated me well both when I have come alone, and with others. The location is great and there is often street parking within a block. Super cool decor inside, and super reasonably priced.

Yelp
The atmosphere is subpar with booth seating and fluorescent lighting. Plates came out with a sticky residue, though could be the finish as they were plastic. The bathroom was dirty, the floor had mud tracks all over which could be in part due to it being mud season, but we came exactly at 5pm which is opening of the restaurant. However, upon walking through the front door, the foods smell fragrant and amazing. Prices are very reasonable. Most dishes between $12-15. We had the combination dumplings, which were good, the vegetable stew, which as piping hot with good flavor (my favorite), the chicken tikka masala (not my favorite, it was sweet and tasted a little burnt) and the Sherpa bread, which was essentially a rolled steamed bun. Overall, the food was and service was very friendly, welcoming, and attentive. Maybe would've been better as take out??

Yelp
It was first time ever having Nepalese or Himalayan food and must say I was impressed. We wanted to try something new and some of the other people we had spoken to highly recommended the Sherpa Kitchen. It was a short walk from our hotel so we gave it a try. It's very small but when we arrived there wasn't a crowd at all. I think we came right before the lunch rush around 11:30 am. You seat yourself and there only appeared to be one waiter working. He brought out water in the cutest hand made copper cups. I chose to get the lunch special that came with deep fried onions, a homemade lemonade, and the lamb curry with rice. Everything was absolutely delicious and not too spicy. The lamb was very tender and didn't taste too gamey. Service was quick and the waiter was very friendly. The prices were reasonable as well. My lunch special was 16.99 and it was enough to fill me up. We also had a platter of the MoMo's. They are steamed dumplings filled with veggies, Chicken, or beef. The platter had 4 of each. I preferred the veggie ones. To me they had the most flavor.

S B.

Yelp
Ordered four dishes and each was a knockout. Delicate, interesting flavors, made without anything extra or unnecessary. Proves you can have comfort food that isn't heavy.

Shane M.

Yelp
I absolutely love the food and service at the Sherpa Kitchen. I ordered the chicken tiki masala lunch special and it was delicious. The Momo's are also very good, think of them as a Nepalese dumpling. Very affordable for Burlington and the surrounding area. I recommend doing some book shopping at the many local bookstores and finish with lunch at Sherpa Kitchen. You won't regret it.

Monica D.

Yelp
My partner and I came in for lunch, they had great lunch specials with perfect portions. Not too big for lunch, yet you're definitely full after all of the courses. The food was delicious. I personally could've had a bit more spice on the chicken masala, I'm Mexican, but it was still delicious without it. I recommend the lentil soup and the chai! Definitely worth a try and worth the price.

Crystal P.

Yelp
Wonderful experience! Some friends and I stopped in for lunch and enjoyed everything we ordered. The spiced tea was refreshing, my chicken tikka masala was perfect. Plus, our server was extremely tentative and friendly throughout our visit. I would definitely recommend Sherpa Kitchen!

Ryan F.

Yelp
Love the service had a great time fun for the family amazing food and cool little restaurant cool cup and very busy

Jan L.

Yelp
Ordered dinner to go to break my fast and received cold food. I received more curry than actual vegetables. Maybe this restaurant was good back in the days, but not so much now. I would try it again but i don't want to waste $40 again.

Ciara M.

Yelp
Amazing food! I have never tried Nepali food before but everything we tried was so good! Vegetable soup, vegetable lo mien, vegetable momos. The iced tea was chai spiced and very tasty. The service was slow but the food was so good it didn't even bother us!

michelle p.

Yelp
I ordered the chicken Momos and they were delicious. I ate them as my meal so I was happy with the portion size. I would definitely return on my next trip to Burlington.

Kate F.

Yelp
really good momos wish i got to try more of their menu!! other people's food looked amazing as well i was just stopping for a to go snack! 100% recommend trying this place out :)

Yuan K.

Yelp
So grateful that a friend recommended Sherpa Kitchen for our first trip to Burlington. We had an incredible dinner and will definitely be back. Portions were huge, and everything was well seasoned (even the chicken in the tikka masala was outstanding on its own with minimal sauce). Definitely try the momos; they are worth the hype!

Annie J.

Yelp
This place was one of the very few places in New England that reminds me of my grandma's cooking! So traditional and so delicious. The momo dumplings are handmade which was hard to find these days, and the lamb stew is my absolute favorite (if you are into Asian cuisine I would highly recommend). I am so glad I checked out this restaurant on my trip to Burlington.

Natalie M.

