Shoots Fish & Beer

We had never been to this location before, so we went because they were listed in our REPEGS app (we saved 20% by using that)! We were blown away by how warmly we were welcomed, how easy it was to get our REPEGS deal, and the food was amazing. We had the Bang Bang Cauliflower, Fish n Chips, and 3 different tacos, along with our favorite Artifex Kombucha. All fresh and delish! We sat at the bar - everyone is so friendly and happy, staff and customers alike. Very great Friday night date night experience. Glad we took a chance. We will return and thanks to REPEGS, we get to keep trying out new local businesses around us!

The girl who took our order was very friendly, but was distracted by her phone. She had her back turned to the registers and was on her phone while I was in line waiting on her to ask about our food. The food was amazing. Some of the best poke we’ve had. Great fish tacos. Loved it and we will be back!

Came here for lunch, and I got the Tuna Smash Burger! It was very tasty and better than I expected. There were pickled onions, some sort of secret sauce, cheese, and cabbage. It didn't look too big, but it turned out to be the perfect amount. I would definitely get this again. Then my friend got the Musubi, which was in a roll, not your typical Spam Musubi, but was told this one was good as well, for a nice small snack. The Musubi roll had white rice, teriyaki sauce, green onion, and furikake. I'm excited to try their fish tacos next time, as well as other items.

Fresh fish Tacos and cold beer on draft with great music. I can’t name a better combination. This is a spot we like to visit often. Love you guys!!

Shoots Fish and Beer was a great experience overall. The food was delicious. We especially loved the fish and chips and the fish sandwich, both cooked perfectly with great flavor. The atmosphere was laid-back and welcoming, and the service was friendly and attentive. The only miss for us was the blood orange on the oysters, which didn’t quite hit the mark. Still, everything else more than made up for it. We would definitely come back.

We had a great experience here tonight. Looking for good fish tacos and a local atmosphere, Shoots does both really well. We had fried yellowtail tacos. They were really tasty, nice and crispy, with a good mix of salty/tangy/rich flavors. Good selection of drinks, too, with good beers and wines on tap. The atmosphere is also cool, with a good patio and it is attached to a couple other restaurants and they had live music playing tonight. Overall a very cool place and I would highly recommend it.

Although the portions were on the smaller side, I wasn’t disappointed at all. The Japanese lager was outstanding, and the food was absolutely delicious. I had the fish and chips, and the batter was some of the best I’ve had. I stopped by with friends after work for happy hour, and this place truly hit the spot. A great experience all around — I’ll definitely be back!

parking: has a few lots you can park in location: in carlsbad village amongst other businesses service: chill servers, they did forget some items in our order though. food came out pretty slow. food: aesthetics 9/10 taste & quality: poke - 6.5/10, masubi - 6/10, baja fish tacos - 5/10 cost: pretty pricy, ~$45 for 3 small dishes.. overall, pretty shabby experience with the food here :-( we were super excited seeing all other reviews and photos, but were ultimately let down. the poke was decent but small portion. they also forgot the avocado we added. the masubi was too wet and falling apart everywhere. the fish in the tacos was small & tasted fishy. a bit soggy. the portions are small yet pricy. a photogenic spot, but my personal experience was just alright. the food quality really disappointed us. so overall would give this place a 3/5. wanted to love it, but it just was not it for us. looks good, but is not so good. :-(

We are so glad we gave this place a try! They have all kinds of unique and creative seafood dishes that really set this place apart from other seafood joints. I decided to try the poke, and it did not disappoint, super good and fresh with huge chunks of juicy ahi tuna that made every bite delicious. Only downside was the portion size was OK for the price. I also really appreciated their gluten-free offerings, as my celiac husband was able to get the musubi roll, and he loved every bite of it. It's great to see a place that caters to allergy restrictions while still delivering on flavor!! The atmosphere was relaxed and spacious, making it a great spot for a casual Saturday bite.

