Google
Super cute bakery with yummy pastries and cookies. There is a wide selection of coffee, tea, and boba. There also seems to be some warm breakfast sandwiches. I ended up buying 2 sugar donut twists and an earl grey tea. The donut twists were amazing! Wonderfully fluffy and covered in coarse sugar. The earl grey was decent but I like that a 16 oz was their medium. Definitely check out this cafe. It was clean and cute with good food.

This is a very cozy bakery and cafe located in Koreatown (Rt.40 West) in Ellicott City. It could be easy to miss so look for the Victoria Plaza sign. I went specifically for one of their cream cakes. The bakery also carries a wide selection both sweet vs savory items not seen in typical local bakeries. The displays are well laid out. You grab a basket and select items that are neatly wrapped. Cream filled pastries are smooth in texture and I did not find them overly sweet. There were flavors such as strawberry, mocha, Nutella or white cream to name a few. My favorite is their red bean filled doughnut. I wished I lived closer but maybe it’s a good idea I didn’t. The birthday cake I went for was a Chocolate Cream…the cake had 3 layers of a light chiffon with buttercream frosting and did not taste overly sweet. They were able to place a Happy Birthday greeting on the spot and packed it in a beautiful box to easily carry home.

Google
We tried their cakes and bingsoo. All were very good. Their coffee was good, but not the best. Their staff were very nice. They played easy listening music that made us feel relaxed. - We visited this place again a few more times and enjoyed their mango bingsoo. It was delicious.

Amazing bakery I still think about it every day and also very beautiful atmosphere and nice workers the boba is to die for it’s so delicious!

Google
Such a cute little spot!! I enjoy coming here both by myself and with my friend. The food and drinks are nice, but if you get the hot dog pizza, please warm it up at home, it's not good cold. Keep in mind though that you need to make a $5 minimum purchase if you wanna use a card!

Called the day of for a birthday cake. The staff, over the phone, and in person during pickup were very kind. The cake was beautiful and delicious! They also provided a few candles that we did end up using. The tips of the candles were wrapped in foil and we though that was so clever. I will definitely be ordering again.

Google
Very cute! The atmosphere is warm and welcoming. They have dishes a normal bakery usually doesn't. They have handmade ice cream, which they build on with coffee to make a special treat -- just for you! Yes, YOU! They make cute cakes that look like cartoon animals. The coffee drinks are so smooth! The staff wasn't chatty with me but your experience may very be different. I visited late, closer to closing time. They keep the place clean and respectful. In return do be respectful and don't bring outside food/drinks when you visit. There's plenty of free parking in the shared parking lot.

Google
Stopped by after driving by many times! I got a few treats and they were all amazing. I was greeted as soon as I walked in, and I took a look around before picking what I wanted and checking out. Staff are kind, the bakery is so cute, everything is delicious. The cakes look amazing!

Yelp
- drinks were yum - service was good - love the chill jazz music playing in the background and the working AC on this hot ass day

Yelp
Good food and excellent coffee. Shilla Bakery & Cafe is a Korean style bakery with Asian baked good prepared fresh every morning. Rows of sweet and savory pastries are ready for you to dine in with a reheat or take out for your convenience. Some items like bread loaves or bundles of sweets are pre-packaged for grab-and-go convenience. While most of the foodstuffs at Shilla fall under the sweet side, you must try their croquettes, meat and veggies wrapped in potatoes and deep fried to crispy perfection. It's delicious and heavy, requiring a coffee after to keep you awake. Shilla also offers shaved ice and cakes for those wanting cooler sweets. Shilla's best when it comes to their coffee. Whether you're going for a sweet mixed drink or straight black, Shilla's coffee is strong and smooth, sure to jolt you awake during the early morning or afternoon slump. Their coffee goes great on its own or accompanied by one of their pastries. They used to have a seasonal durian coffee. I don't know if it will return, but if it does, be sure to pick up this unique tasting, but extremely satisfying beverage. Shilla's staff has always been as sweet as their desserts and patient when dealing with children or indecisive patrons. The shop itself is brightly lit with cheery decor and makes you feel invited to share a drink with a friend. Shilla Bakery is my go-to for Korean style coffee in Ellicott City.

