Where To Eat With Kids In The Bay Area, According To Caroline Chambers

"Shoreline is such a vibe. It's literally at the beach and it's the ultimate go-to for a slow, relaxing breakfast. Get some blueberry pancakes and huevos la Mexicana, bring along your beach toys and some layers and take your time. Your kids will love playing in the sand and running around in the water." - patrick wong

Google
Nice cafe. I ordered a Burrito Gringo, good flavor if a bit mild. My only critique is that the hash browns inside were really undercooked, giving it a wet and raw potato texture. A good crisp would have made a huge difference. House made Pico de Gallo was nice. Very friendly staff.

Google
Our servers were really friendly but we could barely talk over children shouting. It's super loud and we went elsewhere after to use the bathroom because of how messy it was. Wouldn't go back

Google
Everything here was amazing. The food, staff, atmosphere. We are here for 2 days and will eat breakfast here both days as we don't expect to find anything better. GF options make this the best for us.

Google
Hubby and I quickly googled a spot to grab a coffee and something to eat before headed to Northern Cali. He had the egg-a-muffin and I had the breakfast sandwich. Both meals were delicious. Coffee was hot and freshly made. Service was quick and attentive.

Google
had the pleasure of making this spot my lunch home for the last few weeks. the staff is super friendly and the buffalo chicken kale salad is to die for. 1000% recommend.

Stopped in after hiking Muir Woods. Large menu, tasty food, and great service.

Google
Shoreline may not dazzle with its food, but it shines in all the right ways. It’s a cozy, convenient stop when you’re on the go, and the welcoming, attentive staff truly elevate the experience. Whether you’re grabbing a quick coffee or a simple bite, the warmth of the service makes it a place worth returning to.

Google
Came 10 minutes before closing and everyone was nice. Had a lunch. French toast is so good. Burrito is good too. Toast not sweet at all and whipped cream is amazing ! Highly recommend

Yelp
A tuna melt for the ages! Delicious ahi tuna, just toasted enough on fantastic bread. Cochinita pork is also not to be missed. Two in our party split a burger and fries. They agreed it was one of the best in memory, and it was enough to carry them through an afternoon hike. Cute outside patio. Inside looks run down, but it's clean as a whistle. Very friendly, fun servers for a chill weekday lunch. Parking was fine on a weekday. Also the lot is Walgreens-adjacent, which is great because you always need something at Walgreens, right?

Yelp
Wow, this place truly exceeded my expectations! Came here on a Sunday during the summer time to seek a post hike lunch. This place is slightly tucked away in the parking lot of this little plaza. Very nice outdoor seating with umbrellas for shade, and definitely dog friendly outside! I got the BLT and was pleasantly surprised that the bread was amazing and the tomatoes were so juicy. I had a hard time initially deciding what to get, but when I saw how nice the bacon looked at the next table over, I had to get the BLT! Staff is very friendly here and the timing of the service is very nicely paced.

Yelp
1) Food has no flavor. I ordered the huevos à la Mexicana. It literally tasted like nothing or maybe like cardboard. The chef puts zero effort into trying to cultivate flavors 2) when I gave feedback to the server about it, he was just defensive and said "well we can't please everyone" 3) the owner of the café, sits outside at a guest table and screams at his phone on speakerphone, which ruins the relaxing vibe for everyone 4) the entire place, gives off a dirty dingy low budget diner vibe that hasn't been cleaned in a decade. I felt like I needed gloves to use the bathroom.

Yelp
Shoreline Coffee Shop is THE very best breakfast place in MV or anywhere around for me Service is great, Sam the manager has an eye on everything like conducting an orchestra Run , dont just go ...

Yelp
Super cute local brunch place with a nice dog friendly patio and friendly service. I LOVE the Egg-A-Muffin. It comes with cochinita pork, eggs, and cheese and it's drool-worthy. The breakfast burrito gringo is really good too - pro tip, sub in the cochinita pork. YUM.

Yelp
Brief wait by leaving your name on the clipboard. Out door seating weather permitting, service was quick and friendly. Serving size actually seemed small for breakfast/price. We weren't asked if we wanted a 2nd mimosa (missed opportunity). Nice local place, I'm on the fence...

