Sherry's Texan Seafood Restaurant

We did takeout for lunch from here today. We ordered Liver and Onions, Fried Cod and Fried Shrimp platter, side salads and Chicken Tenders with fries. The salads were good. The Fried Cod was not seasoned. The liver was over cooked and too rubbery to eat. The Fried Shrimp were overcooked. We may try this restaurant again and eat-in that time to see if there is a difference in flavor of food.

Went with my family, husband and 2 kiddos. Food was fresh, hot and tasty. Service was friendly, and it just felt homey. We ordered a seafood plate, chicken sandwich, kids burger and fries and chicken fried steak. For $60 we fed the family and went home with leftovers. Portion sizes were great.

Flavor: B Service: B Tea: A Solo dining: A I found this place on a list of best chicken fried steaks in San Antonio. And after having it, I’d say it was good but I wouldn’t put it among the best. The steak was tender but it didn’t stick to the breading and it lacked flavor. The homemade potatoes and gravy were good and the salad was fine, but nothing left me itching to get back.

The chicken fried steak with onion rings were delicious 😋. My Aunts got the burgers and tenders. They said it was delicious as well. You definitely will love the fish basket and shrimp 🍤 😋. The sweet tea is on point. So, bring your ass over come try it out for yourself.

Update: March 28, 2025. At the new location. The food is still amazing and flavorful. I like they have two fish breading options; original (cornmeal) and flour batter. Original review: It's Halloween... my husband and I decided to celebrate our 1 year anniversary here with my folks. We haven't been here for awhile but the food is still delicious. I loved all the halloween decorations and dress ups! The fish had amazing flavor with the cornmeal batter. The jumbo shrimp had a garlic butter taste to them, which made them super juicy and exquisite. Of course the cheese sticks and onion rings are always amazing. Our waitress was adorable and friendly. So glad we celebrated our day here.

Food is good. They have a HUGE country fried steak. Friendly staff. Weird, but they charge an "admin fee". Been here 3 or 4 times before and never paid attention.

We had never been to this place but its a definite place to come back to. We ordered the child's Chicken Fried Steak which is a good portion. Crust was tasty, meat was tender, gravy was seasoned just right. Came with mashed potatoes, which were very good and a fresh salad. Also ordered the Liver with Onion, Fries, and brown gravy. It was the Best! It was cooked just right, no breading on it which brought out the grill taste to it. Finally, we saw it the nest table a plate of enchiladas and we just had to taste them. They were great with cheddar cheese filling and chili / cheese covering it all. Next time we just don't know what to order, everything looked really good.

In a search for the best Chicken Fried Steak, inevitably you will get recommendations for Sherry’s. The steak is good sized, nice crisp batter and a tender steak. Mashed potatoes were solid and definitely made in house. Lots of little chunks of potato. I had brown gravy for the potatoes which was perfect. Service was very friendly.

Always delicious but the location isn't worth the drive anymore. Ya'll need to get a bigger place!

I'm always on the search for a good chicken fried steak. Sherrys Texan's had a great portion size, the steak was tasty, and cream gravy had awesome flavor, the breading didn't add much. It was crispy where it wasn't drenched in gravy (I didn't mind but if that bothers you I'd ask for it on the side). The service was great, I went on a Friday afternoon and it was pretty crowded, but there were lots of waitresses for all the tables. The building may look and be a hole in the wall, but the food is great and the people are friendly.

This place has been around since I was a kid (Im 58) at 3 different locations. Of course, the food is not the same as it used to be but still good. However, the biggest turn-off to this restaurant is they nickel and dime you for everything. 1) The prices on the menu are cash prices. 2) There is a credit card surcharge of over 3% if you don't have cash. 3) They charge extra for to-go orders (poor workers who don't have the luxury of dining in). 4) If you dine-in and need a box for your leftovers, be ready to pay .25 cents plus tax to take your food (that you already paid for) home! I understand small businesses are struggling but is nickel and diming your customers (who are also struggling) really worth it? I honestly don't think so. I think I will rethink my visits to maybe twice a year (if that).

