Shorebird

We came here for Saturday brunch, and the location right by the Newport Beach harbor makes it instantly special. The interior is modern, airy, and gives off a very chill, relaxed vibe. We ordered the scallops, which were beautifully cooked and paired with an excellent sauce. The Crab Egg Benedict and the omelette were also great—flavorful and generously portioned. The service was warm and attentive, which made the whole experience feel even more welcoming. Really enjoyed our experience here, and I’m already looking forward to coming back to try their dinner menu next time.

Food was very good and flavorful but service was not great. Dishes were dirty and the waiters forgot what we asked for. The restaurant was noisy as there were many big groups. It was super cold.

Several people at our hotel recommended the Shorebird to us and we were not disappointed. Our waitress was fantastic and made some great recommendations. The menu is varied and interesting, but the food was incredible. Beautifully presented and delicious. We had a table by the waterfront and it was a perfect night out for a romantic dinner.

We had an amazing dinner at Shorebird. The food was great and they have a killer atmosphere right on the water. (Boats and yachts everywhere) Yep, the location is sick. I highly recommend this place. Newport Beach is spectacular.

This was our first time at Shorebird and it did not disappoint! Everything was amazing. All 4 of us really enjoyed the Avacado fries and the deviled eggs. The chicken and waffles were cooked to perfection. My son really liked his Carne adovada y huevos. I might have to get that next time. Great price. Good food. Great service and a nice view of the marina. We definitely will be back again.

Stunning restaurant, underground parking lot and validated parking. Decent alcohol menu, very nice staff. The Hamachi crudo was ok, nothing to write home about. All the sushi was imitation crab. No variety for the oysters. My risotto was undercooked and extremely citrus forward. $200 for an app, two beers, two entrees, 1 dessert.

They have a nice dining area with indoor and outdoor seating which has a view of the water. Need to get rid of the fake, plastic flowers and the thumping music but overall the atmosphere is nice. The Avocado Fries were yummy and the Sea Bass was cooked perfectly and so delicious. Service was a little slow, the entrees were not brought out together so we had to wait so we could eat together. Seems like a good place for a date night.

Absolutely loved our experience at Shorebird! We ordered the Waygu Burger, avocado fries, a bottle of wine, Lido Roll and finished off with the pineapple carrot cake. Every single item was phenomenal. The flavors were spot on, the presentation was beautiful, and the service made the evening even better. Highly recommend for a memorable night out!

had Brunch at Shorebird today! it was too notch! Everything was amazing, my wife got the crab Benedict and I got the Chicken and waffles! Both were outstanding! we could have shared a meal, portions are good size! Love that about them! Anyway our server was awesome , forget his name but he was from Scotland and had the Scotland charm and hospitality warmth going on ! the view is fantastic and they have overhead heaters everywhere keeping everyone warm. The margarita are amazing and so are the espresso martinis! Great experience for brunch! Thanks to all!

Great ambience, good service but food was ok. Many options were out like chilean sea bass and Shorebird special chicken etc.. I wish they had more options.

Great location for this restaurant and I'm gonna tell you some of the best service that we have had , very attentive. They put us at the very back of the restaurant which in my opinion is the front because it was literally on the boardwalk as close to the boats as you can possibly get however, it was a bit far off from the other tables, but our waiter made it a point to keep coming back even though I feel like it was out of his way he kept coming back to ask us how everything was did we want more wine? Is there anything else he can get us? Can I turn the heater up? He was Amazing(I only wish I had remembered his name. I think he was Italian.) My favorite for the night was the Hawaiian style meatballs, pineapple citrusy really good Wagyu beef . I must say the wine list is so impressive so many different wines from Napa Valley, WillametteOregon , Paso , Sonoma, so many different great choices in wines Of course they have a full bar . This place gets a little vibey, a little bit later with the younger generation, but we had a reservation for 630. It was perfect.

