The 21 Essential Maui Restaurants

"Chefs Shin Kim and Sean Ikeda blended their names to create “Shikeda,” a Japanese patisserie that sells out of its delectable sweets and bentos by mid-afternoon each day. Get there at opening time, 11 a.m. sharp, for the best selection of miso pork belly and unagi lunch boxes packed with ume-dusted rice and pickled seaweed. Or skip straight to the dessert case, which resembles a Bergdorf Goodman jewelry counter. The Totoro-shaped choux au craquelin are almost too adorable to devour, and the pavlova are delicate ballerina skirts made of meringue. And then there are the roulades, light and airy roll cakes of every flavor: banana, matcha, Kula lavender, and holiday specials such as candy cane and cocoa. The chefs can’t quit experimenting, which is both wonderful and excruciating for fans who develop favorites." - Shannon Wianecki, Bill Addison

Amazing pastries! Super friendly staff too. We stopped by this on the way to the airport after spending a week on the island. The only regret is that we didn’t discover this place earlier as we would have come by several time. Don’t miss the ginger cookies.

This place was one of the last places we went to. The pastries were all amazing. We tried 3 different kinds because they do sell out pretty fast. I would come here when they first open in order to get your first picks. If you come later on, there might not be any left for the day. They also have ready to go meals in case you want a quick meal. Good service. You can find nearby parking. Prices are economical.

Went with my sister recently. The staff were exceptionally kind. Ordered the miso pork belly and strawberry guava pavlova bento for myself. This felt like a small portion at first when I got it to the eating it was portioned very well! The pork belly was very tasty and the sides went well with it all the change up the flavor. Also got a matcha dessert pastry (pictured) with it and this was amazingly refreshing! My sister had the fried chicken and she loved it as well. Can’t tell anything about the flavor cause it was there one moment but gone the next but I’m guessing it was good. The peace de resistance was this pastry that was given to us as a taster treat that they were added into their menu soon -I think. It was salmon and I believe feta cheese which was savory and sweet. Love, loved, will order again soon! Lastly and later in the day, we shared a delicious sweet pork bun (pictured) (sweet and yummy) and a pot pie bun (home-y with a bit too much bread) too. We ate these a bit later that day because what we had above was very filling. Didn’t get too many pics but will next time!

OMG the pastries are decadent. So many choices you want a taste of everything. We got a few different pastries so we had a bite of our chosen few. Bentos are just as yummy

This food court is a hidden gem in Wailuku. The pastries smack! The bentos are good too. And everything sells out daily so if there’s something you really want, then go early. The parking lot is small and apparently closed when we came so something to look out for. Very casual ambience given that it is a food court which is perfect for kids and families. You wouldn’t expect such high end pastries from a food court, highly recommend!

We came a bit before closing so there wasn't much left but I was definitely excited to get my hands on the Ube Mont Blanc Tart. I will say I wasn't blown away at first because it wasn't as sweet as my dumb brain probably expected. Then you begin to appreciate the subtleties in the textures and flavors. There was, what I believe to be an azuki bean pureé, layered in the middle of the tart. It wasn't overly sweetened which helped you to appreciate the earthy flavors of the Ube. I want to go back for sure, if not to pick up one of their awesome t-shirts, to try everything on the shelf.

We loved this small bento & bakery from the second we walked in. You can get pre-made bento boxes with pork belly or mackerel. The pickled vegetables are a perfect pair for the savory meal. You have to save room for the desserts. Hands down our favorite was the Ube Coco - a cream puff topped with ube & coconut flakes. All I could think was that it was deeply satisfying. It was the best thing I ate all day. The other pastries ranged from sophisticated (Mango Opera Cake) to fun (Fruity Pebbles Eclair). They’re all worth a try & the owners was super friendly.

Google
We went for dessert and had the Pumpkin Chai Tart, Chocolate Chantilly Cupcake, Hokkaido Cream Cake, Macadamia Mocha Cream Puff, Strawberry Shortcake (my favorite), Lilikoi Toffee Cream Puff(close second), Ube Cream Puff and the Five Spice Gingerbread Cookie is what every gingerbread cookie is trying to be. Everything was incredible and the owners were so friendly and helpful . This is worth the trip to Wailuku!

