Two More Shake Shacks Are Coming to Denver | Eater Denver

"At Red Rocks, I report that the Ship Rock Grille will host a series of pop-up food events featuring local chefs this concert season, with restaurateur Frank Bonanno as the first pop-up; other new offerings headed to Red Rocks include Biker Jim’s hot dogs and Rolling Smoke barbecue, and those stalls will be permanent fixtures at least for this year alongside planned fries, funnel cakes, and chicken tenders." - Josie Sexton

3 of us traveling on a road trip stopped for lunch and to check out the venue. We sat outside on a beautiful day. Service was great quick, nice, and friendly. Food was fresh and tasty - not bad for the price. Pomme Frites appetizer was delicious. Crispy goat cheese salad with shrimp was wonderful, fresh and flavorful (grilled shrimp were chilled). Mushroom flatbread was really good - on more of a garlic bread crust than flatbread. Duck Carnitas Tostada was really good and different

I’ve been wanting to try this place for years, and I finally made it out with a friend and wow, it did not disappoint! From the moment we arrived, everything felt special. The location is tucked away just enough to feel like an escape, yet it's not too far from town. Surrounded by nature, we sat in the shade enjoying beautiful views that made us feel completely at ease. The food is absolutely delicious. Every bite was better than the last. And the cocktails… incredible. Creative, refreshing, and such a wide variety to choose from! Our server was sweet, attentive, and gave great recommendations plus, we ended up having one of the best conversations in that warm, inviting atmosphere. I’m already looking forward to going back! ✨🍃🍸🍴

Check your credit card statement. Charges added after signing for total. When contacted they refunded ...and explained that it was my fault HA! We left cash tip and they took the liberty of adding 20 percent on top of the 20 percent that waitress was handed in cash. Beautiful venue food was good.

Google
The dining experience here is next to none. It gives you a fine dining menu in a gorgeous venue. We had a reservation on a show day for brunch so we were sat immediately on the patio, though it appeared walk-ins had the same quick seating experience. There were two main vegetarian/vegan options on the summer menu including Pomme Frites for an appetizer and Pan Seared Gnocchi for an entree which we ordered. Both were amazing, but the gnocchi stood out especially. It was the best dish I think I have ever had, and was delivered with extremely quick service and at an extremely reasonable price. We also ordered the Smores Bred Pudding which was an incredible dessert. I would wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting the Denver area.

Google
The outdoor atmosphere is so amazing and one of a kind. We came on a Saturday afternoon an hour before closing at 1:30pm and we were sat right away. All of the staff were very friendly and attentive. Our server was Rachel and she was wonderful and patient. As a person who has worked in the service industry for 18 year's I could tell how well the staff works together and just helps eachother out and that alone was wonderful and if you know, it was noticeable (great job staff). The food was so good and came out fast. If you have children I highly suggest the ice cream cake as it is shaped like the red rocks. Everything tasted great, the prices were mostly under $20 buck's and that's impressive considering it's next to the venue.

Google
Amazing restaurant at Red Rocks! So glad we came back a few days after our concert to check this place out at lunchtime. Everything was delicious but the sausage sampler was my fave. Aiden was really busy with tables in & outside but he took great care of us! He was very knowledgeable about the menu and accommodating to all of our questions. Will def be back next time we are at Red Rocks! (I didn't get the hostess's name but she was also very polite and friendly).

Braun M.

Google
Great experience before concert at Red Rocks! Server was fantastic and so very personable. Food was delicious. Ambiance was great (we sat outdoors). Really made for a great night and look forward to returning!

Michelle C.

Google
I had the Pan-Seared Gnocchi—absolutely delicious, with flavors that burst in your mouth. The Spicy Mezcalita was a perfect twist on a margarita—spicy with a smoky kick. Our bartender, Chelsea, offered fantastic suggestions, and everything I ordered was spot-on. She was also incredibly attentive, making the experience even better.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious food! With wonderful scenery at a beautiful location. The Autumn Gnocchi was vegan and GF and honestly some of the best gnocchi I've had. The texture was mindblowing and the butternut squash gave it the perfect amount of sweetness. The fries had an aioli that made it super addicting and dangerous. Servers were terrific. Super nice to us, and even accommodated our furbabies (though probably because it was a slower day, don't think dogs are normally allowed on busy days). The amphitheater is nice and the rocks are stunning, but this restaurant had no business being as good as it was. What a find!
google avatar

Kellie F.