Great setting. Hostess was very friendly. Open air- On a nice evening, be sure to request outside seating for a nice bay view. The food was excellent. We started with a spicy tuna egg roll. My husband had the scallops and I the sea bass. Great job chef! We both loved our dinner. Our server wasn't very attentive. He was friendly when he was at the table, but only came by once after we had been served, with his hands full. He asked if we needed anything as he walked by. Fly n Fish and 21 Oceanfront had always been my go-to spots when I went to the Newport Peninsula. I used to drive by the crab cooker to show people the area after the whole "sinking" debacle. Well, pretty sure that pre "epidemic" I saw construction occurring. My security buddy Stacy (he had a girls name but was tough and mean and loved me) told me that shorebird is not going to be a bird store. Come mid 2020, I ended up going to "the Bird" (I like to call it) and found out how sick it was. My bday is in July and threw my bday party there that year. And the next year and than Hanukkah in the glass room. This guy Osvaldo was always my point person. He would point at me and say to the other servers that I should be cut off. Well, luckily he moved up the ladder than (beyond well deserved) and still gives me a hard time. Point being. I go to the bird because of the environment and friendship and respect I get when I arrive. Ozzie has made the place so welcoming that I will go there just for the people. The food is great. The head chef (Mohawk boy) still treats me like I'm a homeless guy and pays me no respect. Truth be told, if Ozzie didn't work there, I would stop going. Fyi. My old Yelp account had 313 reviews and cuz of bad service at Joey and my messages, it got cancelled. Trust me. I know good food and good people.

Truly enjoyed our time at this restaurant. It's very pretty, clean and great views. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. We went for brunch and it was pretty empty but it was great. The food was delicious. We started with oysters , balboa roll and crab cakes. For entree ordered the chicken sandwich and burger. Everything was delicious. For Drinks we ordered the peach sangria and passion Fruit drop

Came here for a going away dinner. Very cute place located next to the water. Plenty of seating everywhere. Was greeted nicely and was told her table would be ready shortly even though we were late going here. There is a parking garage to the left of the restaurant so plenty of parking and can be validated. We got a few appetizers to try, the meatballs, spicy tuna egg roll, balboa roll, garlic roll and albacore roll. The meatballs were good but a little too saucy for me, I didn't try the egg roll, and the 3 rolls we got were all good. For my entree I got the filet mignon. It was good but it tasted too char for me. The risotto was yummy! I did try the sea bass and that was yummy and moist which was nice. For the dessert we got the bananas, brownie and carrot cake. All were delicious! Definitely a great night at this yummy place

This place has a nicer ambience to it. Well decorated and more of a higher end vibe to it, which made it perfect for my birthday dinner gathering for about 13 of my girlfriends. The service was quick and efficient and the drinks were absolutely delicious. The sushi roll I got was decent and the crabcake was really good. I would like to come back for brunch as I hear it's really good and during the day there's a beautiful view of the ocean. I would recommend making a reservation in advance so that you don't have to wait, but it seemed like there was quite a bit of people sitting at the bar, which would be a fun time as well. The parking here seems like it can be a little tricky as it's on the peninsula, and I did not confirm if they validate for the parking structure underneath.

This place was quite busy during Sunday brunch, so I highly suggest making a reservation. I had one a requested to be seating outside in the patio but it was sadly full. The patio has a beautiful view of the water. Parking can be quite difficult in Newport Beach. There is free parking underground near the entrance of the restaurant. Make sure to get it validated before leaving! Nothing better than getting good cocktails along side brunch food as well as a raw sushi menu too. This place hits all of those. The food was overall very delicious. I was accidentally charged for the free check in avocado fries but the manger was nice enough to give me a refund after I called them the following day.

Beautiful restaurant by the water. Definitely recommend outdoor seating. Food at shorebird is pretty good quality but nothing mind blowing. It's a solid breakfast option that is pretty average pricing for portions. Potatoes in the steak and eggs dish as well as the Benedict were disappointing since it just tasted like steamed potatoes even though I'm sure they're prepared differently. The steak was enjoyable and the meatballs as well but the sauce didn't make much of a difference for the steak dish. Service wasn't good. It was definitely winding down and yet they were still slow. Staff is kind though so it makes up for it.

Came in for lunch with a reservation. Our reservation note said that we had a dog and we also saw other yelpers had also brought dogs in, however when the FOH seated us, she visually looked like she did not want us to be there. Service from our waitress was good but it took a long time to get each course. We were sat at 1pm and had drinks and apps served and had our entrees served 40 minutes later. I ordered the chicken sandwich and requested for it to be spicy but it was not spicy at all.

I would absolutely come here again!! The atmosphere/location is very nice! Right on the water with a beautiful view. Decor is very elevated and pretty. The food and drinks were delicious!! The service was great! The host was a bit reserved but not rude. Our server was so nice and attentive. Definitely recommend coming here for a nice meal or special occasion.

Food was okay, nothing crazy to rave about. My sangria was water down. The view was the best part. Service was just okay by our waiter, Chandler. With that said, I'd like to give a huge shout out to the busier Luis. He was a jem, welcoming, friendly, super attentive, always asking if we need anything. Which is something you'd look for in a waiter. Luis would deserve the 5 stars for the review. Thank you Luis for going above and beyond your job!

