The Best Food at The Tin Building Over Three Visits | Eater NY

"Hidden in a dark corner just beyond the candy store, the sushi bar Shikku was staffed only by a lonely itamae when I found it, so I decided to skip it." - Robert Sietsema

This was so much fun. I went here with a group of friends from work and we had so much fun. I definitely recommend. The food was amazing. We haven't gone to a hot pot dinner before, so it made the experience so much fun. We had no clue how to get started, but the waitress was so kind and helped us with ordering food and cooking it. The food tasted amazing and was so fresh. The service was fantastic and the staff was so attractive. We were seated in the basement of the restaurant, which was perfect for a party of 5. The atmosphere was so cozy and welcoming. If you are in town, I definitely recommend this restaurant.

Shikku Hot Pot is a small spot on Court St in Plymouth. Love the vibe there! They have a bar & cool decor. If it's busy, you may be placed at a table with another party. They have lots of good food options - from small plates to a selection of ingredients for building your own bowl. Each person gets their own small stove top. It's a bit pricey - the build your own bowl can end up easily being $30. The portions are decent though & you can take your leftovers home. The service was great - waiters were very friendly & attentive. We'll definitely be back!

This place was overall pretty great. The drinks and service were phenomenal however the broth seemed a little surface level and seemed to lack the depth of flavor that I have experienced in my travels and at other hot pot places in the US. The woodear mushrooms were not cleaned properly so there was some dirt grit to the bite. Even with those things, it is so hard for mess up hot pot that I would consider returning (especially for the bar).

My 2 brothers and I visited the other night and had amazing and flavorful meals. I had been here once before and ever since I was dying to make it back. I had the Szechuan Beef Tallow broth and the flavors were incredible with a perfect amount of spiciness. Our waitress was outstanding as well and went above and beyond to help us with the hot pots and choosing our food options. Thank you will be back!

Everything was pretty good except for the wagyu beef. It came out frozen solid! It wasn't rolled up nice like it is on their pictures online. I didn't really enjoy it because I couldn't cook it the right way. I told the waitress and she just looked at me and said you can just throw the whole thing in there 😳.... I mean if you're getting wagyu beef it should probably be presented the right way. Other than that everything was pretty good. I enjoyed the regular sliced beef much better because it wasn't frozen solid.... In response to the owner I apologize for offending you everything else was great I just couldn't get the meat to cook properly. To throw the whole thing in there stuck together, as the waitress suggested, it doesn't get the same feel as dipping it in a few times and having it come out perfect. You could tell that it was previously cut portioned and then Frozen as it came out stuck together all in a lump not even sliced and laid on the plate like the regular beef option. I also see that I'm not the only one that's complaining about the meat being frozen. You have to leave it in the broth for too long so that it comes apart it was frozen solid, and wasn't as tender in return. I will come back i just won't get the wagyu 😊

The combo pots is for 1 person or small pot only. We had the $35 fungus combo with Tom yum soup based and we have to order a separately order of beef kidney, and white rice. Average home style hot pot with high end price. Not an everyday choice.

A single server was attending to a full restaurant. Fresh out of house sauce with no intention of replenishing. Fantastic last time. Instead of fried rice w bulgogi, received a fatty alternative we were later informed wasn’t what we ordered. Yuzu lemon drop was a not good, key ingredients out of stock, no bubble.

This was my first experience with Hot Pot. I am now a fan. Took my Daughter here for her bday and she loved the experience and food. Tons of flavor. Very cool atmosphere.

Yelp
Volt is a wonderful server at an extraordinary restaurant. If you've never tried a hot pot restaurant, the time is now. Shikku Hot Pot's food is extraordinary; a panoply of colors, aromas, textures and spices. Everything is fresh and cooking before you. If you've never tried hot pot and need a little more information or want the best service in Massachusetts, ask for Volt. Also worth noting is that this place is modern, immaculate, and sparkling clean. This was just what I needed after my disastrous last meal at an unnamed metal-tabled fifth-rich restaurant named after a smoked jalapeño but whose name I will not disclose.

Yelp
This is a place that is best appreciated by a mid-sized group of adults--3-6 people. Hot Pot is a social activity and smaller groups will likely spend an equivalent amount to achieve the same flavors as would naturally occur in a larger group.

