"The Emeryville Public Market food stall might be best known for its ramen, but its wings are secretly the restaurant’s must-order dish. A riff on Nagoya-style wings, Shiba’s crispy version comes coated in sesame seeds with a whisper of sweet soy sauce." - Janelle Bitker, Luke Tsai

"Shiba Ramen, co-owned by Jake Freed, is facing significant challenges due to high commercial rents during the COVID-19 pandemic. The restaurant, located in Oakland and Emeryville, has been struggling with rent payments as their revenue has drastically decreased. Freed argues that rent abatement, rather than deferment, is necessary to prevent closures. The situation is exacerbated by a landlord's proposal to increase rents and demand immediate repayment, which Freed finds unrealistic and unfair." - Luke Tsai

The experience at Shiba ramen was good. The waitress who took my order was a very cheerul young woman who immediately brightens up your day with her quirky style of taking the order. The food is good quality and I had ordered the spicy ramen with an extra portion of noodles. Definitely more than what I'd usually eat for lunch and it filled me up quite quickly. One thing to note was that the spicy ramen was not really spicy for an Indian customer. The broth tasted good. Definitely a must trying you're around.

Google
Good little place for Ramen togo. Full of flavor. I got the Spicy Tonkotsu Ramen. However I've never had bean sprouts in a Ramen bowl before which uses it's authenticity. The noodles were a tad under cooked.

This is inside the Public Market at Emeryville. Got the Spicy Ramen and Gyoza (dumplings) really great ramen, egg perfectly cooked, there are sauces to add additional spice. The public Market is very cute and there is lots of seating to have a quick bite alone or come with friends. The price seemes a bit high, about $14 for just the ramen but again it is good.

If you’re looking for good fast casual Japanese ramen, this fits the bill. The only reason I didn’t give it more stars is because of the dining area is part of the large “hall of the people” market space (industrial, soulless and a dehumanizing environment) and that the staff did not speak English (only Spanish).

Google
Spicy Ramen is lit. The menu is a bit confusing if you actually eat ramen. If you've never been to a ramen restaurant before then it will probably make more sense...what is clear vs. brown soup? A little bit pricey for the portion size (this bowl costs $15 and change after tax... but overall a good ramen spot.

Google
I'm not a ramen expert but I really enjoyed the Clear Dark Ramen with Chicken. Very flavorful. The order was prepared very quickly as well. I did find it off putting that they have you order from a computer screen and ask for a tip before any service has been provided whatsoever--not even to take the order.

Google
$12.50 spicy ramen looks like the ramen to get, and it sure tastes delicious. The noodle isn’t overcooked and still has a bite. You get an entire soft boiled egg, instead of just half like some ramen places. The ground pork is super flavorful. Get it :)

Google
I pop in periodically to eat here when I don't want to go to far for a decent bowl of Ramen. It's not the most prominent tasting Ramen around (Broth) but that's not necessarily a bad thing. I've learned to appreciate the very Simple and Clean flavors this place has to offer that many others do not have so I do recommend you give this place a go.

Yelp
I know there closed and I'm sad but I truly loved there ramen ! Mannnn !!! What happen I need answers

Yelp
Not understanding how this has 4 stars when 1. It's small portions 2. The broth is super salty 3. The kaarage is lukewarm 4. The service is slooooowwww So, I get that people want ramen. I want ramen too, but not when it takes forever and it's like 4 bites for $17 dollars, and $10 for like 4 wings. See above for why this is 3 stars and tell me how with these small portions compare with the price. You're paying such a huge fee for just wabting ramen when there are soooo many other ramen places that are not here and better. Don't just drive here to get their ramen. Don't go out of your way for this.

Belle J.

Yelp
It's one of many shops in an Emeryville public market and you sit in the common area. It's a self-order and they call your number and also text you when it's ready. My food did not take long to come out. I ordered the spicy ramen and the broth was actually really good! It's a bit salty though but I like it. Portion was a bit small and very little grounded pork. And noodles were a bit hard. But I still think it was good overall. Only thing I hate was a worker in a shop across from Shiba Ramen. He always yelled the order number really loud and it could be really annoying.

