When the country is dominated by its own cuisine; being a Japanese restaurant can easily stand out. Don’t get me wrong, the food is good and the sashimi and sushi are fresh, but I agree with another reviewer that it’s no comparison to those restaurants that I had dine-in in Tokyo, Sapporo and Fukuoka. I also agree with another reviewer that the tall waiter is….maybe he doesn’t like his job much and it showed when he was taking our orders. If the owner is unfortunately or fortunately reading this, maybe a remedy should be considered.

It's often quite difficult to find authentic Japanese food in Europe, so finding a place that taste quite good was a surprise. I've been to Japan 5+ times, and the food fares well with the average Japanese restaurant in Japan. The fish is incredibly fresh (similar quality to that I've had at a fish market in Sapporo), and their curry is on par with the curry at the JAL first class lounge. The katsu is perfectly cooked and not overly breaded. Overall, I would recommend this restaurant.

During our stay in Rome, my husband and I started missing sushi, so we decided to try this restaurant for a change of pace. The first impression was great, but honestly, the food quality was just okay, definitely not close to authentic Japanese, but fine if you’re craving some Asian food in Rome. We asked for a drink recommendation to pair with sushi, but the tall gentleman who served us simply said he doesn’t drink 😅, so unfortunately there wasn’t much guidance. It would have been nice to hear about some best-seller dishes or good drink pairings. On the positive side, the prices are reasonable, and I really liked that the nigiri sushi wasn’t overloaded with rice that was a pleasant surprise! :)

The best ramen and Japanese food in Italy and maybe in Europe. The Sushi was great and authentic The ramen was great and the tonkatsu is a must have.

Very disappointed. The teriyaki chicken was poorly executed: dry chicken, salty sauce, and dry rice. Definitely not worth the price or the expectation.

Although this place locates in the tourist place, this restaurant can provide not only contemporary style Japanese food but also several varieties of authentic Japanese foods as well. Very good place.

⭐☆☆☆☆ Not sure how this place managed to appear on the Michelin guide. The food itself leans heavily toward a Korean twist, so if you’re expecting authentic Japanese food you’ll likely be disappointed. Unfortunately, the service was just as underwhelming—staff put in zero effort, showed no warmth, and made the whole experience feel unwelcoming. This is nowhere near the level of Japanese hospitality you’d expect, and compared to other local spots in Rome, it was a real letdown. Definitely not worth the hype.

Black American and Asian-American wife, had been in Italy just over a week, so I wanted to surprise wife with Japanese dinner. This place didn't disappoint. We went a little conservative with dinner, ordering the Gyoza dumplings and clams. Clams was good, just small. The Gyoza dumplings may be the BEST i've ever had. Only bad thing was there were 4, so only ate 2 as we shared starters. We both got the Ramen, I went with spicy, wife had seafood Ramen. We didn't discuss dinner, I assumed she was going to get sushi and I would try a few pieces. Wish I would have tried some, but a reason to go back if in Rome. Wife stayed with water, I order sake. Had better in Japan, not an expert, so probably order the "wrong" sake bottle. Should have asked about the sake. Overall this might have been my favorite place while in Italy (I know that sounds bad, maybe because it was so different).

After a few days of pasta and pizza we craved for some new cuisine. Luckily we found this place. Service was great, got seated right away and food came out fairly quickly. Even the water was delicious I drank the whole bottle. -The pork cutlet had a nice flaky breading to it and blended well with the curry. -The ramen had a nice rich broth and was very comforting. -The unagi was pleasant without a fishy or earthy aftertaste enjoyed it.

stumbled upon this michelin guided restaurant so of course we had to try it. i was nervous trying raw fish in rome, but it was ok. ramen was perfect! overall, i would recommend! service was good. the servers were attentive.

When in Italy, and you become tired of the endless amount of pizza and pasta. You switch to a different type of noodle-ramen, soba-maybe throw in a rice box or sushi for some fun. That is exactly what happened and how we stumbled upon this great spot; well that and looking up Michelin rated restaurants in the area. Solid Japanese food in Italy of all places. The staff was super friendly and attentive. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and got our Japanese fix.

Seafoods are fresh and foods are better than other Japanese restaurants all owned by Chinese in Rome. The downside is the owner Sabrina kept on speaking in Japanese to us even we know she is Chinese. We made reservation and she gave us the worst table outside once she saw we are Asian. And she gave other white people without reservation to sit inside. What a shame!

Pasta and Italy are not an unusual pairing but good ramen in Rome? I passed by this restaurant a few times before finally stopping by for a late lunch today. Shiroya serves sushi, donburi and ramen but in the mid afternoon there was no sushi service. Fine by me. It was a cold & rainy day. Pizza is tasty. Italian style pasta dishes are good. But when it's cold and rainy give me Asian-style noodle soups. There are several ramens on offer and I chose the Miso Ramen (14 €). There was a large party (9) of mature Roman friends lunching and, obviously, they were going all out. They ordered their mains, dessert and then coffee thereby monopolizing the 3 servers. Why this was the case and not just one server? In any case, I was glad of a warm interior and finally having some Japanese soup. My server was a Chinese-Italian woman who spoke quite good English and she was quite informative. She gave me the little dish of pickled veggie sticks and brought my beverage. Then it was a bit of a wait as the big party and my neighbors (a duo) were served. The interior is very tranquil and there is a flat screen TV showing scenes of Japan. The decorations were soothing and very zen. When I got my bowl of noodles, I was pretty excited. It looked great. Arranged picturesquely were the seaweed, corn, bamboo, pork and half boiled egg. The soup had a rich taste which comes from long simmering and the veggies were firm. The pork slices were thick and spiraled with a layers of fat that you'd expect from good pork belly. This bowl of noodles didn't last long as I demolished it lickety split. Ahh! If you find yourself close to the Campo di Fiori and the have a craving for Japanese food, do not hesitate to eat at Shiroya. They have 3 Japanese chefs here making some delicious food.