Yelp
Came here for breakfast. It was good. Portions are not too big. Service was friendly and they had plenty of space inside or outside to accommodate our party of 6.

Yelp
I always love old school hash browns - not home fries or some other iteration of breakfast potatoes - I like the shredded, browned and buttery hash browns...and Shoreline Coffee Shop has a great version of hash browns. It's the only thing I've had there, and they were delicious, tasty and crispy.
google avatar

Andrew B.

Yelp
Shoreline coffee shop is a classic breakfast spot that never disappoints. Food always comes out quickly and service is always on point. I recommend adding the cheddar and jalapeños to your hash-browns. There is both indoor and outdoor seating.
google avatar

Kellee T.

Yelp
Shhhhh!!! It's a secret. I've been here before but had forgotten just how good the food is here. They have amazing bread, just saying. I tried the hash browns with cheese & jalapeños today as well & as simple as it is----so good, so cheesy. I am one that keeps a salt & pepper shaker at hand at all times & barely used it here. The bacon was crispy. My b9yfriend got the meatloaf & enjoyed it. I got the breakfast sandwich. It took a minute to get seated, there is both indoor & outdoor seating, but once we did the staff was very curtious & helpful. A bit noisy inside due to the people in a small space & the expresso machine.

Yelp
I love it here! Just had the "rotos" with a little extra pulled chicken and a side of toast! Perfect. Peaceful breakfast on a Thursday morning! Loved the service and the bottomless cup of coffee! Wife had an egg dish which she loved, too!

Yelp
We had a delightful brunch here with friends today. The service was excellent from start to finish- we were able to park right in front, were seated at an outdoor table on their dog-friendly patio, and waited on promptly. The servers were friendly, and the ambiance was warm and welcoming, with lots of families and dogs hanging out and having a good time. After some deliberation (there were more than a few options on the menu I wanted to try- I guess I'll have to come back for more :)) I decided on the stuffed brioche french toast and a mimosa, both were delicious. My only regret was not ordering a side of fries (a friend did, and they looked absolutely yummy). The food was ready fairly quickly after ordering, and the overall experience was very enjoyable. We'll be back for sure.

Dash R.

Yelp
Tasty food. Quick service. Nice outdoor seating. A little pricey for the quality and serving size and limited ambiance. A bit rustic. Staff is not attentive, seemed disorganized. Empty ice tea and water glasses. Overall, it's a decent place. However, finding parking is a challenge especially during the weekend. The restroom is in desperate need of mopping and cleaning.

Yelp
The food was delicious, and the staff very accommodating. We had a large group of friends for lunch.

Yelp
Awesome place! The food is amazing! Everything I have had here is great! The breakfast burrito was delicious (pico de gallo on side is the play!) I had to post a pic of the Brioche Stuffed French Toast because it was insanely good, and I couldn't find any other pics of it on Yelp. I remembered to snap a pic half way through! Great Spot!!

Yelp

Yelp
Love this place. Great coffee and the breakfast sandwich is crazy good. Tried a wrap before too which was awesome. Hash browns delish too. Super cute decor and ambiance. Been a few times in the last couple months. Would go every week if I lived closer!

Yelp
we came in on a weekday midmorning and stood in the entryway as 5 to 10 employees walked past us for at least 5 to 7 minutes without making eye contact or acknowledging us. The food was good but they could use a lesson in good customer service and greeting customer when they come into your premises to give you their hard earned money from their wallet.

Yelp
i got the happies when i ate avacado toes. this place smelles heavenly. it's not on the shore but close enough. long line but for good reason and good service. Ambiance is stunning, like pop off queen

Yelp
Excellent service, friendly staff and phenomenal food. Old school diner ambiance very comfy cozy. 10/10 fantastic! Homemade hot sauce on the table is addictive!