Yelp
I've been here to enjoy their delicious pastries before but never seem to be in town during their lunchtime hours (11:00 to 3:30) just a couple days a week. But we finally made it! They were busy with the downtown Wailuku lunch crowd, which was good to see. Aeszalyn was very nice and helpful. The savory dishes looked very good but we had just finished lunch and wanted dessert, so we selected a couple of cream puffs (my favorite fruit). They were sooo delicious! The Macadamia Mocha cream puff had expresso chocolate custard filling, dark chocolate on top with mac nuts around the edge. The Lilikoi Toffee cream puff had lilikoi (passion fruit) custard filling, white chocolate on top with bits of Toffee around the edge. Don't ask me to decide which one was better! Planning a return trip to try their savory meals.

Yelp
This is a hidden gem inside the main street promenade. There is some street parking close by. Went early afternoon and thankfully had quite a selection of pastry items to pick from. Was greeted as we entered this small establishment, clerk was very sweet and happily answered all my questions. With her help picked out the lilikoi toffee and mocha macadamia. They looked beautiful and were fabulous! Outside was flaky and both held a huge amount of the creamy custard inside. I would definately get these two again.

Yelp
Would give this place a 6/5 if I could! Small, locally owned, fabulous pastries. They always have the most unique flavors and creations as well. They also serve bento boxes and musubis!!! I've never had anything I didn't love.

Yelp
The last few times we've gone, we've just been pretty disappointed. While the pastries look fantastic, they just kind of fall flat with their flavor and texture. The cream puffs seemed hard and the cakes just bland and dry. I've tried to keep an open mind because we used to like it so much but after our last visit, I just can't see myself going back. Ugh so sorry.
google avatar

Yelp
This was a very unassuming spot for what turned out to be some pretty delectable food. Sure they have very tasty bento boxes. But for me I really liked their swiss rolls. If you've never had a swiss roll you should definitely try them from here. These are great versions. They're friendly people too- always a plus. Check them out.

Yelp
I love coming to shikeda's! Service is always friendly and great, the lunch is always delicious, and the sweets - oh my YUM. Always mouthwatering. Their space in wailuku at the promenade is neat, clean, and inviting. Especially when you see those bentos stacked up and the glass case with all those desserts inside! Their bentos are the perfect size for lunch. My fave is the chicken katsu because they use chicken breast so theres no weird pieces of chicken in there. It's also not fatty which is perfect because i am super picky with my chicken. I also love their salmon which is another thing they do perfectly because i normally do not like salmon! Now the desserts. I have not tried anything i did not like here. Everything is delicious. As you can see from my pictures, my favorite is that matcha strawberry roll. It is soft, spongy, delicious. I wish i had that today, my mouth is watering just looking at those past photos. But not to worry about me, you know what i DID have today? Lots of ube goodness. So delicious. That is the KEY word today folks. DELICIOUS. There is a seating area in the promenade so you can pick up your lunch and desserts and eat it right in there while it's warm and fresh. You can even order online if you can't make it there when they open because they DO run out of food. So either get there early or order online to make sure you get what you want!

Yelp
I made it a point to pass through the small town of Wailuku en route to Haleakala Summit to make a stop here. I've been obsessed with cutie bento boxes lately, so that's what I wanted from Shikeda. It's actually a tiny shop inside of a food hall. They had more stuff than I thought - cream puffs, shortcakes, spam musubis, croquette donuts, you name it! The pork belly bento box sounded special but I'm not into pork belly, so my husband and I shared the karaage & croquette bento box instead. We also got a spam and tamago musubi. And the croquette donut in char siu flavor. I had to convince myself not to get the the totoro cream puffs because we already got too much food. Maybe I should've though; the food was alright but not memorable. The char siu was a pink magenta, which threw me off because I'm used to bright red char siu found on the mainland. There's a bathroom in the food hall!

Yelp
I had a chance to try their food at a local event called "Joshi Kai" in Wailuku Town, as well as family getting their "Croquette Donuts" one day - the filling being warm and savory perfectly complimented the crunchy/crispyness of the outside, making it a perfect snack both in texture and flavor. Highly recommend ordering from them if you get to stop by Wailuku Town - Miguel Morales Photography

Yelp
Really cool lunch takeout spot for bentos and pastries! It's right in downtown Wailuku, and everything is conveniently ready to go. I got a saba broiled mackerel bento, which came with blistered shishito peppers, and pickled radish and ume. The saba was perfect with a squeeze of lemon and the ginger scallion sauce on the side!

