The 5 Best Bakeries In Annandale 2024

"Shilla is an Annandale OG. This bakery has been around since 1999, and despite the rise of new competitors, its loyal customers keep coming back for pan-Asian treats like mini bam manju, twist donuts, and green tea chiffon cakes. Every regular has their favorite pastry, and that includes us—we never leave without a mochi donut. They’re the best thing on the menu: fluffy, stuffed with sweet milk cream, and so deliciously sweet that even traffic on I-395 doesn’t seem so bad after a bite. The space itself is pretty small, so stick to takeout. You'll want a little treat after navigating the endless sea of brake lights on the way home, anyway." - omnia saed

Vacationers on the way to get on the freeway to head home and happened to drive by the store. We turned around and gave it a try. And we were so glad we did. The almond bread pudding was recommended by the helpful staff, and it was our favorite. The best pastry we had in a very long time. Paired it with a cup of coffee for a quick but delicious breakfast. When we come back to vacay in the area, we'll definitely make this a must stop.

I’m not a big sweets guy, but I do HIGHLY recommend this place. They not only have baked goods, but they have ice cream, shaved ice, and boba as well as coffee/coffee related items. I went here with my wife earlier today and man oh man was it a nice date, we sat eating our cakes and talking about how nice and neat their set up was. They have free WiFi for when you want to just snack and study, along with having NICE comfortable seating for when you stay for long visits. Truly a fantastic place, I hope you guys try it, they really do have something for everyone.

Google
I wanted to find a delicious cake for my wife’s dinner. After looking at several bakeries, I decided to visit this one to see what they had available. Every single cake was just beautiful but I on the blueberry yogurt cake. But one I got the chance to taste it, it tasted even better than it looks! I recommend this bakery for your needs! I plan on making another visit for another cake!

Had such a fun Korean food trip at Shilla Bakery yesterday! Their selection of pastries and savory dishes was delicious, and the fruit bingsu was a real highlight—refreshing, sweet, and perfect for a treat. The place has a cozy vibe, and everything we tried was fresh and flavorful. Definitely a must-visit when you're craving Korean baked goods and desserts!

A Beautiful Bakery. Lots of wonderful options for all appetites. My kids really enjoyed their macaroons. Their coconut pound cake is good. Love that they pack your selections with care. Everything in tact when we got home🙂 The bakery is immaculate clean. Staff is friendly and very nice. Bakery is a little on the pricey side. Would love to come back and try their coffee and tea. We will definitely be back.

Google
Update 2025: still the best bakery around DMV. Added new photos so people can start drooling… 🤣 I’ve been coming here for almost 25 years!!! Excellent place to get tasty breads. They always seemed to be crowded all day long, but that's actually a good thing. Some breads that I like actually get sold out by the afternoon, so I used to go in the morning just in case.

Google
My experience at this bakery was truly shocking. I ordered a strawberry cake for my birthday, expecting a fresh and delicious treat, especially considering the cake cost over $50. However, from the first bite, I could tell something was off. The outer layer tasted stale, as if it hadn’t been freshly baked that morning. But the real shock came when I reached the inner part of the cake—I was immediately hit with a strong, moldy, and utterly disgusting smell. Upon closer inspection, I discovered the source: the strawberries inside were completely spoiled. As shown in the picture (and even worse in person), they had turned a purplish hue and emitted a terrible odor. The fact that a so-called professional bakery would serve a cake in this condition is beyond unacceptable—especially at this price point. This was by far the worst experience I have ever had at a bakery. I can't understand how they thought it was okay to sell something like this, let alone charge over $50 for it. If you care about food quality and safety, stay far away from this place.

Very satisfied. They made exactly what we needed for my daughter’s birthday. Cake was so beautiful. Thank you so much Shilla bakery (Annandale)

Yelp
So many bingsoo options! Also they make their goods locally whereas the chains like tous Les jours or Paris baguette freeze the baked goods before selling it to you