Yelp
Don't let any negative reviews fool you... this place is God's greatest gift to Marin. Breakfast meat loaf, juevos rancheros, mole, machaca hash, egg-a-muffin are all hella good. And BONUS they serve blue bottle coffee that is smackin. Their lunch menu also has good options. I particularly like the buffalo chicken sandwich and cochinta pork tacos. The service is always good, they are very nice people who have worked there for a long time. Shoreline Coffee Shop is reminiscent of an old school family style diner but, somehow it's a little different. I think everything they serve is organic. Anyone who wrote a negative review about this place is a stuck up Marin clown who has a problem with everything... you know the type. This place has been consistently great for the 10 years I've been going.

Yelp
I took a break from work, because I am traveling. The service was consistent. The staff made sure I was attended to, and accommodated all my needs. This was a delightful brunch. The coffee was yummy. I ordered poached eggs with gluten free toast. My breakfast was delicious and fresh. The restaurant really cares about the quality and it shows. I enjoyed a solo breakfast, now back to work. Thank you! :)

Yelp
Good coffee, breakfast came out fast, hot, and tasty! Service was friendly and quick! Ambience is a nice little diner vibe!

Yelp
I live within walking distance of the Shoreline Coffee shop and have walked by it hundreds of times over the past couple of years and FINALLY stopped in for breakfast over the weekend. It was hard to decide what to order given so many things on the menu sound delicious. My niece and I both ordered the Santi's Huevos Rancheros. The eggs and beans were cooked to perfection and the dish had great flavor overall. We went at 9am and it wasn't too busy so we were able to get a table outside. We appreciated that they offer Stumptown coffee and enjoyed a mocha and a latte. Service was quick, efficient and friendly. It's a great local spot and perfectly situated for locals and tourists who are either heading up the mountain or to the beach. There aren't a lot of coffee shops like this around any more. It's a true gem of a spot.

Yelp
Trust me, you want to get the salad with the pork belly crackles on it.It's called the breakfast salad.Get the dressing on the side always.... Be patient with the staff.Because everyone loves it here.Everyone wants to get in to have a good breakfast

Yelp
Prices are higher in the shop than on their online menu. Eggs were incredibly undercooked - the whites were still runny. I asked them to cook them more because (as the server knew) we ordered for our toddler, and the server started arguing that they were not undercooked... not a pleasant experience.
google avatar

Jason J.

Yelp
Went here with my mom, we both ordered the tacos and a coffee. $65. Hmm what is going on around here? The food was pretty good but can't justify paying these kinds of prices.

Yelp
This was a great little breakfast diner. We stopped here on our way to Muir Woods and left ready to face the day! I ordered 2 eggs scrambled with cheese and seeded wheat toast. Everything was fresh and delicious. I had wanted to try the breakfast burrito, but because my taste buds are a "little picky", I asked if I could special order it. They do not do special orders. But I was happy with what I got. My husband said the raspberry jam was good. If we lived here, we would definitely become regulars!

Zoe G.

Yelp
I am so disappointed. Multiple times Ive ordered the breakfast sandwich for pick up and loved that is was coming from a smaller restaurant. The hours are listed incorrectly on maps and therefore my togo order was pushed from this afternoon to 8am the following day. I was unaware of this when I walked in to get my sandwich and the man inside so rude. He told me the kitchen closed at two thirty, there is no order, and I need to leave. I understand hours can be listed incorrectly but the way he spoke to me like I was stupid because I didn't know my order automatically switched was unnecessary. He proceeded to open google maps and prove he was right on a different app. Sir, all I'm stating is if you close at 2:30 someone should request a change on maps, as it is a commonly used app.

Yelp
Shoreline is a bit of a hidden gem. I've eaten here over the past seven years, and have enjoyed every meal I've eaten. The menu focuses on Cali Mexican cuisine, but also offers alternatives and basic breakfast faves. The food is always fresh and tasty. It's nothing fancy, but it's delightful! I love coming here for brunch, but they also serve lunch too. Some faves of my dining companion are: meatloaf, burrito with sausage, gourmet grilled cheese. I ate the Tennessee toast today; the kale was fresh and crispy, the bread toasted perfectly, with perfectly ripe avocado, seasoned with a red salt spice that just added flavor but no kick. They have a few types of hot sauce if you want to add in the fire. During Covid, there is a to-go kiosk, but you can eat nearby at the outdoor tables.