Yelp
I've been to this restaurant twice one time to eat the food and today for a pastry. The pastry was good. The owner kind of explains his philosophy. I really also like how the food is displayed. It really does remind me of a stall in Japan. Considering the ingredients USED, the portion sizes, look fair and filling for the price of a lunch. The location is part of an evolving food court in the Wailuku town District, and it has indoor receding, which keeps you out of the elements. I definitely want to go back and check out the party or lunch food again.

Yelp
This place is like my new hidden gem. These sweet little treats are not only adorable but delicious too. There wasn't any matcha on my last visit. But I'm matcha obsessed & need to find an excuse to come back just to try it. You're definitely on my Valentine's Day wish list. Xoxo ChelsieFletcher

Yelp
Delicious miso pork bento box with pickles on the side. The cream puffs were scrumptious - Mac nut and lilikoi. The cashier was very friendly and welcoming!

Yelp
This relatively new bento and patisserie is located in the Main Street Promenade. There is street parking and a small parking lot next to the building. The owner was a sushi chef, who also made the desserts for the a Japanese restaurant in Boston. Bentos are made fresh daily. You can order online or call in. The daily menu is on their website, which can be accessed via Yelp. The daily pastry menu is also available online. To date, we have tried their crème puffs, strawberry shortcake, guava, and Uber chiffon cakes. All were excellent. Although the bakery is open on Saturdays, it is closed on Sundays. It's currently a hidden gem, but getting discovered by more customers daily.

Yelp
This is an awesome food court stall in Wailuku. They serve amazing Japanese style pastries as well as bento boxes at reasonable prices. Quality is very high and they seem to be always experimenting and trying to create new delicious products.

Yelp
The pastries this guy is making are just incredible. I had the lilikoi éclair, sweet and just bursting with passion fruit flavor. This is the thing my dreams are made of. I also got a lilikoi blueberry Pavlova. I love Pavlovas, and this one was sublime. Its flavors were soft yet pronounced and complimentary. He rotates the pastries weekly. My husband got a grab-and-go plate lunch that was pretty decent.

Geri K.

Yelp
Love their food and desserts! Service was top notch and the gal working there was so pleasant! Ambiance is simple but relaxed and comfortable.

Yelp
This is a tiny little spot tucked in a food court in old Wailuku. I stumbled across it because I love Niu Life which is also located there. I'm so glad we tried it. We got 2 bentos, a savory donut and 2 cream puffs. Everything was delicious! The miso pork belly wasn't too salty, the pickles were delightful, the fish was cooked well, the savory donut was probably the surprise hit of the meal and the cream puffs could probably hold their own in France. I went with mocha and lilikoi for those but I really wish I could have tried all the flavors. I chatted with the chef for a minute and he was very nice. You can tell he cares about the food. I also appreciate the small, well executed menu as you know I never trust a large menu. The tip jar is called a retirement fund so that was cute too.

Yelp
First time here. My family and I arrived early, so we were the first to wait in line. There were 2 others behind us, who seemed to have been there multiple times. Once the gate opened, we were able to select a variety of bento boxes. They were stacked on top our each other, under heat lamps. We selected a variety of bento boxes, the mentaiko rice balls, and some pastries. The bento boxes were good, but nothing extraordinary. The mentaiko rice balls were a bit fishy, but I guess that is the point, so no complaints... it is just a matter of preference. The rice portion of the bento boxes was a bit more than you need, personally. I ended up leaving a quarter of the rice. The service was friendly. No complaints there. Wailuku is an interesting place... appeared a bit older in nature and a bit isolated. Many stores were closed. Parking is challenging to find, so I recommend taking the first spot you see, then walk to your destination. Arriving early is also highly recommended.

Yelp
Added a few more pics of things I've tried...all delicious! The creative chefs at Shikeda are always coming up with great new ideas, and the offerings vary, but it's all amazing

E Y.