Yelp
Got a birthday cake here and it was delicious. Definitely a little sweeter than typical Korean cakes but it may be because it's a butter cake. They also personalize the cake for you.

Yelp
This is one of our go to bakeries , they have locations throughout the DMV area. It is a chain Korean own coffee and pastry shop. Service is efficient. There are daily fresh bread, discounted not the same day pastries, cute and delicious cakes, coffees, and Almond flour cake. Inside is always tidy, nice and spacious. On site restrooms. Parking right out front, easy access. It's a from @winedinenvacay

Yelp
Shilla Bakery is located in Victoria Plaza on Route 40 in Ellicott City. It is in a very unassuming shopping plaza and depending on how fast you're driving, you might miss it altogether. Thankfully, the script signage caught my attention! This bakery is located in Koreatown and features not only sweet and savory options, but a display of packaged cookies that was destined for a purchase. The colors and textures look delightful and thankfully everything is prepackaged which makes filling your basket easy work. There are many sandwhiches and other bread options for lunch available. The decorated cakes in the cold case are visually stunning and so perfect, they don't look real! There is something for everyone from an elegant cake topped with fruit to a animal creation perfect for a children's party. They also offer hot and cold beverages, including several coffee and tea options. There is ample parking in front of the bakery, as well as plentiful seating the two mornings we stopped by. We left with far too many baked goods and plan to return again. : )

Yelp
Stopped in for something sweet to bring to a church event. This is more like a coffee and tea shop. There were lots of individually wrapped pastries--both sweet and savory. Which is nice of you wanna grab something to eat with your beverage and take a seat. And in the case were cute cakes, many of which were in an egg shape and made to look like cartoon characters or mascots. There were also jelly or cream rolls of different flavors. I opted for the green tea roll. The rolls were a bit pricey IMO. And although the place was pretty clean, the doors and windows had too many prints. But the guys behind the counter were quite friendly! They sell boba tea, coffee and other drinks. And there were folks inside chilling in seats and using their tech devices.

Yelp
Has been and will always be a classic spot for me. Got the dirty chai and some pastries and they were yummy!

Yelp
If you, like me, were intrigued by the article about the four Korean bakeries in Ellicott City, read on. I decided to visit them to see what all the fuss was about. Bear in mind that I am not a lover of baked goods, so it takes a lot to impress me! My first stop was at Tous Les Jours (which I have reviewed separately), and from there it was a quick u-turn to get to Shilla Bakery just across the road. Shilla's display is a bit more modest that Tous Les Jours, but I homed in on one particular section that had a wealth of variety to choose from: the home-made cookies. Each is flavor is separately wrapped in an attractive cellophane bag, and I was tempted by so many of them that I wished there was a variety pack. After much dithering, I finally settled on the Earl Grey bergamot-scented flavor. I am happy with the choice - they are light, not too sweet, and both of these qualities means that I eat way too many of them in one sitting. I am also thinking they would make special inexpensive gifts - for example as party favors or stocking stuffers. Luckily I have plenty of time before the holiday season to go back and sample the rest!

Yelp
3.19.23 Good selection of pastries I like including bean buns, sweet rice red bean donuts, and croissants, however, cake slice flavors are limited. They didn't have any flavors I was really interested in. I settled for the mango mousse. I also purchased a slice of the fresh cream cake for my hubby and the red bean donut and bun for myself. The mango mousse flavor and texture was not for me, but I ate it as I was raised not to waste food, but I didn't particularly enjoy it. My pastries were good and my hubby's cake was good. I would just return for their packaged pastries. Few things to note: -They are closed on Tuesdays. -Located in Victoria Plaza. -$5 minimum purchase for credit cards, $10 for Amex and & Discover.

Yelp
I love this bakery! Their caked and pastries are absolutely delicious. I love their drinks too. The staff is very nice and they make good recommendations. I think the prices are comparable too and it is one of my favorite coffee shops to go to. The parking lot is convenient.