Harry S.

Yelp
We enjoyed another outstanding weekend meal at Shoreline. The food is consistently great and the entire staff are exceptional.

Yelp
Cute little location and reasonably priced for the area. My special burrito(eggs, carnalized onions, gruyere, kale and bacon) was tasty. My wife had 1 scrambled egg and a cinnamon roll. I love that they source local ingredients.

Kc E.

Yelp
The food is great.Breakfast especially. The service is awful.Their on their own scheldule. They looked at me,I know they new I was there. Then when my food was ready it just kinda sat there on the shelf.Difference of an opinion I guess. You get served when they want you to get served not when the food is ready.

Rachel K.

Yelp
I do tend to get the same dishes when I come but that is simply because they are so tasty!! Usually I sit outside because we often come with a dog but this time we sat inside and I love the dinner feel. It is a bit loud inside. 10/10 would recommend for breakfast/brunch.
google avatar

Zach S.

Yelp
Great little breakfast restaurant, perfect to visit after a hike. Really liked the breakfast burrito and blueberry pancakes. If you sit inside, it gives you some classic Americana diner vibes, which is much needed in the world of bougie "new American/California" cuisine you find all over the place. Plus, the prices are pretty reasonably... no $26 scrambled eggs here!
google avatar

Danielle C.

Yelp
Such a nice little local spot! Had to find a brunch spot before a wedding in the area and so happy I stopped here. Went with the breakfast sandwich as an easy safe option (cause no fun risking spicy before a wedding) and it's was so delicious! Although it's simple, it's so well done and the bread choice is perfect. Highly recommend and will stop by if I'm in the area again. Also the service was lovely. :)
google avatar

Holly E.

Yelp
Good location, service is fine, however the food left a lot to be desired. Ordered the Huevos Rancheros and it had no flavor or seasoning whatsoever. Beans were bland, eggs were bland and the ranchero sauce tasted like watery pasta sauce. Another person in our group ordered it as well and said the same thing. If you like your food seasoned, this is not the spot for you. Waste of money.

Just Some A.

Yelp
Great cute small diner... service was excellent, the food was tasty and the prices were about right! I had The Tennessee Valley Toast and my boyfriend the burrito gringo ! Delicioso

Michael I.

Yelp
The service provided by Esmeralda, Sam, Jorge and Ernie is first class. Even when they have customers waiting for a table, they are running around to provide the best service. The food is excellent. We have never had a bad meal there. Santi's huevos rancheros is a blast from the past and is delicious. Their pork belly tacos with crispy fries is one of my favorites. I strongly recommend Shoreline for a great meal, whether it be breakfast, brunch or lunch.

Yelp
We stopped unplanned as we came back from a hike. We were seated right away and our server came up quickly. We all ordered a drink and then spent time on the menu. We all decided to order some breakfast and it did not disappoint. The food came out quickly and was very well prepared. We enjoyed our servers friendliness and all in all we had a great experience. We will be back for sure when in the area next.

Jamie L.

Yelp
I have been coming here for years and love the diner feel, however, the food has always been pretty good but never above average. Me and my friends would still come to enjoy cheap breakfast. Today 12/23/23 i went to go put my name down where I had asked if there were tables outside available as no one was on the patio. I was told to put my name down and as I grabbed the clipboard it was snatched out of my hand aggressively by a mexican man with a bun working there. He had gone outside to call others names as other went to to put their names down so i went and had asked to put my name down in which the man shoved the clipboard into my chest hurting me saying "you write it. I'm not doing it for you." Handing it back I politely said "sir that was very disrespectful" in which he began to yell at me and tell all his coworkers who started to laugh. I felt extremely disrespected and only felt a little ounce of empathy as i begged the only female worker there to speak with me as I had been there a many times. She was the only employer that provided me sense of safety, otherwise, i am sacred to attend this restaurant again. This man is scary. Watch out.

Yelp
Good place to get a conventional breakfast with a Mexican twist. Service is good. Can sit outdoors when weather is nice.

