"Shima is the (twin) sister of Katana in North Beach. Exactly like Katana, you sit around a lazy stream and the sushi arrives on small boats. Prices correspond to varying plate colors and they don’t take reservations. Unlike Katana, the wait time won't have you fall into an existential spiral about how most of your life is wasted on waiting for things. Order the spider roll with the server because it won’t appear via boat travel, and it’s too good to miss. Shima is a reliable and casual sushi spot to come with your favorite group chat of two other people. But it also works great for eating alone while contemplating the physics of buoyancy as salmon nigiri floats your way." - mariana trabanino, virginia otazo, ryan pfeffer

Google
Very fresh sushi 🍣 and fun vibe ! Excellent service , but it did seem pricey for what you get. A little too pricey so please keep that in mind. Otherwise I liked it

Google
If you love to eat sushi it’s a place you for sure needs to visit make sure your there before they open at 6pm if you like to experience the best sit in front of the boats the prices are base on the color/pattern of your plate it’s a good value if it’s 2 people and you share plates like that you get to experience all the plates and not get that full Nate are server was really nice and the chefs where amazing overall I love this place.

Martha (Marty)

Google
Super fun!!! Definitely will return. The sushi is extremely fresh and everything moves so there's no fear of anything floating around to long. Service is good and fast. Loved it!

Google
Disappointing experience overall. The fish quality was mediocre at best—definitely not what you’d expect from a sushi bar. The rice was just passable, lacking proper seasoning to complement the fish. For a rotating sushi bar, I hoped for better freshness and flavor. Not sure if I’d return, even if I’m craving sushi

Google
Such a fun place. Sushi floats by your table on tiny boats You grab the plates off of the boats. Every dish was better than the next. Rolls, gyoza, shrimp on a stick. Dragon rolls, seaweed Salad calamari. It's amazing. Prices are very reasonable. Food is excellent as is the quality of the food.

Google
I always have the best experience here. The quality of the ingredients is amazing. The food is amazing and I love the floating sushi boats! This place is better suited for groups of 4 or less. It’s an intimate atmosphere. And the service is genuine and friendly.

Google
Love this place! Been coming here for over 10 years! The food is delicious. Love the boats! Definitely must try. Wish they had a larger selection of rolls but I'm always satisfied when leaving.

Excellent Sushi, great service, definitely a must do

Yelp
Been to Shima around 5 times now at different times of the evening and year and have found nothing but delicious fresh sushi every single time. The most I've waited for a table near the boats is 20 minutes, not sure if I've just been lucky. The salmon nigiri with mayo and thinly sliced onions is my personal slice of heaven. Incredibly fresh, sweet, salty, umami flavor. Every other roll I've tried is exceptional. My only complaint is overuse of sweet & sour sauce on the rolls the swim past. Not my favorite so I skip those when they go by. I feel like the ruggedness of the place keeps away the typical "Miami crowds" looking for an instagramable party spot. Which is a huge plus for locals. I definitely go out of my way to visit.

Yelp
Used to come to Shima often a few years ago and loved it. However, recently went again and it's not as good as before. Solid spot if you're in the Miami lakes area and craving some sushi but nowhere near the best. With the price increases it isn't as good of a value anymore. Not bad but not great either. One thing is consistent though, a very friendly staff and nice ambiance.

Yelp
I love this place. It's a small, family-owned restaurant with kind, caring, passionate employees and the FOOD is superb. Ask what's good and they won't steer you wrong, as they ask you a few questions about what you like and don't, and about allergies. It's only open from 6pm to midnight and expect to wait, if you decide to go at peak dining hours. You will GLADLY wait as long as they ask, once you've tried it. You'll become a "regular". Like me. If you want the freshest of the fresh, go 30 minutes before they open (before 5:30pm) and you'll be among the first to sit down. Expect a line, yes, even at that time. SOOOOOO worth it. YES, they have boats floating around the restaurant, in water. Yes, see attached video.

Christopher R.

Yelp
Everything was soooooooo good! We opted to sit at a table next to the food boats that go by and just grabbed plates we liked. Sorry for the terrible photos but I devoured all our own food and snapped some pics of the food going by. We will definitely be back here!

Sarai R.

Yelp
Shima is a MAIN staple in the hialeah/miami lakes area. I mean they open at 6 pm and have a line before opening, that alone should say enough! People line up just to have sushi on little boats because it truly is delicious AND affordable! how can you go wrong with delicious and affordable- you can't! i wish i had more pictures to post but everytime i come here im starving and too excited to eat that i don't have time to take pictures ! ill forever be a loyal customer at Shima as it'll remain one of my favorite sushi spots forever! thank you Shima!