Shorebird is a pretty cool spot with a solid menu. We had decent service and the view out of the back is awesome. We only stopped in to get a few apps, which were all excellent. I want to come back and try an entree to really get a feel for the place. Cheers!

New to Newport and I am enjoying all these recent finds. Repeatedly experiencing such amazing service and loving the area. Had to note my recent experience with Shorebird's exceptional service from Rudi. Now, seeing and reading others' comments, I am making a mental note to revisit since all these photos and reviews show their dining interior is one to experience. I can only comment that their takeout service is superb so far. I already feel like it's a special occasion even with their takeout sushi! Rudi prepares some of the best sushi rolls I've had! I loved all his recommendations. Their sauces are delicious and make their sushi rolls stand out!! I can't rave enough about the sauces, especially their wasabi sauce- wow!! I'm not even a fan of wasabi, but this one I could eat on its own. But accompanying their sushi rolls, it's a perfect blend. Thank you so much, Rudi! By far one of my best restaurant experiences I've come across here, being new to Newport Beach. Rudi, and your staff are fantastic, Shorebird. Looking forward to visiting again soon.

Fantastic ambiance, decor, and view!!! Can't beat the location if you're looking for a private elevated place for a romantic lunch/brunch/dinner or simply cocktail hour with good friends/colleagues/family. Been here on several occasions for all of the above and have had a great time. For location it deserves a 5 star definitely! However, have to say the food wasn't the bests. Overall the dishes have been more on the saltier side. Don't have pics for all of my visits but here are some I can share from my recent outings 1. Lemon Caesar salad with side of grilled chicken: good salad but a bit heavy on the dressing than would have liked. The chicken did ease it up a bit. Wouldn't mind ordering again but would prob ask for them to go easy on the dressing the next time 2. Spicy tuna roll: like the avocado roll but with a few tuna in it. Spicy mayo sauce on side to dip. Not very good 3. Crispy Cauliflower: cauliflower served on butter lettuce. Drizzled with coconut milk and ginger honey. Not bad. 4. Jay Bird's Chicken sandwich with onion rings: very pretty presentation; got it spicy. Was ok but have had better 5. Gator Island Salmon Mignon: very tender and perfectly cooked salmon with carrot and cauliflower sidesz. Pretty good. 6. Also had Benedict (I believe) for brunch about one year ago. At the time I felt it was a bit on the salty side. I blame this on my late night prior and prob dehydration. No pics to confirm lol

Beautiful restaurant that has an easy structured parking for a 2hrs validation. It was a bit tough to find parking to go to Balboa beach but their parking was convenient to try this restaurant. It's an open doors layout with a great view of the ocean/port where the boats at parked. The food was decent, with my favorite being the lido (salmon) roll. The deviled eggs had a tad bit too much egg yolk (I've seen other tables left theirs unfinished), and the oysters weren't as fresh as other places. Regardless, it was all beautifully presented and I had a great time enjoying the sun at their patio overlooking the port.

Stunning harbor views, convenient parking, and exceptional service make this Newport Beach restaurant a must-visit! We celebrated my friend's birthday here on a Saturday and had an unforgettable experience. The appetizers we shared were mouth-watering, especially the Over-stuffed Bacon and Eggs, A5 Wagyu Meatballs, and Buffalo Onion Rings. For my entree, I ordered the popular "Jay Bird Chicken Sandwich," which was generously portioned and left me feeling satisfied. The service was top-notch, with friendly staff and a host who went above and beyond. She even helped me fill a vase with water for our table! Overall, we had a fantastic time enjoying the beautiful views, delicious food, and warm hospitality. Highly recommend for special occasions. You won't be disappointed!

We celebrated our friend's birthday here. The service was impeccable. It had beautiful harbor views with attached outdoor dining area. Both the appetizers and entrees were a bit salty for my taste, but overall I enjoyed the food there. Will definitely be back in the future They have a parking structure nearby, which is convenient especially in Newport area. No valet parking

Great location. Good ambiance. Came for Happy Hour tonight (Thursday) Joey? our bartender was wonderful and informative on the menu and the ingredients. Sat at the bar and had Wagyu meatballs (yum), Catalina Roll and a Caesar. Food service was prompt and professional. Definitely will return.

My boyfriend and I had an incredible Valentine's dinner, and everything about the experience was perfect! The atmosphere was romantic with a great view at the edge of the patio, the food recommendations that were made by Arturo were delicious, and the service was top-notch! Our server Arturo went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed, checking in at just the right moments and making us feel truly taken care of. His attention to detail and warm personality made our evening even more special. Thank you Arturo!!!!