Yelp
Came here with my daughter 5/24/25 for the first time the food was excellent. Got to make it the way we wanted definitely worth it. Our waitress she was excellent helped us make excellent choices.. The restaurant has a very nice design and atmosphere.

Yelp
We had a wedding dinner here for four people at the groom's choice. It was a memorable experience fitting the occasion, especially given the fabulous service by Nick. The menu options are almost overwhelming. The food is good, but not better than in less classy places. I consider this to be a 'dining experience'.

Yelp
This place is top level. Usually we go to Quincy or Chinatown for Hot Pot. It is so great to have such awesome place nearby! The food is incredible - for vegetarians, the options are plentiful. And the drinks...the drama in the presentation of the Lemon drop and its elevated taste profile are like nothing I've ever had. This place is a must go!

Yelp
This is hands down the most gorgeous hotpot restaurant I've ever been to, I love the trendy decor and appreciate the attention to detail. The broths here are homemade, not packaged powdered broth mix, and you can instantly tell from the first sip. We came with a group of 4 and chose to do individual pots instead of the shared big pot (love that they give you the options of one or the other). We tried the pho, tonkotsu, shio, and red curry; they were very flavorful without being too heavy. The quality of the meats, seafoods, and vegetables are fresh and great value for the price! I would definitely be stopping by again the next time I'm visiting the south shore!

Yelp
Good service , Great cocktails, and the food it on point . I went in twice in the past few weeks and will continue to frequent this place. We walked in and had two great meals it was fast and efficient with a friendly bartender. What else could you ask for. If you're in downtown Plymouth hit this place for dinner of whatever. You won't be disappointed.

Yelp
This place is great. Got the all you can eat premium deal for $50/pp and the american wagyu was fantastic. Even better was the szechuan beef tallow broth. So good! I ate so much food and it was all fantastic this is better than Q in chinatown for sure definitely check it out

Yelp
Food was ok service was excellent. Well decorated and restored restaurant. For a few vegetables and slices of meat the bill for 2 people for lunch which we cooked ourselves was 92 dollars!!! Not including the tip. Will not be back. Gouging pricing.

Yelp
This was our third visit to Shikku Hot Pot and other than our wonderful server, the food was very disappointing. When we inquired about why the dumplings were deep fried, our server informed us that they have a new chef. Previously the dumplings were steamed and delicious, this time hard as rocks and not tasty at all. We also ordered a pork dish that was kind of like chunks of pork, long/skinny and also deep fried with aioli sauce (really) on them. The salt and pepper calamari was ok, but about half of what we had before. The pork fried rice had big chunks of pork in it but not much rice or taste...we previously had a mushroom fried rice that was delicious. Other items around the table were not great...and the "special" bao buns with crispy orange flavored beef for $9.95 was just two flat bao buns with a very small piece of beef and other flavor enhancers...pretty pathetic. I would say we will probably go back and just have the hot pot, as the other food was unremarkable and too much fried and not clean. Maybe they should speak to the new chef and go back to the old one, where the food other than a hot pot was delicious.

Yelp
Went today and got the house broth with the rice noodles and fresh ramen, both were extraordinary. It had been my friend and I's first time here and Mel was the sweetest server ever. The vibes were really good and overall we had a great experience

Yelp
Had a fantastic time trying out Shikku this weekend with my dad. We were greeted and sat quickly. Our server was amazing and gave a run down of the experience and the menu. The food came out quickly and was delicious. I had the Szechuan Beef Tallow broth and will definitely get it again in the future. Love the aesthetic and decor. I will definitely be going again in the future.

Yelp
Yknow that scene in ratatouille where the food critic orders from Remy? He takes one bite and then he goes on a time warp back to when he was 6? THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED TO ME. I ordered some chicken broth and some noodles, and when it touched my lip, I was brought back to when I was four, and eating roast chicken that my mom had made. The actual meal itself was fantastic, brought me to satiety. Well done Patti. You made a lost soul happy. Bravo.

Yelp
Best hot pot in town! Delicious broth, quality ingredients with great service. I'll definitely come back again.

