The Best Dive Bars in Portland, Oregon | Eater Portland

"One of several nautically themed entries on this list, the Ship Ahoy on Gladstone has the battered charm of a reliable old trawler that doesn’t know how to sink. The bar is densely packed with knickknacks, improvised shelving, and an impressively sized card table with a modest patio and the usual barroom entertainments like pool and pinball. Food is of the “we can heat up a Totino’s for you but we’d rather not” school, but if grog is what you’re after and Gladstone is what you’re on, the Ship Ahoy can oblige." - Ben Coleman

Always a nice time at the Ship Ahoy. Great bar staff, got a cool hoodie, but best of all, the ladies' restroom is surprisingly very clean. The vibes are good and always make my way back on a whim. 💗

This is a very humble environment. We come here for the drinks, not the ambiance. This place gives excellent pours. This is your bar if you want cheap drinks and good pours! They also have pinball, video poker, a pool table, and outdoor seating.

Lindsay, Lindsay, Lindsay! Best BT! This is a great dive! Very few exist any more that are this cool. 4 pinball machines, one pool table. Awesome people hanging out drinking beer, etc. I highly recommend this dive.

Ships Ahoy Tavern is an incredible gem nestled in the heart of Portland, and it's undoubtedly a hidden treasure worth discovering. From the moment you step foot inside, you're transported to a world of deep dark diving fields, a captivating atmosphere that sets the stage for an unforgettable experience. The tavern's charm lies in its authenticity. The moment you walk through the creaky wooden door, you're greeted with warm smiles and hearty hellos from the friendly regulars who all hail from the neighborhood. It's a place where everyone knows your name, and if they don't yet, they soon will. The sense of community at Ships Ahoy is unparalleled, making it one of Portland's last remaining pillars of hope for genuine connections and camaraderie. The ambiance exudes an air of nostalgia, with vintage nautical décor adorning the walls, reminding patrons of the maritime history that shaped the city. The dim lighting casts enchanting shadows, adding to the allure of the tavern's deep, mysterious allure. Whether you're seeking a relaxed evening with friends or a solo adventure, Ships Ahoy caters to all, making it a versatile destination for any occasion. Now, let's talk about the drinks. Ah, the drinks! Ships Ahoy boasts an impressive selection of libations that will satisfy every palate. From classic cocktails to craft beers and delightful wine choices, there's something for everyone. But what sets this tavern apart is the affordable pricing. The cheap drinks don't compromise on quality, ensuring you can enjoy a night out without breaking the bank. As the night progresses, live music fills the air, elevating the atmosphere to new heights. Local talents grace the stage, serenading the crowd with soulful melodies that create a lively and spirited energy within the tavern's walls. It's the perfect harmony of good music and good company that makes for an unforgettable night. The service at Ships Ahoy is nothing short of exceptional. The staff members are not only attentive but also genuinely passionate about their craft. Their friendly demeanor and attentive nature add another layer of comfort to the whole experience, making you feel right at home from the moment you sit down. In conclusion, Ships Ahoy Tavern is a beacon of authenticity in a world that often seems too fast-paced and detached. With its deep dark diving field, fantastic drinks, and a community of welcoming folks, it remains a testament to the soul of Portland. So, the next time you find yourself in the city, venture off the beaten path and let Ships Ahoy Tavern be your guiding light towards an extraordinary night out.

Google
Its a quintessential, perfectedly operated wonderful local bar. Good crowd, best bartenders. Its rare to find people as kind and good at what they do like the people who work in this bar. 😊 12/10 would rate again

Google
Great bartenders and strong drinks. This place reminds me of bars on Cape Cod in Massachusetts.

Google
Great neighborhood bar. Pinball and a pool table. Good selection of beers and liquors. Great music on the stereo. Outdoor seating rain or shine. Chill vibe. Happy hours and drink specials everyday of the week. What more could you ask for from a local spot?

Yelp
Used to be our go-to dive before we moved. Stopped in tonight and the team was friendly, the people were eccentric and the drinks were strong. Classic dive with PBR and Coors Light on tap, what more could you want? It doesn't smell as bad as I remember it and overall it was pretty clean. Gone are the days of dollar tall boy Thursdays, but they do have daily drink specials. Worth checking out and sparking up conversation with the regulars.

Yelp
Hanging late night at the ship. Great little dive bar. The bartender Mary was perfect. Attentive when needed. Leave me alone when needed. Good times. Glad I stoped in.