The Shorebird is my absolute favorite restaurant in Newport Beach. I don't say that lightly. We started with the avocado fries, A5 Wagyu meatballs, and Japanese black cod. All of which were incredibly flavorful. It was my first time trying fried avocado, and I truly enjoyed it! The meatballs were perfectly juicy, yet flashed on the outside for that perfect texture. The black cod was prepared carpaccio style with slices jalapeño on top, which is always terrific. The team was on point ensuring we were in a suitable location for a group of 10. Every so often the server would visit to ensure our drinks are delicious and experience was as expected. The drinks were delicious, and the wine selection is superb. Everything from the ambiance to the decor is elevated. I highly recommend this location.

Came here on a Saturday morning around 11:30. I was actually surprised that it wasn't too busy. We were seated on the patio where the ships go by. The service was great for the most part. For drinks we got Bloody Marys and bottomless mimosas. The Bloody Mary was honestly kind of boring; it just had a piece of celery and an olive, but tasted ok. We ordered a bunch of food. The avocado fries were so good. Such a unique texture. I had the eggs Benedict and the eggs were actually poached perfectly. The oysters were also very good. My friends ordered chicken and waffles and one of their sushi rolls. Will definitely be back.

What a great place! Glad we found it. We had Wagu burger Delicious, and Jay bird spicy Chicken sandwich, moist meat. For dessert we had brownie delish melts in your mouth! Awesome atmosphere, relaxing patio seating. We will be back for more great food!

I've tried the location in Sedona, and loved it so decided to try the Newport location while we were here. We shared a Caesar salad, oysters, skirt steak, and the brownie ice cream for desert. Everything was pretty good, except I didn't care too much for the steak sauce, but the perfect medium rare cook made up for it. The restaurant itself was a great ambiance, and our waiter was very friendly.

The rating is truly due to the FOH ladies and our server, Chandler. They were the least welcoming, only providing bare minimum service. They came off very dry with little effort on customer engagement. I came to celebrate my birthday, which was mentioned in the reservation, but never acknowledged. Chandler could not even produce any bit of conversation, outside of taking our order, to allow us to mention a celebration, so it was not worth it. Overall, I would recommend Shorebird for the food, drinks, and ambience. Our server assistant was very attentive and checked on us often during a very light mid-afternoon service. When we left, the bartender was very friendly and gave us the brightest send off. If service was on par with these two, I would definitely give a higher rating.

Pretty space on the water... good drinks and service. Some food we tried though, like the meatballs and sushi, could use more subtle flavoring-- except for the Caesar salad, which would have greatly benefited by fresh anchovies. Also, had trouble tasting the crab in the crab sushi roll.

I've never had a bad meal here. The veggie tacos are definitely my go to, but all of their sushi rolls are great. Also servers are really nice and really fun atmosphere. Good spot to watch football games at the bar too.

Always a pleasure to dine here. Love the ambiance and the service is always great. Our food this time was delicious we shared the crab cakes and had some oysters. My entree of skirt steak was delicious and the brownie dessert sublime !! Love the views from the outside patio. Parking is very easy lot right next door or street parking. The wine is great had some Patz&Hall !

This restaurant had great service and ambiance! We were visiting from out of town so I might have had too high of expectations, but I was underwhelmed by the food. I've had better seafood in landlocked states unfortunately. But I would still return for the location!

Came here to celebrate my bro-in-law's bday, appropriate place to do so. Service was great! Loved our wait staff. Totally attentive and helpful. One point off for not having a changing table in the restroom for babies, but perhaps this sort of establishment doesn't want crying babies disrupting the vibe. I get that. Food was delicious! Husband got the lemon ricotta pancakes. SIL got the chilaquiles, BIL got the chicken and waffles, parents got the pulled pork. The tempura avocado appetizer was good, too! I got the mushroom omelette with roasted tomatoes. I was expecting something like a branch of roasted cherry tomatoes alongside the omelette but I guess it was folded into it, didn't really notice them in there. The standout in my meal was actually the sides of smashed potatoes with a lemon aioli sauce and the sourdough toast that I can spread strawberry preserves and honey butter on. I wanted to take a jar of the honey butter home, it was that yummy! The decor and view of the harbor was lovely, people watching was interesting. Definitely surrounded by the elite of OC...not judging, just observing that there was a good handful of plastic surgeried folks with bandages on their faces enjoying their meal. Felt like I was sitting in on one of those reality shows like the real housewives of OC.

