BVOCAL4LOCAL UPDATE... Ok. Finally had the club sandwich and substituted onion rings because well you have to. They're really good. Not throwing shade at the fries. Just telling you the onion rings are great. This friend I was with had the chicken fried steak. It was more than they could handle and had to take half home. Of course I snuck a bite LOL. I might have to have that next time. And that banana pudding with the wafers in it keeps calling my name at the counter. Perhaps one day I'll answer lol. UPDATE... Food and service still rocking. This friend and I had breakfast. It's my first breakfast here. In the long line of many future breakfasts! There wasn't anything we didn't like. Aside from having plate envy again LOL. I had the biscuit as a side but someone at the table next to me had asked them to cut the biscuit open and grill it. I will definitely have that next time. The Omelette was incredible, fluffy and delicious. My friend had the French toast and was a bit surprised when they had four pieces, especially since this was just an add-on to the plate. And if you like bacon, and who doesn't, this is my favorite kind of bacon. Thick and crispy. Had to also try the carne guisada taco. You know I love the true brown gravy. This was my mom's carne guisada. I wanted more!!!Everything was excellent! Ok, sad but, I still need to try the enchilada plate lol Why? Oh why haven't I been here before? Went with a few friends when one of them suggested it. I will definitely stay friends with them lol. What a jewel of a restaurant. Great food. Great portions. Unfortunately, great plate envy when I saw other food go by LOL. It's funny because all three of us were doing it. We would say "oh look there goes the enchilada plate", "Hey check out the fish plate". We're going to have to go back at least four times to get one of everything we wanted. Our waitress was incredibly kind. She had a kind smile and was very patient considering how fast and hard she was working. If you've never been to Sherry's Texan Seafood, you might as well put your phone down. Put your shoes on. Get in the car and get over there now. One of my friends is what I call an onion ring aficionado. They actually said they would be happy just coming there for the onion rings. I dared them LOL. They said this was one of the best burgers they ever had. They raved about how thick and juicy the meat was. None of us expected the burger to be so good here but damn it was! Everything was excellent. Will be back soon.

Visited Sherry’s Texan for the first time and had a great experience! We tried a little of everything from nachos to seafood to hamburgers! The services was very friendly and accommodating. Everything we tried was very tasty and a huge portion! The restaurant was very busy but the wait time was normal and you can tell the wait staff hustles. Be aware that the parking lot is small so plan ahead and go early. Again great place to visit in San Antonio! I feel like we are losing places like this and need to support these small businesses to keep things local and unique!

The food is homestyle and very good. You will not be disappointed. The portions are very generous. I have not ate anything that was less than great! From chicken fried steak to fried shrimp and fish to oysters. The hamburger and fries are very good and delicious. To the appetizers like the fried humongous mushrooms. Family atmosphere.

We did takeout for lunch from here today. We ordered Liver and Onions, Fried Cod and Fried Shrimp platter, side salads and Chicken Tenders with fries. The salads were good. The Fried Cod was not seasoned. The liver was over cooked and too rubbery to eat. The Fried Shrimp were overcooked. We may try this restaurant again and eat-in that time to see if there is a difference in flavor of food.

Came in for breakfast and had to try the Louie Breakfast Special 🤩 Biscuit, their famous chicken fried chicken, eggs, sausage, bacon, hash browns, cheese, and country sausage gravy all on one plate! Everything was delicious, the service was fantastic, and it came out fast. Definitely worth it!

Went with my family, husband and 2 kiddos. Food was fresh, hot and tasty. Service was friendly, and it just felt homey. We ordered a seafood plate, chicken sandwich, kids burger and fries and chicken fried steak. For $60 we fed the family and went home with leftovers. Portion sizes were great.

I've gotten pickier about places i eat these days. Prices have soared, service has suffered and products have not been worth the bother. This place looks like a cute dive joint, but the service is impecable, friendly, clean, and attentive without being in your face, and even the waitresses that aren't yours watch out to make sure every customer is happy and leaves that way. Its refreshing! They are happy to see about accommodating changes to the menu and do so with flavor and style. The food is cooked to perfection, grilled shrimp plump, juicy, and seasoned to melt in your mouth. Cod and pollock, seasoned, grilled or breaded, worthy of praise as well. We loved everything so much, we didn't need a doggy bag (which we usually take home to the dog). This place is owned by honest people, just wanting to make an honest living by gilling people with an honest meal. This will stay one of my favorite places for a long time. Be early or on time, its small but very popular and worthy! Be sure to tip these ladies well, they deserve it!