Yelp
I spent a morning working from Shilla and enjoying tea and treats throughout the few hours I was there. Everyone was very welcoming and friendly. I got myself a sweet bun to enjoy with my tea -- thinking I'd snack on it throughout the morning... it was too tasty, and gone quickly! The cookies were amazing! I got the chocolate chip cookies (so soft and tasty) and a bag of the Earl Grey cookies (wow - they really taste like EG!) I shared both flavors with friends and they were a hit!
google avatar

Yelp
It's a nice little cafe with decent bread selection. Bread isn't amazing but is pretty good. Would probably stop by for some dessert if you're in the mall, but wouldn't necessarily make a trip just for their bread. We also had their nambi bingsoo - really underwhelming. Granted, they give you a LOT of ice cream and fruits for $15 but not really what I expected (shaved ice with red beans). More like an Oreo sprinkled Ice cream (you get 3 big scoops of ice cream) with fruits. Service is fine, the place was pretty empty with lots of empty seats available on a Saturday afternoon.

Yelp
I stopped here to kill a little time and decided to get a pastry to take home. I wanted to try something I haven't had before and came across the Mammoth (not sure this was the name). One thing I noticed about this place is they don't label the ingredients or give a good description. You can see on the bag a list of ingredients, but it doesn't give you an idea of what it really is, which is in my other photo. Besides that, the Mammoth is a giant bread cookie. It's filled with layers of sweet bean and cream. It is about six portions for about $6. The bread part was a little on the dry side, but it was good. They sell a variety of cakes, pastry, breads, cookies, drinks. I don't think I'd get anything else here because I prefer another bakery.

Yelp
I gave such a low rating because they charged me for a small Thai Tea Latte and the small cup I received was half full. I've never gone to a coffee shop that didn't fill the cup up. Even crappy Starbucks ensures the latte cup is full to the top. Very disappointed. Even the lady before me that got a regular small coffee (same size cup as mine) had a cup filled to the top. She even asked to pour some off to be able to add cream and such. I feel gypped. Next time I'll check my cup before I leave. Thai Tea Latte - hot The flavors was very good, they steamed the milk well. Still very upset about the cup only being half full for what I paid for. Cheese Castella Very moist, soft and delicious. It was airy and not overly sweet, well done. Kukwha Bread - White bean paste The bread was very soft and fresh. The bean paste was good, a tad too sweet.

Yelp
I'll never respect a business that closes before closing time. Wasted driving here for 30 minutes thankfully arrived at 8:55. Shut off the open sign as I'm about to get out of the car and they shut off the lights lol. Should have gone to tour Les jour what was I thinking.

Yelp
We didn't go to one but two bakeries on this particular day. This one wasn't as trendy as the other one but has a more traditional selection. Our favorites were mochi, chocolate chip cookies and red velvet cookies.
google avatar

James C.

Yelp
Not impressed with their bakery products, they are mostly focused on drinks and coffee. They need to rename their business, Shilla Snacks & Cafe.

Yelp
Loved the lemon mascarpone! Service and ambiance was good. Slight confusion with the shaved ice. It's not the same as the American one but was definitely yummy. Overall great experience.

Yelp
Shilla bakery is a nice place to grab a bite to eat with a friend. It has a cute environment with a large variety of baked goods to choose from. I have tried about 15 different items and all of them were decent. Although the taste of the items is not always my favorite, I will continue to come back here as I love the variety that they offer. It is a very unique shop and I love trying new things. Recently, I have tried the rainbow loaf roll and the cinnamon stick donuts. The cinnamon stick donuts have been my favorite item I have tried from here. Adding on to this, one thing that makes it a bit difficult to chose what to get is a lack of description for products in the bakery. The only description given in the bakery is the name of the item, which can make it difficult to know what you want. One item off of their actual menu that I have tried is the red bean shaved ice. It was very different from anything I have ever tried but overall not bad.