Jennifer V.

Yelp
This place is fantastic! The food is fresh and made in front of you. You can also order from the menu but they have so many options on the boats there is no need to order from it. Wait is a little long so i suggest to go knowing wait can sometimes be over an hour. I try to also go around 10pm where is not as bad. Overall the place is amazing. I go at least twice a month and not a bad experience until now.

Christopher H.

Yelp
I love the food boat experience but not impressed with the lack of variety of the plates. You usually get about 3-5 of the same dishes going around. Otherwise, the food quality and service are as expected and there's a varied menu. My rating is mostly on the lack of variety on the food boats.

Heliana R.

Yelp
The sushi is good especially the sashimi but it was hard to enjoy since I looked up and there was dust all over the ceiling in small balls that could easily fall In our food the whole place needs a good cleaning wall ceilings

Anne K.

Yelp
Such a lovely low key place with rotation of boats and fresh sushi around the board. The service was great Nate is always helpful with the qr menu and bring drinks. The place is a small but full of memories, and soul that it makes you feel right in Japan.

Alex K.

Yelp
Small but definitely worth the wait. The sushi tastes so fresh and the cooked food has great flavor. It's fun to grab the plates off the boats but it's also nice that they give you the option to order rolls directly from the staff. The quality, price and taste was ideal.

Valentina A.

Yelp
We moved away for a few years so we had not been here since pre-pandemic days. It felt so good to be back. Shima is a place you come with time, patience. You will have to wait to be seated. And when you are seated, anything you grab from the boats, or order from the menu will be fresh and delicious. It is busy, bursting with sounds of conversations, laughter. The sounds of people enjoying the moment, company, and food. I'm so glad to live 10 minutes away now.

Jos C.

Yelp
Shima is our old faithful. It's our neighborhood favorite spot. It's one of those hoe in the walls that you don't want to judge a book by it's covered. Great Sushi, made affordable , with the most consistent service and the Same faces to serve you. we absolutely love coming here after work.

Steve L.

Yelp
Delicious, Fresh & Fun is how I can sum up Shima. I've had Shima on my radar for a bit now as I heard they were the sister restaurant to Katana on the beach. And if you know me, you'll know I'd rather stick a needle in my eye than visit Miami Beach. So I took advantage that I was in the area and decided to stop by for a quick dinner with the wife. Parking was super easy as it was in a strip mall. It was a Monday night and although I heard the wait is sometimes long we were fortunate to only wait 10 minutes. I quickly ordered a Sapporo because when in Rome and I was pleasantly surprised by the 20oz bottle. As I sat there looking at all the boats full of delicious options I felt like a kid in a candy store. They had a wide variety of rolls, nigiri, sashimi, tempura etc. It was more about what didn't I want to try. I wont go into detail describing every single thing we tried but I will say our top items were the shrimp lollipops, the takoyaki, the tuna sashimi and the tuna nigiri. With honorable mention to a tuna roll with sweet chili sauce. There was nothing we tried that disappointed us. Everything was super fresh. I mean it was a Monday night and the restaurant was full. Which to me that's not only a great sign in general but specifically for a Japanese restaurant because it normally means the freshest of ingredients. It was not only entertaining to watch all the boats go by and trying to decide what next but it was also exciting watching the chef prepare the dishes right in front of you. The atmosphere was very laid back and chill. They charge by the plate and the plate colors determine the price. My only complaint is that I didn't have room for dessert. But that's a problem simply solved by another visit. Which is definitely happening sooner rather than later. Highly recommend traveling to Hialeah to try Shima.

Priscilla L.

Yelp
Born and raised in Hialeah, I've driven by this place a million times, seen it on Yelp a million and one, but never gave it a chance until recently. I should have certainly stopped by sooner. Since my first time, I've gone a handful more. I suggest getting there expecting to wait a bit, if you go during their dinner rush. If you are alone, chances of being sat sooner are greater haha. I've gone post shift, after a workout or when I don't feel like waiting for my food to be made. The restaurant serves sushi on small boats that move down a bar using a stream of water. Each plate is priced between $2-7. I'll normally grab a couple plates as soon as I'm sat and then order a couple hot plates off their paper menu. The staff is friendly and attentive. They check tables consistently and the food comes out rather quickly. I recommend this spot for anyone looking for some good, local sushi. It's a great place for a quick meal and they're open late!

Gloria A.

