We may have higher expectations for the food or we didn’t select the best menu items which evidently is the pork chop. At any rate we appreciated being seated by Pat and told what is good and also the history of the building. I ordered a Cosmo but immediately knew it wouldn’t be great. It was red vs light pink. Oh well🤷‍♀️ Ordered popovers for the four of us. They were good. Here’s the menu items we had - the flatiron steak (chewy), shrimp scampi but must order angel hair pasta as a side otherwise it comes with nothing, the Pot Pie - very good crust but mostly vegetables and less chicken. It was a very slow night - only 4 tables of diners. Maybe that impacts the kitchen. We did appreciated the quiet atmosphere but not the flies that decided to dine on our food while we were eating.

Wow! Great service, Amazing food, and lovely drinks. Angie & Paul do a beautiful job making you feel at home while serving you food you probably could never make on your own. We went with our family, who loves to cook and adores good food. We have been going to the lakes area as a group for 30 years and have tried to find a place like this. It is the only place we have found that serves food and drinks of this quality. Well worth the trip!

Google
Such amazing service and atmosphere!!! Sit at the bat and have a drink with Christa tending, you will not be disappointed. Get the brie board app and the scallops and filet are cooked perfectly! Make sure to check them out, skip the big boys down the street and hit up the local favorite!

Establishment has done a very good job of distancing tables for everyone's safety. Place was clean and inviting, staff was friendly and helpful. Stopped in and had an appetizer along with dinner and dessert. Everything was served fresh quickly and very well put together. Dishes had great flavor and wonderful presentation. Would recommend them anytime!

The atmosphere at Sherwood is beautifully rustic. Big trees, quaint cabins, and a warm fire surround you. We love sharing appetizers/small plates family style. The cheese curds are absolutely delicious and we always get at least one order. The staff has always been kind and helpful. We will definitely be visiting this great log cabin restaurant again.

Google
Delicious food and nice atmosphere. They have one of the best pork chops I've ever had. It had a syrupy apple and horseradish sauce. Buttery mashed potatoes went well with it. The baked brie appetizer was great. It had a lot of fun pairings for the brie: walnuts, dried apricots, sesame crackers, green olives, jam, etc. I didn't care much for the crab lettuce wraps. They needed a little yum yum sauce or sweet chili or something. The peach salad was delicious. The sweetness of the peaches was a great pairing with the creamy goat cheese and tart balsamic. The caramel cheesecake was delicious as well. The service seemed really professional. One of the new owners came to our table and spoke with us. They just reopened about a month ago under new ownership. It sounds like they have a lot of experience in restaurants, and the food quality is consistent with that. They probably had too many customers for the amount of serving staff on this particular night, because everything was pretty slow. We had a group of 8 and were there for about 2 1/2 hours. The building is an old log-cabin style lodge on the natl historic register, and they utilize the space really well. There is also plenty of outdoor seating with a partial view of Gull Lake.

