Shield's Restaurant Bar Pizzeria

First timer at Shields. Lunch time. Chill atmosphere. Had the antipasto salad for one. My server Constance was great. Came back a couple times to check on me. I'll surely come back to try other dishes. And Jill the server was great!

The ambience of the restaurant is quite pleasant, with a charming rustic and old-world vibe that gives it a cozy, laid-back feel. However, the lighting could use some improvement, as it felt a bit dim and uneven in certain areas, which slightly took away from the overall atmosphere. Service-wise, things were decent but could be more efficient. Now, onto the food, which is the true highlight. The pizza was absolutely delicious, bursting with flavor and made with fresh, quality ingredients. What impressed me most was that it tasted just as good when reheated later, which speaks to how well it was made. The pasta sampler was another standout, it’s a must-try for anyone visiting. Each variety offered a different rich, savory flavor and tasted incredibly fresh. The clam chowder soup deserves a special mention as well. It was creamy, perfectly seasoned, and filled with tender clams, it’s honestly one of the best clam chowders I’ve ever had. Overall, while there’s room for improvement in terms of lighting and service speed, the food more than makes up for it. I will definitely be returning for another meal, this place is a hidden gem for food lovers.

My high school family of teachers. Counselors principal and administrators met here for dinner celebrating our 2 week Christmas break! Reserved area was too crowed. I had to squeeze in between one table to get to my seat in the back! Manager should have checked table spacing and modified! Fish and fries was served hot... very tasty. Thick Clam Chowder soup needed dilution to thin it out and more clammy taste in ingredient. Overall seemed as though everyone enjoyed the large selections of pizza and salads. Bustling atmosphere with large black sorority ladies filling the opposite side of room. Waitress was doing her best to keep up with all orders and deliver them quickly . She was good and really working hard to please each one of us in our party.

I went here to catch up with one of my boys on a good Saturday afternoon that I haven't seen in a while. He suggested it and was like, "Man, I haven't been here in 30 years since my high school days!" It was a great vibe and time. The DJ was nice with the music. The bartender was excellent with his service and attentiveness. There was a Birthday party going on that had little children there with a great set-up. There were plenty of TV in there for me to watch several college football game. Just an all around great time was had. Plus, my boy put me up on the Joe Wings that are not on the menu. They were phenomenal.

Attended the jazz group's holiday performance. Great atmosphere and service even with the big crowd. Ordered a Caesar salad with salmon. Salmon portion was small, dry and overcooked. Haven't had their pizza in awhile but willbe back to check on that.

Very good selection of food and drinks; we went here for an American pizza. It was very good.

Chicken wings have too much sauce, more like wings with gravy. Maybe they should put some sauce on the side. I didn't get Detroit style pizza that they are famous for. Had Detroit style couple of times in catering and they are good. This time was a regular round pizza and it was ok. Too much cheese and not enough tomato sauce.

I grew up in Farmington Hills/Southfield and the food is great as usual, The owner is very nice very personable, it’s a laid-back atmosphere with family and friends together. I’ve been going there since I was a baby girl. My parents also went to shields long time ago it’s a family spot!

Came for a party so we had the back banquet area. The staff was on top of things, kept the food and pop refilled and were walking around regularly to pick up dirty plates and cups. The food was great as always! Their pizza is so good, I also love the antipasto salad and surprisingly the meat pasta and breadsticks were really good. Those aren't something I would normally eat but did try and was glad I did, I went back for seconds!! Also, did you know, they have a dj and free hip-hop line dancing class on Wednesday's?! I thought that was different but pretty neat!

Solid Detroit pizza!!! We were served by lovely Kim who took a kind liking to my daughter; treated her so sweet!! She's the business when it comes to service. Thursday night karaoke was going, some of these folks in Southfield got it goin' on! Great voices, people were having a blast. Bar offers full service, wasn't too busy...just right after a long flight into the DTW area. The wings were good! Solid, good crisp, good pull and a balanced sauce. 4.5/5 Pizza was great! Airy crust, good cheese pull, fresh ingredients...sauce was rich. If I could have made any changes, I would have had a bit more sauce on it and cup style pepperoni to hold that juicy grease. 4.45/5 - winning pizza and one of the best D town style pies I've had yet! You won't go wrong here. Very good food.