Yelp
7/29/23 This Japanese ramen restaurant's in a very large food court, and for a food court kinda place, it was remarkably good! I remember the broth was very flavorful, but not overwhelming, with good thickness and texture, just the right amount of creaminess. The eggs were marinated and cooked perfectly soft, with an ooey gooey dark orange center. And BEST of all... their chashu was perfection! Sure the fat parts were great, but very few places are able to get the lean parts so tender yet remaining juicy. Perfect. Not sure why their current rating of a flat 3 stars is so low, but our bowl was better than 90% of more popular brick and mortar restaurants'. 5/5 #emeryville #japaneseramen #ramen #mariantedegg #chashu

Yelp
I got ramen from Shiba for the second time today! It was my spouse's first time. Last time, I got the "dry" ramen and I was PLEASED! I added pork to it. Today was rainy and cold so I really wanted something hot and the "spicy" (tan tan) REALLY DID IT FOR ME! It comes with ground pork and a jammy egg but I omitted it since I'm actually allergic to chicken eggs now Spouse got the clear soup spicy version. I didn't ask how much he liked his it wasn't the best move because he's not feeling well and didn't want anything too spicy and the level was a bit hot for him today. My gyoza was soooo cold but I think it's because I was tending to my toddler. I remember really liking it last time. My soup was DELICIOUS. The bok choy was perfect. My noodles stuck a little together in a clump but again I'm not sure if it's because my food was waiting there too long or what. You get a text when your food is ready but you should stick around because they'll call your order number out, too. That's faster. I don't think my spouse heard them. I like that you can specifics whether you're dining in or taking your food to go. There's also an option to keep the noodles and soup separate or not. We sat at one of the tall communal tables right in front and they were projecting the World Cup game on a big screen. It was a really pleasant experience: When ordering, there's menus laminated right at the counter and you can use the touch screen. It got a little busy when we ordered so someone came to also take orders while I was fumbling on the screen! You can actually edit out toppings and the person working was really nice to walk me through that. I wouldn't have known how to look for it otherwise. I'll absolutely be going again. Truly hit the spot both times. Only not giving it 5 stars because it's not THE BEST ramen (but it's damn good).

Yelp
Located in Emeryville Public Market Parking: there is a parking lot and street parking available, we have not had any issues finding parking the handful of times we've gone. Dishes: Tried their clear dark broth ramen with chicken and added an extra egg (it comes with 1 egg) and tofu. Disclosure: I'm not a ramen expert and not super picky about my ramen. The ramen bowl was more bean sprouts than ramen noodles and we took out about half of the bean sprouts and still had a ton of bean sprouts in the bowl. I would ask for less bean sprouts if possible. The broth we chose was pretty good, the eggs were good but they aren't the super marinated eggs you can sometimes get at other ramen restaurants. The tofu was a good texture but rather tasteless. The chicken was fine but not a ton of it in the bowl. Will definitely go again and try to ask for less bean sprouts. Service: It is self service and the food came out pretty quickly. Since we "dined in" it was put all together in one plastic bowl and they provide one use plastic soup spoons (in the times of COVID). Ambiance: It's in the Market Place and it can be lively at times depending on who is around but it's all very casually. It's not the best ramen I've ever had but it's good ramen that is conveniently located in the Public Market.

Yelp
Not so great. My friend had the chicken noodle and was anything but impressed. The only way to make it spicy was to dump oil into it. He ate it but he was not satisfied.

Brian W.

Yelp
Seriously slowest ramen place I've ever experienced. Do yourself a favor and pick something else from the food court.

Iris S.

Yelp
First time here. Loved the broth and the texture of the noodles. I recommend. I'm a noodle foodie and would come again. I had the spicy clear both ramen and it was delicious. The only comment is they the two eggs were a colder temperature than the hot broth and I didn't like that--though easily remedied by dunking the eggs for a minute into the hot soup with my spoon.

drishya c.

