Revisit These 9 Houston Area Spots Featured in Netflix’s Hit Show ‘Mo’

"In Mo, Rapper Tobe Nwigwe’s character Nick emphasizes that whether it’s a bear claw or a kolache, something sweet from Shipley is a necessary comfort in a time of crisis. He and Mo end up at a location in one of the show’s later episodes, giving the local glazed doughnut chain some much-deserved shine." - Brittany Britto Garley

To Owner, Please post on your website that customers are not allowed into the donut shop after 12pm. I took a Lyft to your donut shop yesterday, Aug 30th, around 1:30pm. I was disappointed to find the doors were locked and there was a sign stating, “Please use drive thru after 12pm.” I’ve attached a picture of the sign on the front door of the donut shop. This was my first time to this particular donut shop. Your store is open until 8pm according to the website so I was confused. I tried calling the store but nobody answered. Finally, I saw an employee in the store and she signaled for me to go to the drive thu window. I met her at the window and asked her why the inside closes at 12pm? She tells me she doesn’t know why but that it’s store policy. I wanted to dine-in so that I could enjoy my donuts in the air conditioning and relax. In the end, I decided to eat next door at another restaurant. So why do you not allow customers inside your donut shop after 12pm?

This shipleys used to be good. The women barely speak English and they don’t understand anything I’m saying. I asked for the new sausage and egg kolache around 1PM yesterday and they told me they only sold it in the morning. The next day I come 6 in the morning and they say they only have sausage kolache. I asked what time will the egg/sausage be ready and they have no idea what I’m saying. There was a guy name Ishameal who would always take care of me and he would get me what I wanted no problem. Atrocious service I’m extremely disappointed

My experience at Shipley's Do-Nuts today was about as casual as could be. We were here to get a meal, as well as a dozen for others to enjoy. We got our food and a coffee to go with it, which was delightful as it was early and just what I needed at that hour. As for the donuts, I myself ordered a kolache to go with mine (plain sausage and simply delicious), and a small maple iced (which I have no complaints about). For the service, everything was relatively quick and easy. The atmosphere was nicely adorned and was all that it should be. The only complaint I can make was about the warmth of the food, or really the lack thereof. All in all, this Shipley's location is an ideal breakfast stop that I can see myself coming back to.

Last week I went to this Shipley's and bought some donuts and two cinnamon rolls. Then when I went to work and started to eat one of my cinnamon rolls with my coffee and I bite into it I find a hair. It was disgusting, a long light hair there stuck into the middle of the cinnamon roll. I will not be coming back to this Shipley's and I could not go back to show them just to let them know due to getting out of work late. 😡

I'm on a strict diet, so I only get orange juice and water from this location. The ladies always have an attitude and when they hand you the credit card machine they Always suggest I tip them. Which is Rude and Weird. Before I started my diet I would get the kolaches... I Totally second the review below... ALL Bread.. sausage is VERY Tiny. Not worth $3. Other than that... It's just ok.

Yelp
Shipley's is a Houston donut institution. Came here to pick up a quick dozen, half glazed half cream filled (my favorite). The glazed came out hot and fresh, wish the cream filled were, too, but they were still yummy. No issues with service, cleanliness, etc.

Yelp
Let me start off saying that I love Shipleys BUT the customer service on Stella Link in Houston is HORRIBLE! I've visited the store on several occasions since they're literately across from my neighborhood BUT I WILL NEVER visit this location again! The donuts are always served cold. Like it only take a few seconds to warm the pastries in the microwave BUT due to staff laziness this one employee name Carla refused to warm the donuts and asked if i wanted the order or not. Mind you I was placing the order for my staff of 15....smh You'd think as an establishment in these days that customer service would be PRIORITY. Needless to say, the S: Main location is at the opposite entrance of our subdivision so I gladly patronize their location in which the donuts are ALWAYS served warm. Be mindful about who you hire because they could make or break your business.

Yelp
I live around the corner from this Shipley and usually only go there when I have unexpectedly run out of coffee. Recently, they have hired a new employee who works the drive thru window. I'm not a fan. She never smiles and approaches the window with a bothered expression. Saturday morning I went to get a medium coffee, small milk, and a cinnamon roll. When I got home, opened the milk and drank from it, I discovered that they had given me a sour, expired carton of milk. I won't be going back anytime soon.

Yelp
Kind of a divey location and super small, but the food is delicious and consistent with other locations. When you are looking for a cheap and unhealthy breakfast really quick, this is your spot! They serve you quick, even when there is a lot of people, no need to fret. The line moves fast. I was in and out in less than 3 minutes with my sausage and cheese kolaches and bag of donut holes. I will say that I wish they offered more flavors of kolaches besides either sausage or ham.

Yelp
Not much to say here. Excellent service. I usually get the kolaches for myself and donut holes for my little people. They're always fresh. Store is clean. Drive thru service is thorough. Great for the braeswood/Bellaire area. Pull up!

Yelp
Nice place. Clean and friendly (more often than not). The regulars who hang out there are a bit weird, but otherwise good.

Yelp
Omg....I have always liked Shipley's donuts but today my daughter bought me some and I was excited and eating them with my fingers and I realized half way thru its green spots all over every donut. Best believe I will never be eating Shipley's again. && my daughter is taking them back to get her money back. Now mind you this is the shipley's on hwy 6 in Missouri city across from the H.E.B....so if you go there stop.

Yelp
This location was a letdown. It's the closest Shipley's to my house but it was just plain dirty. The tables were sticky, I just was saddened, because at the end of the day the donuts are still good but it just wasn't an atmosphere that made me want to eat there, just pick it up and leave.

Yelp
Consistent donuts. The cake donuts are cakey. The cream-filled are full of cream. The chocolate-filled are full of chocolate. The standard glazed are outstandingly chewy with a nice amount of pull while they're warm. (Don't let these ones sit for too long, you would be missing out.) Pull up in the morning and get yourself a private half-dozen. Swallow your Protestant guilt along with the sweet, sweet glaze.

Yelp
Horrible. Every time I go I find small GREEN spots in my donuts!!!! This is the last time I'm going because after I asked the cashier to replace my donuts the new donuts ALSO had several small green spots on them. Gross.

Yelp
The McDonald's of donuts. Sure they taste good, but you feel a little crappy about yourself afterwards.

Yelp
Went before work. . Very nice and clean.. staff was very helpful and the place was not too busy.. donuts we AWESOME AND WARM! !! It hit the donut craving...

Yelp
Just like any other Shipley's, this one serves delicious donuts and kolaches. If you're ever up early I really recommend getting some donuts from them. You will find some of the most hot/gooey/melt in your mouth donuts early morning here.

Gary W.

Yelp
I am amending my review because Yelp appears to wants more detail to give a bad review... This location is terrible. The donuts taste worse than grocery store donuts 12 hours old and and the kolache's are greasy and disgusting. The one I ate from my last trip dripped grease all over my shirt as I tried to eat it and it tastes terrible. I will be so glad when KK doughnuts returns to Houston.

Yelp
this is the same donut shop that i grew up next to as a kid. the smell of baking donuts at 5 am is so deliciously good!! this place reminds me of home sweet home and they never disappoint. forget Dunkins; forget Krispy Kreme (too sweet); i love Shipley!!

Patrick C.

Yelp
A disappointment, especially for a Shipley shop. The cake donuts were great, but everything else? Not so much. The kolache had wayyyy too much bread - had to search for the sausage. My wife's cinnamon role was very dry and didn't have much cinnamon in it. The chocolate donut "wasn't bad" but it wasn't great either. We'll shop elsewhere in the future.