Yelp
Classic dive. Friendly folks. Great patio (though no heat). Wifi and they don't care if you work. Phone chargers on the bar are a nice touch. Food cart connected and they're happy with anyone bringing food in from any nearby establishment. Free pool 6-midnight everyday. Pinball. Several TVs. Always people at the bar if you wanna chat, but also plenty of tables around if you wanna chill.

Yelp
It's a shithole yes, but the drinks are strong. Unfortunately it has gone downhill (as if that's possible) since "new" management took over. Enjoy that pot pie! Gross.

Yelp
Great spot to meet some friends for drinks and play pool or just sit back and chat. They didn't mind us ordering some food from DoorDash. Overall what you'd expect from a dive. No complaints

Yelp
Always great! This place has been a neighborhood mainstay for years and I couldn't be happier about it.

Yelp
I just walked two miles between work and getting here. Refused service, their call, looking forward to the final half mile home. Portland has such GREAT public transit!!!

Yelp
I came here on a whim to see a friend after a show. It was one of the only places close to both of us that was still open. I was hungry when I got there, but they warned me basically all their food was microwaved. They were straight up about it so I didn't mind and picked something simple, but it's not a place I'd recommend if you're looking for "real" food, but it's not bad if you've already been drinking all night and will eat just about anything. I liked the vibe and the bartender we had was friendly. I can see why my friend likes to come here often and it seemed as though almost everyone already knew each other, which I like. It was really a perfect place for that night, especially since I was there mainly to catch up with a friend. I could see myself coming back :)

Yelp
A good neighbored bar for the bar regular or young folk looking for a good dive in the neighborhood. Justin has been my best bartender so far, great service and it's nice it to see him hustle, if he's on you then you will be taken care of. Smoking patio is open most of the night but if youre here past 1AM you may be SOL. No blame on them though, we all know staffing isn't adequate these days. Regardless they have great staff and a good time is be had here solo or as a group.

Yelp
I've been coming to this place for years and years. This whole time I thought it was a strip club but it was just Betty page on the screen anyways the women are wild five stars the beer is kind of warm but it's because it just sits in front of me while I sleep one star for me at five stars for any Bettie page dancing overall great experience! Blade pours a chill Mai tai

Yelp
We love it. This was a token of a place prior to COVID and now it's even better (for what we are working with). If you love a dive bar, you will love this spot. They have seating on the sidewalk out front with small umbrellas for covering but no heaters. Benefits? You can smoke and have your pups. The side/back is covered with a tent and has two heaters that really heat up the place. They have about 6 tables in the back that are distanced from each other AND a TV that is usually playing a sporting event if there is one one otherwise maybe the history channel. I've felt safe coming here unless all the tables are full then it starts to get a little cramped but overall, I love the space. You can't smoke or have your pups back here though. The drinks are always a good pour. Bartenders are always kind. They also have a pretty fun food menu that includes what I would consider bowling alley food which sometimes we just need. Example: totinos pizza!!!!! What a blast from the past and exactly what a dive bar should have. They have hand sanitizer throughout and feels as safe/clean as it can be.

Yelp
The best worst bar in my neighborhood. They have everything you want a dive bar to have: games, insanely cheap booze, and a laid back atmosphere. My favorite thing is to get my food across the street and play some pinball, then come here to actually drink like I mean it.
google avatar

Yelp
Friendly bar near my recent Portland Airbnb. Chilled out staff and environment. Good food and drink on offer - great juke box. Exactly would a good locals bar should be.

Yelp
Neighborhood bar that's comfortable, chill and fun. Everyone seems to be so friendly and knows one another. Beers are cheap and it is stocked with arcade games and 1 pool table at the corner where it doesn't seem to have space to even play with, but it can be done! Parking is plentiful as it is in a residential corner. Across the street are a few restaurants. Cool chill place to grab a beer!

Yelp
Fun place to pregame and people watch outside. Strong and inexpensive drinks, including Jell-O shots! I never spend much longer than an hour or so here as this is usually a starting off place before heading downtown. The mixed drinks aren't stellar so I would recommend beer or shots. They have a few arcade games, a pool table, and video poker. Nice tables outside to drink and people watch. All in all a good neighborhood dive bar.