We came here after visiting the Strawberry Fields and came rather close to closing time. They had lots of space for sitting either on the Shoots deck/patio area and in the Carlsbad Village patio seating. The parking is kind of tricky if it is crowded. I recommend finding street parking and walking. The workers here are super nice and had some good recommendations. We ordered Poke, a sandwich, and some French fries and all of it was really good. We would come back again and enjoyed taking our friends here the first time when they came to visit.

Fish taco was excellent!! Fish was fresh and veggies and toppings were crisp. Workers are friendly and the scene is beachy. What else would you want for a nice stop in Carlsbad?

After hearing rave reviews from friends, I finally visited Shoots and it absolutely lived up to the hype! The food was fantastic--three different tacos, fish and chips, wine, and beer--and a great value for such fresh fish. The relaxed atmosphere is perfectly suited for North County, and the friendly service only added to the experience.

I tried the Pescaderos taco and the Pork taco, and they were so good I wanted to buy more. My friend had a beer and said it was great. Ordered Cheyene's OG Poke and the ahi was so fresh and delicious! I definitely devoured everything that was in my bowl. I wish they gave a little more, but this was a good quick meal to eat for $18. Also got the guava and ginger nonalcoholic booch and it was delicious!

The new thing in So Cal appears to be craft tacos! That just means possibly healthier ingredients and definitely smaller portions. I liked the concept of this area with a communal yard and good social setting; however, I found the prices at Shoots to be high for what they were offering. Even the canned sodas and beers were expensive. Poke is premade so you can't ask for any changes. The poke portion is also tiny! Salsa could have more flavor. I don't frequent Carlsbad Village, but if I was hungry, I would eat at a location with satisfying and more flavorful meals.

I just moved to area and stopped here for dinner over the holidays. It was good but nothing to rave about. The servers were friendly and the area is cute to hangout at and grab some ice cream afterwards.

You can't really go wrong with anything on the menu. Everything is fresh and super tasty!! Shrimp taco is my personal favorite, as well as the fish wing. But the healthy stuff is tasty too! The ahi tuna steak is a bit bland though.

Drove down to carlsbad and had lunch at this quaint little shop. Open air dining area with a lot of seating outside. This nice young lady took our order of rhe blonde beer, watermelon marg, fish and chips and musubi (spam made into a sushi roll) food was great. Fish had a nice light batter wand was very fresh.

MEDICORE BLAND LUNCH (3.2 stars) I was hoping to like this place more but it was mediocre. - FOOD: mediocre - SERVICE: just ok - PRICE: wasn't worth it - AMBIANCE: cute little spot :: ORDER :: WATERMELON AGUA FRESCA ($7) - contains alcohol! This was very light and refreshing to pair with a meal. And very easy to drink. RECOMMEND FISH N CHIPS ($18) - When the paper plate of food arrived to the table I was thrilled to bite in. But once I took a bite or two it was mediocre. The meal came with (3) sauces - tartar sauce, ketchup, malt vinegar, and a slice of lemon. The fries were shoe string and they were good - not salty. The fish had that nice light color batter that I usually look for in a fish n chips meal, it was airy and crunchy BUT very bland. No seasoning whatsoever. The fish was average tasring. Ratio of fish to batter, 40:60. I didn't like the inside of the fish n chips, the outside was dry but the inside was a little oily. Where the fish touches the batter was moist and mushy. When the fish falls short of expectation the sauce better pick up the lack. Their tartar sauce was very lovely. Creamy and herbal. To make my bland fish n chips taste better a lot of dunking in tartar and squirting of lemon was necessary. Overall, a bland meal. Until the next review..

Came on Sat afternoon, place was empty but we had a gift card and drove 35 mins to try it out. Place is cute and had a nice patio, smaller place than expected. Food was good but nothing special... I wouldn't make the drive out to dine here, but might consider if in the area. Like others have said, servings are pretty small for the price. I have teenage boys and to them the poke bowl was like a mini snack. Food was just OK, but good service and cute spot.

Great spot for some casual grub and a couple of drinks. This place has an awesome location with a cute little outdoor seating area. Nearly everything on the menu is good, although the portions are a bit on the small side and the price is a bit on the high side for what it is. Otherwise, worth a visit and if they have the elusive "fish wings" on the menu, get them! They're delicious!