First time here and found out Sherwood North only opened 10-days ago as the new owners took over this historic property. Wow! We have been staying in the area for 4 days and had been to numerous restaurants in the area. Hands down this is the best that we have been to. We started out with appetizers. I had the Pickled herring platter with pickled vegetables and crispy bread and pâté. The herring was two different ways and was accompanied by pickles, pickled onions and carrots and crispy bread. The pâté was the richness needed to cut through the acid in the pickled vegetables and this plate was extremely well executed. It was the first time that I had seen pickled herring on a menu in the United States. I looked up the menu online and saw this item and made the decision to have dinner here based solely on this appetizer since I have never seen it outside of European countries. The second appetizer we had was the Brie Brûlée Board. It featured toasted Brie Cheese, Crocotini Crackers, dried fruit, nuts and jam. The Brie was perfectly toasted and the jam was absolutely delicious with the right amount of sweetness to complement the cheese. The mildly acidic olives provided the perfect balance point to counterbalance the sweetness on the board. The third appetizer was the Popovers served with honey butter and bone marrow butter. They were steaming hot and absolutely delicious. We actually used some of the jam from the Brûlée board and combined it with the honey butter and it was insanely good (I would ask for some jam it goes so well with the popovers). The popovers are a MUST HAVE! For a main course I had the pork chop with Apple horseradish glaze. This is honestly the best pork chop I have ever eaten. The bone in pork chop was perfectly glazed then grilled and it had just the right amount of char to allow the glaze to sear on the outside. It had a dash of sea salt which provided just the right amount of brininess to offset the sweeter glaze. Upon cutting into the pork chop it was cooked to perfection. It also had just the right amount of fat to add that essential flavor to the profile of the chop. Finally the pork chop was moist and succulent. Often large chops are over cooked and dry and that was certainly not the case with this chop. Having eaten at some of the best restaurants in the world by renowned chefs where the pork chop is my goto main dish this beat every one of them hands down. This dish gets a 10 out of 10 stars in my book. I honestly don’t know how or if it could be improved because this is pork chop perfection at it’s finest. My wife had the shrimp linguini. Normally you find that a lot of restaurants over-pasta linguini dishes where it overtakes the sauce and the protein. At Sherwood North it was the perfect balance. With the sautéed shrimp cooked to perfection combined with fire roasted tomatoes, spinach and parmesan each complemented each other in perfect balance with a light butter wine sauce it was the perfect portion size and cooked impeccable well. Again combining an acid element with the roasted tomatoes cut through the richness of the sauce and parmesan. She complemented her dish with a nice glass of New Zealand Sauvignon blanc to make a perfect paring. Not only was the food spectacular but we had impeccable service from Emily who was very attentive and had great recommendations. The owners also stopped over to see how our meal was on two different occasions. First Angie stopped over and told us how they recently took over the property, gave us background on the historic nature of the property being on the historic register. She also said they had been open just 10-days and then Paul stopped by to check on us as well and was super nice telling us how they came about opening. This place is absolutely fantastic. If your looking for a romantic place for dinner in an absolute piece of eye-candy historic local lodge-style architecture you cannot go wrong with the ambiance, service and food executed to perfection at Sherwood North!

Google
The historical log building will take your breath away, then you will have service second to none, and the food is so delicious you'll be back! Comfortable style, like being home. We're looking forward to sitting on the back deck when the snow melts.

Yelp
Went back for another fish fry Friday and again hands down my favorite fish fry meal. They decorated for the holidays and the seating area is gorgeous for Christmas. The staff is so friendly and attentive again no complaints for this gem.

Yelp
Amazing restaurant! The ambiance was warm and made you feel tucked away in a cabin in the woods. The service was great and our needs were always met. The food and drinks were amazing! I had the old fashioned and it was balanced well, and the bourbon tasted great! I also got the Walleye Filet, and I have to say, it was the biggest filet I have ever gotten anywhere! It tasted great on top of a bed of wild rice, and I loved the dill sauce drizzled over top. I would definitely come back and would highly recommend Sherwood North to anyone in the area!

Yelp
Food was excellent, service was fantastic, but our card was overcharged, owner promised several times to refund the difference, but we never heard from them again in spite of numerous phone calls and e-mails, and then we were past the point where I could dispute the charge to my card holder. Disappointing end to what was otherwise a fantastic experience - but we won't go back.

Renee K.

Yelp
The pork chop was the best I've ever had. The flavor was juicy, ham-like and the sear and glaze was perfection. I think three people can eat this.

Yelp
4.0* (out of 5) Food: 4* Atmosphere: 5* Value: 3* Service: 4* 03/04/2023 We stopped here for dinner this weekend while staying at a house on Gull Lake and enjoyed our stop. From the outside, it had a large log-cabin type of appearance - but the strongest feature here was the atmosphere and the beautiful lighting and stone work that awaits you when you walk through the front door. It was truly an amazing visual experience to see! We started with a round of drinks. I had the Old Fashioned (see picture) and was honestly quite disappointed with it as it seemed to be nothing but straight bourbon and possibly a slight dash of bitters. My wife ordered a Margarita and both of us thought it tasted quite good. For dinner, my wife and I decided to split the 16 oz Ribeye (see picture) while she added the salad (see picture) and we shared the Popovers (see picture). I really liked the Popovers and the flavored butter that came with them. My wife enjoyed the flavor of the salad, but didn't like that it had to be cut at the table to eat it. The Ribeye was above average in flavor and was prepared as ordered - and the Cheesy Potatoes (see picture) were fantastic, so rich, creamy and delicious. Last but not least, we ordered a piece of Turtle Cheesecake (see picture) and that quite frankly was likely the highlight of my meal - I thought it was wonderful and would highly recommend that you end your meal with a piece of it yourself! Yelp
looking forward to going to their fish fry on 9/13 arrived at 5 was told that the restaurant was closed to public until 7:30 due to private party. No posting any where of this. We asked if they would have the fish at 7:30 they said yes ,So we came back at 7:30 to be told they were open but not serving food, very disappointed

Yelp
Great Walleye Roll and an ice cold Hamm's! Owners Paul and Angie make you feel like family. Friendly personnel and sweet interior surrounding.