Yelp
Shikeda off Main Street is always a go to place to satisfy my sweet tooth. They offer creative flavors of cream puffs and unique local desserts like the lavender roll. This time we got a nice seasonal pumpkin cream puff. It was clearly a delicious treat. We also had the karage chicken, fish patty, kim chi, ginger and rice bento box. That was really tasty and satisfying. Also a genuine and thoughtful gift Shikeda does for their existing customers: they email a $5 gift valid for a certain time period and it definitely makes us feel appreciated!! Thank you!

Yelp
Inside the food court, came here right before 11am when they opened on a weekday and got in line. All the items I got were delicious, see the pictures. The choux buns had lots of filling and tasted amazing. The bento was great too and perfect for my flight. Will be back for onigiri in the future.

Yelp
Nice to have a place like this on Maui. Its located right inside the Main Street Promenade - the food court on Main Street in Wailuku. This post is a little late, but as I remember me and the wife had been making it a point to go there and it doesn't open til 11 (plus I heard they sell out fast) but the stars finally lined up and we found ourselves in Wailuku right around opening time. Nice clean display case of colorful pastries plus a fully stocked area with various bentos also. The workers were super friendly and even made recommendations. We got 2 bentos and the Ube Profiteroles, Azuke Choux, and Blueberry Lilikoi Pavlova. (I hope I got that all right) Again this is a late post- the bentos were good- but the pastries were amazing. Not too sweet, but I think the ube was the sweetest of the 3. If this was more fresh in the mind I could speak about textures but we enjoyed it enough to know I can't wait til we're in Wailuku around 11 am again :)

Yelp
Another hidden gem I've been wanting to try for awhile and I was not disappointed. This little take out place is located in the Wailuku Promenade. Parking can be a bit of a challenge, especially with the construction going on in the Wailuku Municipal Parking lot. They have several varieties of bentos, salad, and pastries ready to go. We tried the mochiko chicken bento and several pastries. The bentos come with rice, Japanese pickles, and a dipping sauce. The boneless chicken was seasoned perfectly and fried crispy. The dill dipping sauce went really well with the chicken. The portion size is good too. The pastries tasted as good as they looked. I can see why the azuki cream puff is so popular. It was the perfect combination and amount of azuki beans and whipped cream. We'll definitely be back to try more and collect more stamps for our stamp card!
google avatar

Bethani E.

Yelp
I absolutely love Japanese pastries and Shikeda does not disappoint. The puffs and rolled cakes have been a favorite to share with friends and family. For the puff rings, the matcha and chantilly are always on point. On our last order for Thanksgiving we were treated to holiday flavors like egg nog, pumpkin pie, candy cane, ube ginger bread and apple pie. The creams and puff pastry are light, flaky and flavorful. The pairings are unique but work. The roulade (rolled cakes) remind me of tokyo banana. If you get a chance to order their okonomiyaki fries, it's amazing. All the flavors of okomiyaki are reminiscent of the real thing. Looking forward to trying their bentos and bowls. They are always sold out by the time we get there, so must go early.
google avatar

Dane K.

Yelp
First of all, they take great care on the presentation/look of their food. Very beautiful food products. Today I got ube coco puff and strawberry puff. Visually stunning. Both were tasty, crispy in the right places and not overly sweet. I preferred the strawberry. Nice place and will return
google avatar

Tash M.

Yelp
One word: Chantilly. Oh, the Chantilly is amazing. And I'm not a huge Chantilly person. Get it. Actually, get it all. You can't really go wrong with any of the choices here, to be honest. What I've learned is that although the shop is small and in a nondescript place, what it lacks in space, it makes up for in flavor. Other than the Chantilly (did I already mention That? Lol) I really like their salmon salad (haven't seen it in a while, so Shikeda, if you're listening, bring it back, please!) They've recently expanded their menu to include Hokkaido milk buns and those are soft, fluffy and sweet goodness available in sweet and savory versions. Everyone who has worked the front are very personable and engaging. They have a rewards stamp card and have an online ordering system. The only downside is parking (or lack thereof) and their short hours of operation. Bentos are a little pricey but what food product isn't nowadays. Otherwise, I hope this place stays!
google avatar

Jessi Lynne B.

