Why Adelaide Is Australia’s Most Exciting Food and Wine Destination

"I ate at Shobosho and enjoyed its charcoal-fired izakaya counter up front, a clear example of Adelaide's embrace of global, hands-on cooking techniques." - Kevin West Kevin West Kevin West is a writer, food consultant, and “canning evangelist” (according to NPR). Everytime I come to Adelaide, its a must visit here. My favourite Japanese restaurant in Adelaide. Highly recommend all the dishes I had and if you are solo dining, they have half portion options! Perfect to try more on the menu 🤤

My wife and I are had a great dinner at Shobosho! We had a Sho Yakitori - Sho Premium Omakase ($95 p/p). Cost was a bit expensive, however it was really worth it to try all of the dishes were coming out! We will certainly visit there again!

Holy my gosh! The best Japanese food I have ever had. The staff were so lovely and fun and accommodating. Beautiful hidden gem and I would come back to Adelaide just for another meal here!

Had an excellent experience at Shobosho! The food was absolutely fantastic—full of bold flavors and beautifully presented. Every dish was a standout. The service was just as impressive: attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely welcoming. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a top-tier dining experience.

We were asked to sit at the communal table which was not as comfortable as we would like while the proper tables were empty throughout our meal...Food was mostly great except for the crab udon which was a bit blend for my liking. Recommend the grilled edamame which was very flavourful.

Unfortunately, disappointed with the dishes ordered as the flavour balances were off. Had the tartare - the amount of chilli oil (which wasn't hot, but strong in its own flavour) spoilt the overall dish because it overpowered the rest of the flavours and lingered as an aftertaste, without the chilli oil - flavours were much better. We were recommended by staff to mix it and eat, glad we tried it beforehand to note the differences. Had the spiced lamb bbq dish - meat cooked to perfection, but a soy sauce used was too heavy and salty in ratio, so again, took away from the rest of the dish and left an aftertaste. The oyster was yum. Would revisit because the menu is very appealing, sad that the flavours weren't in harmony this time around. Staff were lovely even when we discussed this with them :)

Sensational! I booked this place for my partner and me to celebrate our anniversary. I visited a couple of years ago when I was in Adelaide and absolutely loved the food, drinks, and atmosphere, so I decided to surprise my partner by booking it again for our special night. I made the reservation two months in advance and added a small note: we’d like to start with a glass of Prosecco, it’s our anniversary, we’d need to leave a bit earlier as we were heading to a show, and that we’re a lovely gay couple. From the moment we arrived, we were spoiled and warmly welcomed. The glasses of Prosecco were already waiting at our table, the staff congratulated us, and the service throughout the night was absolutely professional — they truly made us feel special. The food was top of the top — incredibly delicious! A massive compliment to the kitchen. The duck wontons and the Wagyu steak tartare were absolute highlights. The ambience was stunning — a busy restaurant, yet still intimate with a fantastic vibe, not too loud, just perfect. Everything was spotless, from the dining room to the bathrooms. Unfortunately, I didn’t take any photos as we were too impressed and fully caught up in the moment — which says a lot! This restaurant is so elevated and perfect for any occasion. We don’t want to mention specific names because every single staff member including kitchen staff, from booking to goodbye, was brilliant. Thank you for making our anniversary unforgettable!

We ordered several dishes. But the two really impressed us are wild mushrooms fried rice and King Henry steak. Highly recommended!