Yelp
I was excited to try this restaurant given that I liked their other restaurant Kogi. My disappointment with Shikku Hot Pot started when my mom and I entered the restaurant at 5pm and there was literally no one in the restaurant except what looked like the owner who barely looked up from her cell phone to say hello. I did not feel welcomed. When I asked for a table for 2 she immediately said that we may have to share a table ( even though the restaurant was empty ) which was not appealing to us as the tables that seated 4 were small and I didn't want to eat with strangers. When we told the owner we were not interested in sharing a table she said we could sit at the bar which was elevated and still would not offer the dining experience and privacy of our own table. My mom is in her 90s and to sit up high at the bar is not comfortable for her or for me for that matter. The owner made ZERO effort to accommodate us and she acted as though she couldn't care less whether we stayed or left. We left and went to a Thai restaurant down the street where they were actually welcoming and friendly. My advice to the owner is even if the food you offer is good having a dismissive type of attitude will not work well with a customer. There are a lot of restaurants to choose from in Plymouth and surrounding area. It will be a long time if ever before I try Shikku Hot Pot or even go back to Kogi if that is how the owner treats her customers.

Yelp
Food and service was Awesome. Great experience. Cameron was a great bartender and walked us through the whole process .

Yelp
Visited Skikku tonight after a brief hiatus. It was a quiet night, so we loved the extra attention from the owner, Patty, and bartended. We started with the salt and pepper calamari, which was perfect. Crispy, not oily, well seasoned, and served with a light sweet chili sauce. I will go back just for this appetizer! Perfectly cooked, tender calamari that was a refreshing contrast to the heavy, greasy, chewy calamari served by many Plymouth restaurants (sorry, not sorry. For dinner, on Patty's suggestion I tried a mix of two of their hot pot broths available, Thai Tom Yum and red curry with lemon grass, red chiles, and ginger. The resulting mix of broth was incredible: unctuous, rich, and with a complex flavor. Just the right balance of sweet, salty, umami, and sour. The bar tender brought over a lime wedge as a suggested touch for tartness and acid, and it took the flavor over the top! And definitely has an educated palette and made a great suggestion. I kept it simple with fresh ramen noodles and Napa cabbage, and it was a perfect warming meal for a cold winter night. I highly recommend this restaurant and the fun experience of creating your own hot pot from the a la carte menu of ingredients and options!

Yelp
Wow!! What a fantastic experience! From the atmosphere to the service and most of all the food. Authentic made from scratch broths, fresh vegetables and huge selection of meats, seafood and tofu. I highly recommend Shikku for a local restaurant that will make you feel like you're in Boston or beyond. They also have a vast selection of sake's and soju's to complete the authentic experience.

Yelp
I really enjoyed this place . The service was excellent and very helpful . We had not been here before and we needed help deciding what to order and how to cook it in the hot pot . Everyone was very nice and not obviously annoyed with our many questions and my food was delicious. I will definitely go there again .

Yelp
This weekend I tried this restaurant for the first time. I grew up having hotpot regularly since I was about seven and this experience was definitely impressive for a local place. The atmosphere was nice and so was the food. My experience was good but there is a few issues I'd like to address. I went with the tonkotsu broth and it didn't taste bad, but it did not seem to have the flavor of tonkotsu. I had club soda from the tap and it seemed to have this Smokey flavor that gave me a headache. My main issue was that the meats were freezer burnt, from pork to wagyu steak it was frozen together when it came out. I feel that this altered the flavor and texture of the meats and was a bit dissatisfying. If these issues are fixed I'd definitely say this place is a must try.

Soohee S.

Yelp
Restaurant was clean and nice but broth was too salty and greasy. Portion was just right.

Michael L.

Yelp
Went in to try some nice sake. The staff was ignoring customers to drink on the job in their "sake tasting". There way a delay in service due to this. One bartender was slurring her speech from sake.

Tom D.

Yelp
A really new and unique dining experience for the South Shore of Boston. Fresh delicious and very well directed by an attentive, friendly staff. Definitely a return destination.

Ellen A.

Yelp
Just had a delicious lunch at Shikku Hot Pot. The ambience and service are wonderful and all the food was fresh and tasty. Shikku Hot Pot is an outstanding addition to the Plymouth restaurant scene.

Joseph C.

Yelp
If everyone knew that the Chef is a vegetarian. Shikku has killer broth and killer dishes as well.

Tom S.

Yelp
This is a great new place. It's so nice to have a hot pot in Plymouth. Don't pay attention to the negative review from David. He's just a little bitÇh that only rates one star for everything.