Yelp
Yay! So stoked I finally made it here. I've only heard great things and I couldn't agree more. I definitely recommend checking them out on instagram since they post their menu for the day on their stories and you can catch the most updated information. They usually post around 10am, about an hour before they open. They're also super quick with phone orders so you don't have stress about getting in line early before everything sells out. One day I walked in at 11 and there was already like 10 people in line. I tried a bunch of things cause you have to try everything at least once! I loved the Caramel Banana Choux au Craquelin (Cookie-top cream puffs) and the Chantilly and Kula Roulade (cake rolls). So far the mochiko chicken bento is delicious because the Japanese dill sauce! It needs to be sold in a bottle lol. Misoyaki pork belly is also yummy and I can't wait to try the Tonkatsu Japanese Curry. I also tried the Spicy Salmon onigiri, a nice snack. So far every interaction both on the phone and in person has been pleasant. The workers are super genuine. They do have a stamp rewards card, earn a stamp for every $10 spent and then 10 stamps you can redeem for a patisserie I believe. Parking can be a little tricky since the big parking lot is currently under construction, but no stress, call in your order and it's all good.

Yelp
Beautiful and Yumm!!! They FILL their cream puffs with a delicious filling/pudding. Totally worth it!
google avatar

Yelp
Literally a hole in the wall, must try!! The store opens at 11am and there was a huge line when we got there at 11:10am. A long line means that place is good and it definitely was. Parking is extremely limited, theres a parking area to the right of the building or you can park along the street. We got the furikake salmon bento, pork belly kakuni bento, spicy salmon onigiri, ebi tempura roll, tokyo banana roulade, and the matcha berry roulade. We loved every single bite of everything. They offer stamp card rewards, so every $10 you spend it equals to one stamp on your rewards card. Definitely would go back again!!
google avatar

Yelp
Omg so good. We had to focus on savory stuffs for this visit but plotting our return to sample the exquisitely beautiful sweets Spam mush ume shiso - all my favorite flavors in one chubby morsel - yes please! Pork kimchi donut - curry pan style - yum! A relatively gentle kimchi, salty pork filling Miso pork belly bento - oh yeah especially loved the silky tofu that the pork belly was sitting on and the shiso furikake sprinkled on the rice was a nice touch Milk pan - super soft one with feta spinach the other with chicken pot pie filling - comfort food upon comfort food See you again soon!

R L.

Yelp
Holy smokes these goodies are yummy. Worth the drive here. The bentos also looked amazing.
google avatar

Keili J.

Yelp
Their pastries were yummy. The bento was also good but not a good price. It cost $14 for the same amount & quality of food you can get for an $8 bento from TJ's warehouse. And TJ's even gives discounts to that in the afternoon. If the price of the bento boxes went down to what TJ's offers, it would earn 4 or 5 stars. Please think about us struggling people just trying to eat a good meal. If the price went down you would sell even more than you already do! But again, I appreciate the desserts!
google avatar

Yelp
Hidden gem. I thought this place was as good as some of the high end japanese bakeries in SoCal. Specifically Pâtisserie Chantilly (although Chantilly is still better). I see a bright future!