Great food restaurant on the Southside. I ordered the the Strip Steak Special with fried Shrimp. Excellent seasoning, steak cooked perfectly

I will preface this review as a new customer I have patronized this eatery a handful of times. I will begin this review is out of the norm of this establishment. I know my family members that have raved about Sherry's Texan for a very long time. However, this day, at the new location , was a HUGE MISS! From service to the food I will score this 1 star. The ambience was dull and looked smaller than the previous location. Parking was dreadful, the service was mediocre and the food was meh and the wrong order! Last mention, the owner Sherry was working the cashier keeping an eye out on tables for the growing line outside . My elderly mother and I were enjoying our pre Mother's Day brunch when I felt uncomfortable with the constant onlooking from the owner. Almost as if we were taking too long especially when we ordered an item to go for my father half way through the meal. I grew tired of the states and told my mom that we need to leave so we walked over to the cashier and my sweet mother attempts a dialogue with the owner with your a busy lady and her response with disdain , a little bit. Sherry was very stressed. We told her about our order we put in and she asked me to pay for it before it came out. She said she was going to call me while we waiting in our car. We waited 30 minutes and nothing so I called to cancel my order only for her to tell me once we place an order we can't cancel and get our money back: to be fair I checked my account and they did not bill me for that order so thank you, Sherry. I am assuming that the goal is to get there early or you will be apart of chaotic dining experience.

Great service and food. Enjoyed the salad and shrimp. Went at 3:30pm and was not very busy.

Good fried food... the cod is really good on the downside the veggies on done plates are straight from the can, absolutely no seasoning. If Sherry would use frozen or fresh veggies it would definitely raise the bar on the food

First time eating here. We went to try out the liver and onions. The waitress brought our salads out, which had the wrong dressing for mine. Later we placed our orders. When they delivered our plates I noticed my liver and onions were covered in gravy. Hmmmm. I haven't had liver and onions in quite some time, but I don't recall them being served with gravy. My mashed potatoes were also covered in gravy. The waitress never checked on us, except at the time the server handed us our plates. We were served the plates without our potatoes. They mixed up the potato selections among a couple of us. She kind of shrugged it off and had me scrape the potatoes on the wrong plate onto mine. Later at the very end of the meal when she brought our checks. I told her I didn't know the liver and onions come with gravy and she just said next time tell them you don't want gravy. No kidding? I told her if I had known that it and the potatoes came with gravy I would have asked to be served without it. I know that most my life I've always had waitresses ask me if I want gravy on my potatoes and anything else I may have ordered. Geesh. What a very disappointing experience.

Sherrys Texan never ceases to amaze me. Thanks to my parents, I have been a patron over 30yrs. I will continue to support this establishment until they are no longer. (The owner is selling) I encourage to walk by the cash register to read their signage. (To go boxes costs when eating in, they'll be closed for a July 7th - 14 2022) Also check your order when it's to go. Not only the smart thing to do in general, but they may forget something. I've repeatedly recommended this spot to friends and fam. Can't wait for my next visit. Fish basket is yummy as well as the shrimp combos! Def my go to orders

Today was the second time I ate at Sherry's. The first time was for lunch and it was amazing! This morning I tried their breakfast and it was also amazing! I had ham and cheese omelette with hash browns and a biscuit. The omelette was huge and so fluffy. The hash browns were crispy just the way I liked them and the biscuit so big I only ate half so took the other half home for later. So much food for a great inexpensive price. I recommend Sherry's to anyone looking for a great meal..breakfast, lunch or dinner.

Great food! Great service too! Friendly staff! Tiny dining room but nice and cool! They DEF need a bigger place! You can't combine tables for big parties.

The onion rings here are one of the best I've ever had! Even if you just come for the onion rings, it's worth it. And the mushrooms are the biggest this side of the Mississippi and juicy too! On the other side, I had the catfish basket and both the fish and breading were not seasoned and had no flavor. Definitely worth a visit! Staff was very friendly and attentive.