Yelp
This place and I have a very bipolar relationship. When I start to like it again it pleases me, then we go through a bad break up and don't talk for months or years... I liked that they had tanghulu for a but and was coming here just to purchase them for like 3 weeks straight cause I was too lazy to make my own. When they first started making it was wonderful and the texture ratio from fruit to harden sugar was pure bliss. As they started to get known through word or mouth the product itself started to decline. Their bread? Also a slow fail as I used to be OBSESSED. what i do enjoy is that they are on trend with what social media has brought to light, but it doesn't always necessarily mean they were all great i did however love their smash dipped croissants. Yummmmy and so perfectly crispy. Now BIINGSSOOOO used to to be my favorite here along side their yogurt boba. Now? I barely even taste the tart in it. Just a smoothie full of diabetes. The bingsoos were always too much for me to eat alone and I didn't like to share that dish with others...awkward desserts to share unless you're a couple. Anywho they started offering it to you in a cup size and I was in awe...what came crashing down? I love breezes bingsoo down the street now, but their machine was dead and brought me to go to shila cause they offer mixed fruit bingsoo and I added yogurt...downfall? Their was no MOCHI in my cuo bingsoo that I paid $11 for. I just got fruit ice condensed milk and yogurt... the mochi is always like a hidden treasure, I had NONE. The yogurt was off tasting again no yogurt or tartness taste to it... This may be an end of an era for me with them. Sigh...

Yelp
I absolutely cannot stand this Korean bakery chain - besides being owned by gross, shady, and extremely questionable individuals, their offerings are not fresh nor worth a visit. Some of their breads are laid out in the open, and, not because they're cooling off, but maybe to showcase how they look? The pathway around the bakery items is narrow, so people hover and brush against these items, ending up being purchased by oblivious patrons. All their beverages, especially their smoothies, are to be avoided - not sure if they use some type of a powder or something, but they're always watered down and taste like a combination of being artificial and burnt ice. The staff are also awful - they are rude, dismissive, and seem to be miserable, as they just project negativity onto anyone who comes in, trying their best to give you a bad day. In addition, don't think about trying to enjoy your purchase(s) inside, as their seating area is never wiped down nor tended to. There are much better bakeries in the area - don't fall for them! +awful staff +unhygienic +pastries are not fresh +rude service

Yelp
This place used to be pretty descent, but how terrible the taste and quality got is disrespectful. I am a fat boy and I know good quality from bad and this is just on a different level. Not that it's a big deal but presence of no Koreans in this establishment should've been a give away. I got the cheese tart and 찹쌀 donut. You can taste immediately the oil they use is extremely old and you can taste it in your first bite. Is it new ownership? You can tell the don't swap out or donate their product if it's not sold how a real Korean bakery is supposed to. I am worried as I am writing this my stomach will turn. Change your oil or sell your establishment. That's just greed selling crappy product to your customers. I will never ever come back to this establishment. I am sure people are going to get sick. Change your damn oil and swap out old products. If you don't believe me buy the exact same product from tous Le jous difference is night and day. I got the walnut pastry for my parents if it's baked in same oil it's all going to trash. Haven't been this upset in a while. Shame on you guys. Disgraceful.

Yelp
Shila Bakery is a long-standing Korean bakery in Virginia that sells various tasty baked goods. I visited the bakery today for coffee and dessert after lunch and noticed some renovations underway. However, the different styles used in the refurbishment didn't create a unified theme, and better organization was needed for a cohesive look. Additionally, I found that the seating area needed to be cleaned, as our table was sticky, and there were breadcrumbs on the seats and floor. The bakery serves illy coffee, and while my latte was good, the iced caramel latte was too sweet for my taste. The service was okay. Shila Bakery offers a wide selection of popular pastries, including croffle, crookie, cookies, cakes, tarts, castella rolls, donuts, cake pops, macarons, and more.

Yelp
Very nice Korean Bakery that serves unique and creative desserts, teas, coffee, and bubble tea concoctions. I tried the croissant-cookie and it was soooooo good. Absolutely addictive. Each time I go, I try new sweet breads, rolls, and other treats. I usually pick up a few items for the weekend. The atmosphere is welcoming, wide open and not cluttered. Plenty of tables to sit, eat, meet with friends, study, relax. Highly recommend.

Yelp
First of all their selection is huge. They have several individually wrapped items for sale from breads to croissants to brownies. They also sell coffee, ice cream and full size cakes. We decided to try things from their bakery case, which seemed to be the wrong thing to do. We ordered an Oreo monster, strawberry cake slice and a mocha cake slice. All the cakes look delicious and are presented nicely, but the taste was not good. Oreo monster tasted stale with only the cookie crumbs on the outside giving a slight Oreo flavor. The mocha cake also tasted very plain. The strawberry was probably the best out of the 3, but still only ok. After we bought our stuff we noticed most people buying their pre packaged items, so if we come back it might be best to do that.