Yelp
I was really satisfied with the soy milk based Ramen. The eggs were also perfect and the pumpkin or squash slices on the vegetarian Ramen was uniquely delicious. I did not feel like I was compromising by choosing the vegetarian option because it was very flavorful

Tiena L.

Yelp
I can't believe this place isn't higher rated. I thought this ramen was so good. I loved the spicy tonkatsu. The noodles were a little thicker than most and the broth was really good. I really think this is one of the better ramen places I've been to. I would say if you are ever in Japan town to try the ones there but this place is excellent. If you have never been to public market you have to try it. It's like an upscale mall food court and there is a parking lot. Pretty close to ikea if you are looking to eat somewhere after shopping.

Austin W.

Yelp
Very sub-par bowl of ramen. Noodles were clumped together and very difficult to break apart, broth tastes pretty thin and didn't have the typically depth of flavor you find in a ramen broth, and the bowl definitely could've used other garnishes besides the excessive amount of bean sprouts. I definitely wouldn't get ramen from here again.

Melanie S.

Yelp
There was more bean sprouts than noodles ): this was good for me since I had an upset stomach since it wasn't as strong in flavor and was more lighter soup base. The egg was okay. Usually my favorite thing in ramen is the egg so was disappointed the egg was meh. They definitely marinated it but it tasted a little wine-y to me or maybe it's something else that I can't pinpoint what it tastes like but it was okay.

Yelp
Ramen in Emeryville, sounds great! I was looking forward to Ramen before my trip, as I did research on eateries. It has been months since my other half and I had our ramen fix. Shiba Ramen is located at the Emeryville Public Market. We decided to try Shiba after looking at all the different food vendors at this public market. Having ramen was perfect, since it was so chilly in Oakland. Shiba Ramen, located towards the end of the public market. The menu consist of Spicy, Clear, Clear Dark, SoyMilk, Dry for Ramen. White Bird, Salad Ramen for Special Ramen. Wings, Chashu Pie, Gyoza, Spicy Cucumber, rice ball for Sides. Draft beers, beers, sake and ice cream also available. The service I received wasn't the greatest, the cook that day and he also was the counter person didn't look happy and wasn't so friendly. We were still stuffed from lunch during our visit, so we just got two bowls of ramen, spicy for my other half and I got the white bird. I normally don't have a chance to try ramen in chicken flavor so this would be perfect to try. The White Bird is a rich, creamy chicken broth with bean sprouts, bamboo shoot, soft boiled egg, and chashu. I got chicken chashu instead of pork. I thought the red stringy stuff was saffron, but I was wrong, it was shredded togarashi peppers. My opinion, my other half mentioned his ramen was good but not Good-Good and my ramen was mediocre, the noodles were slightly overcooked, the bowl of ramen was luke warm, the only thing I liked was the egg. The broth to noodle ratio wasn't there. I didn't have enough broth for my noodle. Pricey at $14/$15 a bowl for food court/public market type. Overall, it was still a good first time in ramen experience @ Oakland

Dexter D.

Yelp
Friendly service and fast service preparation. Just what one wants on a quick lunch run. Oh yeah, I guess good food would be nice too. This wasn't the best bowl of ramen we'd ever had but it filled our need just fine. The ramen had a nice chew. The pork was fatty without being overly so. The broth could have had more depth. It was okay but not memorable. All of the other ingredients were okay. We wouldn't go out of our way to dine here again but we would order again if in the area and needed a bowl of ramen.

Belinda T.

Yelp
Okaaaaay, haven't been to these neck of the woods in awhile and this Public Market is pretty nice now. Came on a Sunday night and opted for the ramen, being spoiled by many other ramen places for cheaper price at $15 a bowl, the broth was def skimpy. Plus a star because the egg was cooked perfectly. So I got the spicy pork option. It wasn't spicy at all and the pork itself was extremely salty. I dispersed it in the soup and in losing the meat I guess it wasn't terrible because it cut the salt a little. The noodles itself was good, not great but still like a fresh ramen place. If you're craving ramen and you're in the public market I would give it a try, but there's also a ton of other places I want to try in here.

