Shibuya Stream Hotel (Tokyo, Tokyo) 3 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"In the popular imagination Tokyo is home to an endless flowering of creativity, and the popular imagination isn’t entirely wrong — but you have to know where to look. For Japan is also, in many ways, one of the world’s most traditional, conservative countries. All of which is to explain why, with a few exceptions, Tokyo’s hotels have been slow to embrace contemporary architecture and design. A hotel like the Shibuya Stream Hotel is a step in the right direction: occupying a distinctive modern building near Shibuya Station, it’s a hotel that’s aimed at creative professionals, and boasts the aesthetics to match." - Tablet Hotels

If you book early this is a hotel with a very good location at a reasonable price. The hotel building is directly connected to the train station so you don't even have to go to the ground floor to enter the station. The quality of the room is good as is with usual japanese hotel standards, but also surprisingly spacious for a Shibuya hotel. However, there is no microwave, only a communal one in a common use room so if you buy anything from conbini try to get it heated it up there first. For anyone staying here I recommend eating at my favourite curry chain restaurant 'Joto Curry' in the adjacent building, you won't regret it.

Google
The hotel really impressed me because it’s located right in the heart of Tokyo. It’s a bit tricky to enter and exit the hotel since there are many different floors and elevators, but the hotel itself is simply wonderful. It’s very convenient that you can do your laundry there, heat up your food, and there are many restaurants on different floors, so food is never a problem. The rooms are very clean and comfortable, and I loved the view from the window. It has everything you might need – toothbrushes, toothpaste, even hair oil and all the essentials. And the breakfast is absolutely delicious, truly five-star.

I had a stay at this beautiful hotel for about a week with my sister and niece. The property was beautiful and the rooms were more spacious than I imagined. I loved that the wet room was separate from the toilet area. The location was very central to everything and the hotel is right above a train station. There were tons of eating places near by and shopping within walking distance. The staff were very nice and friendly and the rooms were stocked with toiletry items. There was a drink station on my floor with free fresh clean water which I really enjoyed. Overall I would stay here again and would refer to friends!

Google
Staff were hit and miss but the room had an incredible view, it was modern and spacious, for Tokyo, and super clean. The lobby area and bar is fun and nice to hang out in. It’s a good deal at the 30,000 yen mark but prices in Tokyo have sky-rocketed recently so you may have to pay a lot more. Definitely recommend. We skipped breakfast but it looked amazing.

Google
The room was spacious for Japan and very modern. The view was incredible. We saw Tokyo towers from our room. The toilet had seat warmers and the shower pressure was great. We were on the top floor so no ceiling noise, the room was well insulted, didn’t hear neighbors at all. Hotel provides lots of amenities as well as breakfast, breakfast was ok but offers lots of variety. Location is fantastic, very close to trains, shopping, restaurants. And lots of signage so it’s easy to find.

Google
Nicely kept hotel right in the heart of Shibuya area. It's got an urban vibe to decor. Room was large and very quiet. Rooms have floor to ceiling windows with panoramic views of Tokyo. Breakfast was very good and had lots of options Only thing we remarked on was how dark the hallways are. That may be because Americans are used to very well lit halls. Would stay here again.

Google
This Hotel is conveniently located in the heart of Tokyo and near the Yamanote line which takes you everywhere you need to go in Tokyo. Plenty of restaurants, shops and convenience stores located near the hotel entrance. The rooms are small but exceptionally clean, comfortable beds. Toiletries are available at the front desk. The staff is professional and friendly. Breakfast buffet is pricey but good. Highly recommend this Hotel. I would definitely stay here again.

Google
Exactly what you want for your trip to Tokyo. Room: clean and modern. Nice to come back to after a long day of seeing Tokyo Service: staff was pleasant, but to be honest I truly only interacted with them at check in which was okay with me! Location: 10/10. Easily get to and from the metro To be noted: the gym is tiny, not much to use in there. There is no iron to be ordered to the room, you have to use a common area which was a challenge as most of my clothing was very wrinkly from being in a tight packing cube. The breakfast was okay, but nothing special

Yelp
It's an ideal place to stay in Shibuya as it's situated above Shibuya Train station and literally a block away from Shibuya Scramble and steps away from Hachiko statue, the beloved local Shiba Inu. You would be minutes away from major shopping center, like Donki. Two minute walk from the best Japanese Curry ( Joto Curry). Rooms would be spacious enough if you didn't accumulate extra luggage from shopping, lol. Floor to ceiling windows allowed for a memorable view. Just be aware that condensation might occur on floor windows, so be mindful not to place anything you don't want to get wet on that area. Beds felt more on the firmer side. Pillows and linens, so comfy. Options to be eco friendly. Toiletries were generous by the lobby area. Toilet seats were not warmed, a bit unusual compared to other hotels we've been to. Coffee and tea, flat and sparkling bottled water provided on our first day and I believe, if you have the room cleaned. An option for Eco-dependent practices available. Hotel Staff were welcoming, very helpful and so professional. We also enjoyed their Buffet Breakfast. I could stay here again.

Yelp
Loved this hotel! The staff were super friendly and helpful. The location is very central to everything in Shibuya and only a block from the Shibuya crossing. The hotel was very clean, room was very nice, everything is provided including toothbrushes, toothpaste, face masks, slippers, hair dryer, etc. The breakfast is included and is a great breakfast including made to order omelets and eggs Benedict.

Yelp
Great location. Clean stylish rooms. A tad small square footage but it's no different than NYC hotels. Excellent and efficient staff. Close to public transport, shopping and restaurants.