Yelp
This is the first of 4 reviews for the Korean bakeries in the Annandale area: Shilla, Breeze, Manoa, and Tous Les Jours bakeries. Each has its strengths and weaknesses in food taste, food texture, ambiance, service, and value. I'll be listing them. Started in 1999, there are 5 locations: Ellicott City, Annandale, Centerville, Chantilly, and McLean. The Annandale store was the first. So, my wife and I went there to see where they started. We walked in and started looking at items on the shelves. We picked some items, and we looked at items in the glass display cases. An employee came to help. Nothing in the cases interested us, so we walked to the end of the displays where the cash register was located and paid. We visited twice and tried 6 items in total. 1) Cinnamon Twist Doughnut      It was soft with a texture between cake and bread. It tasted similar to Hawaiian bread. It had a sugar and cinnamon coating that was very light on cinnamon. A stronger cinnamon flavor would make this great. 2) Red Bean Bread      A bun with lots of red bean filling. Mildly sweet with moderate red bean flavor. The bread tasted exactly the same as the one in Chinese baked pork bun. It was soft with a hint of sweetness and a nice toasted flavor. Nicely made with great flavor. It's one of the best that I've tasted. 3) Shilla Chicken Panini      It had chicken, cheddar cheese, baby spinach, basil, and boiled red peppers in flatbread. It came with a side of chips. The chips were Miss Vickie's sea salt kettle chips. They were crispy and not too salty. The chicken filet was tender and moist. The cheese was sharp cheddar and the greens were fresh. The bread wasn't crispy and lacked a buttered toasted flavor that is found in pressed panini. The red peppers were very overcooked. This was a decent sandwich that needed condiments. 4) White Bean Bread     Soft with a flavor like a white roll. The white bean paste was mild in sweetness and bean flavor. It was edible and forgettable. 5) Shilla Lemon Sheet Cake      It was a 2 layer yellow cake with lemon frosting on top and between the layers. The cake was mildly sweet with a hint of vanilla. It was soft and moist. The frosting was sweet, citrusy, and very zesty. Way too much lemon zest! The flavor was sharp with a touch of bitterness. If they tamp down on the zest, it's a winner. There were slices of real lemons on top. This cake didn't need more lemon juice!! 6) Cream Cheese Pound Cake      It was moist, soft, and sweet with a light vanilla flavor. No cream cheese or butter flavor. It's called pound cake because a pound of butter is used with a pound of flour, eggs, and sugar to make the cakes. In other words, equal parts of each. The butter flavor should be prominent. The traditional recipe was rich and incredibly moist. Today, places like this take cost cutting steps. So, their cake wasn't as rich, dense, or moist as a traditional pound cake. It was okay tasting, but the missing flavors don't encourage me to buy their cakes. The service was polite and quick. The dining room and restrooms were clean. The store had modern decor with an emphasis on wood. They're more than a bakery. They sell breakfast food, panini, sandwiches, salads, wraps, ice cream, bingsoo, boba tea, tea, and coffee drinks. Coffee fixings are limited to sugar, Splenda, Equal, half & half, and a flavored creamer. Nothing else. The store is stand-alone in a small shopping center with a free parking lot. They are located across the road from Tous les Jours, another Korean bakery. So, there's another nearby choice for Asian pastries. The prices are higher here for most items, so this is not the place for good value. Although most of the items we got were disappointing, we'd be willing to come back to try other things.

Yelp
Shilla's has great drinks and pastries, along with bakery and lunch items as well. I would personally recommend the pastries, coffee, and boba over the lunch items and other bakery items. My personal favorites are the affogato, which is very smooth and creamy, the milk bbang, a sweet pastry, and any of the bobas, which have lots of flavor compared to other nearby cafés.