Jeanette L.

Yelp
My partner tried this place for the first time after a long day. It was really flavorful and so well-made. The portion I would say is on par with San Francisco and downtown prices. He went with the a spicy and I was really impressed.

Annie T.

Yelp
Overall 3/5 -- solidly average/mediocre ramen place that I might come back to again if I were at Public Market. Just wasn't Stand Out ramen that I'd rave about to my friends! FOOD: I felt that there was decent ramen / broth. I got the Soy Milk Ramen and my partner got the Clear Dark Ramen. I expected my broth to be creamier/more heavy as opposed to the regular vegetarian clear ramen, but the broth was pretty light (and kind of oily). The bamboo was a nice touch, and the eggs were boiled nicely as well. Not the best ramen eggs I've had, but I've also had worse. There was a good quantity of noodles & both of us felt pretty full/satisfied afterwards. My partner found the pork chashu to be pretty flavorful, even if a little thick in its cut. I personally didn't like the kabocha squash in my ramen very much (which was the main reason why I ordered it); I felt like it was too oily, tasted a bit fried, and had no real remnants of the natural sweetness from the squash :( AMBIANCE: As it's another market stall in the Public Market center, its very casual & order-at-the-counter style. It was a bit loud in the area, but that's just because it's a hub for people to come through and try different kinds of food. Not really a "date night" atmosphere, if that's what you wanted, but moreso an easy casual place to grab a quick bowl of ramen before a movie or something (as was what we wanted). Service was relatively quick/easy, given the crowd and wait time.

Allan C.

Yelp
I was just here for a meal, dine in, order the white bird and the soup was off, not as I remembered it when I previously had it and many times before, i was rich but the umami flavor was dull and bland on top of that, your staff at the counter was very unsanitary, because it was closing time so he was cleaning and when my food needed to be garnished he didn't even mind washing or changing gloves or even just use tongs, but just used his bare hands and start adding the eggs etc

Bellea M.

Yelp
After some stiff pours at a sake tasting in Oakland, I really needed something to eat. Ramen was my craving so hubby drove us to Public Market where I knew I could get a decent bowl. We both opted for the clear (shio) and it was just what I needed. My only comment is that the chashu is presented as one very thick slice. Ideally, it would have it cut into two or three slices. I did take care of my craving, though. Until next time.

Ladi H.

Yelp
I go here often because the broth has a clean taste to it. The noodles have some bite and the eggs are cooked perfectly. They have a nice variety of ramen and I have tried the pork broth and the clear broth. Both are well seasoned and really substantial (they become gelatinous when cold, flavor town!) Super fast service and friendly people who seem to like what they are doing and the food reflects it.

Karen W.

Yelp
We ordered take out from Shiba Ramen and it hit the spot, and was tasty and the portion was A-ok!

Caroline S.

Yelp
Delicious ramen and meat bits, it was flavorful and the store was in a indoor food court (public market). The broth was a little salty but I still drunk most of it.

Vincent S.

Yelp
I think the owner of this place should put more attention to this business. The ramen was good when my first time here few months ago, today is my third time here and the ramen is really disappointing. Poached egg tasted sour!!!!! Not good! Weird! The minced meet is hard to chew, my bf ordered Tonkotsu, no meet... where is the Chasu?? Ramen is really small portion, they put more beans sprout than ramen portion... after I finished I don't feel good in my stomach.... You can't talk to them cuz they only have an order machine. No service.

Mito I.