Let's start with the good. So I came here for a birthday party. The karaoke was an AWESOME vibe. The pizza was good but not GREAT. Bad: I ordered a simple loaded potato and salmon Caesar salad. Can't get more basic than that. The salmon was so dry, it was harder to eat than the croutons. I have a video showing how I had to poke and beat the salmon to break it up. Salmon shouldn't snap like chips. And the potato was awful in taste and came out cold. When I finally got the waitress attention she said she would tell her manager. The manager said they would take $5 off my bill instead of taking the food back. I couldn't eat the food. I just paid the bill and moved along. At the end of the day, I won't return. Detroit has too many awesome eateries with excellent customer service and vibes to waste my time spending money where I can't get basic service and food.

Ordered some DELICIOUS food for Sunday Night Football. Everything was fresh and very well made. Service was prompt and the restaurant is clean with plenty of room to dine in. There's a bar and TV's to catch Detroit sports teams in action. Highly recommend!

I'm a Detroit pizza aficionado, of course, and I had never made it here but it's always claiming to be one of the best. So tonight, we did it! Took them 10 minutes to get my bf a Guinness and me a Moscow mule. Onion rings were ok, not much seasoning. Pizza was great, but I think the sauce could use a tad more seasoning. The seasonings come in small plastic containers and not in a glass shaker which is weird. Overall I would do take out but not sit in. Green lantern and Louis have them beat.

This was my first trip to Shields since my aunts rehearsal dinner over 30 years ago. I ordered a small round cheese pizza, after a recommendation from our server who is from New York, my husband ordered the ribs. It was 8:30pm on a Friday night so the place was pretty empty, but there were a few large parties lingering. The pizza was pretty good, but I wouldn't order it again. To me the sauce was gritty, but the cheese was excellent. My husband enjoyed his ribs, and they were truly fall off the bone, we would come back for those. Overall I would say the food was meh, but service was incredible. Way to go Yiesha!

This is favorite place to get Detroit style pizza. I haven't been here in decades & it's just as good as I remembered. My order is always the same: an order of spud skins & a small Shield's super pizza. You can't go wrong with potatoes topped with cheese, bacon, & green onions dipped in sour cream. The spud skins are like a cross between a baked potato & potato wedge. The pizza crust is has a slight crisp on the outside but it's soft on the inside, with plenty of toppings & just the right amount of sauce. In my eyes, this pizza is perfection.

The kids love coming here on Fridays. They have a good selection of pizzas and appetizers. Service is usually quick and everything comes out looking, smelling, and tasting amazing! The ambiance is family oriented. Our daughter likes the kids menu w/ the games and puzzles stay busy until dinner arrives. We'll keep this place in our Friday night pizza rotation.

Best Detroit style in Michigan hands down! Sweet tasty sauce, plenty of cheese, fresh toppings and the crust is soft with crisp edges.

Very good pizza; leaves Buddy's in the dust (not sure why they're so highly rated). Extensive menu, all of which is very good. The wait staff has always been very attentive, friendly, & accommodating. The pizza is always great-very tasty pizza sauce.

Great pizza arrived hot and fresh for delivery..ordered from Uber eats..got a buy one get one free deal..and it was tasty.

Place could use an upgrade for sure; but the service and food is always really good! We went in tonight with 5 people. Ordered the large beef nacho, large pizza and salad. Service was great - food was good too! We will be back.

Jay the gm was very rude and so was the bartender. Food delicious. Detroit location. Jay cursed at me and treated me very unkind. Owner never called me back to discuss the issue. Jay also called my gf and told me that I was poking the bear and not to call the owner. My gf gave a birthday party there. Entirely too much to type. I left and didn't eat my food. ​

I went to visit again and I really in enjoyed the karaoke here !!! it was so much fun , on a Saturday night.