Yelp
Our first time to the amphitheater and we were able to snag this killer view table before our show. We were able to watch the sun go down while enjoying a great meal. It was pretty cool to have such good food at a concert venue. We ordered 4 meals, an app and 4 drinks for under $100. Can't beat it. Our waiter was great, made good recs and always was attentive. Our food was great. I'd highly recommend the chili and lobster roll. The roll was so refreshing. The duck carnitas are very heavy and rich, so I'd recommend sharing those. They open for reservations prior to shows, or walk ins when the doors open to the venue. You can also stop in for lunch any day of the week.
google avatar

Ryli C.

Yelp
Such a cool spot! I'm glad we got to experience it without the rush of people during a concert. Went here to walk around red rocks and ended our hike with lunch out on their patio. Incredible views while enjoying a fat tire beer on draft and the duck carnitas tostada. Would love to come again when we're back in town!
google avatar

Billie B.

Yelp
Seriously loved this spot! Such a fun experience and the food was delicious! Kara was our waitress and she was sweet and attentive. Highly recommend especially if you are visiting!
google avatar

Richard R.

Yelp
Well worth the price and to be honest, it wasn't that expensive. We even got in early and preferred parking since we made reservations. The cost was $75 to make the reservation but the fee goes towards food and drink, so well worth the price. We got the smash burgers, the chili cheese fries and a salad and some drinks and it was well with the price. Again, we got in early the venue before the rest of the crowds.
google avatar

Bri V.

Yelp
We decided to have lunch here on a whim while enjoying the amphitheater and we enjoyed our visit. We sat outside where there was a nice view of the mountain and a nice breeze. The prices were not crazy considering the location. Husband and I each got the chicken sandwich and it was $18. We both really enjoyed it. The chicken had a great flavor and we both really enjoyed the pickles. The service was a bit slow. I had asked for ketchup while ordering and the food came with no ketchup. It was a while before the server came back and I had to ask again.
google avatar

J Warren R.

Yelp
Pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food and service. I am sure you know that to visit the Ship Rock Grille you must have a Red Rocks concert ticket for that evening, restaurant is located within the security perimeter. For my group this was an excellent way to start the show. The menu is not lengthy and includes some fairly standard fare. Burgers, French fries, Tostados = comfort food. Fairly good bar and cocktail selection. Service was friendly and relatively quick. You will also need a reservation to get in.
google avatar

Jessica M.

Yelp
The first thing we have to talk about... the view....wow there are not enough words for the outdoor seating. We had a rocks burger and fries, both items were very good. We went a few hours before a show, we didn't have to wait and the service was quick.
google avatar

Vinny V.

Yelp
Came to a great concert at Red Rocks and it was fantastic to come here prior to eat. The food was really good. I saw some not-so-great reviews by some; but that wasn't my experience at all! Great staff, enjoyed the food and the best part...walked on over to the concert. Wins all the way around.
google avatar

Jaclyn T.

Yelp
They recently re-opened and they made a lot of improvements. They added new umbrellas, they added a covered patio and bar, and they revamped their food and drink menu. They use Colorado products even down to the ketchup they put on the tables. This is a great concept. I had 2 Jameson Limeade drinks which was so refreshing on a hot day after hiking and preparing for a concert that evening. I also really love the collard greens that normally comes with the Chicken dish. I had a burger with the collard greens and I really enjoyed it. My friends and I were celebrating my birthday so we also got the pie to share. It reminded me of a hula pie. Delicious and shareable. If you have reservations for dinner and you have a concert scheduled for that evening you can also get into the venue a few hours earlier than the rest of the crowd. This is a prime option!
google avatar

Rebecca N.