Yelp
Quick Summary: - Read the instructions on the cashier machine instead of waiting for the staff to arrive at the cashier table - Order from the tablet, if there is no staff at the cashier - Don't throw away the soup spoon - They don't have the tracking beep machine, so you will need to wait nearby to hear your number - Wait time is around 10-15 minutes - Portions are very light. Come hungry, leave slightly less hungry (if you're a glutton) I came to the Public Market; my third visit. It's different than the previous two because there was a lot more people. Large projectors were playing a basketball game, so that could have been a factor on why it was so crowded. Some new shops were opened and some have closed (I'm sad that I missed my chance to try one). For tonight's dinner I decided to get ramen at Shiba Ramen. This is my first time. I read some reviews before arriving, and one mentioned that if the staff wasn't at the cashier, you can still order with the tablet. Interestingly, this store did not hand out the tracking machines, so my relative and I waited near the ramen place to hear our order. This restaurant is popular, so a crowd does form around with people who want to order and those who have ordered. I ordered the clear dark, my two relatives ordered different types: spicy and clear. I tried the broths from each bowl. The clear is the lightest and also the easiest to eat. The second is the clear dark and it also happened to be my most favorite. The last is spicy, and I don't have a high tolerance for spice, so I thought it was coughing inducing spicy. The noodles were chewy and springy! It also caught the broth well, so I was able to taste the soup with it. Although, I did realize each noodle was trimmed short, so a slurp was quick, rather than me slurping to get a mouthful of noodles. I also loved how there was only one piece of chashu pork. There were two other ramen places I've been to, and they served three large and fat pieces of pork. It felt like I spent a lot of time just eating pork, rather than enjoying the ramen. So, I was very pleased with the amount. The only reason why I didn't give the restaurant 5 stars instead of 4 is the portions. For me, if I came here hungry (0%) I will only be around 30-40% full. I knew this was going to happen, by observing others eating ramen, so I did order a second dish at a different place, but I still felt like I could've eaten another bowl. However, one of my relatives said they were content full, so it's a difference in opinion, and the size of the stomach.

Jean G.

Yelp
I have to say, Shiba Ramen is one of my favorite go-tos. The spicy ramen dish is just very tasty, albeit, a bit on the pricey side. I attribute the price to being inside the Public Market and having high leasing costs (just my take on it). Any clear dark broth item gets my vote of approval as I have tasted all of varied meats including chicken, pork, spicy (ground) pork, and beef. The added touches are fresh, and the soft, marinated eggs are always perfection. Added bamboo shoots and dry red pepper flakes are just so good with the broth, scallions, and bok choy. The chicken wings and dry ramen are also good options on days when it's not cold and you're just wanting ramen in your life! Note that they are card-only service. As a walk-in, there is a kiosk menu screen which is quite intuitive to use, and provides less human contact. It helps that the workers are near in case you do have questions or need assistance. During the order process, you enter your cell number to which you are texted when your food is ready. As a take out order, getting the broth separately helps to ensure your noodles are not soggy. Overall, a great choice if you are craving ramen.

Parysh J.

Yelp
Is one of my favorite casual ramen spots. I always get the spicy pork ramen and it hits every time! So spicy but not to the point that you can't taste the actual flavor. The broth is flavorful and the noodles are perfectly bouncy.

Katya J.

Yelp
I have tried 4-5 different places in the Public Market and this is the first one I will definitely go back to. I got the soy milk ramen. I added cabbage & tofu because I thought it might need more veggies and protein. It was unnecessary, although I'm glad I added the cabbage. All of it was delicious! The broth was savory & enough fat to have a very good mouthfeel. The seasoned eggs were really good, the bamboo shoots same, the corn tasted fresh. I should have taken a photo as it was very nicely presented too. The staff was helpful and friendly.

Connie Y.

Yelp
The Spicy Ramen had plenty of chewy, al dente noodles which was great. I liked the tobirashi/spicy flakes they gave me too! The broth had a slight richness to it..but was still bit too salty and watery for my liking. Their POS wasn't working very well, had to mess with it for at least a few minutes to get it to work for self ordering since the workers were busy in the back.

Marissa P.