Flavor: B Service: B Tea: A Solo dining: A I found this place on a list of best chicken fried steaks in San Antonio. And after having it, I’d say it was good but I wouldn’t put it among the best. The steak was tender but it didn’t stick to the breading and it lacked flavor. The homemade potatoes and gravy were good and the salad was fine, but nothing left me itching to get back.

I like the food, service and the place is nice and clean the staff are very attentive when you need something. Over all this is a place I try to hit every month to try something different. I like the fish and shrimp plates.

So Good! Service fast and efficient, and friendly. Local scene. Fish was fresh! Salad fresh. We will be back! Great food for the $$

Wanted to try something new. There was a lot variety on the menu. We loved the tea. The seafood platter with catfish instead of cod was pretty good. From NC, and TX does an ok job with fried seafood. Not disappointed with this food but wanted more flavor. Lots of food for the price. Nice atmosphere and although the staff was busy, they were pleasant. Enjoy this place. Bathroom could use some attention.

The service is always great. Staff are friendly and attentive. We ordered fish like always. This time the breading coming off the filets every time we cut a piece off. It was very disappointing. This happened last time but, we thought that the problem would be addressed and fixed. After our meal, we expressed our concern/ disappointment to a staff member and as we knew why the breading was falling off, she said it was because the cooking staff was not drying the fish filets before dipping it in the batter. She said she will let the cooking staff know. I hope our next visit is a better experience.

I love Sherry's Texan!!! Their jumbo shrimp never fails! I have been going since I was a kid and have followed them through their relocations. I will always go to Sherry's for seafood or for chicken fried steak! Wait staff and owner is sweet and love the family oriented ambiance. If you have never been, check them out, you won't be disappointed!

This place has been around since I was a kid (Im 58) at 3 different locations. Of course, the food is not the same as it used to be but still good. However, the biggest turn-off to this restaurant is they nickel and dime you for everything. 1) The prices on the menu are cash prices. 2) There is a credit card surcharge of over 3% if you don't have cash. 3) They charge extra for to-go orders (poor workers who don't have the luxury of dining in). 4) If you dine-in and need a box for your leftovers, be ready to pay .25 cents plus tax to take your food (that you already paid for) home! I understand small businesses are struggling but is nickel and diming your customers (who are also struggling) really worth it? I honestly don't think so. I think I will rethink my visits to maybe twice a year (if that).

Went there for the first time the other night and had the Big Texan. A big ol chicken fried steak. It was Big and tender, however didn't have much flavor at all. I went with the white gravy and it didn't have flavor/taste to it. My friend had some brown gravy and it definitely had a bit more flavor than the white. I may go back and try their fish and shrimp. My mom and the family used to go to the original Texan and we loved the shrimp and fish back then. Maybe that'll be better. Our waitress was great. Forgot her name, but she was very attentive.

Best Fish and Chicken Fried Steak in town! I have been going to the Texan since I was a kid, I'm 50 now, my kids love it!

I'm always on the search for a good chicken fried steak. Sherrys Texan's had a great portion size, the steak was tasty, and cream gravy had awesome flavor, the breading didn't add much. It was crispy where it wasn't drenched in gravy (I didn't mind but if that bothers you I'd ask for it on the side). The service was great, I went on a Friday afternoon and it was pretty crowded, but there were lots of waitresses for all the tables. The building may look and be a hole in the wall, but the food is great and the people are friendly.

Great food restaurant on the Southside. I ordered the the Strip Steak Special with fried Shrimp. Excellent seasoning, steak cooked perfectly

This out of the way hidden gem will leave you coming back for more! Everything they serve is amazing! You won't be disappointed. The service is also top notch and the ambiance is casual come aa you are and you'll keep coming back! A+++

Sherrys Texan never ceases to amaze me. Thanks to my parents, I have been a patron over 30yrs. I will continue to support this establishment until they are no longer. (The owner is selling) I encourage to walk by the cash register to read their signage. (To go boxes costs when eating in, they'll be closed for a July 7th - 14 2022) Also check your order when it's to go. Not only the smart thing to do in general, but they may forget something. I've repeatedly recommended this spot to friends and fam. Can't wait for my next visit. Fish basket is yummy as well as the shrimp combos! Def my go to orders