Food is great and the service was very good as well. Parking may still be an issue on busy days.

I haven't tried this place in years since they opened at the new location. They give you large portions and they should for the prices they charge. The food was not good, it tasted like garlic and grease.

Great comfort food! Service is awesome, and quick. If a plate isn't right, Sherry herself, will make right. Prices are good. Her food is always fresh, and comes out quick. We love going to Sherry's for some great fish, burgers, and country fried anything!

Great food, service, ambiance, and prices! They have different portion selections, such as children's menu, senior menu, regular menu, and Texas size selections for the hearty appetite, all reasonably priced.

We were looking for a place to have breakfast this morning, and some really nice police officer suggested this place. It didn't open until 10:00am so we waited, and I'm actually happy we did. We had tacos and the Biscuit. The biscuit was large, soft and so good! We all had bacon and egg with cheese along with chorizo bean and bacon. The were large tacos and the tortillas are homemade, and so good. The lunch menu look and sounded delicious. We will definitely return to try the fish plates...or maybe the baked chicken..or chicken fried steak, not sure but this place is a gem. You just check it out.

Been going to Texan for as long as I can remember. My parents would take us as kids and we loved it. Many birthdays and special occasions have been celebrated here. Amazing family environment! Sherry is a doll and those original recipes have stayed a san antonio favorite!! Jumbo shrimp are the best and biggest ever! Highly recommend!

Although they are in a new location, it appears they have been here forever. Everything here is old. The staff is incredibly friendly. And they are very busy. We arrived at 2:30. And left at four. People never stopped coming in. I ordered Fried mushrooms appetizer. The mushrooms are huge. Excellent breading. Very good cream gravy. For my meal I had the senior plate chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and vegetable. A salad and two rolls also comes with this. Total cost is $8.50. That's not a typo. Perhaps have had better food elsewhere that there's is very good. And very affordable. I can't wait to return.

Haven't eaten & Sherry's Texas in over 6 years! She's moved locations , but still delicious food, best Cod Fish & Onion Rings on the Southside of San Antonio.

Approximately 10-15 minute wait outside. Waiter was nice checked on us. Side salad came with the meals (lettuce, purple cabbage, carrots, choice of dressing). I had the country fried steak, there was a lot of breading and it didn't stick to the steak. My partner had fried fish which also had a lot of breading and lacked flavor. Decent price though got it paid quickly. Good brown gravy, good mashed potatoes, okay onion rings. Small, clean space.

Salad consisted of wilted lettuce Large shrimp arrived but was overcooked and I sent it back. The shrimp I was served next was better. Service was nothing special. Too bad they can't control the flies.

This is a great hole in the wall. They have something for everyone and it's all delicious. From burgers to enchiladas to tacos to chicken fried steak. Tea is good too! Prices are just right. Everyone is friendly and kind.

Food was overall good. There were a lot of flies, which is normal I guess. The enchiladas were very tasty and my son liked the frog legs. They were huge. The onion rings were lightly breaded & fried although I would have liked them a little more fried.

Haven't been back to Sherry's Texan since they relocated and man was it still as good as before. Fish and shrimp was spot on and chicken fried chicken was delicious as well.

Not much different from similar places like BUD JONES, but it does have better fish. It's another country slop type restaurant that has just about everything fried and salted. Small TX town peak dining at a place like this.

Went to The Texan for the first time on Thursday. Great food, the ckn fried steak was great and loved the brown and white gravy on the side. Had the fish and shrimp platter, excellent cornbread coating, onion rings were perfect!! It was so good my hubby wanted to back the next day!! The staff was friendly and it was a great neighborhood find! Will be going back soon!! Southside!!

The flavor in the food was delicious! I have the fish and shrimp and it was on point. Service is way too slow for someone like me with only a 30 minute lunch break. Took all 30 minutes just waiting for my food. Ambiance I can't comment on because I ordered to go.