Yelp
One of my favorite places to eat lunch in Burlington. Affordable prices and delicious.

Lisah A.

Yelp
I'm no expert on Nepali food but the menu was an interesting mix of Indian, Pakistani and Chinese cuisine. I had a curry and my partner has the Momo - both were delicious. The service was quick, efficient and very personable The Church Street area can be a bear for finding a reservation, especially on a weekend. Sherpa Kitchen was readily available, inexpensive, and delicious. We'd certainly go back!

Rei M.

Yelp
Stopped by here for a late lunch on a Sunday recently. Got the combination momo appetizer, which comes with 4 of each type of momo (beef, chicken, veggie). All three momos were delicious! The sauce they come with was also great but honestly, they didn't need sauce because they were so flavorful on their own. Also tried the vegetable pakora. It comes with two pieces of perfectly fried, well-seasoned pakoras with two types of sauce drizzled on the plate. Again, like with the momos, both sauces were really nice but the pakoras stand perfectly well on their own. For the entree, went with the lamb curry, which was also fantastic. It was moderately spicy (they didn't ask for a spice level), definitely not distracting from the overall flavor, the lamb was very tender, rice was fairly well-cooked. My only critique is that I wish there was more lamb in the curry (there were 5 pieces). Service was prompt and very friendly. Will absolutely come back next time I'm in Burlington.

M W.

Yelp
Amazing food! We had the beef thupka, lamb stew with Sherpa bread, beef momos and the chicken tikka masala. We also got appetizers of the aloo chat and vegetable pakoras everything was w seasoned, vibrant and delicious! the entire staff was friendly and helpful and we went away with full stomachs and hearts!

Yelp
I was super excited to try this place after reading so many positive reviews, but my family and I ended up being super disappointed. The portions were quite small. I ordered the saag, and it was nothing like any saag I've ever had before. It was bright red with only a few pieces of spinach, and all you could taste was tomato. It was really bizarre. There were only 2-3 small pieces of chicken in the entire dish. Also, they told us that they were out of samosas, but two tables (who were seated about 10min after they took our orders) received them, so I was a bit confused about that. That being said, the staff was super friendly. I greatly appreciate the welcoming atmosphere, but we won't be eating there again.

Rachel H.

Yelp
This review is for their Sunday Buffet only. Pros: quite a few items to give variety in flavor, spice, seasonings, etc. Chai was creamy and delicious. The chicken momos were all of our favorite items. Cons: lentil soup was a bit bland and thin, the fried cabbage item was not entirely fresh and a few dishes were pretty greasy (but maybe that's normal for Nepali food?). This was my first real Nepali experience and while I'm pretty familiar with Indian, Moroccan, and other international cuisine, I had nothing else to compare this to! Our host was friendly and helpful when I pointed out their Chai tea was out. Bathrooms were very clean. We had a stroller he happily let us store in the front corner behind our booth.

C B.

Yelp
When lunch special was $9.99, this place was a easy go-to. I know everything is more expensive now, but, now lunch is $13.99 for veg and $15.98 if you want meat. Plus, portions seem smaller. It's still good, but no longer a great value and some other places are more attractive.

Diana B.

Yelp
Take out Date: August 31, 2020 Hubs wanted to eat here for the first dinner in Vermont. I find myself not really caring about food much anymore except to just eat whatever's gluten free and shove it down as fast as I can if I'm feeling hungry. He likes Indian so he choose to eat here. I didn't like it so much it was a little on the spicey side for me and I was basically shoving it down in the hotel room standing up while he got to eat at the desk in comfort and take his time with his food because that's how mom life gets at times. I'd update my review if I came again, maybe got to sit down at the place and enjoy my food more slowly and have time to even choose something lol

Brent N.

Yelp
Had the lunch special and it was amazing and at an excellent price. So tender and flavorful. Had the lamb bindalu and the lentil soup. The staff was friendly and attentive. Just the right amount of food for lunch.

Cheryl D.

Yelp
This is the most delicious food I have ever tasted. I love the people who work here and serve us the most delicious things I have ever tasted. Don't hesitate. Try this place gosh. You won't be disappointed.

Andrea R.

Yelp
Delicious! Food came out fast and the service was super friendly and attention-oriented. Definitely recommend this place if you're in town. We got the Aloo Chop and they were fried to perfection. As a second dish we ordered their curry chicken and sherpa bread and they were also good. My only complaint is that the sauces served with the bread and aloo chop were really cold. I think its supposed to be thst way but we asked them to heat it up and it tasted amazing! The prices were super affordable too. For the aloo chop, curry chicken (includes rice and a delicious crispy bread), and the sherpa bread, the bill was $25 without tip.