Yelp
Before I go on with this review, let me be clear. I have been going here for years and the food is delicious and it has never disappointed me. But a recent experience has disappointed me. I've been trying to order a cake last week for a birthday girl who is in love with the strawberry shortcake, and I've been told on several occasions to call at certain times but due to my hectic schedule, it's been difficult. Thursday I tried explaining this to the employees there and asked if they could write down the order and pass it along to the baker if they caught them. I doubled check: can I place the order of the phone? They said yes. Can I pay the day of pick up which was this past Saturday? They said that was fine. I doubled checked before placing the order. The gentleman took my order, repeated my order and my name and number. The day of getting the cake, they said they had no order no cake for me and I was distraught. I did explain to the birthday girl the situation who was upset, but tried being reasonable. We chose a different cake, which was vanilla buttercream and took it to the party. Appearance it looked delicious but it wasn't to her liking. I paid full price for the cake, they did not apologize for the miscommunication or offered any type of discount. I understand that these things do happen, but they have to have better attention to these things. Please have better communication with customers and staff with future orders because this stuff is important for future customers who want to try your cakes and other pastries.

Yelp
My granddaughter asked for a mango cake for her birthday. I had no idea where to get one. I checked my local bakery and they no longer make mango cakes, so I did an online search and found Shilla, which is 35 miles away from me, and I placed an online order because that is what baby girl wanted. Although the reviews were decent, I had no idea what to expect. When I pulled up to the bakery on Saturday morning, the smell of fresh bread greeted me in the parking lot, but I was skeptical because it wasn't crowded. Once I entered and saw the vast array of fresh breads, other products, and the staff working in the kitchen, I was impressed. The cake was just as pretty as the one online. My granddaughter was so excited to see her cake and was pleased with how it looked. The Mango Cream Cake exceeded our expectations. It was light, the mango flavor was not overpowering, the fruit was tasty, and the cream icing was perfect, not super sweet like buttercream. The bonus surprise was they included candles and a plastic cake knife. Shilla has a new customer in me.

Yelp
whatever you do do not order a cake over the phone with this bakery because they do not listen to you whatever you said they believe their own thing and they will do whatever they want to do and they still would take your money and don't give your refund even though it's completely their fault especially for the baker and the decorator I previously ordered birthday cake and I pacifically asked for a red velvet. The lady said we don't have red velvet. Is there something else would you prefer and I said do you have vanilla cake? I would like a vanilla birthday cake a confirm my order and everything once I get my birthday cake I only cut a slice of it and I tasted. I got a reaction. I there was peach apple grapes, end the cake. I am so disappointed. I really wish the lady listened to what I ordered. She really didn't listen and I pay 150 bucks for this order of cake still sitting on my fridge. y'all need better customer service.

Yelp
Though we miss the days of all the yummy free samples gracing the shelves at Shilla, it is still a family favorite.  We enjoy the slices of roll cakes, especially the mango as well as the Nutella donuts.  All the castellas are tasty and nothing is more adorable than their animal cakes.  Another treat we enjoy is the green tea ice cream with frosted flakes.  Don't knock it till you try it.  The sweet crunchy addition is great.  Shilla has comfortable seating and plenty of parking, especially behind the store.

Yelp
I have concerns about the safety of the food after my last two visits. The last time I went I got a croquette and the dough was sooooo raw still. I had to throw it out. I also got the mochi donut holes with different glazes which was good, so I got it on my latest trip which was today. They were ALL so raw in the middle (I got five). I could not eat them and again had to throw them away. I also got a piece of melon sponge cake and it tasted nothing like melon making me wonder if they maybe forgot the melon flavoring even.

Yelp
Recommended to me by a friend for a family member's birthday. I've not a big fan of cakes.....more of a savory person. But everyone needs a birthday cake! It was easy for me to order online and the cake was light and fluffy yet flavorful. These cakes are known for their their light and airy taste without being overly sweet and rich.

Zeni B.

Yelp
Their mango bingsu was so delicious. I would definitely recommend that anyone who goes to Shilla Bakery has to try it. They have fun games to play while you come as well!

Yelp
such cozy vibes! i was surprised to see that they had dalgona cookies. it's a very small cafe, but they have good-sized tables for groups to sit. they open till 9, so it's not a bad place for dessert or 2cha
google avatar

Jung Soo L.