I heard a lot of good talk about this place. Very clean great service and yet was disappointed by the food. I ordered a #1 Enchiladas with chalupa, crispy taco, rice and beans. Although, the food was hot and fresh the flavors weren't there. No imagination, nothing really stood out.The chalupa was decent, the crispy taco average. The rice was average, the beans tasted like they came from a can, the enchiladas had a funny flavor not in a good way. My tortillas tasted and smelled like fish. Perhaps they are stored together? It turned my stomach. I'm not a fan of fish. I thought I'd order some carne guisada tacos to go. They actually had a good flavor it just had excessive amounts of salt. Wow! I would think the cooks taste their food as they make it. Or maybe you should? I won't be back.

Good food .. owner seemed nice .. I had enchiladas they were awesome . Our waitress was Koo. They kinda messed up my wife's order ..but was well worth the wait.

Owner was upset about splitting my check at the register . Yet no-one asked us about it to begin with. She literally telling this to people who come very often supporting her local business.

*The Texan Chicken Fried Steak is a big one, alright! Their gravy is actually one of the best things here. Came with two options, brown or white. We opted for variety, as always. Verdict? Brown much saltier, white a better accompaniment. Steak itself was better than average, breading could have been crisper. But still an excellent, most filling choice.

Food is good. Always has been. The ship plate is the only thing I ever get and never disappointed. However. Server that I get EVERY TIME winds up being the skinny Mexican woman. She is rude!!!! And so is the owner. They are lucky the food is good...

Can't tell you how good this food is - every single time I visit. Always the best service and WOW- great food! Keep it up - that's why it's so busy all the time...yummmmy

Love the food love the service Sherrys Texan does everything to make you feel at home. Went to the Texan for seafood which was excellent then tried the chicken fried steak excellent next tried a cheeseburger again I'm not surprised they knocked out of the park. I recommend Sherrys Texan cause they don't disappoint and I still haven't tried there Mexican food.

I had never been to this place before and I can honestly say I enjoyed my first time. Service was on point and all the food was properly cooked, may I add that the flavor of everything was awesome! I recommend this place if you want some bomb seafood

I wish the food tasted as good as it looks .We were incredibly disappointed especially with the fish it tasted like it was frozen not fresh .The service was awesome!

Mash potatoes taste a little bland but make sure you ask for the gravy from the Chicken fried steak on the side cause the steak swims in it.

Had lunch here today and was impressed. It was so busy and service was good although had to ask for refills on drinks and waitress was not friendly at all. So many choices but I have been very hungry for liver n onions so that was my choice. I usually have trouble at other restaurants as they want to over cook the liver but this was done perfectly with taters n gravy. I tasted my friends onion rings and know I will order these humongous beauties next time. Watching other plates come out and the amount of customers to eat here I'd say this is a very popular place. My only negative would be the veggie they served were canned mixed vegetables! Not very appealing but then that can be overlooked. Will definitely go back

Still happy that Sherry's remains to serve good portion sizes especially with the shrimp.

It's been told of this place many moons ago by an old friend and he said it was an awesome place to get a fantastic burger to be surprised honestly. But we tried it out and found out it was actually really good! Super hot and fresh food because of how fresh it was. The seasonings were good on the burger and it was really filling honestly. I ordered the 1.5lb beast burger my gf got the fried chicken and my brother got the big Texas BURGER because there's a difference in the two. But the burger I got was really good, it was huge and it's funny how waiter kept asking if I could even eat it and I finished it in 5mins. I'm a burger guy, all of it was super hot and so cooked to perfection. My brothers burger was really good, mine was one big party and his was 3 big patties. My gf fried chicken was awesome a mater of fact.

I would place a zero but I can't. I'm so disappointed with this place. The waitress who served us sucked so bad. The only good thing was my steak. Please don't come here, unless you want to be disappointed or pissed off! Seriously I mean if you are going to give poor service don't work at the company. This is my first time and last! Seriously if you want to be over charged and lied to come here!