Yelp
If I could give 100 Stars, I would give Shikeda everything they deserve. I'm not joking when this place BLEW us away on our trip in Maui. You KNOW it is a good experience when we visit a restaurant TWICE while on vacation but we had to come back to Shikeda. Shikeda is a Japanese bakery that bakes their sweets daily. What is amazing about Shikeda is they also sell hot meals: bentos, salad, and onigiri. I will split this review in their pastries and hot meals because I think there needs to be adequate space to RAVE about everything: For sweets, we ordered Azuki Cream Puff, Keiki Cream Puff, Strawberry Rose Cream Puff (x2), Chocolate Caramel Cream Puff, Oreo Cream Puff and Peach Ginger Rollcake. I think this review would be pages long if I were to go into detail about each and every piece we got so I'll give you the highlight reel. Keiki Cream Puff is as delicious as it was cute. It looks like a little Totoro and the eyes are light, fluffy, and delicious marshmallow. Got to get it for the cuteness factor. The Peach and Ginger Rollcake was wonderfully made. The cake was light not dense. Perfect amount of sweetness. They had crystalized ginger decorated on top and you can tell they must do the crystallization in house because you can taste the freshness of the ginger. The Chocolate Caramel Cream Puff tastes exactly like a Girl Scouts Samoas. Delicious with the caramel drizzle out the outside and a yummy chocolate cream center will delight any Samoas lover. The Strawberry Rose Cream Puff is a new item on their menu and it tastes EXACTLY like a strawberry shortcake ice cream!! The outside crush tasted exactly like the shortbread cookies from the ice cream version and the inside cream was deliciously light. I absolutely loved this item and I would definitely go back for another Strawberry Rose. For Hot meals, we ordered the Tonkatsu and Misoyaki Pork Belly. We also got the Garlic Salmon Onigiri. First of all, the attention to the bento boxes is astounding. All the boxes are different with specialized fixings along with the main course. The Tonkatsu came with curry and the Misoyaki Pork Belly came with two veggie dishes. We loved the Misoyaki Pork Belly. It was VERY well marinated with great miso flavor seeping in the meat. Great glaze and char. The Garlic Salmon Onigiri (2) we ordered twice because it was such a nice to go snack. Delicious and well marinated. Great garlicy flavors and the salmon was cooked well. What could you not like with rice and salmon! Run do not walk to Shiekeda. They open at 11am and if you do not get there right when they open you MIGHT not be able to get your pick of desserts. We got there the second day at 11:30am and there were already sweets that were SOLD OUT for the day. They make all their pieces day of with a rotating menu of different flavors which is really exciting for locals and tourists alike. *Also, we were able to put our Cream Puffs in the fridge to save for another day and will have to say if you arent able to eat the desserts day of, they hold up to the fridge test for a day. This was a tip from one of the workers :)

Yelp
This place is like a hidden gem located in the Wailuku Food Court (where MAPA is). I finally gave it a try and brought my keiki with me to try. The misoyaki pork belly and karaage&croquette bento were ONOLICIOUS! The kimchi pork donut has a surprisingly taste of subtle kimchi that compliments well the the home made ranch and also not oily. My son loved the foods and I think our next mission is to try the desserts.

Yelp
Update from March 2022. If you're in the neighborhood, Shikeda is a must. A small storefront in a food court, they offer tasty bento boxes and exquisite patisserie. The mango choux dusted with li hing & the strawberry guava pavlovas were my favorite. The profiteroles were a bit too sweet for my tastes, but if you like desserts on the sweeter side, these may be your jam. Hot tip #1: go early. They do sell out of items quickly. Hot tip #2: respect the locals.

Yelp
The hype is real people! Broke da mouth goodness. I stopped by a few weeks ago and the shop was closed but the owner was there and we talked story a little about the shop and what's happening with the food court (hint: more places opening there soon). He gave me a cream puff to try out - his latest invention Lychee Rose. OMG! It was crazy delicious. Light and airy not too sweet Chantilly cream, fresh lychee and just a hint of rose. I shared it with a friend with the words "I don't want share this because it's SO good - so this is what love looks like - here." I stopped by today just in time to nab a mochiko chicken bento and dang it - also crazy delicious. The dipping sauce has a zip of lime and every little morsel of everything was perfect. I got a couple puffs for gifts to friends and they report that they are already drooling for more. Get there early or call in ahead of time cuz these ono grinds go quick!

Yelp
To say I was excited that a place like this opened is an understatement. I got there about 20 minutes before they opened to already a decent sized line. I was about the 10th in line, luckily it was still in the shade as it got pretty hot out there. It took about 10-15 minutes till it was finally my turn to which the staff thanked us for waiting. I watched people in front of me walk out with multiple bags, glad I got there early. The way they have it set up is a good flow as you're able to grab the bentos & onigiri while you're waiting in line.It looked like that day, there were about 11 different pastries in the case. I got the salmon onigiri, along with some pastries, & proceeded to wait for my okonomiyaki fries. The salmon onigiri was good, salted with heat to it. I will say there was quite a bit of rice, but it was still very tasty. The fries, so crisp & was really like eating okonomiyaki toppings on top of fries. So savory & with a generous amount of toppings. The rolls, I got all of them that day except for the guava. The chocolate chantilly was good, chantilly was a bit sweet, but the cake wasn't so it balanced well. Birthday cake, which you'd think would be sweet wasn't, really good. I wish the actual thing tasted like this. Tokyo banana, was a favorite among the group, it wasn't that strong American banana flavor, it was the more subdued Japanese flavor, so yummy. Matcha berry was another favorite, the little tart from the strawberry complimented the match well. The cream puffs were good with crisp top, even after being in the fridge the top still had some crisp to it. Ube-coco is ube with coconut not chocolate, not sure why I assumed that when it was clearly spelled different. The ube flavor was a bit mild, the coconut definitely shined through on that one. French apple cream puff is literally like eating apple pie& ice cream in cream puff form with actual apple pie filling in it. After checking their IG, it looked like they were only open an hour & a half before selling out that day, but for good reason. I will definitely be back to try the other pastries & bentos. They also have a stamp card so for every $10, you get a stamp.

