Shibden Mill Inn

What a wonderful experience. We came here for an anniversary treat and were upgraded to a suite, which was just stunning. High ceilings, unique rooms, all in keeping with an old building, whilst having modern and superior facilities. We enjoyed a fabulous meal. The guinea fowl was delicious, the staff friendly and attentive and the wine was excellent quality. Great background music, to this music fan at least... At breakfast, Emma's homemade muesli was exceptional and the hot food was consistently delicious. An absolute gem that we would love to visit again.

Everything about the Shibden Mill Inn is fantastic. The restaurant is cosy, yet spacious, and the open fire contributes to the relaxing atmosphere. All the staff members I have encountered have been exceptional. They are polite and welcoming, kindly dealing with a voucher issue that was entirely my fault, and accommodating a last minute change to my booking. This is our second visit to the Shibden Mill Inn and the food was again, delightful. We had the soup of the day, a corn and jalapeño soup with warm bread and garlic butter, followed by haddock and chips for the other half, and shepherd's pie with veg for me. Unfortunately, we didn't have room for dessert. The food is full of flavour and cooked perfectly, with generous portions. You won't leave hungry! The mocktails and ales are delicious, with plenty of drinks options. We will be visiting again.

An exquisite dining experience I wont forget. I went for the tasting menu and all 8 courses were perfection. Well balanced, seasonal, locally sourced and presented beautifully. The staff were all amazing and I could not fault the food or service. A bonus we left feeling full and will be returning to try more. A brilliant team of kitchen and service staff.

The last part of the journey is through lovely countryside. The road descends down a steep hill and views are magic. We ordered our meal which naturally took a little time and well worth the wait. It is not cheap but absolutely delicious!

A lovely traditional country style pub. Cosy and peaceful. Food here is exceptional. Interesting menu that is a step up from the ordinary. Service and staff are very helpful and welcoming.

We had a lovely evening here. Came here to cheer ourselves up and treat ourselves after a tough week and it did exactly that. Cosy afternoon in the pub by one fire and then moved through to dining room to another cosy fire for our dinner. It was all delicious, well-catered for intolerances (a whole dairy-free menu available) and friendly efficient staff. Good range of beers and nice wine suggestions. Had a comfy nights sleep and then a completely delicious breakfast - black pudding and sausage very good and also the raspberry jam!

We don’t usually write negative reviews, but as local regulars who have visited weekly for over six years, we feel compelled to share our recent experiences - which have been extremely disappointing over the past few months. Firstly, the pricing has become very hard to justify. Drinks and food are significantly overpriced for what’s offered - the menu includes glorified fish and chips, priced higher than well-known London venues such as The Ivy, without the quality or service to match. On multiple occasions, we’ve ordered hot drinks while sitting in, only to be served them in paper takeaway cups, which feels inappropriate for a sit-down pub experience, especially at these prices. Food service has also been consistently frustrating. Each time we ask to order food, staff give different excuses - being told food isn’t served outside, that the kitchen is at full capacity, or that service isn’t available - yet we then see food being served to other tables, even when only a handful of tables are dining inside. The lack of consistency and clarity is confusing and off-putting. One particularly disappointing experience involved paying cash for a large bill which already included service charge for four people. Staff assumed we would be leaving the change as a tip and never returned it to the table. While we usually do tip, this assumption felt inappropriate and left a very bad impression. There also seems to be little appreciation shown to long-standing regulars, which is disheartening given how loyal we’ve been over the years. Additionally, the ongoing septic tank issues outside are unpleasant - the smell is extremely noticeable, and staff have repeatedly dismissed it by blaming the beck, which feels dishonest. Overall, staff often give conflicting information, suggesting poor communication or management behind the scenes. We genuinely used to love this pub and want to support local businesses, but the combination of rising prices, inconsistent service, and lack of transparency has made recent visits disappointing rather than enjoyable. We hope these issues are taken seriously, as it would be a real shame to lose what was once a great local pub.

Loved every second. Homemade cookies on arrival, help with bags as no lift. Rooms were tastefully turned out (we saw others too). Really comfortable bed despite us thinking it might be a bit hard. It turned out to be our best nights sleep in 17 days of our trip. The breakfast was of great quality with homemade granola, marmalade and local honey. Lots of choice and the cooked option was really lovely and cooked to perfection. The Sunday Roast was superb, as was the dessert. Every single member of staff we encountered were an utter delight. This place is incredible. Accommodations are nice enough but the restaurant/ dining is a legit 10. I live in California and my wife and I talk about flying back to England just for the Shibden Mill breakfast. Highly recommend.

Well there is only so much culture vulture action I can take in one day. So after a very pleasant day at Shibden Hall it was time for some light refreshments and the Shibden Mill Inn. What a fine looking pub it is too. Nice stone brick and big to boot. On wandering in I wasn't disappointed either. It's laded with oak beams and swanky rafters. All this adds to a cosy atmosphere. So I settled my bum and relaxed and relax I did. Maybe that was to do with the good selection of wine served by the glass if you wish, from around the world. Plenty of choice and three sizes to choose from. That's pretty much unheard of these days. The Merlot was a nice tipple. As for the food, this was a welcome treat. You can have a Yorkshire Pudding as a starter. Yes a starter if you wish. Follow that up with a massive slab of Shibden burger with deluxe chips or go for something more sophisticated like the mussels or fowl's breast. My only gripe was that it is quite dear for pub grub but it's very good pub grub so I guess I should leave my English complaining head at home. Overall a fine stop off for food and drink alike.

Cozy pub off the beaten path. Fairly certain we were the only Americans there but staff was very accommodating. Great vegetarian options and creative dishes!

The food is superb and never fails to please. The pub is an old coaching inn in a wonderful setting . It is a pleasant place to sit outside on a summer's evening.

I need to visit Elland every couple of months. I always look forward to staying at the Shibden. The Staff is excellent, rooms very nice and dining wonderful. Nothing at all to be critical about. I wouldn't consider staying anywhere else!