Yelp
They put crack in them bread. Great place to go and sit down to enjoy baked goods, coffee, tea, and bingsu! The large windows and open space with ample space is quite welcoming, and the smell will keep you wanting to buy more!! The staff is always nice and quick, so also be ready to be nice and quick yourself

Yelp
I have bought many times at shilla and this is the first time I encountered this situation, most of the sponge cakes were moldy, had a tiny black layer and moldy hairs covering the outside???? and it smells like sour, not the scent of cake?? Extremely horrible experience??
google avatar

Yelp
Generally, I love coming here for dessert, but that also have decent food. Ambiance: (3/5) I think it has a decent layout but it gets pretty cramped pretty quick and it's very loud. Price: (4/5) Price is really good. You can find fresh bread with cream inside for about $3. Food: (5/5) Everything is so good. Not overly sweet. The cream inside the breads is very fluffy and whipped. The mango bubble tea is really like a mango slushy. The mango ice cream tastes like mango kulfi which is a south Asian ice cream. The Korean iced coffee is pretty strong and keeps me up for a while so I will only drink it once in a while. I want to try more of the breakfast food they have. Service: (5/5) Service is really fast and they move the line effectively. In conclusion, I have come several times, but I still want to come back!

Yelp
I'm actually kind of surprised by the low reviews. It's a bakery that sells popular Korean pastries and from other Asian counties. What's not to love? I bought like three croissants with egg, cheese, and ham for breakfast. I also bought macaroons, some Japanese fish like pastries filled with custard cream, and what seems to be a chocolate Swiss roll. I ate everything like in 2 days. It was super busy like very very busy. There are so many options and even more options at the registers. There are a few tables, but I guess there are not enough, if it is extremely busy. I did like the bakery, 4 stars.
google avatar

Yelp
My gf and I have consistently come here as regulars, and this bakery has what others don't. There's a much more calm and relaxed environment here, and they're never short of some of the best cakes and treats in the area. I always get the black milk latte, it is my version of heaven on earth, and no other bakery makes these. My gf loves the bright and spicy ginger tea, and it's always made perfectly here. They get busy, and with good reason, the quality of their baked goods is consistent and delicious. The mocha cookies, the croissants and the yummy cakes will have you coming back for more
google avatar

Yelp
Great bakery! Had everything I was looking for and more! Very tasty collection! Those half waffles were amazing! Wish I bought more for my road trip back to Chesapeake!
google avatar

Yelp
the pastries looked so fresh but i got the green tea bingsu and it was pretty good! it came out very fast and this is a cute place to study and hang out with friends
google avatar

Ryan N.

Yelp
A friend called this place and made an order over the phone for a strawberry shortcake for my girlfriends birthday. When they arrived they said there was no order in the system and there were no more strawberry shortcakes available. My friend had to choose a different cake. She chose the vanilla buttercream cake, which was WORST CAKE IVE EVER had. It tastes and feels like you're eating a stick of butter. No one at the party took more than a few bites and the consensus was that it was awful. Would have been better throwing 40 dollars in the trash than wasting both time and gas picking that disgusting cake up.

Jessica L.

Yelp
Service was bad and drink is not as expected. They are busy doing their own stuff. Their food and drink suck.
google avatar

Susan J.

Yelp
The lights here are like hospital lights....this completely ruins the ambiance here. My sister is literally complaining next to me saying the bread is dry and is in need of sunglasses. I wish management paid attention to the details here.
google avatar

P.J S.

Yelp
If you are craving for bingsoo (shaved ice), this is not the place for you. For 13 bucks, you get a pile of shaved ice with squirts of gooey neon pink syrup thing on the top with several frozen strawberry slices buried at the bottom with a scoop of subpar strawberry ice cream.
google avatar

Gail J.

Yelp
It was our first time going after hearing all the rave about it, it was definitely worth the trip and time! Everyone was friendly and they had so many bakery items to choose from!
google avatar

Ailun H.

Yelp
Came here after dinner with some friends to stock up on pastries. Sadly, there weren't much variety available since we came during closing time, which was understandable. I just got some fish bread, which was super delicious. I would give this place at least a 4/5, but the cashier was kind of rude to me when I asked her a question about the pricing, so I am docking another point off. This place seems to have a wide variety of Castella cakes during the day, so I'm down to come back to check it out another time!
google avatar

Sheryl V.

