Shiori - Review - Mitte - Berlin - The Infatuation

"Shiori is perfect if you’ve got something to celebrate, but want to do things a little differently. Every evening, 10 guests sit around a Japanese-style bar surrounding an open kitchen during a single seating at 7:30pm. Everyone chooses their own chopsticks and ceramic sake cup, then the omakase begins. The food focuses on European ingredients cooked with Japanese techniques, like kingfish sashimi with yellow turnips or Bresse chicken in dashi and sancho pepper. The bites are small, so don’t show up starving, or afterwards, plan to go for some gelato at nearby Cuore Di Vetro before it closes at 11pm." - Barbara Woolsey

An amazing and unique experience. I would absolutely recommend Shiori to everyone interested in an authentic Japanese omakase. Each course is a surprising combination of interesting and matching flavours. Definitely coming back on my next Berlin trip. Thank you for this amazing evening

This is not just a restaurant but an art gallery.  The chef is a master artist and craftsman and what he creates is a feast for the eyes and your taste buds.  Everything here is simply on another level.  Some places construct beautiful food that tastes okay and others have amazing flavors with okay aesthetics, but at SHIORI, each plate is a work of art and has a flavor profile that is balanced and cohesive.  Like some of you, we have been to many Omakase places (all over the world) and SHIORI is one of the best. Each course is a work of art.  So well thought out and refined.  There is beauty in the construction, color and structure.  Then the taste is equally balanced and harmonious.  Decor is simple yet elegant with no unnecessary clutter to take away from the feast.  The staff are young but show a level of enthusiasm and excitement that is contagious. There is craftsmanship and mastery on another level.  We were in Berlin for the week and visited several Michelin rated restaurants.  SHIORI blew them away.   This is a must try place!

Wow. Immaculate. Level of detail, attention, the quantity - you simply cannot possibly leave here feeling hungry or disappointed. Ambience was great too -loved the music playlist as well. What a treat this place is and what a lovely team!

Blessed to have been part of this special evening with Shiori. Sitting in this warm, intimate space, I let myself go and thoroughly enjoyed the chefs’ guidance in rhythm. As the story unfolded course by course, the flavors were fleeting yet unforgettable. Every bite and touch to the culinary crafts felt like a decelerator to my interpretation of time. There was not a single extra move as the chefs precisely and swiftly presented each dish. At a point, I vaguely felt like I had become part of a great painting in this little quiet alley in Berlin. What a treat it was, and how lucky I was to be one of this evening's ten guests during my short escape to Europe. Thank you all again.

Google
Book well in advance. Service and atmosphere were impeccable. Quality of the various dishes served was superb, pulling in new and unexpected flavors. Highly recommend the sake (or non-alcoholic) pairings as they enhance the meal significantly. You’re missing a major part of the flavor profile without them, which isn’t always the case with pairings. While the price may seem steep, it matches the quality of the ingredients and certainly the level of showmanship and service excellence.

We had a truly wonderful evening at Shiori. The kaiseki menu was superb, each course beautifully prepared, and the drink pairings complemented the progression of dishes perfectly. The staff also offered thoughtful guidance that helped us appreciate the menu even more. The only slight drawback was that one of the guests nearby was wearing a very strong perfume, noticeable even from several seats away. While I understand this isn’t the staff’s responsibility, I was a bit surprised that such strong fragrances aren’t addressed in the restaurant’s policies, as it did detract somewhat from the overall ambience. That said, I would be more than happy to return. I’m confident this was an isolated circumstance and not reflective of the usual experience.

Great service and stunning food experience. Booked here last minute while on a business trip to Berlin. The omakase menu is in some way authentic, however, tailored for Europeans with perhaps a greater complexity than you normally get in Japan. Every meal is an artwork in presentation and taste combinations. The sake tasting menu is carefully put together and highly recommended instead of wine. Being a Japanese food lover, I would perhaps like to see even more nigiri throughout the meal However, German fish quality may not allow it. Overall a 5 rating of food and service! Some people comment that the prices are high here They are not. This is a truly premium restaurant and prices are actually not high compared to similar experiences in other European cities. The only place this type of meal is cheaper is in Japan. Buckle up for true artwork of a food experience - highly recommend this place!