Yelp
I've had the pleasure of dining at this place a couple of times, and I must say, I highly recommend arriving early. They open at 6 pm, but be prepared for a line - it's a popular spot, and there's usually a crowd waiting. If you're not a fan of tight spaces or being seated close to strangers, keep in mind that they can only accommodate about 50 people. Now, onto the food. They offer a unique experience by delivering various items via sushi boats, but you can also order directly through your server, and they bring it out promptly. I personally enjoyed the udon soup; it's delicious and perfect for curing a hangover or comforting you on a rainy day, and I happened to experience both during my visits. The pork dumplings were bursting with flavor, and while the gyoza is only pan-fried, they're quite good. I also had a soft spot for the veggie rolls. This place is perfect for a quick bite when you're in the mood for something tasty. I want to give a special shoutout to Nathan, who was incredibly sweet and helpful. He even took care of packing up my leftover soup.

Jonathan T.

Yelp
When it comes to sushi Shima is my go to. The sushi boat experiences are always pleasurable being able to get what you want and enjoy. The sushi itself is always fresh, super tasty and available with various fish options! Of course the staff is super friendly and if you have any requests for items that aren't revolving in the boats you're more than free to order! Inside the ambiance is great, the semi dim lighting, the knee style sitting tables in the front, and the cute boats used for the sushi boats makes it a must come back eatery!

Anthony M.

Yelp
They have a roach problem. Remodel the place and fix that issue. Last time I went we sat at the bar and a roach fell on my gf. She literally ran out and I still paid. The waiters and servers brushed it off.

Laura O.

Yelp
We had the most incredible experience at Shima! We go to Katana all the time but didn't feel like waiting today and decided to try out Shima! The wait was only 20 minutes which is incredible compared to 2+ hours!! And the service was amazing! The selection of sushi was constantly changing and everything I had was so delicious and fresh. They were really attentive and the place was spacious. I love that there's plenty of parking and you can opt out of sitting next to the boats and only ordering a la carte if you don't feel like waiting. We loved this location, the service and the variety of the sushi! OIIISHIIII

Chris C.

Yelp
Descent rolls. Small place with a long wait time for mediocre food. Not a lot of variety of sushi that goes around.

Daniel R.

Yelp
If you come here, you will usually be waiting for a table. The allure here is the sushi items floating by. Pricing works by the colour of the plate. You can pick as much as you like as it floats by. For vegetarians it's rather limited. I liked the food quality but didn't like the thickness of the roll cuts. The crepe cake was a favourite. They are open until 12am with last calls at 11:30. I found it to be reasonably priced and there is plenty of parking. Nice option for Hialeah and southern Broward. It's more fun than an average sushi restaurant and it's worth trying just for the experience.

Leo G.

Yelp
I had a fun date with my girl on a weekday night, which is nicer because less traffic more time to enjoy the seating at the sushi bar.

Gabriel H.

Yelp
Food was solid, albeit a bit pricey for my liking. Go on a Friday night and the wait is a bit long but overall liked the restaurant would recommend going there again. Service was fine and the ambiance was cute with the river of sushi. Overall, great atmosphere and good date night spot.

Elizabeth 'Betsy' G.

Yelp
Great spot for sushi. Most of the food is served by way of a river with floating sushi boats. That is my favorite part. Spotting a great bite, hoping no one else grabs it. Waiting for the boat to arrive and finally getting to taste what you have been eying. It's a small spot in a strip mall that opens for dinner. There is always a wait, but it is not excessive. They are happy to accommodate any special preferences or requests. You can watch the Sushi Chef from almost and seat in the house. You are charged by the plate and the prices are determined by the plate color. A few dollars a plate so is def a good deal. Definitely worth a visit. One of my regulars.

Jennifer G.

Yelp
This place was sooo much fun!!! I came here with my husband and loved it!! I had no idea hialeah had a conveyor belt sushi restaurant and so glad I found it because I will be coming back!!! The sushi here was very good. I recommend this place for mostly raw sushi. Unfortunately I was pregnant at the time and couldn't eat a lot of the rolls but my husband loved all the raw fish and sashimi. I need to go back when I'm not pregnant anymore!!

Emi M.

Yelp
I recently had the pleasure of dining at this beautiful ambiance and amazing sushi restaurant, and let me tell you, it was an experience to remember! The concept of serving appetizers on boats was not only unique but also incredibly fun. I couldn't get enough of watching the delicious dishes float by, each one more tempting than the last. The sushi itself was top-notch - fresh, flavorful, and expertly prepared. I particularly enjoyed the variety of rolls and sashimi options available. And let's not forget about the ramen - it was absolutely delicious, with a rich broth and perfectly cooked noodles. But what truly made the dining experience exceptional was the impeccable service. Our waiter Alex was not only attentive and knowledgeable but also incredibly friendly. It's always a pleasure to be served by someone who truly cares about their customers. Overall, I highly recommend this sushi place to anyone looking for a memorable dining experience. From the delicious food to the unique presentation and excellent service, it's a must-visit for any food lover!