Yelp
Me and my girlfriend have been coming to this place for years now, it is our neighborhood bar. And on this particular night (3/9/2022 - Wednesday) and we asked for our typical drinks AND each had ONLY one drink. The bartenders know us really well; But this one specific woman (glasses, don't know her name) made me and my girlfriend feel very uncomfortable and unwelcomed, so we didn't not tip, AND then she had the audacity after I told her to have a great night, to say, "but you didn't tip?" Like is that requirement nowadays to tip someone ? Like what if I didn't have enough to tip you but just for my drinks, lady you are getting paid by the hour. You don't not EXPECT tips, if it comes be grateful, so me and my girl felt very disrespected by the fact that she EXPECTED, and publicly asked me for a tip, when we felt unwelcomed to begin with. Great bar, but all I'm saying is this specific bartender you guys needs to fire, or tell her to get her stuff together because me and my girlfriend will no longer go there, and I know it doesn't matter to your business about just two people, but just know everyone we know will hear about how that bartender that night treated us and ultimately you just lost two loyal customers as well as any future customers we may know. I typically don't waste my time with reviews and I tip very well, but this literally flabbergasted me. I was appalled. Hope the owner/manager/whatever reads this, and at least talks to her, don't fire the girl she may really need this job, but tell her to no longer ask customers for extra money AKA "tips" after they've fully paid their balance. Have a wonderful night, may or may not see you guys again.

Yelp
Brilliantly Brusque! After a classy dinner with across the street with two old friends from school it was time to keep the stories and the jokes going, so back across the street to the Ship Ahoy we were sailing away! This is everything you want in a neighborhood dive bar that's every bit as local, honest, and unassuming as you can get. Jukebox, cheap beers.....even some microbrews! The real deal for us was that after dropping hard earned cash on nice tequila we couldn't wait to have some $2 tallboys of Ranier. I mean who has Ranier beer anymore, it was awesome!!!! It's pretty old and slightly musky inside. It's loud, but they've got good tv's, a pool table, and a credible back bar full of goodness without gauging people's wallets. There's a lot of haters out there for these types of places, but that just means the yuppies stay away and the real peeps of PDX get to enjoy a good local neighborhood bar without all the riff raff looking for a Portlandia experience, and the staff is smart enough to rudely cast these types out. You might say it's quality riff raff here!!!! If you're shipping out for the evening........make it Ship Ahoy!

Yelp
OH MY GOD WAS THE BARTENDER RUDE TO YOU??!! Look I don't know how to tell you this but not everyone is going to kiss your ass all the time. This is a local neighborhood bar. It's meant for me and the other people who live here. The bartenders work their ever-loving ass off serving cheap beer to my neighbors because they know where their bread is buttered. I'd tell you there will come a time when the bartenders will not only be friendly they'll have your drink ready before you ask, but it would probably get your knickers in a bunch so I won't do that. But I will say again just in case your easily angered and stupid too, it's a neighborhood bar. It's there to serve booze when it's 100 degrees and we got nowhere else to go. It banks on us wandering over for cheap beer and a neighborly talk. If you don't know Andy, Steve, George and a few others I'd name but they might kill me. Well then....you're still totally welcome to come on over. But have the good common sense evolution should have given you and try to realize you're the stranger. You're the one who is new and (this is important pay attention) It's not always all about you! Whooo crazy thought, right?! You'll be respected by everyone including the bartenders when YOU EARN IT. Until then enjoy the cheap beer, try to be friendly to the locals and be humble enough to acknowledge you are irrelevant until you prove yourself to be otherwise. But more importantly and one should never forget. When taking pictures stay in the car. The locals may seem big and ponderous, but they can move quickly when angered and someone could get hurt. It breaks my heart when a tourist is carried out in a bag because they didn't respect the local. See! some of the locals are funny as hell (In case you haven't figured it out I'm one of the locals)! Unless you anger me and give crappy reviews to my cherished Ship Ahoy. Don't do it....just don't. I do CrossFit which means I can still move quickly even when drunk (functional fitness y'all!)....You've been warned.

Yelp
I thought it was cool that there were willing to put together a drink special for a friend's birthday party.