Google
We had a wonderful evening here with a 15-course omakase, each dish prepared to be a perfect small piece of art to eat. The recommended beverages (sake and alcohol free options) were complementing the flavour of the dishes very well and overall pleasant to drink. Definitely recommended when in Berlin!

Yelp
I made a reservation a few days beforehand, and upon arriving I struggled a bit with finding the exact location. Once you arrive at the building, you have to walk upstairs to check in. The interior of the restaurant is simplistic but also grounded in woody/home-y vibes, which makes it welcoming. Not to be dramatic but I had some of the best sashimi ever here (otoro, chutoro, akami and yellowtail - even though I don't normally like yellowtail). The dishes were carefully assembled and plated, and the servers were very attentive the entire meal. Some dishes stood out more than others, and the ones that were most memorable, I've attached pictures of. I can't remember exactly what was in the dish but the one in the blue bowl included eggplant and changed flavors as I ate it, which was a nice, unexpected surprise. At the end of the meal, the owner chatted with every group to gauge everyone's experiences and feedbacks. Overall, a nice first kaiseki experience.

Yelp
It was closed! Very disapointing. Went there with yelp recommendation. This makes two places in a row closed durung listed opening hours. Will not use yelp again.

Yelp
Can't recommend this place enough! While the price has gone up since the first time I came, the careful preparation of the menu and the fresh ingredients is an experience you have to try for yourself. The plates seem small but they add up and you won't leave hungry. I have to say I was a little disappointed that after a year and a half, I returned to find the menu to be largely the same. None the less worth it and a must eat in Berlin.

Yelp
Beautifully curated space and menu. I came here with my boyfriend to enjoy on our last night in Berlin before heading home to NY and we had an amazing time. We had I believe 10 courses, omakase style-google that if you don't know what that means. The chef and server were both very nice, thoroughly explaining what you were eating. The presentation was so beautiful, the food felt like art. Make sure to make reservations in advance! This would be a good spot for a special date night or birthday. I would love to come back next time I'm in Berlin.

Yelp
It was a really unique and amazing dining experience. Everything from the entrees to the ceramics to the ambience was thoroughly thought out. The dishes were simple, yet rich in flavor. You can tell they put in a lot of effort into all the details. I highly recommend it!

Yelp
Deutsch (for English see below): Erst nach dem 2. English: I believe that only with a second and consistent visit it is worth writing a review, especially if the overall experience has been as great as at Shiori. Being in love with Japan and its cuisine, Shiori is in my opinion the first restaurant that offers true Japanese hospitality, service and outstanding food shown in their Omakase menu (chef's recommendation and choice throughout an eight course dinner). I have visited in September and October, menu changes per month, they kept 2 courses out if 8 which was absolutely fine, rest was new and as great as during the first visit. Amongst others they served an egg dish, a soup, a vegetable course, sashimi, cooked fish, dessert. On top I had fantastic sake and green tea, but you can also choose from beer, wine, juice, water, etc. Price is definitely for Berlin on the higher end, but for what you get absolutely worth it. The alcoholic beverages I feel are slightly overpriced. When making your reservation you can mention if there are certain things that you do not like or are not allowed to eat and it will be incorporated. So far, for me, this is the best Japanese restaurant in Berlin.

Yelp
Wonderfully curated Japanese omakase that is truly a unique and special experience! Food is very high quality and every single detail has been though of. Very reasonable pricing for what you get and you will definitely leave feeling full! I am so happy I came here! Chef Shiori is very creative, innovative, but true to the essence of Japanese cuisine! Definitely give it a try as a treat to yourself or a loved one!

Yelp
Absolutely AMAZING! I am still sitting here as I'm typing this, needed to get on my phone ASAP to let the world know how great this is. Everything was well-paired and the owners make sure everyone is having a great experience. There are so many different flavors in each course that make every bite exciting! I absolutely recommend coming here if you're looking for an authentic Japanese experience in the middle of Berlin!

Yelp
The most amazing Japanese dining experience. So personal, and the attention to detail is simply superb. Every dish was perfectly balanced, and made from the freshest ingredients. The restaurant is beautifully decorated, and all the small touches help create the most wondering atmosphere. Just divine. By far, the best Japanese restaurant in Berlin, if not one of the best restaurants in general. If you are visiting Berlin, this is not to be missed.