Lasana S.

Yelp
Shima is a neighborhood gem. In my opinion, this restaurant has some of the best sushi in South Florida. I've eaten in the restaurant as well as have ordered it for delivery. The sushi is always fresh. It's also reasonably priced. I love that for the price of one sushi roll in other restaurants, you can come here and get multiple rolls. Instead of a conveyor belt, Shima has revolving boats. You can either pick up sushi from one of the plates coming around or order from the menu. The color of the plates tells you how much each dish is. The restaurant is within a strip mall. It doesn't have a lot of seating. So very often there is a line. Make sure to add your name to the wait list.

Karyn C.

Yelp
Loved the rolls they had to offer. The rotating boats were my absolute favorite thing.

Angel W.

Yelp
Cute little spot for late night sushi! This is one of the kaiten sushi/ floating boat/conveyor belt ones. Its cute & the food was pretty fresh. We lucked out and sat near the chef deposit station. You may also order directly from the server for things you are craving. We got lots of different types of offerings and had a great time trying new things. Most things didn't have any descriptions. Everything tasted good & fresh. Being from LA, we have excellent sushi at great prices. This was fair for what you get in Miami. Krab salad - krab with a mayo sauce, this was actually really good Shrimp Dumplings - these were yum! Tasted like ground shrimp with water chestnuts and fried Seared Tuna with mayo - Super yum & fresh! Sushi Sashimi - fresh & delicious Green tea Cheesecake - very good flavors, not too sweet or bitter, it was great & fluffy The place looked clean and we had good service. Parking is free & convenient in the shared plaza. Recommended.

Karla G.

Yelp
Everything was delicious! The atmosphere is nice and the sushi boats was a hit, will definitely comeback.

Jorge G.

Yelp
Came here with my wife and I loved the concept. A fun way to have sushi!! I love that you get to choose which sushi you want. Their sashimi here is amazing. Very fresh and great quality fish. There aren't many cooked rolls and also I feel like all the plates circulating were the expensive plates so the bill came out s little pricey. But loved this place - will definitely come bsck!!

Jose P.

Yelp
I don't like the fact that Shimas closes at 12am and the employees are cleaning up at 11pm . Spraying windex all over the counters and me having to smell that while we are still eating . Also , sweeping all the dust up while we are still eating . Please advise employees of this bad habit .

Nicole A.

Yelp
Their sushi is fantastic!!! The only problem is the price, in my opinion, it could be 3-4 people eating a bit of sushi, and the price will reach $130. The sushi really is amazing though. I love the ambiance and the look of their restaurant, I also love their conveyor belt.

George M.

Yelp
Yeah the Sushi is great and the experience is cool But The price has gone up A lot $90 for some simple sushi is a bit much. Those little plates really add up

Miami L.

Yelp
I used to be OBSESSED with Shimas, I literally went every other weekend since 2017, but then it started went viral on social media. Prices increased, portion size decreased. I always get tonkotsu ramen, many times to go. This was definitely the most disappointing take out food I had ever bought. Wasted $14.14 for COLD sticky, mush noodles, HALF of one egg and ONE single piece of chashu. They used to give the whole egg, just cut in half, how much can the other half cost? Either way you need to toss it after an hour. They used to give us at least TWO pieces of pork, four if you were lucky. The soup container has also decreased and the soup base was super SALTY. I am so sad and dissatisfied. I'm heartbroken, I need to find another place for tonkotsu ramen

Andro S.

Yelp
Tried this place for the first time. The food was ok, but the place itself is very small and tight. When you focus on the restaurant itself it doesn't seem to be very clean. I probably won't be coming back.

Luis G.

Yelp
This has become a clutch late-nite order spot for me when I'm having a night in and not in the mood to leave my apartment and craving something other than fast food (there's A LOT of that in Miami Lakes lol). Food has been consistent and I like really like Box C with the assortment of rolls (Dragon, Blanca, Bunaken, Avo Dynamite, Krab Dynamite). Would rather order from here than the Sushi Sake that's closer, it always seems like such a mission and I like the non-chain vibe in relation to authenticity in the cuisine. Will have to pop in here one day and do a sit down to get the full experience, but until then, thanks Shima!

Natalie C.