Yelp
Everytime i go to Maryland, i always visit Shilla bakery. They have good selections of bakery for reasonable price. The treat has a good amount of sweetness. However, the last couple times that i was here, they didn't have as many selections as they used to. Even though the food still taste as good, i just wish they have more variations.

Yelp
Many different kinds of buns, cookies, and other baked goods! Perfect for snacks or for breakfast the next day.

Yelp
This place is really cute. I came here in the evening, so the pastries were not fresh. We got a little of everything and was very underwhelmed by most of the options. The cookies were my favorite part. We got an iced latte and that was very good. I would like to point out to the owners that none of their teas are very good. The boba was undercooked and crunchy, the Thai bubble tea was sooo sweet. After one sip of the Thai bubble tea I asked the staff if I could get a strawberry bubble tea instead without the boba, since the boba was hard and the tea was so sweet. They instead strained the boba out and gave me back the Thai tea. Also the hot citron and honey plum was so sweet and tasted like medicine. Most bubble tea places ask for sugar level, this place does not do that. I am disappointed because I have been looking forward to visiting this place for a long time and spent a lot of money for items I had to just throw away.

Yelp
Cute Asian bakery serving up absolutely delicious baked goods and great coffee. I came for mooncakes which they didnt have but I grabbed a few cream rolls, red bean buns and twisty donuts that were soooo good.
google avatar

Yelp
Cute and fun to sit around and hang with friends/family. I like getting their bingsoo and their breads aren't as comparable to their better locations, but it's still solid.

Carter A.

Yelp
Very cozy bakery and coffee shop. Amazing pastries and sandwiches. Always clean and staff is very friendly.

Shelley R.

Yelp
The bing soo was really bad. I asked the cashier prior to ordering about it, and they were not clear. Flavors were not there, portions were small, and they skimped on very important ingredients that always come in a bing soo! Wish I could get my $12 back :-/ Also, I asked for the toppings that are supposed to come with it, and I got a couple eye rolls.

Yelp
There are so many hidden gems in Ellicott City along the Pike and this is one of them. Located in a strip plaza off route 40, we stumbled across this sweet spot and I'm glad we did. Order: Chocolate Chip Cookie - Soft and delicious giant cookie. It was a perfect classic chocolate chip cookie. Corn Mill Cookies - These were soft and somewhat melted in your mouth. Cream Roll - Fluffy soft roll with a lite cream filling. You can taste the freshness of the roll. (not pictured). Be sure to leave outside food or drinks in your car if you decide to check out this spot. You won't need it because they have a selection of drinks, teas and shaved ice with fruit and ice cream I'd like to try. A honeydew roll caught my eye - I'll have to go back to try it. Good service

Yelp
I've been wanting to try this place for a long long time. We go to Sweet Hut when we are in Atlanta and love it. So we decided to try this finally and now I wish we came here sooner. It is quiet and quaint. The pastries and buns were good. Selection is small compared to Sweet Hut but the products are as tasty. The cheese but reminds me of the Brazilian bread from Fogo de Chao. The sausage bread was a hit with the kids. And they had to have the shaved ice and boba tea. They tell me we are definitely coming back... This week. Lol
google avatar

Yelp
Ellicott City is a hidden gem of cool Asian restaurants/grocery stores. This cafe is no exception. I first heard of this bakery through family who had gotten two birthday cakes from this bakery (within the same week) They were both delicious! What I love about Asian cakes/baked goods is that they're never too sweet and they're so light. Aside from the birthday cakes, I visited this bakery once with my mom for dessert. We came a little later around 8:30 and the place was still bustling. You can tell they have lots of baked goods for sale on their shelves that sold out before we got there. I ordered a Cookie Monster dessert and my mom got a slice of cake. We wanted to order decaf coffee to drink with our desserts but the only type of dessert they had decaf was an Americano which I thought was kind of strange for a bakery/coffee shop. I would say that was the only downfall. They seem to also specialize in an ice cream type dessert that I need to try! I saw a lot of people order it, so that will definitely be on my list to try next when I come here.

Yelp
Good coffee and always excellent pastries and other baked food. Wide variety to choose from with sweets and savory. Very clean and well maintained.