Yelp
Shiba Ramen is located in Emeryville's Public Market. If you haven't been there before, it is like a food hall with stalls for each vendor. It was remodeled a year or two ago, and some of the vendors I really enjoyed did not stay. Shiba Ramen actually joined after the remodel. I have tried their ramen several times and I always order the Whitebird because of the creamy broth. They have a typical ramen menu and their flavor is average compared to most places I have been. I gave them 4 stars because they are pretty consistent and even when it is to-go they have a good presentation. They have moved onto a self-ordering system where you order off a screen. It is not hard if you are well versed in computers but with only one screen available, it can get backed up during busy periods. I have seen employees step in to help when needed. One thing I liked is that they give you an option of having the noodles and soup separate or together. I find that when they are separate, the noodles stick together making it difficult to eat. Therefore, I ordered mine in one bowl which also made it easier to eat because you didn't have to fiddle with pouring over the soup.

Ramona H.

Yelp
Absolutely no customer service, employees were rude and not helpful. No COVID excuse can justify rudeness. Ramen non memorable. Not worth my time or money.

Art O.

Yelp
Eh. Absolutely no customer service because you have to order from the computer screen. Not a fan of this trend. The ramen is meh. First bad sign is use of bean sprouts. Then the broth isn't all that flavorful. The best thing about the ramen is the ramen itself - firm and chewy texture. Probably won't order here again.

Jennifer B.

Yelp
Located inside Public Market - Emeryville. Although there was a variety of eateries we could have chosen from, this was the best choice for dinner given it was a chilly NorCal night. I'm not sure what attracted the crowd: the cold night or they're just naturally popular. It seemed most of the patrons seated were either getting or have gotten something from here. I opted for the special of the day: White Pig (soft-boiled egg, pork chasu, bean sprouts, bamboo shoots, green onions, shredded togarashi peppers, black garlic oil) and a bottle of ito-en green tea to wash it down. Hubbers went for the regular spicy ramen bowl. We also wanted to try the chicken wings as it looked good when other patrons came to get their order. It took a bit of time to get our order completed because they really were popular for that night. So popular, in fact, that they had to result giving out regular plastic spoons vs. ramen soup spoons. Wings were cooked to a good crisp but lacked seasoning. It was too plain lacking any kind of umami. Hubbers said he liked it and felt the seasoning was just right. We agreed to disagree. First sip of the broth and immediately, I felt it wasn't hot enough. I guess I'm used to the more piping hot bowls I get from most ramen places. But the broth was good. It had depth and a bit of complexity, but all that got ruffed by the fact it wasn't hot enough. The noodles had a great chew. The egg was cooked perfect. The chasu was marinated and seasoned well but a bit on the dry end. The whole bowl was mediocre at best. I felt my bottle of green tea altered the taste of my ramen as well, so I may skip that drink altogether next time. Hubbers loved his bowl, though. He mentioned it was a great level of spice and really warmed him up on this cold night. FOOD: 3 at best. SERVICE: 3. We didn't really get served other than them prepping our items. VALUE: 3. I felt it fair considering the location. PARKING: Street and private lot adjacent to the market. OVERALL: 3. Mediocre at best. Hot(ter) broth might have made a big difference. But I'll say I've had better overall. I'd probably try other eateries posted in the market before making a come back. But I am very interested in trying out their Oakland spot.

John L.

Yelp
Something just doesn't sit right with me when a bowl of ramen costs $19 and it's served in a plastic bowl. I was also super disappointed to see how cheap Shiba ramen has become since they don't even have a worker at the register and during a global pandemic, they have their customers touch the same dirty touchscreen to order their own food. The whole process is not sanitary, user friendly or pleasant. The ramen itself is decent. I ordered the white bird with chicken and the flavor was fine, but a bit rich. Maybe it would taste better in a proper bowl with a proper spoon versus plastic.

Thomas B.