Yelp
Our server Billy was attentive and pleasant and we were sat quickly. So the service was good. About the food, my shrimp roll was supposed to be blackened, and wasn't. I also could have used more pico di gallo, and the shoestring fries were soggy and undercooked. But my husband loved the Elk Chili flavors and his Bison Bolognese. The setting is wonderful and we ended up having a great lunch. Would go again, and instead order a salad.
google avatar

Edmarie L.

Yelp
Service was a bit slow, but that aside the food was fantastic as were the views. I had be shrimp roll and it was perfect in every way. The bib lettuce was a perfect barrier for the aioli tossed shrimp to prevent the bun from getting soggy. The aioli was thin and light with a perfect slight heat that played off the sweetness of the bun and the cold chill of the shrimp. The shrimp were plump and well cooked. It's a dish I wouldn't typically order but glad I did and would recommend hands down.

JJ L.

Yelp
The service was super fast! The waitress took our order and before you knew it another brought out our dinner... we got the smash burgers and French fries... the best fries! We ate out on the patio... the fresh air and getting a feel for the red rocks was awesome! Can't wait to go back again.
google avatar

Amanda B.

Yelp
We've been to Red Rocks dozens of times (probably more) but just tried Ship Rock Grill for the first time. It's beautiful, super convenient for pre-show dining, and the service is incredibly fast and friendly. We'll definitely come back.

Rebecca W.

Yelp
Great time visiting this venue. Billy our waiter was friendly and awesome! He is very knowledgeable about magpies

Carrie P.

Yelp
Amazing service and the best is being at the venue for your show! Works out great. Prices were reasonable and views great.

Carlos B.

Yelp
I recently visited Colorado and had amazing food experiences throughout the trip--until I came to this place. Right off the bat, the service felt off. Our waitress gave us strange looks, almost like she was sizing us up or doubting whether we could afford the meal. It was uncomfortable and unnecessary. As for the food--unfortunately, it was a total letdown. I ordered a lemon cake with berries, and it was dry, cold, and tasted like it had been sitting out for days. Nothing fresh about it. We also ordered two more items, and honestly, everything looked and tasted like it came straight from a Walmart grab-and-go section--just slapped onto a plate with zero effort or presentation. Honestly don't do this to yourself. Reck Rocks is an absolutely beautiful place to visit, but avoid this place.
google avatar

Terry G.

Yelp
The best view of any restaurant I've been to or heard of. Soup cooked in-house and extremely reasonable. Delicious but the view is stunning!

Cary S.

Yelp
The waitstaff was nice and the food was delicious! The cocktails were good, and it was a great spot to grab dinner before the show. The location ain't bad either!

Stephen B.

Yelp
Food was ok. Issue was the host. Had reservations at 1:30 on 7-20-25. Showed up at 1:25. Hostess was rude from the moment we went through the door. Was talking about the experience after we sat down. Someone from another table overheard and told us when they were leaving that they had the same experience with the hostess. Our bill was about $150 for 3 of us. Don't need a hostess to be overly pleasant just don't need one to be rude like her. I will never be back!
google avatar

Liz R.

Yelp
Loved touring Denver and the Red Rocks Park is a must on your trip. We decided to check it out first and then drive around town after. Once we did the small trail and many steps up to the amphitheater we were kinda thirsty! Luckily there is a restaurant right next to the amphitheater so we wandered over there for a drink. We were quickly seated in the lovely dining room and approached by our waiter. We decided to just get a glass of wine and a beer along with some tater tots to snack on. While we waited we talked about the next places we wanted to visit. After we got our beverages and tater tots we chow down and enjoyed. The reason I give this place only 3 stars is because the waiter forgot my partner's 2nd drink and then overcharged for my glass of wine. We really didn't want to take time to complain about the overcharge and we just chalked it up to the waiter being busy. Other than that it was nice but we only had the tater tots so we can't vouch for any of the other food.

Murf H.

Yelp
Great variety of foods and drinks to choose from to please any palate. Good mountain vibes from the time we got to the venue before the concert until we left. We were seated on the patio, no less than fantastic. John was an incredible waiter. This was an overall amazing experience.

