This Month's New Hotels

"The historical and spiritual gravity of the temples at Angkor don’t stop Shinta Mani from indulging its playful side — this Siem Reap luxury resort was designed by Bill Bensley, known for a number of Southeast Asia’s finest hotels. Here he’s at his most eclectic, leaving his stamp — and his artworks — all over the resort." - MICHELIN Guide

"Given the abundance of hotels in Siem Reap , it’s hard to imagine that when the Shinta Mani opened in 2003 there were few—if any—comparable boutique properties in town. It set the bar for those seeking a smaller-scale, personable, and indulgent experience, from the traditional Khmer decor to the cuisine. And like any great hotel, there comes a time for a change. Enter Bill Bensley, the Harvard-educated, Bangkok -based architect and landscape designer behind many of the world’s most arresting properties, who led a two-year total renovation of the place completed in 2012. Using cues from Angkor—columned passages, Buddhist shrines, maps and photos of the temples—Bensley dramatically transformed the Shinta Mani into a contemporary haven with a touch of whimsy, now called Shinta Mani Angkor(the larger Shinta ManiShack resort is across the road). Interiors use a stark palette—white subway-tiled floors and walls; heavy black armoires; charcoal-gray terrazzo partitions; stainless-steel light fixtures—offset by tangerine accents, in a nod to the orange-clad Buddhist monks who meander the temples’ time-worn sandstone structures. From the sugar palm tree–fringed black granite lap pool to the dangling daybeds where you’ll enjoy the decadent breakfast buffet, the Shinta Mani offers just the right mix of drama and comfort."

Review: Shinta Mani Angkor - Bensley Collection, Siem Reap - SilverKris

"Designed by Bill Bensley, this intimate resort of 10 exclusive villas showcases his fantastical luxury aesthetic: floor-to-ceiling windows, manicured gardens, plush rooftop living spaces and oversized lap pools. The villas blend elegance and comfort with black, white and gold accents, unique items from the designer’s personal art and antiques collection, and walls adorned with 3D carvings evoking the flowing robes of Jayavarman, the revered 12th-century Khmer king. Sleep quality is prioritized—Bensley personally selected each bed and blackout drape—and guests receive personalised service from the dedicated “Bensley Butlers,” who facilitate a seamless arrival via a tucked-away entrance (including skipping Immigration queues) and can arrange sunset Angkor tours or romantic dinners atop villas. Guests also have access to facilities at nearby Shinta Mani properties—two pools, the Khmer-inspired restaurants Kroya and Baitong, the ultra-chic Bensley’s Bar, and the Shinta Mani Spa. The operation is tied to a strong social mission: the Shinta Mani Foundation and its School of Hospitality (which has trained more than 245 students) support local healthcare, education and small-business initiatives and offer volunteering and donation opportunities for visitors." - Vanessa Tai

We stayed at the Shinto Mani as part of our Emerald Cruise Mekong tour. What a beautiful hotel. Staff are extremely friendly and can’t do enough for you. Great rooms with plenty of space and comfortable lounge area. Bathrooms are a good size and clean. Breakfast was included and had a great buffet, variety of options and an egg station. Use of 2 pools (the smaller lap pool is surprisingly cool and such a treat given most pools in Asian countries are like a warm bath, it genuinely cools your core), great happy hour and the Bensley Bar has live music and a great fun fit out. I love their ethos of supporting young local Cambodian’s to make a career for themselves and learn a skill or trade. Well worth supporting just for this reason. I think this is why their staff are so accommodating, knowing that they have been given the opportunity for a job and are so grateful for it. My only suggestion would be to have some extra pillow options (memory foam or latex) haha love my pillow comments/ suggestions. Thank you for a wonderful stay. Highly recommended stay.

This place is spectacular. Tucked away on a side street just a few blocks from the Old Market and bustling Pub Street, Shinta Mani Angkor is an oasis. Our deluxe room was spacious, quiet, and clean. We enjoyed great meals and drinks at all of the restaurants (Kroyo tasting menu is a must). Service was impeccable from start to finish, especially Franklin, who attended to every detail. Would absolutely recommend this place for anyone visiting Siem Reap.

My third stay at Shinta Mani Angkor, and it only gets better each time. This visit I stayed in a villa — absolutely beautiful, with our own pool and exceptional service throughout. The team went above and beyond: they opened the gym early for my partner, packed us a delicious breakfast for our Angkor Wat sunrise tour, and handled every request with warmth and ease. Service here is gentle, intuitive, and never intrusive. A special thank-you to our wonderful butlers, Sokha and Neand, for their thoughtfulness — from daily care to a lovely birthday surprise with a homemade card and cake. The food was outstanding, and every detail was perfectly managed. Truly a sanctuary of genuine hospitality. Highly recommended.

What a great hotel! Can’t say enough good things about our 4-night stay here! The staff were all so friendly and attentive, always making sure to stop and say hello and ask about our plans. We especially appreciated how great Franklin and Kim Hong were—they arranged many activities for us and gave us so many good recommendations! They caught us each day to check in with us and were always so pleasant. The rest of the staff were also so warm and inviting. Our room was always cleaned very quickly in the morning, and it was a great size for two people. The shower water pressure was great, especially for someone with thick hair. The breakfast was tasty, the pool was very nice, and the common areas always seemed clean. We also enjoyed the spa treatments a few times during our stay, and it did not disappoint. Overall, highly recommend the hotel if you’re staying in Siem Reap!

We stayed at this hotel for our honeymoon, and everything was simply perfect — truly magical. The cleanliness was impeccable, the service outstanding, and the staff’s kindness exceptional. We were guided through every detail by the amazing Daly, who also helped us organize and book wonderful experiences and excursions. One of these was a visit to Angkor Wat with the incredible guide Rom, who led us step by step and explained every detail — highly recommended! Breakfast was plentiful and of excellent quality, and the pool was absolutely beautiful. What more could we ask for? We couldn’t have dreamed of a better stay. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts, Shinta Mani, for making our honeymoon truly unforgettable!

My husband and I came during the rainy season for two days and one night. We were originally meant to stay for two nights but an series of air travel issues got us in a day late. The Shinta Mani Angkor staff were SO accommodating and made what I had almost written off as a wash into two of the best days in our SE Asia tour! Our butler Grace was amazing and went out of her way to help us coordinate temple logistics in real time as our travel issues updated. She even went back to the airport on day 2 to pick up our lost luggage for us. Lee, our temple tour guide, was also so amazing. He took us through all of the minor circuit in two half-day tours and was so knowledgable about the temples as well as current events in Cambodia. He also took some pretty awesome pictures for us!|We stayed in the Pool Villa which was 100% worth it. The food was delicious and in really large portions too. My only regret is that we weren't able to stay longer. There is so much to explore in Siem Reap and Shinta Mani Angkor is a great home base to do it in.