They weren't busy at 2:30 on a Sunday 3/16. There were 2 tables plus us in our section. Our waitress was terrible!!!!!!! KyraS She brought out barely warm pizza and it was already soggy on the bottom. Gave us a drink and within 1 full hour never came to check on us. I went and found another waitress so we could get our bill paid. I tracked down our waitress. Ridiculous!!! Never going back. Buddy's green lantern and Buschemies now get my business. You had your chance Shields! Two thumbs down

The food was good. Service was good and I enjoyed the ambiance. We had a really nice time singing, laughing, and spending time with some really good friends from WSU.

I used to order a ton from the Troy location and was alway great. Cant say the same about the Southfield location. They couldn't even bother melting all the cheese in the Nacho I ordered, for over $16 (half order). No salsa, no sour cream, and had to pay extra for jalapeños. Website menu prices are off vs when you order. Had I not gotten there a few minutes early, my order would have sat on the counter, opened. Disappointment.

I'm sad yall. Aelizabe helped tho. Shields has been a family staple for years and years. My ex husband and I had our first date here all the way back in 2012 - tons of great memories here. Suddenly, I'm met with a one page laminated menu that had a "mandatory gratuity for parties of 3 or more" across the bottom of it. I am offended by restaurants that do that. Let's get into the food: - Michigan salad; Came covered in raw mushrooms with the dried cherries beneath it and chopped walnuts. Like, finely chopped. They didn't skimp on the bleu cheese but still. - Pizza; thank GOD they left that alone. Delish! - Wings; we got garlic parm and sent them back immediately. I asked for them cooked hard, they were light, and then covered with some white sauce that I couldn't even try. Naked wings got sent back with sauce on the side and then we realized.... Garlic parm wings are actually wings covered in Alfredo sauce. Our server came was 15 mins after we sat and didn't write down a single aspect of my order. As predicted, she came back to recite the order which she definitely forgot but I will say....she did what she could to make things right. I appreciate that. Over all.... Damn Shields...The thrill is gone. Update: Ok so the gratuity wasn't included on the check and Aelizabe worked super hard

I order occasionally from here (not close to my home) , I always enjoy the pizza, it's always properly cooked and the sauce they use is great. Did dine in here once a couple years ago, had no problems at all. Wish Shields would have a carryout place in the western suburbs (they had one in Commerce but it shut down after a couple years).

I ordered a Michigan salad and it was very horrible . It was by far the worst Michigan salad that I've had from any restaurant it barely had any of the ingredients it was mostly mixed greens This salad was $16 and did not come with chicken. This was too expensive for my salad to lack all of the other ingredients. food is too expensive now to have minimal service food with no care.

Saturday night Karaoke and the waitstaff is atrocious. Seems like they only have one waitress for the party, really? We eat good, drink, good and tip generously! They need help. My party of 4 smh very disappointed.

I'd like to preface this review with a couple positive things. This one star review isn't a reflection of the entire restaurant staff, or the food. We've been here multiple times and the experience has been good. But I'm writing this review in hopes that it will bring attention to how poorly me and my family, and many other family's were treated by one specific server tonight. Which in turn might make the management respond accordingly towards him. The server in question is a young man who clearly doesn't care to be working at a restaurant, I don't blame him I worked the industry for over a decade and know that it can be demanding and tiring. However to completely disregard your job while you're at work makes no sense to me. I know people have off days but every time we've been here we've noticed how slow and how bothered this kid is to be there. We waited 20 mins just to be said hi to. Another 10 to get water, another 20 to put our food order in and after over an hour of waiting for our food I asked about it and found out that it was never even put in. Everytime he walked past us he avoided eye contact and when he did say anything to us he was clearly bothered by simply doing his job. A family next to us had a similar experience and the large group that came in after us was treated the same. Over all they had 20 people walk out of the restaurant. They gave us a coupon for our next visit and apologized for the inconvenience. Which I appreciate, but it still doesn't make up for the lack of care. I'd say they lost about $500 in food orders and then on top of that handed out another $500 worth of coupons. To me it seems like a no brainer to let the kid go, at this point his disregard for his job has cost the company time and money, and us time and money. We walked away hungry and annoyed. I hope that they take some action and would gladly write a positive review down the road if they get their stuff together.