I will preface this review as a new customer I have patronized this eatery a handful of times. I will begin this review is out of the norm of this establishment. I know my family members that have raved about Sherry's Texan for a very long time. However, this day, at the new location , was a HUGE MISS! From service to the food I will score this 1 star. The ambience was dull and looked smaller than the previous location. Parking was dreadful, the service was mediocre and the food was meh and the wrong order! Last mention, the owner Sherry was working the cashier keeping an eye out on tables for the growing line outside . My elderly mother and I were enjoying our pre Mother's Day brunch when I felt uncomfortable with the constant onlooking from the owner. Almost as if we were taking too long especially when we ordered an item to go for my father half way through the meal. I grew tired of the states and told my mom that we need to leave so we walked over to the cashier and my sweet mother attempts a dialogue with the owner with your a busy lady and her response with disdain , a little bit. Sherry was very stressed. We told her about our order we put in and she asked me to pay for it before it came out. She said she was going to call me while we waiting in our car. We waited 30 minutes and nothing so I called to cancel my order only for her to tell me once we place an order we can't cancel and get our money back: to be fair I checked my account and they did not bill me for that order so thank you, Sherry. I am assuming that the goal is to get there early or you will be apart of chaotic dining experience.

Always delicious but the location isn't worth the drive anymore. Ya'll need to get a bigger place!

First time eating here. We went to try out the liver and onions. The waitress brought our salads out, which had the wrong dressing for mine. Later we placed our orders. When they delivered our plates I noticed my liver and onions were covered in gravy. Hmmmm. I haven't had liver and onions in quite some time, but I don't recall them being served with gravy. My mashed potatoes were also covered in gravy. The waitress never checked on us, except at the time the server handed us our plates. We were served the plates without our potatoes. They mixed up the potato selections among a couple of us. She kind of shrugged it off and had me scrape the potatoes on the wrong plate onto mine. Later at the very end of the meal when she brought our checks. I told her I didn't know the liver and onions come with gravy and she just said next time tell them you don't want gravy. No kidding? I told her if I had known that it and the potatoes came with gravy I would have asked to be served without it. I know that most my life I've always had waitresses ask me if I want gravy on my potatoes and anything else I may have ordered. Geesh. What a very disappointing experience.

food not cooked properly. sent oysters back, kitchen just threw them back in fryer. then very overcooked. Fish fillet the same. sent entire meal back. very disappointed.

Great service and food. Enjoyed the salad and shrimp. Went at 3:30pm and was not very busy.

Today was the second time I ate at Sherry's. The first time was for lunch and it was amazing! This morning I tried their breakfast and it was also amazing! I had ham and cheese omelette with hash browns and a biscuit. The omelette was huge and so fluffy. The hash browns were crispy just the way I liked them and the biscuit so big I only ate half so took the other half home for later. So much food for a great inexpensive price. I recommend Sherry's to anyone looking for a great meal..breakfast, lunch or dinner.

Good fried food... the cod is really good on the downside the veggies on done plates are straight from the can, absolutely no seasoning. If Sherry would use frozen or fresh veggies it would definitely raise the bar on the food

Great food! Great service too! Friendly staff! Tiny dining room but nice and cool! They DEF need a bigger place! You can't combine tables for big parties.

The onion rings here are one of the best I've ever had! Even if you just come for the onion rings, it's worth it. And the mushrooms are the biggest this side of the Mississippi and juicy too! On the other side, I had the catfish basket and both the fish and breading were not seasoned and had no flavor. Definitely worth a visit! Staff was very friendly and attentive.

Food is great and the service was very good as well. Parking may still be an issue on busy days.

Great comfort food! Service is awesome, and quick. If a plate isn't right, Sherry herself, will make right. Prices are good. Her food is always fresh, and comes out quick. We love going to Sherry's for some great fish, burgers, and country fried anything!

I haven't tried this place in years since they opened at the new location. They give you large portions and they should for the prices they charge. The food was not good, it tasted like garlic and grease.

Been going to Texan for as long as I can remember. My parents would take us as kids and we loved it. Many birthdays and special occasions have been celebrated here. Amazing family environment! Sherry is a doll and those original recipes have stayed a san antonio favorite!! Jumbo shrimp are the best and biggest ever! Highly recommend!

Great food, service, ambiance, and prices! They have different portion selections, such as children's menu, senior menu, regular menu, and Texas size selections for the hearty appetite, all reasonably priced.

