"Sherwood doesn’t look like much more than a corner store, but its no-fuss sandwiches have captivated the neighborhood for three decades. The most popular is the pulled chicken sandwich with bacon and avocado on egg bread, but the shop also features options like smoked meat, crab, turkey bacon, and other fillings — all for a very reasonable $9 or less." - Joel Balsam, Tim Forster, Eater Staff

Delicious sandwiches! I had enjoyed eating here for years, went away and it was one of my first places that I just had to go when I got back home!! Egg bread and house sauce are amazing

Good sandwiches at a good price. Tried a jamaican beef patty today. First impressions were not good. It looked flat and appeared to barely have enough meat inside. It was enjoyable with enough meat filling, though I feel it could've been baked more. I'll buy them again.

To start this off, I've been coming to this sandwich shop for a little while and have been really enjoying the food I've received from them. All the quality is excellent and the output is the sum of its parts. Unfortunately the people that work here are incredibly caustic to the business. I know you're not paid to smile at work, but you could at least pretend that you're enjoying having a job. Cashier didn't say a word to me and the man making my sandwich slapped it down on the counter without a word as well, I had half of mine to just walk out with it and then ask if they even wanted me to pay, considering the service?

First time going into grab sandwich for breakfast. Best sandwich in town fair price. Keep up the good work .

Just had their bbq chicken bacon avocado sandwich on egg bread. Best bread ever, so soft and fresh. Super flavourful and fresh ingredients. Best sandwich spot I have tried in Ottawa and only $8! The guy who gave me my order was also very friendly.

This store looked like a regular corner store in the neighbourhood, but turns out a good sandwich place. Tried BBQ chicken bacon avocado sandwich and roast pork sandwich, and both of them were great. Meat was good, and bacon and avocado seem to make their sandwiches tastier. Their egg bread was fresh, sherwood sauce was good with lettuce and avocado. Their sandwiches are not fancy, but they were homestyle sandwiches (in a good way).

Google
They have the best sandwiches, hands down! If you're lucky to be early enough, you get the egg bread, and it's definitely the one you want. Turkey Bacon Club is our choice 😋

I don't know how they can afford to make such generous portions and still be in business. But hey I'm here for it and definitely will return. Great sandwich and great quick service. Not sure why another reviewer would expect to sit down at a grocery/deli...

Yelp
Recommended for the sandwiches. Still reasonably priced and huge. Try the capicollo ham instead of the regular ham. Mustard-mayo house sauce is a must. They use egg bread from Rideau bakery which is worth the price alone.

Yelp
Should have been a great sandwich (maybe it's my fault for having left it rest for a couple of hours?) but she was a soggy mess. A if you're eating quickly F if you're looking for something to keep for a bit later

Yelp
I honestly can't recommend this place enough! They have an excellent selection of yummy sandwiches! Would definitely go again!

Yelp
This may seem like any generic convenience store, but it is actually a little bit of a hidden gem. On one hand, it is sort of a specialty candy store. There is an impressive selection of imported candies and chocolates that you won't see at most grocery stores. There is also a selection of imported sofas, including the rare and hard to find cane sugar Coke Colas and Barq's On the other hand, it is sort of a East Indian deli as well. There is an assortment of East Indian style pastries and you can get some delicious sandwiches made fresh. My favourite are the beef patties! One last thing, this is also a holding sport for CANPAR parcels waiting pick up. So this is not your regular generic convenience store! Stop by and see for yourself, you'll very likely find something you'll want to try

Yelp
The BBQ chicken sandwich with in house rotisserie chicken, delicately shredded iceberg and thinly sliced juicy tomato bound together with the ridiculously good tangy and creamy Sherwood sauce is an extremely dope option for the price point. Often overshadowed by Dirienzo's just down the road, at 50 cents cheaper Sherwood's is definitely proving itself a contender for king of the Ottawa sandwich game. Only reason they didn't get 5 stars is because they were out of their signature egg bread and I had to settle for that gully dempster's white. Worth multiple visits to explore the multiple variations/combinations of BBQ chicken sandwiches on offer.