Loveee this place!! Seriously sooo good! Love their musubis and poké! Seriously soo good! And love that they have many gluten free options!! Thanks soo much!! The tacos are so good and flavorful too! I enjoyed the fish taco and potato taco! Can't wait to come back and try other items on their menu! It's also in a cute area next to a parking lot.

We stopped in for a quick bite after a hike! Cute patio with some indoor seating available too! Super friendly staff! Food is delicious!!!!! It's like a slice of southern California mixed with a taste of local food from Hawaii. Must try the musubi roll! It's on point! Dog friendly, which was a bonus, because we had our dog with us!

Service was excellent! Ambiance and tables and chairs are clean. This food was mediocre. Bang Bang Cauliflower was hard to eat, drenched in sauce and was very oily. Fish and Chips was excellent! Fried batter was light and flaky and not oily! Yum!

Finally made it over here. Cute little outside area. I got the fish taco and a quesadilla and a diet cola. Quesadilla was so small. It little looked like they only used half of the tortilla. And there was no flavor... they added cabbage on the side for decoration for some reason. The taco was good- tasty. But it's a street taco and it was as not worth the price.... My friend for a poke bowl. It cost almost $20 for her and it came out in the same size small paper bowl and the quesadilla. The cashier was super friendly. Overall. Was glad to try it, but I'll try the other place before coming back

Parking is notoriously tricky here, especially on a weekend at lunch. Ambiance is fun with outdoor seating. Poke sampler was yummy, but expensive for what it was. Kalua pork taco was too greasy for my liking. I've had better poke elsewhere in Encinitas (and more affordable too.)

WOW. Some of the freshest fish in a poke bowl I've had yet. I had the spicy ahi and my boyfriend had the market catch, both were amazing and the sauces were very complementary as well. The pescadero taco was super flavorful for a little street style fish taco. The place itself was pretty cool, it has a lot of outdoor shaded seating and the brewery has a lot of options. Would recommend! I only wish that the poke was served in a bowl and not a cardboard boat, and a little bit more portion-wise would be appreciated for the price but honestly I'll let it slide cause the fish was just so good.

Came here for a quick snack before dinner. The spicy hand roll, toro, and masubi roll were all delicious! It has a chill vibe and open concept with outdoor dining space as well. Easy parking in the front of parking lot.

What a nice time we had at Shoots Fish and Beer. True to it's name this is a great spot for ultra fresh seafood. The DIPA was also deserving of rave reviews. Somewhat surprisingly the Red wine in a can got props too. This friendly, laid back addition to Carlsbad's restaurant scene Is a big hit.

It's not often that I'll go to get food without doing the millenial panic look-at-the-menu-before-heading-out-there-to-make-sure-I-don't-hold-up-the-line-while-ordering, but when I heard that they had tacos and were called "Shoots" I knew I would be quick with my choice. When I saw poke on the menu I knew they would have an Asian feel. Mexican with a hint of Asian? Mexican food? Good. Asian food? Good. Mexican + Asian food? Goooooooooooood. We ordered the Pescaderos and San Miguel tacos, a quesadilla (not my choice but since it was on the table I still ate it), and the Bang Bang Cauliflower. Pescaderos taco: easily the winner here. So freaking good. At first I thought that $5.50 was a boatload of money for a single tiny taco, but this thing is good. Will happily fork over $5.50 for more. San Miguel taco: blah. It's a battered single (albeit, big) shrimp in a taco. It tastes ok but the Pescaderos taco is so freaking good that why bother with this one? Quesadilla: hard pass. It's fine. If you want bland, if your kids want bland, if your picky soon-to-be-ex husband wants bland, get this. Bang Bang Cauliflower: another winner. Just get it.