Tom H.

Yelp
Tonight, we ordered a take-out buffet and we're not disappointed - everything was great. Ordering a Thali Veg and a Thali non-Veg gave us a wonderful sampling with more then enough food for the two of us. We also ordered the beet salad that was complimented with the mozzarella and spinach and a very tasty dressing. We really enjoyed their mixed pickles that were included. It would great to get their recipe for those pickles.... The Lassi was excellent too! There was so much food that we saved the order of Momos (combination) and the rice puddings for tomorrow's lunch treat! Fantastic meal at a very reasonable price. Wish that we lived closer - 400 miles (one way) is a little too far to go out for dinner but when you're in town you have to give Sherpa Kitchen a try! Thanks again for a great dinner!

Jake U.

Yelp
Stopped by for dinner and ordered the Daal soup and Chicken Curry. Both were very tasteful and delicious! Service was great too. I'll return and explore other menu options that next time I'm in town.

Marissa C.

Yelp
Delicious food. Clearly a local favorite too. The employees are clearly working as quickly as they can, but like everywhere else, are short staffed so we had a little bit for food. However, when we did get the food, it was so delicious and we ate every last bit

Susan S.

Yelp
The momo are fantastic, as is the mango lasse. The tikka was a bit sweet. The chow mein was pretty good. Overall, I would return.

Tim D.

Yelp
not only is the food average at best, but the owner and yelp are also dishonest. I placed an order on yelp, to be fulfilled through delivery.com. I did get a confirmation from delivery.com but not yelp, but didn't think anything of it. When we arrived to pick up the order, it wasn't ready and the owner claimed he didn't have an order placed from us. So we ordered again in person and had to wait and paid separately, again. I was told by delivery.com eventually that the order was canceled and that yelp would refund my credit card for the original order. So far the owner and yelp are taking zero responsibility and have not refunded my card.

Thomas D.

Yelp
Been looking for a reliable lunch spot in Burlington and the lunch special seemed like a good deal (although I should note that it has gone up to $12 which isn't yet reflected on the printed menus). My mango lassi was great, and the samosa size and curry portions were quite generous. Unfortunately my samosa was noticeably "wet" on the inside rather than the texture of a typical samosa, and the dipping sauce was more sweet than tangy. The chana masala was also quite a bit sweeter and less savory than I was expecting. Overall probably a reasonable place to grab lunch occasionally given the limited mid-week options in Burlington and the affordable lunch special prices, but it didn't satisfy my cravings for Indian or Nepali food.

Nina V.

Yelp
Got some momos, potato appetizer and lamb curry! Everything was awesome and service is also pleasant.

Morgan H.

Yelp
This was my first experience trying Nepali food and it did not disappoint. Located in a prime location on College Street, Sherpa Kitchen offers a variety of curries, small dishes and drinks at a very reasonable price. There lunch special is unbeatable: a drink, small plate and larger entree for $9. We came with large group with different tastes and all were pleased. I highly recommend the nepali chai, which is perfect for a cooler day. The lentil soup was very light and and fresh with cilantro. I particularly enjoyed the lamb vindaloo, which had potato, large chunks of lamb and a thin, flavorful sauce. The lamb was a bit tougher than I would ha e liked. Others really enjoyed the momos, which were filled dumplings in a tomato dipping sauce. I would definitely like to get the samosa, which had an excellent, flaky crust with a tamarind dipping sauce.

Akash G.

Yelp
This review was long pending. I first visited this place a couple of years ago when I was visiting Stowe and craving Himalayan cuisine. I got to enjoy their vegetarian thali (those were the times of dining in restaurant) I got another chance to order a takeout from this place over the Memorial Day weekend. The veg momo's were amazing and so was the veg thali. The manager owner gave us their special hot sauce on the side (complimentary)- all I can say is that I m coming back again just for that sauce alone.

David M.

Yelp
Sometimes you just have to take a chance on something you haven't had a whole lot of. My wife and I tried our first Nepalese Momo in Columbus, OH a few weeks before we were looking for dinner on a cold rainy night in Burlington. We had enough Vermont Farm fare and pizza already so we decided to go ethnic, and we were amazed. The Aloo Chaat appetizer was like nothing we had ever had before, rich with spice and balanced with a yogurt topping and a variety of textures for soft and gooey to the crunch of the dough pieces inside. The lentil Daal was very good and satisfying on a cool rainy night. We finished with a mixed Momo plate (Meat, Chicken and vegetable) all were very good, but the texture and spices in the Chicken and Vegetable filling made them superior to the beef. These were amazing dumplings. Our server was patient in explaining all of the options, and the prices here are very reasonable for what you get. This would be the first place I would run back to the next time I am in Burlington.