Yelp
I came here with my mother to spend some time with her since I dont live in the area anymore. My mom tries to buy some breads but then the cashier (manager?) lady was so disrespectful to my mother and kept glaring at her the whole time we were there. Her condescending attitude towards my mother made me want to go full-blown-karen on her but I didnt want to further embarass my mother since the lady did plenty of that already. Its not ok that she continues to act this way especially since there are much better options literally right across the street..It was obviously my mistake for coming here to begin with. Trash Deserves Trash

Yelp
What an adorable bakery with so many desserts! I came here with a group of friends and we all purchased various rolls/ pastries to share. The mocha crepe cake was definitely the best dessert I've had. I will definitely be back here again to try more stuff.

Yelp
Shilla used to be the Mecca of korean bakeries but sadly has gone downhill since the opening of other korean bakeries in the area. I recently came to Shilla to relive my high school days and reminisce over their bingsoo's which I was obsessed with. But the lack of flavor, freshness, and overall state of the dessert left me feeling a little butt hurt - definitely not the Shilla I once knew. Everything tasted like it came out of a can, the ice was super coarse and instead of the fluffy bingsoo's we have all grown to love, i felt like my teeth were going to fall out from chewing so much ice. Mind you, I HATE the feeling of chewing ice...it gives me that nails on a chalkboard feeling and so I left feeling slightly disturbed. Also, I don't know if service is nonexistent because of the nonexistent customers, almost as if the employees have gotten used to the eeriness in the store but.. I almost never see anyone working here until I'm ready to pay. So sad to see the decline of the Shilla legacy because it used to be POPPIN' a few years back, but every time I come, it's empty and the bread and desserts often are not fresh. Especially disappointing because the quality is not as great as the surrounding Korean bakeries, it's still at the same price point. With some revamped decor and fresh baked breads, shilla could still be a classic - really hope they up their game in the future. But for now, it's gonna be a no from me dawg.

Patrick S.

Yelp
I bought a chocolate mousse cake from here for my mom's birthday and it was absolutely delicious. It was a bit expensive compared to American cakes but the taste made up for it in my opinion. The only thing they could have done better is give me a plastic bag as it was raining outside but I guess I have to ask for one. But I guess it was ok because the box that the cake was in was very sturdy and didn't collapse when it got rained on. Overall I will be coming back to try out their other cakes.
google avatar

Jenny B.

Yelp
The bing soo (shaved ice) at Shilla is delicious! If you don't know what bing soo is, it's a dessert that consists of shaved ice, condensed milk, various fruits, mochi, sesame powder, etc. I love red bean so I get the red bean bing soo every time but they also have a lot of other flavors to chose from such as yogurt ice cream, fruit etc. I believe all of the bing soo has fruit but the fruit one just has more fruit. I could definitely finish one by myself because I love bing soo but it is pretty sizable so you could definitely share one between 2-3 people. In addition to bing soo, Shilla has a huge selection of various Asian breads and cookies with samples that you can try. Their cakes are also absolutely adorable! Korean cakes tend to be less sweet than your average American cake - many are topped with fruit and cream rather than sugary icing. The sweet potato cake is one of my favorites!
google avatar

Sean F.

Yelp
The is a dessert review only. The baked goods looked pretty good and the next time I stop by I'll grab something that catches my eye. I stopped by Shilla for one reason only, the bing soo. It comes in a large goblet sized bowl with shaved ice, I think a bean pie (not 100% sure it's a bean pie but it was chewy), ice cream and flavored syrup. They also come with other toppings like fruit or coconut depending on the flavor you chose. My first bing soo was Hawaiian flavored and came with pineapple syrup and coconut pieces. Comparing the pictures I've seen and what mine looked like was a little...disappointing. The flavor wasn't bad though and overall it wasn't a bad dessert. I think there is also mochi as well which provides a different texture. Not bad for a first time, I'd give it a second shot.
google avatar

Eunice K.