Eleanor S.

Yelp
Our waitress was super helpful and had a great attitude However the hostess/manager made the experience a miserable one. We had delicious drinks and were about to order our food and the manager came to the table and asked if we had moved an umbrella. We said yes as the sun was blazing and the umbrella was not being used. She started scolding us that it was a fire hazard and that the fire department placed them and they are not allowed to be moved. We asked if she would like us to move it back and she said no. I felt bad because 2 different servers looked at us emphatically - like this might be common with her. We choose to leave and eat somewhere else. It's too bad because it was a beautiful outdoor venue and we were enjoying ourselves until this interaction. Again the servers were fantastic! Some people do not need to be in customer service/hospitality.

Jose G.

Yelp
While the breathtaking views of Red Rock are worth the trip, I can't really say the same for this place. It was starting to sprinkle as we came in so they weren't putting anyone outside which was a bummer since that's what we really wanted... We ordered steak tacos with beans and rice and a chicken sandwich... the sandwich was so so, but man the tacos were pretty greasy and the beans and rice tasted kinda stale... so not fun at all. Maybe some drinks outside on a sunny day would be a better vibe for this place, but we definitely weren't feeling it.
google avatar

Blake B.

Yelp
Views Galore! It's a great place to stop in if you're in need of a bite after exploring red rocks but I will say the menu wasn't as expansive as I'd hope. The staff is friendly and of course you can't beat the outdoor views. The margarita was on the sweeter side but it was a great & refreshing sip after all the stair climbing !
google avatar

Kelly O.

Yelp
The food was okay. The view was nice. The service was good. It's fun to do once. I don't think i will go back.

Sonja H.

Yelp
Beware that it's $25 hold a person to make a reservation. This money does come off your total bill for dinner. The ambiance was so neat and well themed to go with the location. I joked it was like Disney world. We split 2 flat breads and a salad. The goat cheese fritter was so good on the salad. I saw the huge chocolate ice cream cake come out of the kitchen a few times and had to get one. Yum! Defiantly big enough to share
google avatar

Mansi S.

Yelp
This place was surprisingly good. We stopped by for lunch on a Tuesday and they were busy, most of the outside patio area was full. Staff was nice but busy. We tried pretzel bites which were yummy- a generous portion with plenty to share and the cheese dip was so delicious! I tried the soup of the day which was a potato soup. It was thick but full of flavor. I also got a Caesar salad and loved it. Their lemon dressing was so light and fresh. My hubby got the beyond burger and said it was good. Fries were pretty standard Everyone else enjoyed their food and the beautiful views on a sunny day! If you're visiting red rocks definitely stop by for a bite.
google avatar

Christine S.

Yelp
We were attending our 1st Red Rocks concert & wanted to add the restaurant dinner to make a night of it. The food is nothing extraordinary here but it also isn't unpleasant either. I think the reasons to eat here would be that you can avoid the lines at the snack stands while getting possibly a little higher level of food, the views at the restaurant are worth going at least once, & if you get an early reservation you get to enter the venue before doors officially open so that you avoid waiting in the long security lines. While the cocktails & drinks were nothing special, I think we go to shows so infrequently here that when we do attend an event we'd make sure to eat here. The benefits definitely outweigh any negatives.
google avatar

Princess R.

Yelp
Lunch with mountains as your backdrop. We had lunch outside and it was beautiful scenery. I was a party of two. My husband ordered the steak tacos and I got the buffalo wings. His tacos were amazing! I should have ordered them myself lol. The wings were okay. Very similar to what you get at any place. So not bad but nothing special. Just sitting outside with nature literally in the background was beautiful.