Yelp
I tried to go the week they opened around 2pm and the staff, or maybe the owner, said that they sold out in 30 minutes that day and that a line usually forms before they're even open! I heard that they usually sell out within an hour. So I went today, on a Tuesday and got there around 10:50am, with a line already formed of about 10 people. Get there early, people! But we were safe with that everything was still available in some quantity when we got to the front. Not sure how availability changes if you get there at 11, just know some days they sell out fast, just depends on the crowd. I went with my SIL & husband and we chose 2 things each and shared everything. Highly recommend if you want to try everything! The sugar was starting to get to us by the 4th item, and we all have quite the sweet tooth! we got a banana and a chantilly roll cake, the matcha lemon puff ring, macnut praline puff ring, ube coco choux au craquelin, and azuki bean choux au craquelin. Everything was delicious, but my favourite might have been the ube coco cream puff. Our least favourite was the matcha lemon puff ring, but we're just not lemon-y dessert type of people, so that's an us problem. Nothing was overly sweet and all of the flavours were balanced, but I'm sure glad we shared the sweets 3 ways. Also just need to give a special shout out to that banana roll cake because it totally exceeded my expectations and tasted like the perfect ripe banana and was actually kind of refreshing? I was expecting an artificial banana flavour and that isn't what it is at all. Will definitely be back but maybe as a once-a-month special treat lol!

Yelp
Located in the heart of Wailuku Lower Main St lies this cute pop up shop that sells cute pastries! Arrived there around 11:00am to see no line and a pretty full case of pastries so it was definitely my lucky day. They also have some savory options and bentos as well! The two people at the front were very kind and helpful. I got the Tokyo Banana (seems like the most popular) and the Matcha Berry. Both rolls were quite petite but very delicious. Super simple and light. It was about $4 per roll.

Yelp
I'm so glad I happened upon this while driving through! Definitely missed it the first time - I didn't realize it was in the food court. Nevertheless, once I figured it out, in I went and the reviewers were right, what a hidden local gem! The young lady at the counter was so sweet and explained to me what they had available. I grabbed the salmon bento - so good! The fish was so moist and flakey. The cream puff - literally, my favorite thing ever that I actually gasped in the car after my first bite. Delicious delicious delicious! I'll be dreaming of this cream puff!

Yelp
Shikeda officially had their soft opening today!!!! Open Mon/Tues/Thurs/Friday, from 11am until they sell out (or until 6pm). Have you ever had a craquelin? If not, I promise you haven't lived. A craquelin is like a large cream puff with a super light and crunchy exterior and an orgasmic cream filling. The French apple is my absolute favorite. If you love apple pie a la mode, you need to try this. The real apple bits accompanied by the fluffy cream and audibly crunchy crust will blow your mind. The azuki bean flavor one was my mom and dad's favorite because it wasn't too sweet. I can't wait to come back and try their bentos, onigiri, other pastries, and roll cakes!!! Such an amazing addition to the Main Street Promenade in Wailuku. They are in the food court as soon as you enter the building on Main St, in between Giannotto's Pizza and the Esther's Fair Project. There are tables nearby for seating. Service was great, Shin and Sean were super friendly and welcoming and I loved supporting a new locally owned business.

Yelp
Japanese Inspired Bentos and Patisserie! You're thinking Japanese Patisserie in Wailuku??? Yes - it's true! The bentos and bowls are so ONO. Be sure to check out their website or Instagram page for more information on specials.

Yelp
Finding parking is problematic. Restaurant is in a food court. We thought the Pork belly bento was excellent. Dessert was delicious and unique. Highly recommended.

Yelp
Everything here is great, can't go wrong! Little hole in the wall but totally worth it. Every desert is special and all the workers are super welcoming.
