The 33 Best Restaurants In Melbourne 2023

"There are more first-rate ramen shops in Melbourne than you can chuck a wheat noodle at, but for something left-of-center look for the glowing neon-red sign promising “ramen, bun & pie” in Fitzroy. Once inside, dig into generous bowls of shoyu broth topped with pork belly and oyster mushrooms, or miso with barbecue chicken and sweet corn. The promised pies are frozen desserts in flavors like raspberry-yuzu, banana cream, or chocolate, marshmallow, and jam. Like most ramen joints, this is a goodie for solo diners." - ellen fraser

Shop Ramen - Review - Fitzroy - Melbourne - The Infatuation

"There are more first-rate ramen shops in Melbourne than you can chuck a wheat noodle at, but for something left-of-center, look for Shop Ramen’s noodle-shaped neon sign advertising “ramen, bun & pie” (or “biru”, or “sake”, depending on which location you choose). Slurping is encouraged as you delve into generous bowls of miso broth with barbecue chicken, burnt cabbage, and buttered corn, or tan tan men with beef brisket and melted American cheese. The promised pies have a cookie crumb base and twin layers of ice-cream in flavors like chocolate-peanut or matcha and black sesame. True to its ramen roots, this is a goodie for solo diners." - Ellen Fraser

Incredible. Walked past before it opened and it was empty (ofc) and 15 mins later walked back past and it was packed! Lucky to get a table without a reservation, sat at a communal table which was actually a wonderful experience. A long line of hungry people guzzling / slurping noodles and soup. The service was attentive and generous and the food came out very quickly. The ramen was the best I've had in a long time. Deep rich broth, bouncy chewy perfect noodles and yummy well cooked pork belly chunks. Bliss. When i left there was a line of people outside 20 deep. This is obviously a very popular place and I had no idea. The cost was low and it was a place you come eat and chat and leave. Not a place to linger too long. I'll be back!

I had the chance to try this place, and I must say, it was a pleasant experience. The portion size was good, and it was definitely filling perfect if you’re looking for something that will satisfy your hunger without leaving you wanting more. The flavours were well balanced and complemented each other nicely.

Very good food, fast service. 45 minutes slot, which is enough. More than decent portion sizes to keep you full. Vegan + gluten free options

Coincidentally found this ramen shop while strollin around Fitzroy. What caught our eye was how the place was already full just 15 mins after opening?? We immediately decided to have lunch here. Lucky us, there was one table left outside, and the weather was perfect for ramen! Ordered the tan tan beef brisket ramen and it was superb! The broth was super savory, you can tell they simmered it for a long time to get that depth of flavor. The noodle texture was great, and we loved the brisket beef! Super soft, juicy, and breaks apart easily. It had so much fat, which is a big plus for us! The broth was spicy and had that peanut-y kick, but still felt really fresh in this weather. Just had to finish it fast before it gets cold if you’re sitting outside 😂

This is not ramen at all. I saw this shop on a instagram food influencer’s reel. I ordered shoyu pork belly ramen. First there is no umi in the broth at all. It’s just water and a tiny soy sauce. The Chinese broccoli and king oyster mushroom doesn’t match at all. I tasted the raw muschroom texture and taste from it. Staff is not welcoming. I wasn’t speak to, but pointed to where to be seated. Tasted like Wagamama if anyone can correlate.

One of the very few ramen shops that I would revisit. Actually it’s one of the best in Melbourne! Broth is on the lighter side which I really like as it doesn’t leave me feeling too overwhelmed. The buns were really good too~

Haven’t been here for years, ramen is much better now than then. Pork belly ramen was great, nice broth.