Yelp
So I heard that this place has sandwiches that rival DiRienzo's (on Beech, really close by) so I had to check it out. In terms of cleanliness, this place has DiRienzo's beat in my opinion. Only the staff handle the bread, unlike DiRienzo's where the bread is in open baskets and customers stick their hands in and grab the bun they want and place it on the counter and the staff take it to make the sandwich. I also didn't see any flies at Sherwood Supermarket. You get your choice of bread (egg bread, rye, whole wheat, white, 12-grain or 7-grain). I had the egg bread. It's sandwich slices style not bun style. I had the ham sandwich special ($3.99). It came with cheese, tomato, lettuce and your choice of mayo, regular mustard, Dijon mustard, honey mustard, or "Sherwood Sauce" which is apparently mayo, mustard and black pepper. I had the Dijon mustard and let me tell you, it is potent. My sinuses cleared up immediately! The bread was very fresh and soft. The ham was tasty and the toppings were fresh and generous. The sandwiches range in price from $3.99 to $4.99. The DiRienzo sandwiches are larger (but they are all $5, so Sherwood Supermarket is cheaper depending on what you get), but not necessarily tastier. I still really like the DiRienzo (Hot) Roast Beef Sandwich - it's real roast beef, not deli meat, but I think for cold cut sandwiches, I will be going to Sherwood Supermarket instead. I'd say that the sandwiches at Sherwood Supermarket are similar to the sandwiches at Continental Delicatessen (in the Byward Market). They have a small parking lot in front.

Yelp
Absolutely amazing sandwiches! Let me repeat: Absolutely. Amazing. Packed with meat and lettuce and bacon or avocado or whatever you order! Fairly cheap as well, which makes it amazing for lunch, dinner, date night, whatever! The samosas and Jamaican patties are awesome as well. The staff prepare in advance for the lunch rush, which is nice. They need to renovate to make it bigger, because there is not much room to move around in the rest of the store. The staff sometimes seem less than impressed with their job, but they are always friendly.

Yelp
Warning; once you try one of these sandwiches you will have spontaneous strong cravings for them. I always get the chicken bacon avocado on egg bread with the Sherwood sauce. The sandwiches are always so delicious! Fresh avocado, and the sauce is what makes the sandwich so wonderful. I mission from across town just for these sandwiches.

Yelp
I have ordered from here three times. I ordered the exact same sandwich each time but received three very different sandwiches. They need to me more consistent. First sandwich was great; chicken and bacon ( they asked what kind of bread, cheese ..) 2nd ; they didn't ask what kind of bread , just assumed. And forgot to put the bacon on. Third time; I was VERY specific, yet again not specific enough. I said chicken but they put a different kind than my first two sandwiches. So I have learned I need to give them A step by step of what I want. Deli meat chicken please. Sigh, I'll still go back though. Because when they do get it right it's delicious!

Yelp
The $5 chicken sandwich on egg bread with special Caribbean sauce - ask for extra sauce, forget the bland bacon (yes, you read right). The service leaves much to be desired... but the staff is pleasant. Dirienzo's is still better but if you're in the area, this place hits the spot!

Rémi P.

Yelp
Way better than Dirienzos....cheaper.....better quality....and their bread doesn't cut your mouth open.....

Yelp
Not sure how I had missed this place for the time I have worked in this area, but Sherwood has some fantastic sandwiches for great prices. In the past week I have tried both the Shrimp & Avocado and Chicken, Bacon, Avocado and they were both excellent. Both times I had the egg bread and sherwood sauce (a mayo based sauce) and both times I found them better than Dirienzo's sandwiches, and for the same price. The only drawback is that the choice of vegetables is pretty much nonexistent (I was kinda hoping for onions) but that is a minor drawback. It is also a grocery store/deli so you have a large variety of drinks to choose from if you are thirsty and you can get all sorts other things if you need to do errands. I highly recommend this place if you are looking for a quick sandwich.

Yelp
I had a sandwich there laat week- it was amazing. I just wish that they had nice little caffe or restairant. I felt wierd eating in a grocery store :). But we really enjoyed the food.

Yelp
Delicious sandwich place that you wouldn't expect. Worth checking out, not comparable to Di Rienzos due to so many differences between the two, but they both are amazing sandwiches for under 6 bucks.