Yelp
Story time: I called the morning of and asking about their cakes and the lady on the phone told me they "bake their cakes fresh daily". So I happily went in to purchase a fruit cream cake that my sister requested. We ate dinner and opened the cake and to our surprise the fruit was MOLDED and smelled really bad. We cut into the cake and the fruit in the middle also had gone bad. This was such a disappointment pretty much ruined the end of the birthday dinner. ** So WARNING to ALL inspect your cakes before they box it up to save yourself any disappointment!**
google avatar

MaraLee L.

Yelp
What a great discovery! My coworker and I stopped by after dinner, and I'm glad we did. All the fresh, delicious sounding choices! We definitely had to try to hold ourselves back from buying everything. I ended up with a Honeydew Roll, Butter Rolls, and a Crowaffle (Croissant Waffle). The cashier also threw in a yummy extra treat as well, which was so awesome! I'm glad I found this location on Yelp so I could add my review and mark it for a return trip! Try some other fun items!

Yelp
I love this bakery. They make delicious baked goods. I usually buy their roll cakes, anything with corn or melon, bubble teas, and donuts. I've never been disappointed with them. They also make dalgona, those candies you see in the Netflix show "Squid Games". I've ordered a few of them for myself and friends. Those were okay. The only things I didn't like were one of their cartoon-ish cakes and their service a few of the times I went. The cake's icing did not taste good to me. It had a weird taste I'm not used to. It's not typical icing/fondant. The service is usually decent, but I can count on one hand the number of times the customer service could have been warmer. Regardless, their food is what keeps me coming back. They're one of my favorite bakeries in this area.
google avatar

Michelle E.

Yelp
I always go back to this Korean Bakery I love their pastry! It's fluffy creamy and just right sweetness!
google avatar

Deb W.

Yelp
Very busy pastry shop and rightfully so consider their wide assortment of treats! If you want anything sweet, this is definitely your spot! I choose the feta egg white spinach wrap and though I was disappointed, I wouldn't rule them completely out. There was a sauce on it I wasn't expecting and their were a few pieces of egg shells in the sandwich. Things happen!! But I tried the strawberry boba tea which to my surprise was frozen. It was delicious nonetheless! I went on a Saturday and it seems like that is a very busy day. Service moves pretty quickly! Check It out for yourself!!!
google avatar

Michael N.

Yelp
The pastries are good with a variety even though the selection is a bit small. The prices are average compared to other bakeries. Sometimes, the place is very limited towards the night. I'm not sure if it's because everyone buys everything earlier in the day or because they do not make enough. The place is cozy, great cafe to homework for that atmosphere. It gets pretty crowded or near crowded towards the night, so I would recommend to take out. I noticed that most of the cashiers seemed annoyed with customers. They look like they just want to get the transaction over with and never see the customer again. No greeting or happy face, usually they just say the total. I would still come here for the food, but not the service.

Yelp
Thanks to shilla bakery for holding some dalgona cookies for me Christmas eve. I had ordered them from someone else and they cancelled on me last minute. They were for stocking stuffers and had planned for a family dalgona cookie challenge on Christmas.

Yelp
Food is delicious! Best Boba tea around, hands down! Variety can depend on time of day, but options are so tasty.

Yelp
Quality has gone down here. Got the red bean bubble tea and bing soo. The tapioca in the bubble tea was still stiff (should be soft to chew) and the red bean didn't taste high quality. The bing soo is good though, presentation could really help.

Yelp
Enjoyed the service and environment but prefer the other shilla bakeries in the area. The one in Tyson's has a little bit better selection and the food seems fresher. This may just be due to the amount of people that stop by. Still enjoyed most of the rolls I bought here.

Yelp
A small bakery in a small mall with very limited parking spots. Inside the shop there is no cute decoration like Breeze Cafe up the road (much nicer much cuter, much more welcoming). Chaos inside. Crowded and mostly empty shelves (breads are out). The cashier had an attitude. Poker face. Not friendly at all. Some cute cakes too but Breeze has more!

Yelp
Continues to take both cash and credit card. Tons of free parking in the shopping center. Tons of bakery items when compared to their other location in Rockville MD. We came here and ordered their bingsoo. Specifically their green tea bingsoo. The toppings and ice cream were delicious. However, their crushed ice was a bit chunky. Wished it was more of a powdery form similar to snow consistency. We do appreciate that they offer samples of certain pastries so it gives you a good idea what you can expect when you make your purchase. The interior of the shop needs to be cleaned as I noticed certain tables with used cups / bowls on the table after customers leave. Otherwise, this place is a great spot for social gatherings and offers tons of bakery items including cakes.