Yelp
I loved the old Emeryville Public Market. When they went into remodel I didn't think it would take this long to get it going again. Well, I think they are almost there and the area seems to be evolving with it. The new Market doesn't have as many cross-cultural kiosks, and I see more fusion. But that's not bad, I just have to rethink how I want to eat. Well My gf wanted curry and I wanted noodles. This is the place to find whatever you like. She got her curry and followed me over to Shiba Ramen. OMG. So delish. Loads of happy fresh noodles. If you haven't had ramen before, make sure the noodles are cooked and served as you order like here, and not from a kettle or something. They keep soaking up the broth until you get the yuck factor. Not only was my bowl delicious, it was beautiful. I couldn't be happier with eye appeal and flavor. Instead of eating in the food court shared tables, Ebony took my order and suggested we eat more comfortably and more intimately next door at their other place "The Periodic Table." (see my other review for them). I was able to have a beer served here. There is a service window here where food is passed into the pub. Brilliant. Ebony, thank you for the suggestion and this crazy good meal.

Yelp
This was located in Public Market in Emeryville. Haven't been in this area in years and I've decided to see if I could grab a bite. It was cold and rainy at the time and Ramen sounded like a good idea. I bought 4 bowls for my party. 2 regular Shoyu Ramen, 1 shoyu ramen with black garlic oil and Regular Spicy Ramen. I had the Spicy Ramen. I think the broth was fairly good and the noodles were cooked just right. The boiled eggs were also cooked perfectly. I also ordered the veggie gyoza. I think the veggie gyoza tasted like it was frozen and then heated up. I was able to eat it but there was an aftertaste like it was in the freezer and then reheated. I would have to say my entire meal was satisfactory. It wasn't like "ooh memorable SPECTACULAR ". It wasn't spectacular but it was fairly good anyway. I would not try them again. Next time I'm at Public Market, I'll try a difference food vendor. Don't get me wrong. The Ramen here was still good.

Nelson C.

Yelp
Decided to head over to Emeryville's Public Market today as I was really craving some cashew milk ice cream but was hungry. The names of the different ramen is a bit different, but in the end basically the same. I ordered the CLEAR which is a light clear broth w bean sprouts, soft boiled egg, pork OR chicken char sui ( I chose pork ) , bamboo shoots, green onions and microgreens. - Noodles: Cooked well, nicely chewy - Broth: Flavorful, but could have had more flavor and a bit hotter. - Pork chashu: very tasty and a big 1/3" thick piece. - Egg: I'd say between soft and medium boiled. A whole egg where most would give you just a half. -Extra: Added and paid extra for black garlic oil. Won't do it again. It was like where is the black oil??? Overall, it was an okay bowl of ramen but not great, but nothing to brag about.

Yelp
2.5 Stars. While running some errands in Emeryville we decided to come to the Emeryville Public Market to eat some late lunch. Out of all the restaurants in the market we decided to get ramen since it was a bit rainy that day. There weren't very many options to choose from since it was almost closing time for lunch. The cashier was nice enough to let us order last minute though. I ordered the White Bird and my boyfriend ordered the Spicy. The food was ready within 5 minutes. The White Bird is described as a "creamy chicken broth" but wasn't creamy at all. There weren't very many noodles and they were a bit on the 'al dente' side. The egg wasn't over done like at some places, and there was also some bamboo shoots and onions. I did appreciate the Cha Shu that was served with it though because it was grilled or seared a bit and added a nice flavor. Honestly for paying ~$14 for a bowl of ramen the portion is pretty small and I didn't leave very full. There are better ramen spots out there in my opinion. I definitely won't be craving Shiba Ramen or go out of my way to get it either.

Yelp
I am very happy with this place. I came here a couple months ago and ordered the clear. I completely forgot about it , until my spidey senses started tingling while I was in the area this weekend. I came on a Sunday, it was moderately busy but the service was excellent. I mean, it's pretty much self checkout- which is great. I ordered the spicy ground pork bowl and added the pork chashu, you gotta have pork chashu, always add pork chashu. Pork chashu should probably be a pizza topping, I digress. Anyway, I also ordered the Wan Sake. My order took a reasonable amount of time for good ramen, no complaints. I genuinely enjoyed my meal, broth was on point, noodle texture was great and the Pork chashu .... Well, you know how I feel about Pork chashu.

