Shock Gelato

We ate a late lunch today and weren’t wanting dinner really. So we decided to go out for dessert instead. We tried Shock Gelato for the first time and it didn’t disappoint. The atmosphere was very nice. I held the door for a group of lady customers as I was entering and they were exiting. I heard them say, “I love this place.” A group of young people that came in behind me shortly after were speaking amongst themselves while we were waiting to be served. They were also taking about how much they love this place and how they were here at the Grand Opening or first day open. I knew I had made a good choice. Kenny and Olivia were the servers and they did an excellent job taking care of the guests. The place was busier than I imagined a frozen dessert style restaurant would be on a late Sunday evening. Regardless everyone was served swiftly but with attention to detail. We had a group of seven and at least three groups of 5 or more came in behind us. I didn’t see one customer that was dissatisfied whatsoever. There are so many flavors in the showcase. I wanted to try them all!!! I understand that they rotate the flavors too so perhaps next time will be a totally different experience. I can’t wait to come back and try some more. They do allow you to sample multiple flavors. I tried 3-4 before just placing my order. I don’t think that it’s possible to pick a bad flavor. I ordered the largest size so that I could get three flavors. All three were splendid. I’m already excited for my next visit.

We stumbled upon this super fun Birmingham spot looking for some quick dessert and lucked out. They were fairly busy with only a short line, but the staff were knowledgeable on their flavors and gave great recommendations with generous servings. The pistachio gelato was incredible and tasted just like a little slice of Italy. The cappuccino was the cherry on top! Definitely give this spot a try.

Gelato is a subjective experience. My experience with gelato began on a trip to Italy. It was absolutely wonderful. Back in the states I have rarely found anything comparable. (Surprisedly, there is an excellent place in Morgantown West Virginia.) We tried 6 flavors. The chocolate was an A. Raspberry and strawberry were a B. Kiwi was a C as was the mango. Banana rated D. Other tasters could be quite different in the ratings. However, the 3 adults in the household agreed on this. I am still looking for Italian level gelato around here.

You absolutely must try this gelato! It’s the most delicious I’ve ever had. Treat your family, friends, and yourself to this heavenly place. I just had a cappuccino here too, with a “Masita” (Argentinian pastry) and it was just as amazing! The staff too is incredibly friendly. I’ll be back!

Shock Gelato was amazing. The gelato was the best I've ever had. The atmosphere was fun and welcoming. Olivia and Kenny provided outstanding service. They were very friendly and patient. Also their recommendations were great. Excellent gelato and excellent service. I'll definitely be back.

BEST ice cream in Michigan… no doubt! I could go over and over again! All the flavors are absolutely delicious.. it’s a 10 out of 10!

Amazing Gelato which is not super common in Michigan. Very nice staff as well in fair prices. They also have some really good coffee and treats.

If you love gelato’s in Italy this is the go to place to get an authentic gelato. Highly recommend!

Seriously! Seriously! You need to go here. The only reason not to stop by is if you do not enjoy food. I understand that this is Brazilian in origin, but it had a Roman style feel. There were a lot of different flavors, some that you would expect and some that were surprising. I very much enjoyed the salty lemon sorbet on a hot day. We are extremely lucky they have this in our area. Spread the word and let's make sure this place is a success. Selfishly, I want to make sure that I can still go there for years to come.

What a great new addition to Birmingham, we walked over after having dinner across the street and were pleasantly surprised with how busy they were. The staff was very helpful and nice! I got Dubai chocolate and white chocolate raspberry, they both tasted very good and had lots of toppings mixed in. The place is small but there were plenty of tables and room to sit.

Always amazing service and quality! The flavors are rich! The vibes are just relax and eat some delicious gelato!

So excited about this new gelato place!! I sampled a bunch and had the hardest time picking just one! The creamy texture, the flavor - two thumbs up! I loved kiwi flavor and white chocolate raspberry but pistachio flavor was the best I've ever had! I also loved the fact that they let you put two flavors in a small size cup. The space is nice and open, with the whole front wall opening up - perfect for the short warm season in Michigan. (Also, check out the bathroom:). It's all so orange you almost need sunglasses ). Finally, the girls at the counter are friendly and patiently let you keep trying different flavors with a smile.

This is such a neat little gelato place! There were so many options to choose from and I find this place very unique out of all of the dessert places in downtown Birmingham. The staff was very friendly and we were served very quickly. The bathroom was also very interesting and very orange so be sure to check it out if you get a chance! My only complaint was that the store itself was outside and there weren't enough tables for the influx of customers.

Ordered two petite cones (barely a bite each). Staff accidentally made a large cone, then shockingly tossed it in the trash instead of offering it to us. Watching perfectly good food wasted like that was upsetting and unethical. Won't be returning.

Tried this place the other night and it was awesome! The gelato flavors were so good and unique--I highly recommend the Nutella flavor. This is a great summer staple and I will definitely be returning.

Shock was amazing! There was not much raspberry flavor in my gelato but it was still delicious! The service was great and they welcomed us with a smile, The bathroom was so cool, very very orange!

Variety of homemade Italian gelato and sorbets and friendly staff. Super cute and clean place that offers coffee and sweet treats too.

I don't have pictures because we ate it before thinking about taking any, but this was the best gelato I have ever had! Disclaimer - I have not been to Italy yet so OK maybe it could be better there But I highly recommend Shock! I had the coconut and pistachio and both were delicious. The staff was super friendly. Definitely check it out when you're in downtown Birmingham.

Delicious gelato! Had orange/ mango and pistachio, both very good. Nice ambiance, clean, and well maintained.

Shock Gelato has the BEST gelato I've tasted! I had both chocolate almond and the vegan chocolate. So good! Shock also serves coffee and pastries. Highly recommend!
