"Housed in Andrew Carnegie's former Georgian mansion, the Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum still conserves the original dark wood-lined interiors and imposing staircase, even after closing for a few years for a major upgrade in the hands of Diller Scofidio + Renfro, among others. The shop on the second floor is part of the revamp, too, with the architectural firm's custom modular shelving framing the tailor-made space. The wonderful mix of beautifully designed objects and utilitarian goods remains the same, however, and from designers young and old, from Ben Medansky vases to Tom Dixon spice grinders, and much more. It is by far one of the best museum shops on the planet. "

Google
A well curated and unique collection of design objects, books, posters, and other nick-nacks. Many designs are collectibles and priced accordingly. I gave one star less because as a student I didn't find postcards or affordable souvenirs. I hope these include those in their collection soon.

Yelp
Since my last visit they remodeled. They took out some of the seats. I managed to find one today. I love to come here early AM. It's quiet before the museum opens. The garden is under renovation so it's not time to sit outside. Too chilly yet for me anyway. I'll enjoy all summer coming here as I have in the past. Central Park is right across the street!

Yelp
Got spoken to very sharply by a thin, dark-haired woman today because we opened a publicly available drawer beneath a notebook display to see if there was a new one underneath. The woman saw me looking in the drawer and said to me snidely, "miss, we don't do that, if you need help ask." She didn't even ask what we had been looking for or offer to help. We were completely shocked by her openly hostile tone and left immediately without the several items we had been planning to buy. I get that she didn't want us in that drawer, but her reaction was unhinged. I'm 43 and don't think I've ever been spoken to this way in any shop. I later found and bought the notebook I wanted on Amazon.

Yelp
My friends and I rushed out with enthusiasm on a brisk Saturday morning in January to visit the Cooper-Hewitt Museum. Alas, in our excitement, we inconveniently forgot to eat breakfast before hitting the exhibits. Luckily, for us, there is The Cafe at Cooper-Hewitt Museum. And what a jewel it is. You walk through a sunny, windowed corridor with modern yet retro looking tables and chairs to find this little cafe, which is located downstairs in the southeast corner of the building. Of course, the price of the food is to be expected, since they are well-aware that your blood sugar is low from taking in so much fabulous design history. However, I had the most delicious vegetarian spinach-pita wrap, with balsamic vinaigrette, olive tampanada, portobello mushrooms, fresh leaves of spinach, red bell peppers, and hummus. TO DIE FOR. It was a large portion and I could hardly finish half, but I tucked the other half into my bag to eat later. Yes, it's pricey, but if you want to eat food that tastes good, not just looks good, this place fits the bill. If you're unwilling to pay museum prices, then stop in here for a chocolate-chunk cookie... an AMAZING buy and a quick pick-me-up, for less than a dollar!!!!!!!

Yelp
This is their gift shop, and there's no need for ticket. Don't miss the offshoot area that's a bit dark and kinda easy to miss, which has the best stuff, of course at the highest prices (even for members).

Yelp
Great place to discover. You don't need a ticket to the museum to have a cup of coffee here. It is clean and quite.

Yelp
This is a nice spot to have a cup of coffee, even if your not visiting the museum. Have tables outside and lots of windows in the indoor seating area. Food is average