Yelp
You need to ask for red bean, mochi or fruits and they charge you a dollar more. The green tea bingsoo consists of green tea ice cream, shaved ice and condensed milk. We did find about 5 mochi's in our green tea bingsoo, but that was about it :( Anyways parking is not hard to find. This bakery is located in the shopping center where kim bap nara, jimmy johns and a beer and wine store is. It's right in front of BonChon EC. As soon as you enter there are baskets on the left for customers to place their pastries in. I was walking around and I smelt a funky, sour, dirty rag smell. It was very displeasing and I did not want to get anything but my friend suggested a bingsoo (shaved ice) so we got one and it did not have all the good fix-ins like the Shilla in Rockville or Annandale. I saw pictures online so assumed the green tea bingsoo came with other things but nope. The bingsoo is still good but would have preferred it with some cereal and more mochi. I was thinking about getting a macaron but saw it and it did not look good. Did not have nice feet and was very lumpy looking. Customer service was okay.
google avatar

Kris L.

Yelp
Super clean, cute, and tasty! This Shilla location is fabulous. They have an incredible selection of pastries and cakes and the pastries even have samples in front! If you're not sure what to get, the mocha bread pastry is amazing, light, and sweet. (Oh and plenty buttery :) The pot bing soo is perfection as always. The Fruit bing soo: mixed fruit (melons, peaches, strawberries, grapes, etc) with ice and melon flavored syrup. Light and perfect for the summer or a lighter snack! The breakfast menu is still pending. Love this Shilla!

Yelp
Loved their pastries, breakfest croissant sandwich, and coffee! Will definitely be back

Yelp
Went there to get a cake for my husband at almost closing time and the young cashier was so helpful and polite. Absolutely will come back.
google avatar

Tee B.

Yelp
The food here is great. I visit the bakery at least once a week for fresh bread but usually try a different treat when I'm there. I've had the rice donuts and chocolate chip and red velvet cookies. I've also had a few of the pastries. Everything taste good. The customer service however isn't the best. Don't expect to be spoken to when you walk in the door. Don't expect friendly conversation. Don't even expect eye contact. It may be a cultural thing but they're not the least bit interested in you or your questions. If you're cool with that - you'll love this place.
google avatar

Ann P.

Yelp
This place is overrated. I feel like there are many other desert places near by that serve much better deserts than this bakery. When I call they rarely pick up. However, there are samples to taste before you buy your pastries. Also they opened on Christmas and thanksgiving. At least Christmas and thanksgiving of 2014. So maybe they open every Christmas and thanksgiving (however, don't count on that) call before you go on any holiday!

Lee S.

Yelp
Cute cozy Asian bakery serving up pretty good baked goods and great coffee. I came for mooncakes which they didnt have but I grabbed a few cream rolls, red bean buns and twisty donuts that were really good.

Yelp
One of the many korean bakeries in ellicott city, this place is a chain but their stuff is very good. Hours are good asthey are typically open till 11. There is a large variety of goods with samples for many of them. Dont come here expecting american baked goods (like donuts, cookies, brownies), this place has french inspired baked goods, bread, and various korean style goods. The place also serves a pretty decent coffee and tea and also serves the traditional korean dessert bingsoo. If youve never had it, its certainly worth a try. As this place is in the heart of K-town in maryland, it is definitely authentic when it comes to korean style baked goods. Their cakes are amazing and are typically cream based and not covered in frosting. Its a little pricey but worth it.

Yelp
Recently purchased a half sheet cake layered with fresh fruit and an absolutely beautiful happy birthday design with a terrific fruit-filled icing. The cake was light and exceptionally flavored. I was tremendously pleased! and so were my guests who exclaimed that it was the best tasting sheet cake ever. It was pricey, but well worth it for a special occasion. Audrey Simmons

Yelp
My latte tasted like fake sugar, my cookies were hard as a rock. A pastry filled with beans had about 5 ingredients listed on a sign in the store, yet the packaging listed at least 20. I forgot about a couple items in my pantry and they are still soft and not moldy 7 days later. Full of preservatives. I didn't get a single item worth consuming.