Yelp
My friends surprised me for my birthday with a Tiramisu cake and a pig cake. It was delivered by uber eats. The boxes come with candles and a plastic cutting knife. The tiramisu cake was delicious it did have a little overpowering coffee taste to it, but it was good. The pig cake was moist and had strawberries filling that I really enjoyed. Overall I liked both of the cakes.

Yelp
In an Instagram era where custom birthday cakes can cost an arm and a leg for a small round... Shilla still offers fun and creative designs for a very affordable price point. Even better? They taste as good as they look! Their cakes are light and fluffy with a subtle sweetness made from real buttercream! No weird fondant layers or Sahara like cake denseness to deal with at all, just pure deliciousness. Shilla Bakery has been a family favorite for years! And they are an old standby because they put up with our family trait of procrastination. They did a beautiful mocha buttercream cake for my sister's wedding....we've celebrated countless birthdays with their fruit filled sponge cakes...and for my daughter's second birthday I walked right in and purchased three of the most adorable animal cakes that made everyone squeal with delight. Each cake was no less than $30, a steal considering I purchased a tiny one person cake from a fancy DC bakeshop for a little less than that the day before (we are a cake loving family what can I say!). And as a bonus, I got to walk around the store sampling all of the amazing freshly baked breads while I was waiting for the super lovely store people to box up my order.

Yelp
Great Korean bakery up in Northern Virginia. So many options to choose from. From cakes to coffee, they have it all. Beautiful interior as well. Always stop by whenever I am in the area. Wonderful service every time!

Yelp
Everything here was so good: blueberry pound cake - $5.95 moist, huge, delicious chocolate pound cake - $4.95 somewhat dry once it was open from the plastic wrap cup bingsoo - $6.95 strawberry banana, very good, generous toppings but there were some lumpy breaded stuff inside/not sure what they were, didn't like the pink syrup on top, ice was soft

Yelp
Fantastic bakery! I wish we had one in Annapolis!! You walk in and immediately are greeted by the smell of fresh bread. And you are surrounded by it too. You can grab a basket or tray and fill it up to your heart' content with all the treats that were available. There was sweet and savory. Cakes and flatbreads and rolls. All kind of stuff. It is a Korean Bakery and the cakes come in flavors such a Mango, Melon, Chocolate, and Strawberry. Just delicious. We sat in and enjoyed a coffee. I had a latte made with almond milk and vanilla and it was perfect with my rainbow roll cake. There are a few tables to sit in so it was cozy and perfect. I also tried a spinach croissant that was really good too. The decor is cozy. The wall are adorned with beautiful paintings and frescos of coffee and cute characters. Even the restroom has a playful sense. In the women's room there was a panda staring back at me from a cup of coffee. Just super cute. Very clean and very polite. Everyone working there was nice and answered our questions. I would love to return to try more things.

Yelp
Annandale's crowded with Korean American bakeries-cafes (Breeze, Manoa, and (formerly) Tous les jours. Shilla performs strongly on taste, and less on ambience and service. Taste: Delicious fresh cream cakes, with plenty ready-made on display, as well as made by appointment time. Single cakes like the raspberry mousse cake and the panna cotta are wonderfully delicious and perfect in their level of creaminess & sweetness Ambience: Mediocre older looking decor, needs a renovation Service: Poor service - on multiple occasions, the same 2 front employees were unpleasant and cold. In the weekdays - afternoon/evening time of Oct 2018

Yelp
I have a soft spot for shilla. It's the first Korean bakery I grew to love in the area and I've spent many late evenings here catching up with friends over lattes and bingsoo. Covid has definitely taken that little part away, what used to be a very popular place to hang out is now mostly empty with a few chairs left just to wait for food that may take a few minutes. For now they are still offering most of the same options to go. They also do not offer as many samples of product (understandably). My favorite thing here used to be the blueberry bingsoo. Definitely not the same when taking it home, so lately I've stuck to bakery items to pick up and binge on when I'm sitting safe at home: red bean filled buns, castella (a soft pound cake similar to Filipino manon), and I love the pretzel wrapped hot dogs as a snack!