Yelp
Getting seated: The host worked hard to be courteous, honest, and helpful. I appreciated that. We got seated within a reasonable amount of time. Seating is limited and this is a popular location at Red Rocks Amphitheater & Park. There is patio and indoor seating. We opted for first available, which gave us an indoor table. One wall of the dining room fully opens to the patio, so we still got a nice sense of the fresh air and beauty outside. Ambiance: Rustic, comfortable, and similar to most park dining places that serve casual dining food. It was clean. Tables were not too crowded together. Bathrooms were decent. You can use the stairs or the elevator to get from the main area to the restaurant level. Service: Our server did a good job. Food: Casual dining. I had a bowl of the pork green chili. It was similar to the popular Mexican soup, Pozole. It was a wee bit too spicy for me, so I got a dollop of sour cream for the top to cut the heat. I did find it tasty. It came with two small flour tortillas. My husband got a burger and fries. He said they were good, too. Parking: Could be a challenge. The small parking lot that seems closest was limited. There are other parking lots, but you might have to climb a slope one way or the other. Overall, my experience was a 5 star for this kind of restaurant. I enjoyed it. Everything went well for us. Note: I know this is a season where establishments are having a hard time finding good workers, so I always keep that generous understanding in mind these days. It took a while to get our food, and I assumed that could be why. We did fine slowing down to enjoy the view and conversation while we waited. Even with that reality, our experience was good. I'd eat there again and bring friends if the situation arose. We are not from that area. Make sure to check the hours of operation before driving there.
google avatar

Laurie W.

Yelp
Service was great & food was ok but the convenience for concert goers is the main reason to eat here.
google avatar

Lizzie R.

Yelp
We stopped by because we happened to visit the Red Rocks Amphitheater on a whim. As an out of towner, there is no indication nor directions telling you to walk downstairs for you to find the grille. All in all, we waited 20min from when we were seated for service. We were then offered complimentary drinks but they tasted extremely watered down. The wings were decent and the tater tots were sub par. Would I go back? Not really but I will say this, their burger and fries looked good!!!!! And, their salads were well portioned.

Mackenzie K.

Yelp
Totally the way to go at a Red Rocks show! Sit outside at the bar for great views to go with the delicious food and drinks. We were at a country show, so I went with a Kentucky Mule, even though I am not a bourbon drinker.
google avatar

Tu-Quyen P.

Yelp
Wonderful spot to eat lunch if you're visiting on a non-concert day with excellent service, lots of yummy comfort food to try and beautiful views even from inside where it's warm. The servers are so attentive, fast and friendly! The hash brown tots were delicious and huge portion, so be prepared! And even though we were stuffed from the yummy Cuban sandwich and Turkey wrap and fries, we still had room for their decadent cookie sundae which came out with a warm center and perfect amount of ice cream on top. Easy to get seating even without a reservation on a non concert day.

Autumn P.

Yelp
Matt was wonderful! He gave great service and a great experience! The food was so good, the atmosphere was very calm and relaxed!

Valerie T.

Yelp
Our waitress was amazing and the food was great! All of this as they were busy with a concert starting that evening that was sold out
google avatar

Aya R.

Yelp
For basically being the only dining option on top of a mountain, Ship Rock Grille doesn't slack off. Highly recommend the mimosa! Also the view is incredible!
google avatar

Rosanne K.

Yelp
im sorry to say our experience last night was dreadful,,, wait staff was not knowledge at all, did not know anything about wine selection and the food was not good,,ordered the blueberry chorizo salad,, the chorizo was cold and inedible,, the flatbread was thick slices of pizza,,, such a disappointment for such a beautiful venue,,, we just wanted to spend our required 50$ and head out the to show,,,

Jaymie R.

Yelp
I was surprise how good this place was. I thought it was going to be a touristy spot but their food was awesome and the view is really cool.

Sarah G.

Yelp
I had a reservation here for before the Rateliff show. They would not allow us into the venue due to bad weather. I called today to get my reservation fee refunded (almost $100!) They would not refund the reservation fee. They were so rude and totally took advantage and basically stole our money .... Never again!
google avatar

Sue H.

Yelp
This is really a zero star rating, but as that is not a choice, it gets a one. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE! Despite having a lunch reservation for 2pm, when we arrived we were told in an exceptionally rude manner by the hostess that "the kitchen closes in 5 minutes so you better hurry up and order. And in any case we kick everyone out of here by 3 pm." Our bill arrived ~2 min after the food arrived and the waitress stood over me while I looked for my credit card. The bill was $64.79. For food I wasn't given time to consume.