Where do I begin? I was excited to come here as family members are returning home so we came as a farewell date. The place is nice for a somewhat of a neighborhood spot. I hated the food. The pizza (spinach, feta, and tomato) was not tasty at all. The sauce was too sweet for me, of course I got a large (leftovers for lunch the next day) threw it out. The service was slow and it wasn't crowded. My sister in law suggested this spot but I think they only get wings and drinks This must be a good place for the regulars.

Love this place service was top-tier. Drinks were great. Pizza was amazing. Employees were amazing.

I am just visiting the area from another state and I wanted pizza for dinner. I did a quick Google search and found Shield's. This was some of the best pizza I've eaten anywhere in the country. I mean it. Delicious!

I've never had a good experience with carry out. Almost always is made wrong, or "never got the order." Used the website to order and they never got the order but the charge went through.

I never do bad reviews but I must be honest. We had a horrible experience here. All our food had to be sent back and the owner told us we had to pay half price for the food they messed up, plus full price for our replacement order. The customer service was very poor. Considering our Table Ticket was $125+, we could have been treated better. I can not in good faith, recommend this establishment

Excellent place for a party!! We had about 25-30 people and ordered off the menu, service was outstanding - from Management checking in often to our wonderful waitstaff led by Lemond .. they never stopped moving and serving while being so friendly, courteous, and Patient with everyone.

If my daughter didn't love this pizza, I honestly would never come here. Service and attitudes are bad, REPEATEDLY! My review is not just based one visit, it's a combination of several take-out orders and dine-in experiences. Do better Shields!!

The service ABSOLUTELY SUCKED!! The waitress NEVER came over to our table because she was "working" a big party. We didn't even get a cup of water. The waitress told us to go to carryout and order our food. It's been years since ive been here and I will NEVERRRR come back here again!!!!!!!!!!!

I had to try the other old school pizza place that has been around since the 1940s since I have always eaten at the other, Buddy's. My late mother told me she tasted pizza for the first time in the late 1950s when my late father brought a baseball team from Kokomo IN to play a tournament. Maybe it was this one instead of Buddy's. I was hungry for spaghetti and couldn't get a menu up for other small businesses Italian places so besides pizza I got spaghetti which came with a salad and garlic bread sticks. The pizza had my normal, pineapple, mushrooms, and ham with extra sauce. I got 2 meals out of the spaghetti and even warmed up in my oven it was good. I also got 3 meals out of the pizza and it ranks up there in my top 10. But the salad was terrible. Brown lettuce, too warm from being put on top of the spaghetti box and cooling half of it in the fridge for supper didn't help. I am glad I had my own dressing since so little was included. The garlic bread sticks were what you expected, good. The person who brought my order out wasn't pleasant. He told me, not nicely, that I should have paid over the phone instead of having them run my card there. I think I will go to the other location next time.

Timeless Detroit tradition. Pizza is always great and served in the deep dish Detroit style. Toppings are fresh. The cheese bread is very tasty but a little greasy. Did carryout and everything arrived hot.

Just moved from Texas back home to Michigan to retire. Stopped by this location for dinner and had the best dining experience and server by the name of Rich. Food was great and we were made to feel that our business was appreciated and the owner Paul stopped by our table to chat to make sure everything was good. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants great food and service! AAA+

Ok, so I tried one more time to carry out from this location. Don't! I called and ordered a pizza was told to pick up in 30 minutes. I arrived in 20, only to be told they did not have my order. This is the second time this has happened. They asked if I was at the right location, I hit redial on my phone to show them I called the correct location.... Or did I? Lol They then asked me if I still wanted a pizza....