Yelp
This was the best meal we had while in Minnesota for our annual visit! The popovers alone were reason to visit (I got an order to go for breakfast the next day too and I am not ashamed!). Several members of our group got the pork chop which was enormous and delicious. Yes, it's pricier than some others around, but the service and food were on par with the prices. We've been coming to the area for decades and never eaten here until this year - we will be back for sure!

Yelp
Yikes. Would love to recommend this restaurant with it's beautiful setting and historic ambiance, but the food was awful. Our party of five had the pot pie (small, dull, with hardly any chicken), walleye salad sandwich (weird seasoning), fries (dry, under seasoned, cold), popovers (nothing special for $10). Everything was underwhelming and overpriced for the quality and quantity. Will not return as there is nothing that would draw us back to this remote location and we all left feeling unimpressed. On a positive note-the staff are very friendly and attentive and the food came out quickly even though the restaurant was busy.

Monica P.

Yelp
We had a large group but the staff worked well with our crew. Friendly staff. Our waitress entertained our young kids. We all really enjoyed the food as well. Will certainly be back to eat here on our next trip north!

Christopher N.

Yelp
Great waiter - super nice but was disappointed in the rest. Was told things would be 30-45 mins. Ended up being 80 mins and received a raw steak.. So sorry for the poor waiters/waitresses who have to deal with this. Also - don't expect any WiFi or service!

Debra S.

Yelp
Good food and lovely atmosphere. We enjoy the menu, lots of offerings! The waitstaff stays cool under pressure even when the place is packed.

John S.

Yelp
There are much better options than this place that you should go to instead! The owners are fairly incompetent and didn't respond to any emails/texts about a party we were planning at their restaurant. We did try this place before booking and the food wasn't bad, a little pricey for having to buy sides separately. The restaurant itself is a bit outdated and could use some cleaning up on the outside and inside. Thankfully we ended up going elsewhere for our party after they ghosted us for two months!! We won't be back and will be recommending everyone we know that visits Gull Lake to not go here.

Karli H.

Yelp
Angie is absolutely awesome. The menu caters to every palate and everything we had was cooked to perfection. The service was incredible - everyone had a smiling face at all times and were very attentive. The ambiance is classy, but fun with live music. We will eat here every time we are in the area. Highly recommend the carrot cake!

Yelp
New owners have owned this about a year so ignore previous reviews. Service was slow and walleye I had for $32 was dry and broccoli was tasteless. Also none of the meals include any extras like bread or salad or potato. Asked the owner about the extra charge to each item. She went crazy and never really had an explanation except they have a price fir cash and one fir credit. Owner was very rude and I'll never be back. Music was too loud and food overpriced.

Jeff L.

Yelp
I want this place to be a restaurant to consistently come back to, but too early to tell. We were given fair notice that there may be up to a 45 minute wait to get our food - supposedly slammed by MEA weekend families- in fact, food came a bit sooner than reported. A number of items listed on the menu on the internet - a couple appetizers and 1/2 of the entres we're not on the menu once we arrived. Had hoped for the salmon but that entre was not available, neither was rad the tartar. As an alternate, the server claimed I would like the duck ragú- I ordered it but it was bland and under seasoned-not worth the price. The Caesar salad had store bought croutons and although requested, there were no anchovies. The salad was also underwhelming. I'd go back one more time to try a simple burger to see if they can get that right but I don't think I'd return expecting a fine dining experience.

Yelp
Majestic atmosphere! A vibe found no where else in the Mid-West! Although the kitchen took awhile (over an hour), the live music was fun and lively. Angie (the owner/server/bartender,expediter,greeter) is the reason it all works!

Christina M.

Yelp
What a gem! Beautiful ambience, great food and service! Love the breakfast croque and the walleye. Angie is the best!

Yelp
This is a favorite place to go. The food is delicious and the chefs are always on point. All the servers are wonderful! They regularly have music and it's always great! The owners are beautiful people, always there and working along side the staff. They are welcoming and humble.

Nancy T.

