I’ve been a big fan of Bill Bensley ever since staying at the InterContinental Danang, so I was especially excited for Shinta Mani Angkor. While this property carries his signature touch, I do feel the design here doesn’t quite stand out as boldly as some of his other projects.
The main building (lobby and guest rooms) feels a bit more restrained and slightly cramped, possibly due to space limitations. The rooms themselves show a bit of wear. In contrast, the wing across the street — where the restaurant and spa are located — carries more of that dramatic “Angkor” spirit, with stronger thematic elements and a bit more wow factor.
That said, the overall experience was still very solid, and I genuinely left wishing I could stay longer.
Service is where this hotel truly shines. Our concierge, Daly, was exceptional — she helped arrange our Angkor tour, restaurant reservations, and spa bookings seamlessly. The private car service was a highlight: returning from the heat to a chilled bottle of water and a lotus-scented cold towel felt heavenly. The tour guide arranged by the hotel was knowledgeable and tailored the experience to our interests, which made a big difference.
Breakfast was also excellent — one of the better hotel breakfasts I’ve had, with a thoughtful mix of local Khmer dishes and Western options. The pool area was pleasant and well serviced.
The only small hiccup was at checkout, where it took a bit of time to sort out the hotel credit from The Edit. Otherwise, the staff here truly make the stay special.
Would recommend for travelers who value attentive service and a well-located boutique base for exploring Angkor — even if the design impact isn’t as dramatic as some other Bensley icons.