Anita L.

Yelp
We stopped here while visiting Burlington because I haven't seen a lot of Nepalese/Himalayan cuisine offered. It was a lot of overlap with Indian food, so that part wasn't as excited. They did have momos (dumplings) and some other specialty foods like the noodle dish. There was a significant wait, but it was a lot of food as well. I was there was more Nepalese foods that do not share Indian influences because I think that would've made for a more interesting experience. I highly recommend the beef momos!

Stephanie C.

Yelp
Highly recommended if you're in Burlington. Delicious food and friendly service. Definitely give the momos a try.

Ryan F.

Yelp
All 3 things we ordered were very good. Each menu item can made into 2 meals. Girlfriend and I toured Burlington from PA and this place made for quick take-out so we didn't have to spend time waiting for food. We got Chicken Curry with Combination Dumplings for dinner with leftovers for lunch the next day. And a single Saag Paneer fed us both again. The service/server was fast and friendly. We won't be visiting VT again, but we do recommend this place for anyone who does.

Preeti J.

Yelp
Food was okay. If you are going thinking it's very indian type. It's not in terms of spices are very mild but may be palatable for Non- Indians. We were very excited visiting Burlington that we changed our plans from Ramen to this because I have had some delicious Nepali food In NY and PA near Hershey's but this was below average. We ordered non-veg Thali which missed a lot of items from what was mentioned on the menu. The chicken was half cooked and the waiter was definitely not helpful. Dessert was not upto standard either. We are big foodie and this place was disappointed in every way.

Laure B.

Yelp
We thoroughly enjoyed every bit of the food we ordered at Sherpa Kitchen. The dumplings, wow, so delicious! The appetizers were so big, more like a meal and adding the Sherpa bread with the delicious dipping sauce just completed our fantastic meal. Thank you!

Volodia C.

Yelp
Got some to go to take back to the Hotel...interesting Menu: some Himalayan and some Indian BEST Samosas we have ever had!! Momos (Steamed Dumplings) were good, not great (might have been better if we were eating them fresh from Steamer) Himalayan Beef "Stew" was interesting...more of a Soup with a good Broth and a ton of Dumplings Beef was not very tender Also had a Chicken Stir Fry Noodle dish that was very tasty...

Pratul K.

Yelp
My mentor advised me to visit the place. I drove 4 hours just to eat here. I can say with absolute certainty that the best lamb curry and chicken curry I've had here in USA. Portions were great and I even got a complimentary mango lassi even during these difficult covid times. I took a take out and enjoyed the food with an equally majestic view of the lake.

Becca D.

Yelp
Wonderful authentic food and warm atmosphere. The owner was so nice and hard working.

Laurie V.

Yelp
Solid little Nepal restaurant. Not dissimilar from Indian cuisine, I had a chicken curry dish with the yogurt/cucumber sauce on the side. The atmosphere is small and pleasant. Portions are large. Service is friendly. Food comes out quickly. I probably wouldn't make this a go-to, but I was hungry, and it scratched an itch.

Claire Y.

Yelp
Ordered takeout with 9 other people and service was speedy and kind. The food was absolutely delicious! Would order again.

Secret V.

Yelp
Such excellent food cooked up and served by some truly sweet people. The daal soup is fabulously delicious and cheap, and I'd recommend splitting momos and another dish with a friend as the main course. The iced tea is spiced with cloves and cinnamon--so good!

Chetana C.

Yelp
Wonderful steamed vegetable momos ! Wonderful customer service . Love love love the extra hot sauce . Staff was very accommodative of our food requests . Food was fresh , tasty and quantity was great .

Glenn P.

Yelp
My wife and I frequented Sherpa often prior Covid times. We loved the food and service. We avoided indoor dining during the Covid period, but we decided to return to Sherpa tonight. We recognized the owner/server immediately. However, the vegetarian curry I ordered did not resemble the dish I had ordered in the past. To begin with, there were very few vegetables in the curry - it had a few small pieces of eggplant and a few peas, but mostly had big chunks of potato. No okra, no cauliflower, no carrots. If you're calling it a vegetable curry, there should be some vegetables in the bowl. Sorry to say, we were very disappointed with Sherpa K. Shame.

A B.

Yelp
I was looking for a quick appetizer before a comedy show, an order of combo Momo did the trick! Delicious dumplings, fast service, and polite staff made for a fantastic experience! Will definitely be back, maybe for a snack after the show :)