Yelp
I had visited this dive bar a couple of time prior to my last visit. It will forever be my last visit. I walk up to the bar to close out my tab. The bartender is so busy talking about the song playing... " I don't like Meatloaf but I love this song" as she is ignoring me and prancing around.. *sigh* So, she finally begins my close-out process.. she says, " Julie, right?" I say no my name is Kristine. She then jets outside and runs across the street. WTF? She comes back in and informs me that she gave my card to someone else. WHAT!?!? Are you fucking kidding me? So, I write down my phone number and request I be called if the other person holding my card shows up to retrieve hers. Luckily I was just a block down the street when I get the phone call that my card has arrived. I show up with my friend and the bartender informs me that the girl showed up but had misplaced my card and went to look for it. *SIGH* So, I ask if my friend and I can have a shot of tequila while we wait. She annoyingly said, "s u r e". I wanted to grab her head by her hair and slam it into the bar. So, I finally get my card back but now have to deal with getting a new card and transferring all my auto payments and all that shit... Because who knows if this other girl who had my card wrote down my number...seriously, a headache for a full-time student who works 2 jobs. Thank you bartender for being unobservant and preoccupied by Meatloaf. You suck!

Yelp
Friendly neighborhood bar. Nice people and good service. A variety of beers on tap. Slots, pool table, pinball machine and video games if that's your thing.

Yelp
Worst service you will ever receive. But only on a Saturday or Sunday night. Anna is rude, slow, mean, and indifferent. How is she the manager? The other bartenders are so much better, they are actually friendly and helpful. I have had a bad experience with her every time that she has been behind the bar. Here was the latest one: I walked into Ship Ahoy and sat down at the bar. She glared while my friend and I chatted, wondering if she would come over to us or not. Finally we moved over to the well to order. Anna still ignored us while she finished her conversation with some guy at the bar. Then when she finally came over to inquire if I wanted a drink she had nothing but attitude. She was condescending and out right rude to me. My friend asked me to order for her because she did not want to deal with the horrible bartender. After I ordered, Anna lingered around chatting and opening beers for other people before starting our drinks. I like this bar, but it's not worth it if Anna is bartending, you will end up being ignored and insulted.

Yelp
Just because I drunkenly stumbled into this bar at 1:30 am on a Wednesday does not make this review less valid. My first thought was: "Cozy and dark!" My second thought was: "I need a beermosa!" (You know, a brass monkey.) A big L-shaped bar is center stage at the Ship Ahoy. Sit right in the middle and feel like a star. There was an eclectic blend of old and young alike, although I was disappointed by the digital jukebox. Digital jukeboxes make my soul cry. The bartender was a gruff old gentlemen who threw us out at 2:35 on the dot. Also he politely mopped up the full beer my friend spilled all over the bar. Didn't get a chance to play Big Buck Hunter Pro, but I heard it calling my name. When I get to be older/more wrinkled/wizened/cynical, I will definitely be a regular at Ship Ahoy.

Yelp
3.5 star dive bar. Fortunately, I round up. This interesting little local dive is located in the middle of a neighborhood in SE PDX, about 3 blocks south of Hopworks Brewery. The crowd is one of two groups of people: friendly blue collar locals and curious young hipsters. From about 3pm to 9pm, the local blue collar regulars drop in to that place where everybody knows their name before heading home from work. Those fortunate enough to come to the bar early will discover a friendly, tight knit group that is happy to share an empty seat at their table with a stranger or, if you're really lucky, maybe even buy that stranger a drink. After 9pm the crowd shifts to the younger and hipster-er, which of course is little different from most Portland bars. Happy hour is until 6:30pm and is $0.50 off all drafts and also includes cheap PBR and/or cheap Hamms. The bartenders are friendly, jovial, pour well, and earn their tips. All in all, this is a good little no frills neighborhood dive bar that is a good place for the uninitiated to see the "real" Portland, while they still can. If C Bar across the street is a little too posh for your taste, be sure to stop by.

Yelp
Ship Ahoy. Oh, ship ship ship ahoy. I've laughed. I've cried. I've puked in the bathroom. I've fallen off picnic benches, been growled at by dogs, been day-drunk, night-drunk, afternoon-drunk and all the drunks in between at this, my ((once)) neighborhood bar. I know the bartenders by name, I love them. I love that they refill me first before non-regulars. It gives me a fuzzy warm feeling that I belong. Anytime I'm back in the neighborhood, i'll step in to smell the familiar pungency of urinal cakes. Brings back memories of one of the best summers of my life. I don't party like I used to, which is why they look taken aback when I leave after just two glasses of white wine. I remember once going in at 6pm with some friends, and Anna saying "It's...making me anxious that you guys are here so early." I hope this place stays the same forever. It's a neighborhood dive, if you don't like it, go to Cbar. But I love it.
google avatar

Salena C.