Shoots is newly opened in Carlsbad village at the Cottages on Roosevelt. The food was excellent and surprisingly creative, vibe was casual and welcoming, and the drink selection looked great, Although we didn't dive into the drinks on this visit, we will on the next, and we definitely dug into the food: Spam Sando was awesome. Hokkaido milk break, egg, american cheese. It was just delicious comfort food. The bang bang shrimp taco and the pescaderos (maybe yellowtail when we visited?) taco were both very flavorful and highly recommended. Cheynes OG Poke with added avocado was well seasoned and balanced, and the warm rice contrasted really well with the cold fish. Tuna Loco Moco was another comfort success - with korean (mildly) spicy sauce in place of gravy. The only dish we wouldn't love to eat again were the "fish wings" (fried fish collars with a similar korean wing sauce). It was still tasty, but it didn't grab us like the rest. Excellent addition to the area, and we're looking forward to heading back!

The poke was fresh and well seasoned with soy sauce, sesame oil, with little bits of cucumber and re onion with a little bit of spice. Enough for my wimpy palate. The pineapple cider was crisp, light and refreshing. Perfect on a breezy, warm Carlsbad afternoon. They have nice relaxing patio with music nearby other eateries. Service was fast and efficient.

You can taste the freshness of the fish here. Tried the OG poke bowl and look forward to coming back and trying more.

This is my first time here! Food was good and April was amazing!!!! Great energy and super friendly! My friends and I stayed for another drink because of Aprils amazing service! It's super rare to come across great service like this!

Not a bad little place, but good luck finding parking. The workers were friendly, but not very interactive. The tacos were small and the fish was dry and overcooked. I would expect more from an $8 taco. Don't recommend.

The fish and chips were delicious! It was my first time here and I will be back! The place has nice atmosphere being in downtown Carlsbad.

Love the location, there's a nice kid friendly seating area. The food was good, but definitely dissapointed by the price to portion size ratio. $6 for taco's that are literally 2 bites. The salad my husband got was good but very small, with a tiny portion of dry aged tuna for $18. With inflation as it is, I understand the price hike. But I need to feel like I'm getting the MEAL I paid for, not just a snack.

Casual venue in village with indoor/ outdoor seating serving beers, tacos and various fish items. I was a bit unsure of what to order but the people there are friendly and offer great suggestions. I had happy hour tacos w beer and it was very good and tasty.

The food here is always amazing and the staff is always really friendly. We love coming here around sunset at least once a week, and just enjoying our meal and seeing all the cute dogs hangout on the patio with all the pretty lights. Highly recommend to anyone who is looking for FRESH fish and a menu with specials that are always changing daily and keeping things exciting. Support your local businesses, and also spread the word about both SHOOTS locations! These guys know how to tingle your taste buds!

I had such a great afternoon lunch! As a person who prides himself on Customer Service... it was 5 star Worked for Hyatt & Sheraton for over 10 years Cara the bartender / server, etc. was great ! Happy Hour from 3-6. I live in Carlsbad and it's such a great neighborhood spot. The Bluefin Sashmini was soo good. And as a Hazy Fan. Shoots Double Hazy IPA was soo soo smooth, one of the best I've ever had !!! FYI - I will definitely be back . It's the full package ! Thank you

Very laid back vibe and the food is killer.I recommend the Pescaderos tacos and they have a rotating menu so I'm sure you can try something new each time you come by. Friendly staff as well :)

Food is great, location is nice, however It is a little pricey. Ordered a couple items and didn't expect the bill to be that much. Fish was fresh though and was a nice assortment of tap options

The food is so fresh, delicious and amazing. I absolutely love Ethan, April, Rachel, Ryan, Andre, Steven, Travis, Laney. I know I'm forgetting a few but everyone is so incredible. The atmosphere is great. There isn't anything I haven't liked. I love the spicy albacore poke, the bang bang shrimp tacos. I always order the blonde beer. I can't wait to go back!

I enjoyed many items from the menu. I became turgid - a little roll over. I couldn't stand up without offending the other dinners. I was slightly erect from the deliciousness. If you suffer from ED come eat here.

Mocha Stout is delicious! If you can take some to go we highly recommended it. We had Pork Taco and Fish & Chips. Wish I had gotten 2 tacos they are scrumptious! Fish& Chip are an 7.5 out of 10.