During a roadtrip, the husband and I decided to come here for dinner. The hostess could have done a bit better. She was busy doing something and pointed over to the bar and a nearby table saying that's what's available. We went and sat ourselves. The rest of the experience was flawless! We had an amazing server with the most beautiful accent. I wanted to have him sit down at the table and just continue to speak. We ended up doing a bunch of appetizers and sides so we could have a nice variety of things. That was 100% the best choice we made. Everything was absolutely delicious! Though my husband and I did joke that whatever we have for dessert will have basil and jalapeño on it because it was on everything we ordered. Our server was amazing. He was quick and attentive. The ambiance was spot on, from the music to decorate and even the lighting. We were impressed. Even the area the restaurant is in is nice. We pulled Zillow out to look at real estate here (way out of our budget) all because of this restaurant and experience.

Came to celebrate my bf and i's anniversary and was blown away by the beautiful view and ambience. The entire patio is open from inside the restaurant and lights up wonderfully (especially with the sunset). The sushi and other menu items come out separately because of their kitchen system so we had to wait for a bit for our food but it was ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS when it came out! Our waiter was very knowledgeable and provided a welcoming experience. Planning to come back for happy hour!

Shorebird is a scenic open air concept restaurant serving a very California esque brunch. Not pictured were the hamachi crudo and few other rolls we ordered prior to the brunch items. All the food was amazing but the stand outs were the Hokkaido scallops and the smashed potatoes that accompanied many dishes from their brunch menu. Our server kept the espresso martinis and vibes coming and I could definitely see myself returning to check out their dinner menu.

The food was really amazing, it was flavorful, I suggest the wagu meatballs. The mango drink was so good & strong, and the espresso martini was perfect. The ambiance was really beautiful, the lighting was dim & it was a great experience. The bathrooms were clean and parking was easy. The service got better as the night went along.

It's the end of January and it took them 6 months to finish construction so I didn't think I would be walking into an open air restaurant when it was raining and cold. How on earth do you charge $56 for food when it's freezing and the drinks are another $30 each when you couldn't be less relevant?

Wonderful view and beautiful restaurant. The menu was large with lots of options we decided on the scallop skewers to begin with they were flavorful but small. The lemon Caesar salad was really good loved the fresh flavor of lemon and well dressed as well. For entrees we did the salmon mignon which was delicious the middle wasn't fully but I'm not sure if that was intended (we didn't mind either way) and the sauce that came along with it paired amazing. The chicken was nice and crispy but not moist. Finished with the chocolate brownie which was crisp on the outside with a chewy center it was good!

Great ambiance!! Super cute and not too loud despite being a big room. Service was great. Food was okay- I had a Cesar salad with chicken which was weirdly the last thing to be brought out in a table for six and the chicken was on the side... lettuce was warm. Everyone else seemed to enjoy their meal tho so maybe just skip the Cesar!

The wagyu meatballs are a MUST get. The food was delicious and portions were huge. Vibe is gorgeous on a nice day. Service was quick and friendly.

I made a reservation 3 months early and requested a table on the patio near the water and listed the allergies for the table to inform the kitchen staff ahead of time. When I got there, the lady tried seating us near the bar. I reminded her that we requested a table on the patio closest to the water. She said it was not a problem and that they had a table ready there. We get to the patio area and there were two open tables available and instead of sitting us at one of those tables, she sat us inside next to the employee door. We decided just to sit where she sat us, not a big deal. When the waiter came, I informed him of my allergies and was told there wasn't many options that accommodated my allergies. After order food, the waiter came back two times (after having written down my allergies) asking what the allergies were. I appreciate him being thorough but he wrote it down two times and still did not have my three food allergies correct. Once we got the food, we were disappointed with the portion size and the flavor of the food given how expensive the food is. The skirt steak was flavorless, the chicken tacos were mediocre at best, the asparagus was burnt, and the fries tasted like Carl's Jr. The one item that had great flavor and we actually enjoyed, believe it or not, was the Smoked Ketchup. If you are gluten free or nut free, I would highly recommend skipping out on this place, unless you enjoy salmon or sword fish.

Another amazing experience here. Delicious cocktails, food and amazing service by Gustavo. These days great service is hard to come by and they hit the mark! The ambiance cannot be beat as its next to the water and boats cruise by.

Our salad and seafood plates were all fresh and had delicious flavor combinations. Service was friendly and the restaurant has a pleasant atmosphere with a view of the boats in the channel.