Yelp
Dogs allowed at the bar. I'm positive this includes all dogs as I'm looking at a dog who was left at the bar while owner is playing video poker. Food: Pre packaged chips Drinks: Strong Atmosphere: Divey, friendly and unassuming.

Yelp
Bride of Pinbot how I love shooting my balls in you mouth. Ship Ahoy has a powerhouse selection of pinball. They have one of my very favorites The Machine Bride of Pinbot. Also they have Monster Bash, Twilight Zone and Attack from Mars. The workers might have to bust out the jaws of life to help remove my death grip on these machines, really is it 2:00 already? Nooooo just one more!!
google avatar

Olivia T.

Yelp
I like fancy bars, but I fancy dive bars. At Ship Ahoy, if you had $3 you can get a serving of Vodka 7. Play the jukebox at your own risk, It will tell you, 50 cents will buy you a song... When I put a dollar in, I only got one song. Cheap drink, spendy juke. We can't always have everything :).
google avatar

Yelp
This venue is the definition of what a neighborhood bar should be. Welcoming to everyone, good beer selection, wonderful pinball games to choose from, and some of the best bartenders you'll ever meet. The crowd is always warm and responsive, inviting conversation with the kind of ease that only a "neighborhood" bar could give. For many, it is home away from home. A place to get a cold glass of beer and a ear to lean on after a hard day at work. The night bartenders, Anna, Justin and Mike seem to have a innate ability to have a full glass for you as soon as you set your empty glass on the bar. The Ship may not have the best selection of in-house food, but that can be forgiven. The C Bar across the street has some of the best food in the neighborhood, and provides a menu for patrons of the Ship to order off of (with prompt delivery to the Ship). This truly has to be my favorite bar on Gladstone!
google avatar

Diana M.

Yelp
It was the last stop on our dive bar tour of Portland and you filled the bill. Cheap-o PBR tall boys, pistachios for a quarter, decent music playing, good friends, you had it all. Thank you Ship Ahoy! PS: What was up with the bartendress wearing a mustache? Odd, yet not really.
google avatar

Yelp
Great local dive bar with standard dive bar fare. Not a ton of food available but they let you bring in outside food. Drinks are cheap and strong, staff is fun and friendly. If they had better/more food and didn't have tv's playing I'd rate them 5 instead of 4 stars. At least they have the sound down off on the TVs and just have the jukebox playing.
google avatar

Yelp
This is my favorite SE Portland dive bar Monday through Thursday. Thursday nights, especially, thanks to the $1 Oly tall cans and the badass bartender Justyn. I go across the street on the weekends because the bartender here those nights gives the place a whole different (ahem) vibe. It's a little dark and dirty, and the stools are usually occupied by the regulars; just as a dive bar should be. There is pool, pinball, and that Big Game Hunter that people seem to love so much. Most of all, it's just comfortable. The Jukebox is decent (though with the ability to choose just about any song on the planet, sometimes you'll get stuck with bad 80's pop for hours at a time). Outdoor seating and drinking (until 10pm) is limited, but accessible.
google avatar

Chad H.

Yelp
This isn't the best bar in the world, but it is a great place to go in the neighborhood, and I enjoy the places near by. it's surrounded by a wonderful community and I enjoy it the most because I can walk home from here. I don't like their food. I wish they had more to offer. Still a fairly good place to go and enjoy the people.
google avatar

Dan H.

Yelp
Love this place! Cheap drinks, cheap tacos (during Monday night football), and cheap women(jk)! How can you go wrong? I recommend hanging out for long periods of time! Especially in liars corner. Yeah it might smell like a urinal cake, but the tall tales are epic! All the bartenders are fuckin great! Mike, Justin, Micah, Peter, and of course Anna. Everyone of them are awesome! Just don't be a dumb ass or a douche bag and you'll have a great time. They have a nice pool table, lottery machines, and pinball. And they have the best buck hunter I've ever seen. The locals are friendly and accepting even if you're from out of town. There are tables outside so you can still enjoy your drink while you smoke before 10pm. Try this place out. It could be your own little dive bar! :)
google avatar

Lauren B.

Yelp
It's divey, it's bar..ey, it's close to home. What else could I ask for? Oh, that's right: Bartenders who remember your drink after your first visit. Bathrooms with real doors on them. Video poker, for those who enjoy that type of thing. Outdoor picnic tables that can hold up your beer/booze for you until 10p.m. (Smoking and drinking simultaneously is becoming harder to find around here) Take-away beer license. You think you're too drunk to make it down to the 7/11? Just buy a sixer of tall boys and stumble your way home! This place pretty much rules. Just don't tell everybody else. It gets crowded enough as is. :) Bonus: The C-Bar across the street is a magnet for dive-bar tourists. There's nothing oh-so-cool about the Ship's clientele. It's just a straight-up B-A-R bar.