We were looking for a place to have breakfast this morning, and some really nice police officer suggested this place. It didn't open until 10:00am so we waited, and I'm actually happy we did. We had tacos and the Biscuit. The biscuit was large, soft and so good! We all had bacon and egg with cheese along with chorizo bean and bacon. The were large tacos and the tortillas are homemade, and so good. The lunch menu look and sounded delicious. We will definitely return to try the fish plates...or maybe the baked chicken..or chicken fried steak, not sure but this place is a gem. You just check it out.

Salad consisted of wilted lettuce Large shrimp arrived but was overcooked and I sent it back. The shrimp I was served next was better. Service was nothing special. Too bad they can't control the flies.

Food was overall good. There were a lot of flies, which is normal I guess. The enchiladas were very tasty and my son liked the frog legs. They were huge. The onion rings were lightly breaded & fried although I would have liked them a little more fried.

Although they are in a new location, it appears they have been here forever. Everything here is old. The staff is incredibly friendly. And they are very busy. We arrived at 2:30. And left at four. People never stopped coming in. I ordered Fried mushrooms appetizer. The mushrooms are huge. Excellent breading. Very good cream gravy. For my meal I had the senior plate chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and vegetable. A salad and two rolls also comes with this. Total cost is $8.50. That's not a typo. Perhaps have had better food elsewhere that there's is very good. And very affordable. I can't wait to return.

Haven't eaten & Sherry's Texas in over 6 years! She's moved locations , but still delicious food, best Cod Fish & Onion Rings on the Southside of San Antonio.

Approximately 10-15 minute wait outside. Waiter was nice checked on us. Side salad came with the meals (lettuce, purple cabbage, carrots, choice of dressing). I had the country fried steak, there was a lot of breading and it didn't stick to the steak. My partner had fried fish which also had a lot of breading and lacked flavor. Decent price though got it paid quickly. Good brown gravy, good mashed potatoes, okay onion rings. Small, clean space.

Haven't been back to Sherry's Texan since they relocated and man was it still as good as before. Fish and shrimp was spot on and chicken fried chicken was delicious as well.

This is a great hole in the wall. They have something for everyone and it's all delicious. From burgers to enchiladas to tacos to chicken fried steak. Tea is good too! Prices are just right. Everyone is friendly and kind.

Not much different from similar places like BUD JONES, but it does have better fish. It's another country slop type restaurant that has just about everything fried and salted. Small TX town peak dining at a place like this.

Went to The Texan for the first time on Thursday. Great food, the ckn fried steak was great and loved the brown and white gravy on the side. Had the fish and shrimp platter, excellent cornbread coating, onion rings were perfect!! It was so good my hubby wanted to back the next day!! The staff was friendly and it was a great neighborhood find! Will be going back soon!! Southside!!

The flavor in the food was delicious! I have the fish and shrimp and it was on point. Service is way too slow for someone like me with only a 30 minute lunch break. Took all 30 minutes just waiting for my food. Ambiance I can't comment on because I ordered to go.

*The Texan Chicken Fried Steak is a big one, alright! Their gravy is actually one of the best things here. Came with two options, brown or white. We opted for variety, as always. Verdict? Brown much saltier, white a better accompaniment. Steak itself was better than average, breading could have been crisper. But still an excellent, most filling choice.

Great place to eat for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Sherry the owner is awesome as she runs a awesome restaurant with amazing servers with great attitudes and very personable! This is definitely a San Antonio Gem!

I heard a lot of good talk about this place. Very clean great service and yet was disappointed by the food. I ordered a #1 Enchiladas with chalupa, crispy taco, rice and beans. Although, the food was hot and fresh the flavors weren't there. No imagination, nothing really stood out.The chalupa was decent, the crispy taco average. The rice was average, the beans tasted like they came from a can, the enchiladas had a funny flavor not in a good way. My tortillas tasted and smelled like fish. Perhaps they are stored together? It turned my stomach. I'm not a fan of fish. I thought I'd order some carne guisada tacos to go. They actually had a good flavor it just had excessive amounts of salt. Wow! I would think the cooks taste their food as they make it. Or maybe you should? I won't be back.

Good food .. owner seemed nice .. I had enchiladas they were awesome . Our waitress was Koo. They kinda messed up my wife's order ..but was well worth the wait.

I had never been to this place before and I can honestly say I enjoyed my first time. Service was on point and all the food was properly cooked, may I add that the flavor of everything was awesome! I recommend this place if you want some bomb seafood