Yelp
This newer hotel opened up last September in 2018. I stayed here with one other person while on vacation for eight days in 2019 from July 1 to July 9th on the ninth floor. We were more than satisfied staying here. We could tell they were newer because all the restaurants and shops under it and around it wasn't fully opened yet, although most were. We choose this place because of its perfect location. There are currently two Shibuya Excel Hotels in Shibuya. This is the Stream location which is next to the stream and is the newer one. The other one is located at Mark City, which is even more central but a bit too crazy for us. Here are my pros and cons to staying here: Pros: - The location is perfect. It is very central to everything. Shibuya Station was right next door with an easy passage way. It was also a 5 minutes walk from the popular scramble. Getting to Center Gai and all the popular hot spots was a breeze. We couldn't have asked for a more perfect location. - There is a limousine bus that took us to and from the airport for a small fee. It was easy to take and the people working it were so nice. - 7/11 which has all the necessities was conveniently located right next door downstairs. This made getting cash and food so easy for times we wanted something quick or needed money. - The staff was extremely nice. We originally went to the wrong Excel hotel and they paid for our taxi to and from. They even handled all my huge American luggage all the way into the taxi car. During our stay we also asked for directions and one of the nice man working there took out a map and showed us exactly how to get to wherever. Also, we had packages delivered. They made sure we got our packages safely and even called to check. When my feet were in pain from walking, they gave me bandages. I would say they went above and beyond to make us happy. - The cleaning crew was excellent. All our toiletries were stocked everyday and our rooms were cleaned the minute we left the room. They were also really polite whenever we ran into them. - Their wifi was pretty fast. We had pocket wifis too but whenever we had to use their wifi we were not disappointed. - The rooms were pretty comfortable. Although they were small they had everything we needed. Can't complain about their beds. The bathroom was pretty large. There was a tub and a shower that were separate in the same room. The entire room was a wet room so it was pretty big. The toilet was a separate room and of course was a bidet. It had 24/7 seat warmers which was nice for nights. The sink area was also separate which I liked. - We had a mini fridge. Although it wasn't nearly cold enough it kept our water and some food items cool. (There is a communal kitchen on the 13th floor). They also provided us with tea, coffee, and even complementary of three water bottles per day. - There are plenty of food choices on their third floor. There are probably about 10 restaurants connected to the hotel, including Italian food, a cafe, and many others. Cons: - Although the rooms were organized and the bathroom area was large, the standard room was pretty small. The bed was pushed up against one of the walls to allow space. Also if you have a lot of luggage then most of your luggage will eat up space. Although the rooms were small though, it did have everything we needed. - There weren't enough outlets. Especially in this day and age. We made it work but I should have brought an multi-outlet cord to charge our iWatch, phones, pocket wifis, computer, and ipads. - I hated the lighting. Especially the sink area. If you are into makeup then you are out of luck. The lighting made it hard to do makeup. I also hated the lighting by the bed. It was too bright in some areas and not enough lights in others. I also didn't like where the switches were. I did like that there was one right by the bed to control of of the lighting so you didn't have to get out of bed but the rest were in terrible spots. It was a struggle to get to the bathroom at night. - Although they gave us toiletries, even bath salts, they did not provide lotion. - Like I have mentioned before, the mini fridge was not nearly cold enough. It would keep things cool but not cold. - They had a laundry room, communal kitchen, water room, and gym but they were all really small with not much. Their gym was a sad two cycle bike with maybe a spot to stretch and that was it. Their water room was just ice and a venting machine. The kitchen was probably the largest but all it had was a large table, some microwaves, oven and fridge. I guess it had the basics but do not expect anything crazy. Overall, we would come back and stay here again. It was perfect for what we needed and wanted.

Yelp
This hotel, as a property, is fantastic! The rooms are nicely decorated with great features and the location is ideal for Shibuya. The service & staff though are atrocious. I don't know if it's a lack of training or they just genuinely don't give an F, but any dealing with the staff is a nightmare.

Yelp
Stay for the location, NOT the service. Rude staff. Bad service model throughout. Length of stay: 6 days, 5 night. 12/20/18 to 12/25/18 Service at the Shibuya Stream Excel Hotel Tokyu is appalling. There is a distinct lack of warmth and graciousness. Granted, the hotel has only been open for 3 months so this might be a matter of finessing their service model, but what we experienced points to one that is not customer-centric. Here are a few examples: 1. After much appealing, they allowed us a late checkout time of 11:30 am; a full 30 minutes extra. He king out past that will incur a fee of about $100. At 11 am, we got a call from the front desk asking us to leave the room immediately! They are not accommodating, eager or even happy to make your stay more pleasant. 2. Seating for the breakfast buffet is baffling. There is an older gentleman who seats you. He is surly and rather stern. He will not seat a single person at a two-person table near the window. Go figure. 3. Perhaps it's simply a lack of training, but no one at the front desk knows how to troubleshoot the hotel's complimentary phone. Instead of trying to help you, they will simply tell you it can't be done. Here are a few tips to make your stay bearable: 1. The corner rooms are much larger. If you can, spring for this room type. 2. Don't bother buying the hotel breakfast. It is a poor excuse of a buffet. No standard fare such as eggs, bacon or potatoes. Instead there is an assortment of breads, pickled herring, mushrooms, rice balls, salad leaves and yoghurt. 3. There is a deli on the second floor of the building (hotel lobby is on 4th). The food is reasonably priced and delicious to boot. There is also. Starbucks on the other side of the 2nd floor. If you go to the 1st floor, you'll find Lawson and Family Mart a few steps away. 4. The hotel is close but not too close to the action. Plus, you can take side streets to avoid the mayhem of Shibuya Crossing and still get to all the amazing restaurant and bars. 5. There is a washer and dryer on the 11th floor. Be prepared to spend at least an hour waiting for your clothes to dry. Be sure to clean the lint trap. There are many other places to stay in Shibuya so we would probably not stay there again because of the bad service. It's a shame because I really love the location.