Yelp
Tan tan men was good but very spicy. The dark clear ramen was flavorless. Gyoza was not qyoza more like a potsticker and it only came with 4.

Yelp
Came here during lunch hour and the place had a short line with a self ordering system. The system was easy to use and order. We ordered the butter corn pork ramen, spicy pork ramen, and two pork rice balls. The butter corn pork ramen came with chashu and it was delicious! The broth was light and flavorful and the chashu was super tender and melted in my mouth. The ramen noodles were al dente and really good! The spicy pork ramen had a kick to it but wasn't overly spicy in the beginning but it does creep up on you the more broth you drink. The ground pork was decent but I thought it was going to be the chashu for some reason which tasted a lot better. The rice balls were delicious and had a decent amount of pork filled in. It was a good appetizer before the meal. Overall, I liked the butter corn pork ramen more but the spicy ramen was still good. I'd definitely recommend people to come and try this place.

Yelp
There was a dead fly in my ramen. Sad. This used to be my go-to place. Overpriced dead fly now. Thank you, not coming here again.

Yelp
Wasn't the best ramen I've had in the area, but it definitely fulfilled my ramen craving. It was satisfactory for a food court-esque type place. Portions were alright. It definitely felt like I paid more than what was given. I got the clear ramen. Soup was a little oily but not too salty. The soft boiled egg was cooked perfectly. Not too overdone like most places. Pork chashu was one big thick slice. I wish they would've cut it into two slices so it wouldn't be so hard to chew! Overall okay though. I would probably try another place if I returned to the Public Market, but wouldn't say no to eating it again either.

Yelp
Smooth electronic ordering system. Spicy ramen was very good, clear dark ramen was fine (found out I like the richness of the regular broth much more than I thought).

Yelp
During my first visit at Shiba, I ordered the White Bird Ramen - a creamy chicken broth base with your choice of sliced pork or chicken and the usual fixings. My first sip of the broth was a disappointing start. A chicken broth that was lukewarm and didn't have any depth of flavor. Next, the soft boiled egg was cold inside, along with all of the other toppings: the green onions, bamboo shoots, and the canned corn I added for $1. The sliced pork was flavorless and the noodles were a bit clumpy. Without tax and tip the ramen was about $16, which felt pretty steep for ramen that was just okay. The cold egg was a big problem for me, since it basically means their ingredients are not fresh. There are much better options at Public Market! Pass.

Yelp
for this place in particular you have to order from a tablet which i normally don't mind but there wasn't a place i could write any edits so i had to order then immediately try to talk to one of the employees to let them know about an edit in my order. i ordered the yakisoba and after eating it i feel like it will now always be my go to for this place! i liked the variety of toppings and the serving size was nice as well. i may be biased bc i used to work at a place that served yakisoba so i already have a tendency to love yakisoba so i would definitely give this place a try if you're craving noodles!

Yelp
Shiba Ramen is located towards the back of the Emeryville Public Market. I was about 7 months preggo when I came and asked the cashier behind the counter what she would recommend. She said the Spicy Ramen was a favorite, but also said that she worried about me having it while preggo (since spicy food could lead to heartburn.) I had been fine in my pregnancy thus far, so decided to go for it. The ramen was ready within 5-10 minutes. Despite its name, it wasn't spicy at all. I went back and used their chili oil (nearly half of those condiment containers) to add a kick to the food. The noodles were cooked well but overall taste was just okay. Overall a disappointing experience. If you're at Public Market, I'd recommend giving other places a try.

Yelp
0 stars for me. It was horrible. Did not look like the pictures that they displayed when ordering. Not friendly. Service was bad. Never coming again.

Yelp
Not worth $14.50. Wish I had read the reviews before ordering for my daughter. No service and you just order at the screen. The woman preparing the food didn't acknowledge anyone. For what you get, it should have been a $9.00 ramen. Ramen just isn't the same in a plastic bowl. Small portion too.