Abbie V.

Yelp
Will definitely be coming back here next time I go to a concert at Red Rocks! Our food was 100000/10 and the service was top notch! I wish I would've taken a picture of the food but I was too busy scarfing it down!

Karen R.

Yelp
Six of us had lunch at the Shiprock today. Everything was great! Highly recommend the elk sausage, the fish and chips, and the beet Greek salad. The kids had a Rock Burger and chicken tenders. All of it was great. We had great service as well. Aiden was our server and was super friendly and helpful. Very enjoyable. And, the remodeled space is nice, both indoor and patio dining.
google avatar

Mike N.

Yelp
Morrison, Co. Had lunch here while exploring Red Rocks. I had low expectations since at is a touristy locale, but you know it was pretty darned good. Prices were reasonable and probably less than any meal at DIA. My chicken salad had fresh greens and the chicken was breaded but not fried. A bit on the small side but I was ok with that uncharacteristically. The green chili was really scrumptious. Our waitress was really great, got us a table with some shade, and brought out our food quickly. I liked that they gave me a generous hunk of avocado. Surprising since most places are stingy with it. Tortilla with the chili was fresh and warm. Overall it was a perfect light lunch, and a nice break from the hiking and heat.
google avatar

Kenric S.

Yelp
A group of eight of enjoyed our foods but they require one credit card for tables of eight or more. I donot recommond going here ifpassing incash.

Yelp
DO NOT DO BRUNCH HERE! Maybe I have a different standard for Brunch, especially a buffet brunch and this place certainly does not meet that standard. I have been to so many places for brunch and when I saw that Ship Rock Grille had an Easter Brunch, I was like score. Made a reservation for my family and was really looking forward to it. I had not been out to Red Rock yet, so our family loaded up and made the 90 minute trip for our glorious Easter Brunch (Well so I thought). We were a bit early so we walked around and explored the concert grounds while we waited. Our reservation was for 9:30 am, and we were seated fairly promptly. It is buffet style so basically you go to where the food is and serve yourself. The spread was well, umm... unsatisfying. When you are paying Thirty-five dollars for breakfast I guess you have some expectations. The prime rib was ok and probably their only saving grace, the ham was dryer than I have ever had, and the omelet station was a sad joke. The omelet station couldn't seem to get operational burners, I felt bad for the cooks because there was not much they could do. All and all nothing popped out at me, and nothing was that fantastic. Final bill with tip was $170+ for five people, who only really maybe at a plate of food with coffee & juices for the kids. I could of made us an excellent breakfast for way less than this, and I wouldn't of had to drive and I could of had a dang cocktail. Nah, nope, un uh... Won't ever come back here again for a brunch. This a beautiful place, and obviously there is no where else to eat around here so it is unfortunate that your only option is overpriced subpar food.
google avatar

Meridith H.

Yelp
I've been to the Ship Rock Grille a number of times. The food is not bad, but there's nothing fancy about it. It's just food that will take care of your hunger. The staff is always friendly and polite as well. However, on certain concert nights, the grille resorts to a buffet for dinner. No menu. The buffet is overpriced and is very limited with its selection. The buffet sucks. For the chef to serve buffets on some concert nights is a complete cop out on their part. It shows that they have no concern for the customer that made reservations expecting to order from the menu. It shows me that the chef and the staff can not handle a full restaurant service. Buffets take work too keeping temps and food rotated but when you make a reservation expecting full menu service, the buffet is disappointing. When someone makes reservations at the Grille expecting to be able to order off the menu, it is maddening to show up and find out that its buffet, its much more than you'd have spent ordering from the menu, and the selection is lousy. Everytime we've had reservations and found out it was buffet, we don't eat. On a good note, the Grille does now let you know that it will be buffet service. We then go elsewhere to eat. That's money the Grille loses.

Yelp
The food was shockingly GREAT! I only wish the restaurant had a little better view of Red Rocks, but we got plenty of great views on our hike beforehand.