Yelp
Unfortunately, I have to rate this place one star because the food is good however, it needs to be updated. The customer service and the waiting system is poor.

Emily M.

Yelp
have been coming to this place for years, best sushi you can get in town.always fresh and yummy and REAL SUSHI. Sarah is the best waiter ever. the restaurant itself is just a bit outdated but so worth it. best sashimi in all types of fish and classic rolls and how could u forget their chicken teriyaki, it's the best! luckily their prices are still reasonable unlike most other places.make sure to try their dessert. i 100% recommend this place for a family or a nice easy night out, never gets old!

Alejandra M.

Yelp
THE FOOD : -Chicken teriyaki rice bowl was delicious and I highly recommend for my non seafood lovers . -Sweet and hot chicken platter comes with miso soup 6/10 . The chicken was not spicy at all and the chicken tasted alright. the chicken teriyaki was 1000 % better -Cleopatra roll Alaskan dream , the shima roll All of them were amazing ! I would rate the Alaskan dream the lowest because it had too much cream cheese ,it was overpowering . PRICE : is great it was $120 between 4 people ! And we were stuffed PLACE : it took about 40 minutes to sit but once you sit you can eat immediately from the sushi boats going around . It's SUPER CASUAL like you can go in a hoodie , sweatpants and slides . It's a small place ,located in a big plaza .a good spot for locals to get yummy sushi . Overall we enjoyed our food and will be recommending !

Monica A.

Yelp
There's more than meets the eye here! Seeing it from the outside, you wouldn't expect much. Entering though, the ambiance is comforting and casual. I love that there's a conveyor belt of boats carrying the food to you, and all the food looks delicious- and is! It's reasonably priced, staff is welcoming, and they have the best Thai donuts I've ever tried. This is a great place for a date night, but expect a small wait if you want to sit near the boats.

Agung D.

Yelp
They open 6 pm - 12 pm 7 days a week with sushi floating on a sushi boat. Not a lot place have this thing anymore. The kitchen menu is okay to feed the night crawl, the ambiance is great, just get ready because the seating is not a lot. Make sure to put your name on waiting list so when they have empty seat you can get it

Kelechi A.

Yelp
terrible customer service with a rude attendant. First she could not give me a menu, then was fussing about where I STOOD to make my order even though that's where she'd indicated. Told me I could not sit at a table to make my order because I was ordering takeout. I walked out. Does not deserve a dollar from me. My only terrible experience in Miami.

Catalina S.

Yelp
The food was so good. Everything about it and the little boats made it such an amazing experience!! There's a kinda long wait depending how many people are there. But overall it was the best experience!! For desert I recommend getting the fried oreos!!

Ashleigh S.

Yelp
I can't believe I've been in this complex several times but never tried this place!! They just recently reopened the sushi boats (yay!) I ordered a bunch of different nigiri and was completely impressed at the freshness! My absolute favorite was the albacore (bincho) nigiri. Their Ikura was also perfection! I did notice that their wasabi wasn't as hot as I'm used to having, not sure what was up with that but I didn't complain. It's so hard to find sushi that is insanely fresh but also doesn't break the bank nowadays. This place is definitely a staple!

Kia F.

Yelp
Shima used to be a solid choice. Specially loved the 4pc roll idea so that we can get a bunch of different rolls. We've probably had their food 20-30 times over the years. Recently quality has been declining. But tonight we had some of the worst sushi we've ever had. Tasting and smelling "funny". No one could have more than a piece. Really disappointing.

Clarissa B.

Yelp
I always loved the food here, I used to be a regular and have gotten so many people on. I hate that I have to write this but my last experience ruined it for me and all my friends and we haven't been since. I got a curly beard hair in my food (I found him at the very end of my meal ) and the manager was so rude and snappy with me, very "what do you want me to do about it" attitude just because i already paid instead of at least genuinely apologizing/offering me something/given a crap/or just given me more than a minute of her time and was just a decent person instead of adding even more negativity to the already stomach turning experience.

Kalvin K.

Yelp
Really a no frills Japanese place located in Hialeah. They have good sushi specials and the restaurant is kind of small so it fills up pretty quickly. My friends and I enjoyed good sushi, some drinks, and some other Japanese favorites. It was moderately priced and well done. Service is a bit disorganized but I think it's just how the concept is. Would repeat.

Marquel R.

Yelp
I'm not a big sushi fan but they have a lot of choices for people to enjoy sushi and choices without. I tried the noodles and chicken but wasn't really impressed, I got the thick noodles. Tried all the non sushi items on the floating trays and was pretty good
