Shibden Mill Inn

"Tucked away on the floor of a steep, wooded valley, this former corn mill is full of rustic character, with cluttered, low-beamed rooms, open fires and cosy snugs. Monthly changing menus offer hearty, flavoursome dishes made with Yorkshire produce. The young team are organised and welcoming – and boutique bedrooms add to the appeal." - Michelin Inspector

Had the most beautiful meal here. Everything was cooked to perfection and seasoned so well. I can’t believe the high standard of food. The only downside was the service. The servers were lovely but it took forever to receive any service. We were there for two hours and I’d say a solid hour was just waiting to be served. Still, worth going just for the amazing food and cosy feel.

We arrived here on a busy, sunny Sunday and the place was busy and bustling. The staff were great and kept everything running smoothly. We initially only popped in for a quick pint after a walk but couldn’t resist the look and the smell of the pizzas. The sourdough bases tasted great and the topping was delicious.

I was super excited to try something on their Vegan menu, which I understood was available daily, but that didn't turn out to be the case, unfortunately. I ended up basically getting fish and chips, which were great but not what I was hoping for. If you aren't a meat eater, that is your only option if you are pescatarian. The ambience is great and the grounds are gorgeous. The service was not so great. I was solo and felt very ignored. I had no idea who my server actually was because the people who took my order, delivered my food, asked if i wanted dessert, and who I asked for my check (after nearly 20 mins of trying to get someone's attention as they walked by 20 times) were 4 different women. I felt very out of place, unfortunately. I'll try again next time I'm in Halifax and hopefully with more than just myself it will be a more enjoyable experience. And I'll ask about the vegan menu this time, prior to making the reservation.

Excellent food and service. We visited for Sunday dinner, roast beef was the tastiest and best cooked piece of beef I have had in a long time and all accompanying vegetables were perfect. For dessert we had sticky toffee pudding and the pineapple, both delicious. Really enjoyed our meal

We love Shibden Mill Inn and have been a number of times over the years for meals. This was the first time we had stayed as it was a wedding treat to ourselves. We got married that afternoon. We had a meal with family and then me and my wife stayed in the suite. Here are our thoughts: The good things: The food was fabulous. The service was efficient The room was also fabulous except for the points below Our stay would have been Even Better If: Whilst the service was efficient, the staff seemed to be always in a rush and there was no engagement with us as guests or warmth in the service. This was particularly true at breakfast where we felt a little uncomfortable asking for something from the member of staff as she seemed so busy even though there were only two or three couples sat down. As regards the room, I'm sure it is on their maintenance list but two electronic blinds high up on the roof don't work so the light came in very early into the room. Also just a little thing (but its these little things that make you feel special and looked after alot of the time) but we had to ask for coffee pods which had run out. There were only decaffeinated ones. It would also have been a lovely gesture if in some way our wedding day had been acknowledged either with a small token of acknowledgement or even verbally by the staff but there was not even a mention of congratulations despite including this on both the food and room booking. We still enjoyed our stay very much but I think the staff missed the mark on their welcome, friendliness, warmth and attention to details. I hope this changes as Shibden Mill Inn is a delight and real asset to our local area.

Our first time here, weirdly as we live near Halifax and have done for years. First impressions were great when our uber drove us down the hill and we seen the charming building. We sat upstairs and had a drink in the lounge before we sat at our table. The staff were lovely and very attentive, we ate off the Sunday menu and went wild by enjoying the suggested accompanying wines (port with the cheese) hoping we vetoed the Monday hangover cos it was only 5pm. The food was lovely, cannot fault. It's got a very cosy, charmingly English vibe about it. Definitely will be back.

Unexpectedly found this beautiful pub on a run out for an hour or so. Along a winding road we saw the car park was full thinking it might be ‘pre-bookings only’ but we found a space in the over flow carpark. Walking across we could hear water running in the background ‘just lovely’. Busy inside with diners but still greeted by busy staff as we walked through including bar staff who spoke and made eye contact while we waited obviously had ‘great training’. We found a free table outside and enjoyed a lovely couple of hours entertainment from a variety cal duo and btw ‘Thankyou for playing our request ’ ~ our compliments to the owners, lovely staff without exception :)

I went for lunch with two friends, we sat outside in the excellent covered area.|Two fish and chips and one stone baked pizza.|All rather disappointing, the fish was heavily battered with more very crunchy batter than fish and nowhere near as good as any decent fish shop, at £22 I'm afraid that's adding insult to injury. the pizza crust was so hard it proved a challenge even though my friend has all his own teeth.|The free of charge added extra was the constant smell of raw sewerage that hangs in the air, maybe some people like it but it's not to my taste, |Overall, disappointing, I have popped in for a drink some summer evenings and experienced the delicate aroma of sewage so nothing new there then, but when eating I'm afraid it's not for me.

Yelp
This place is incredible. Accommodations are nice enough but the restaurant/ dining is a legit 10. I live in California and my wife and I talk about flying back to England just for the Shibden Mill breakfast. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Well there is only so much culture vulture action I can take in one day. So after a very pleasant day at Shibden Hall it was time for some light refreshments and the Shibden Mill Inn. What a fine looking pub it is too. Nice stone brick and big to boot. On wandering in I wasn't disappointed either. It's laded with oak beams and swanky rafters. All this adds to a cosy atmosphere. So I settled my bum and relaxed and relax I did. Maybe that was to do with the good selection of wine served by the glass if you wish, from around the world. Plenty of choice and three sizes to choose from. That's pretty much unheard of these days. The Merlot was a nice tipple. As for the food, this was a welcome treat. You can have a Yorkshire Pudding as a starter. Yes a starter if you wish. Follow that up with a massive slab of Shibden burger with deluxe chips or go for something more sophisticated like the mussels or fowl's breast. My only gripe was that it is quite dear for pub grub but it's very good pub grub so I guess I should leave my English complaining head at home. Overall a fine stop off for food and drink alike.

Yelp
Cozy pub off the beaten path. Fairly certain we were the only Americans there but staff was very accommodating. Great vegetarian options and creative dishes!

Yelp
The food is superb and never fails to please. The pub is an old coaching inn in a wonderful setting . It is a pleasant place to sit outside on a summer's evening.

Yelp
I need to visit Elland every couple of months. I always look forward to staying at the Shibden. The Staff is excellent, rooms very nice and dining wonderful. Nothing at all to be critical about. I wouldn't consider staying anywhere else!