Yelp
We apparently had a brand new server (as later disclosed by the senior server) who forgot our wine order and must have also forgotten our dinner order since others around us who arrived 20 minutes after us were finishing their dinners before we even received ours. After we asked about our dinners she magically found them in the kitchen but they obviously had been sitting for some time because they were barely warm. Management eventually comped us 2 glasses of wine which didn't make up for the poor experience. They should have given her more training before setting her loose.

Yelp
Such a bad experience. The new owner was full of insults and sarcasm to our party. I will not recommend this place to anyone and will definitely not go there again.

Steven H.

Yelp
We have been coming here for past couple years and have to say this place is simply the best dining experience in the Brainerd Lakes area. The food is outstanding and the staff is suburb. Further, the ownership always make you feel welcomed. Big shout outs out to Emily. 5 stars!!!

Courtney L.

Yelp
Sherwood North opened under new owners A month ago. Easily the best restaurant in the Brainerd/Baxter area! Everything we had was outstanding we tried the bri cheese and cracker platter, walleye cheeks, pork chop with cheesy potato's, lamb bolognese and the pork belly bowl (I wish I had a picture of because it was easily the best Asian bowl I've ever had. Every entree was outstanding the owner is the chef! For dessert we had the cheese cake and carrot cake also amazing. We will be visiting again and again!

Phyllis L.

Yelp
We had a great meal at Sherwood North! The Ambiance was very nice a rustic up north theme. The service was very good, the food was delicious. I had the pork chop and my husband had the beef rib. Both were outstanding! When we are up north we would definitely return.

Yelp
Great service, food, drinks, and of course the live music! Thanks for all you do and have a happy Thanksgiving

Yelp
We loved this place! The menu was varied and everything was fantastic. I loved their espresso martini

Kathlee P.

Yelp
We had an outstanding dinner here. My husband had the lamb bolognese and I had the shrimp linguine. Also had the popovers...a great deal at 4 for $10. Came out piping hot with honey butter. Delicious. Oh, and the historic log building is breathtakingly beautiful. I highly recommend eating here if you're in the area.

Yelp
We were very understanding on the wait as they were short staffed. Had to walk to bar to get glasses of water. Asked about our order numerous times and was pretty much ignored. When food finally came out more than 85 minutes later. We were served with two of us getting our food, 8-10 minutes later for the next two, then another 7 minutes for the next meal. Not only were the majority of our meals served cold to mildly warm, couldn't find our server to even get a glass of water. We asked for management and our bill, was told here's your bill and probably not gonna see the manager. When I explained to the server we wanted to talk to manager she said good luck, goodnight and have a good life!! . Of course this was after we paid the bill and gave a generous tip. Very disappointed in the way things were handled. We will never be back! On a good note bartender Jonah was above and beyond in his services. They need more employees like him.

Nancy N.

Yelp
Wonderful servers that accommodated an unruly family with two one year olds, a three year old and a six year old. They stepped around us, placed us in the best spot they could, and didn't miss a beat. Beyond their fretting over us, they brought us high quality food, drinks, apps but most importantly, they were patient and understanding with our children.

Lindsay A.

Yelp
We visited on a busy Saturday night during the summer! Angie greeted us and immediately informed us that the kitchen was busy and we'd have a wait...appreciated the honesty. Food was excellent (best we've had in lakes area for awhile!), service was great and what's not to love about the historic building and ambience of Sherwood. We'll be back for sure!

Gary S.

Yelp
The new Sherwood North is fabulous! The new owners have crafted a delicious menu with seafood, steaks, and pastas that are superb. The quality is unsurpassed, and the service has been wonderful even in this strained environment. Highly recommend having dinner here!

Karla L.

Yelp
We had a great meal here last night. They are newly open so a few delays happened but great staff. New owner stopped by for a chat which was really nice. Walleye cheeks and Brie board were fantastic! Walleye dinner was huge and delicious- top prize at our table. Shrimp scampi was great! Salads were also amazing. Just plan on taking some time and you'll be very happy

Mary J.

Yelp
Great menu!! Supper club with a north woods vibe. The steaks are hand-cut as well as the pork chop and you can tell! The walleye is superb. Wait staff is attentive and helpful! And the POPOVERS!! Get them!!! Just trust me.

Jill S.

Yelp
solid food here, the marinated mushrooms are BOMB. it's probably just the night we went but there were some, well, let's say interesting people...