I visited this Sheild's location Sunday and I was extremely disappointed my waitress was very unpleasant and hostile . The pizza was so dry and flavorless I couldn't even eat it , I asked my waitress for extra sauce for the dry pizza and she rolled her eyes . STAY AWAY FROM THIS SHIELD'S LOCATION ! The Woodward Ave location has never let me down like this .

I've been to Shield's many times and highly recommend the wings and the long Island iced tea (if you're an adult beverage drinker...lol). I tried the meatballs for the first time, and I'm mad I hadn't tried them earlier. They're delicious! You get 3 nice-sized, tasty meatballs covered in a very flavorful sauce and plenty of melted cheese...the only thing missing was garlic bread to sop up the sauce (or should i say gravy ). You usually can't go wrong with the pizza either, but my crust was a little underdone (first time that's happened). It was still pretty good after I put it in the oven for a few minutes (my order was delivered)

This is my first time here. I ordered a small create your own pizza (well done 4 square, with veggies). I get the pizza home and it has soaked through the pizza box. I mean there is oil on my car seats and on my kitchen counter. The pizza is soggy. I am not happy with the quality. I picked up one slice and the bottom of the box was attached to the slice. Pizza is too soaky to enjoy. I probably won't be returning, except to get a REFUND. I hate wasting my money on food. I'm currently waiting on a manager to call me back. This just ruined my lunch hour.

My favorite pizza place to come to when I visit Southfield from Vegas . I've been eating here about two years now and it never disappoints. I love traveling and trying all kinds of pizza and I have to say, Detroit style is top 5.

Ordered the bbq chicken pizza. Had just the right about of bbq sauce and toppings. Chicken, red onions and cheese. The flavors were perfect! I will definitely order again.

I haven't had Shield's Pizza in years and wanted to try it again. The pizza was really good and flavorful. The potato skins was a great appetizer too. The service was good as well.

I've been to Shield's a couple of times before, but last night I went to listen to Karaoke, and I have to say it was so much fun! Very crowded as well! I was thinking I wanted to order Beef Nachos, but ended up seeing that they had a Mexican Pizza. So I decided to try that, and it was very good! I will definitely go back for more Karaoke entertainment and food!

The waiter didn't pay any attention. We waited about 20 minutes for our drinks. The waiter asked us if it was the same or separate. He charges my card for the ENTIRE BILL and my friend paid with cash that he at this point STOLE! Update: The waiter printed out an entire NEW receipt, tipped himself $60 and THEN FORGED MY SIGNATURE! Why would I tip $60 on a $30 bill? It's the principle of it and it's multiple reviews saying something similar but it was an "auto tip". They have stolen money from people.. the auto tip is a LIE

Horrible, the waiter was mean to us they are loud and we found the devils flour on the table and it smelled like baby oil and a public school bathroom in the sun since 1967

We would come in sometimes to enjoy the people and the service was okay. Most of the time the food was good. However, our biggest mistake was to order food for an event. We called in an order based on the on-line prices and the manager took the order and confirmed the prices of the order by line item. As HE said yes 30 pcs bone-in chicken $27.99- and 8-10-party Greek salad $17.99 which means with tax this would be $48.74. When we got there, they said the total was $65.20. After going back and forth as they knew he quoted d the on-line price over the phone which we accepted, he did not step in and honor that price. In the need for food for this event we end up paying the higher price for some not so-good food, make sure you check your food as well!! Have you ever seen a salad with a pound of cheese on it. Our guest had rake around the cheese to find the little greens in the pan. Think twice before you order cater food from this place. WE ARE DONE WITH SHIELD'S!!

The pizza was amazing, the nachos were cool but they were kinda dry bc you only get on small little cup of salsa and sour cream. But the atmosphere was jumping!! It was karaoke nite and I was just getting take out.

Horrible service she was rude af don't know her name but She was a black woman she possibly was pregnant and had a scarf on her head her stomach was hanging out the bottom of her shirt but the food wasn't bad I still will not return due to the service