Be aware that they require reservations. Came in on a Saturday night and saw plenty of open tables. Was turned down for not booking ahead.

We wanted to take a break from the delicious pasta and pizza that Rome has! We were craving for some Asian food. The kids wanted ramen and I wanted to try their sushi. Their ramen was a bit too salty for me but surprisingly their chirashi bowl was very fresh and came with many varieties of fish. I guess it's not something you would expect in Rome. We came during lunch time so there was no wait but they do close from 3-5pm for their break. We got their around 2:15pm and was advised we need to finish by 3pm, which was not a problem. Definitely recommend if you want a break from all the yummy Italian food!

Some of the best ramen I've ever had, regardless of country. After a week in Italy honeymooning, my wife and I wanted a change of pace after all that pasta! Tried the ramen here as our hotel was like 3 doors down, and it did not disappoint! Stop by for lunch or dinner, you will not be disappointed.

Very rude service and FOOD POISONING! I was not a fan of one of my rolls (thought it was fishy) and instead of dealing with this situation in a normal fashion, they began to aggressively question me about what I meant by "fishy" and why I didn't enjoy the dish. I explained to them I have no problem paying for the roll but they continued to bring more people to question me about my definition of "fishy" then continued to discuss this matter in front of the whole restaurant. A huge scene was caused and I felt very uncomfortable as a customer. AND THEN I GOT FOOD POISONING! There definitely was something wrong with that fish!

I would come back! A gem and savior in Rome for anyone who loves traditional Ramen. I ordered their Shoyu ramen and finished everything. The broth was flavorful, not salty, and the perfect fat/oil texture. Toppings were proportionate as well. I tried their clams in sake - not as strong as garlic and wine. I enjoyed them but the daikon was the best part.

I've never had a restaurant that is less than half full tell me there is over an hour wait, and then be surprised when I walk away. Restaurants in this area of Rome seem to get spooked when your a party of one - sorry some people travel solo?

Ramen is the last thing you would think to eat when in Rome, but on a chilly damp night, it was an excellent choice! The broth was delicious, the vegetables cooked to the perfect consistency and the pork was melt-in-your-mouth tender. The entire meal, including the excellent service and welcoming atmosphere, was an eminently satisfying experience. I will always return to Shiroya!

Very very innovative japanese food yet still retains the essence. We were pleasantly surprised at all the dishes we had there. The sashimi is top quality. Spicy ramen is amazing too.

I love pasta as much as the next person but after a week of sub-40F rainy weather in Rome, carbs and sauce doesn't quite cut it. First I looked up hot pot (lol) and found zero options but figured I'd try something a bit more ubiquitous. Though ramen shops in Rome are far and few in between, I ended up here and despite only a few reviews, the pictures looked promising. While I didn't have a reservation, there were only a few patrons so I was able to sit inside. The shop was staffed by a waitress along with what appeared to be a mother and her daughter, as well as a very bored (or tired) sushi chef. She asked if I spoke Japanese - no - and I told her in rudimentary Japanese that I'd prefer English if possible. Apparently, they speak English fluently so that wasn't even an issue. As for the food, I had gyoza (Japanese ravioli?) and the miso ramen. While it's not the best miso ramen I've had (that crown goes to miso ramen in Sapporo), it was probably one of the best things I ate in Italy that entire week. The broth was sufficiently porky and gelatinous with a strong undercurrent of miso to deliver that rich umami flavor. The chashu was thinly sliced and charred, and it was served alongside properly half-boiled eggs. Excellent service and excellent food to round out the night.

Fast service, friendly staff and they speak English. Probably the best miso ramen I've had.

AMAZING!!! We were craving ramen and happened to stumble upon this place by chance. It's a super quaint trendy place that is inviting and very accommodating. A hidden gem! You walk inside and immediately see a sushi chef preparing beautiful delicious sushi plates. We tried the chef's choice plate for sushi, the miso ramen soup, crunchy spicy salmon, crunchy spicy tuna, and the pork gyozas and edamame. It was all sooooooo delicious. Please try this place you will not regret it!!!

I'm surprised this place didn't have more reviews! So delicious. We had to sit outside because we didn't have a reservation but it was worth it (under heat lamps). There was no sushi/sashimi/raw fish dishes available unfortunately (sushi chef was out) but the ramen was to die for. The pork and soy ramen soup was so flavorful and perfectly portioned. Everything my family got was good too. My brother got curry udon and it was some of the best curry we've ever eaten! Veggie ramen, seafood ramen, and stir-fried udon were also good. The raw and fried tofu appetizer was also really tasty (amazing sauce!). Highly recommend if you're looking for a break from the Italian food.

This was by far the best meal that I had on this European trip. I have been to Japan numerous times, and this restaurant puts out some of the most authentic Japanese food outside of Japan that I have had. The service was fantastic as well was all the different dishes that we tried. You have to try this place, you will not be disappointed.

Good ramen spot with cold beer and fresh sushi. I would highly recommend this place to eat. Staff was tentative and we didn't wait long for the food to be ready even though we had a party of 7.