Yelp
This neighborhood Joint has a great staff, good values, good selection and is my fave gladstone bar by a long shot Pball galore, a daily dice game AND they sell beers togo. f yeah
google avatar

Anna K.

Yelp
Great neighborhood bar, bartenders are actually nice and quick, drinks are stiff and always good random conversations at the bar. Good prices, pool, pinball and music and way cheaper drinks than Cbar.
google avatar

Megan S.

Yelp
OK. Can we just #realtalk for a sec? This is less about the food, drinks, atmosphere, whatever. Take a look around the bar and it's all locals, out for a cheap easy beer, with no frills. They've got games. They've got tables for groups. They've got outside tables for smokers. I mean, I don't know how much more in-depth I can get because this place does one thing, and it does it well: drinks. Go get some.
google avatar

Tanna P.

Yelp
I started going here while I was waiting for a table at Yoko's but now I go often just to go here! They have strong drinks and buck hunter! They have picnic tables outside but then again that's where the smokers are so it's hard to enjoy my drink in a nonsmoking environment. I have always had a good experience here with the staff and good prices. There has been a time or two where I wonder where the hell I am because of the obnoxious people that walk by and want to talk. But I will keep coming back because I like the ambiance inside and the bartenders have always been pretty cool.
google avatar

Brian A.

Yelp
This place has everything you could ever want in a dive bar...super cheap drinks, very friendly staff, an electronic jukebox, a pool table, lottery machines ,and Buck Hunter. I mean, c'mon. Buck Hunter. A really good place to begin or end the night.

Yelp
There are plenty of dive bars in this town to go to. This one is kind of out of the way for me, but I still sometimes prefer to go out of my way to patronize this one. For three reasons. 1.Price: They have great specials, and a generally low price range in comparison with most of Portland drinking establishments. 2. Other people: It's got an interesting character to it, I indulge of the guilty pleasure of people watching when I am here. 3. Atmosphere: It has more of a down home feel, it's the kind of place you can just chill in for a really long time and not buy a obscene amount of drinks and still not feel like you're overstaying your welcome. I wish this place was in my neighborhood so I could go more often.

Yelp
Pool table's in better shape than it looks. Gets super crowded weekend nights. One of the most notable dive bars in Portland; right up there with Mad Hanna's. Tell no one.

Yelp
It's a bar, they have beer and liquor at reasonable prices. There is usually a spot to sit at the bar. The bartenders are friendly and efficient. What more do you want out of a bar?

Yelp
I am a huge fan of ship. It's a cutty bar but feels like a home base... if that makes any sense. Drinks are cheap and they come smooth! Plus, you can always catch a game there, play big buck hunter HD, and listen to some wacky tunes on the jukebox. I always enjoy my time at the ship.

Yelp
This was my bar when I lived close. Nice neighborhood watering hole and the regulars are pretty friendly. The Reedies like to come here when they feel like slumming though, but they are nice enough by Portland standards. The drinks are decently priced (cheap, but not the cheapest), but their pours could be a little stronger IMO. They have a pool table, pinball machines, video poker, and a decent digital jukebox. The service is usually decent but I get the feeling that everyone who works there (in the PM) would rather be doing something else.

Yelp
Obviously I can't give Ship Ahoy a five star review and keep a straight face. In fact it probably deserves less then four stars.... the food isn't great, it is certainly far from the cleanest...... but damn if it isn't one of my favorite spots. The servers are good, they can be a bit snarky, god only knows if they make a good mixed drink because all I ever get is whiskey and sodas or olympia tall boys..... What makes this place so great then? Its dirt cheap to come in and get a drink. The crowd is different all the time and around 11:30pm I have had some great conversations with complete strangers, old men, and drunk girls. Once, I even have seen a drunk guy playing the pistachio machine like it was slot machine..... BTW, if you want food, walk across the street to cbar and place your order. But make sure you do your drinking at Ship Ahoy.

Yelp
A cool, little neighborhood dive bar. The drinks are cheap, though not that great. And they have $1 Jello shots. They also have a pool table, pinball, video poker, a jukebox and TVs. Not a bad little bar.