Yelp
If this were the East Coast, we would call Shoreline a diner, and I mean that as a compliment. From the outside it looks like a dive, located in the back corner of a shopping plaza, hidden from the street. But step inside and discover a quirky, Marin-y, organic cafe with a kind of bizarre range of menu choices (as diners always have), colorful booths and local art (sometimes from high school students) on the walls. We hike in Marin a lot and come here after our adventures for lunch. It is definitely a lunch/brunch kind of place. Sometimes there is a wait (in non pandemic times) but usually you can be seated in a few short minutes. The best things to order, in my humble opinion, * kale salad with buffalo chicken ( as a New Yorker I take a small exception to this description because there is no blue cheese but no Californian will know or care). Dino kale, avocado, onion, fried chicken pieces with spicy sauce. Big enough for 2 meals. * tuna melt- your basic tuna salad but presented as an open face sandwich with basically a salad on top (lettuce and tomatoes). Indulgent but healthy-ish. For the kids: Pancakes, grilled cheese with tomato soup, burger and fries plus little fruit cups There are about 98 other items on the menu that I have never tried, many of which are Mexican inspired with a Nor Cal twist. I'm sure some of them are good too but I tend to find my thing and stick with it. The lemonade has been rated a thumbs down by both of my kids and the coffee is just okay. The service ranges from friendly and efficient to distracted to perfunctory. The wait staff seems to come and go but there are a few guys who have been holding the fort down for years and they are a big part of the charm of this place. You can often overhear a lot of fascinating conversations from other customers as well. Yes, I'm a snoop.

Vicush Z.

Yelp
First of all, it wasn't you who "politely" told us that "to go" mean it is "to go", it was a lady and you don't appear to be one from what I can tell. So you took the time out of your day to reply, because you felt the need to say something about the review and not speak to the fact of what actually happened. You entire come back is based on what your employee told you happened, as you clearly were not there! That along is deserving of the last star off. Your employee is not telling you the truth (or you are covering for their actions) as this would mean you would need to do something about them being rude to the customer, instead you just side with them and respond; quite telling is the culture of this restaurant. Once more, we purchased your food and 5 minutes later realised we were really early for the appointment we were headed to, so we decided to, to sit down to eat some of the wraps( which require no plates or extra handling). Your employee literally ran up to us and said what I already stated! Again, I would have never sat down outside at the tables of your your restaurant if it was full or even somewhat busy, there were some tables occupied, and many and many open, as you can obviously see it from the picture I posted. Then, the men on the picture, again, not you(!) aggressively approached me and told me I wasn't allowed to use the picture, I have no idea why he was also shaking while speaking- he is the same guys that took my order. Anyways, here I am, not only using the picture, but obviously showing you, that you as the owner have no interest in running a customer-friendly operation. You got paid nearly $60 for food and your employees demanded we clear your premises once transaction the took place. Thanks for your response, that did nothing but further proved my point! To all patrons out there, stay clear of this place, you can spend your money else where, some place where it is appreciated, and you won't be berated by the unprofessional staff and the clueless owner.

Yelp
Local go-to AM spot for the Mill Valley crowd. I was slow to warm up to this spot given my love for bougie breakfasts, but in leaving city living behind to relocate to Marin, I've come to appreciate that long-standing solid restaurants in the Mill Valley scene are quite limited and very hunt and peck. The food here is basic, but homemade. The location is a cross between a refurbished old-diner and a California bungalow. I come here for breakfast/brunch and I usually get whatever delicious scramble is on the chalkboard. I'm a fan of their peppered hash browns made to order. Coffee is a-okay, but barely. Most breakfast items though are consistently solid. If you keep expectations in line with humble Mill Valley offerings, you will likely enjoy this locals diner, for a quick brunch. (Caveat: My experiences are limited to breakfast.)

Molly B.

Yelp
Had breakfast here for the first time and can't believe we haven't stopped in before! Wonderful service, amazing food, and nice outside ambience. Can't wait to come back!
google avatar

David Y.

Yelp
Food was very tasty but for my middle-class (non-Mill Valley) budget dramatically overpriced. To wit: I had avocado toast with kale and egg (no side) for $14.50. Drip coffee = $3.25/cup. Over $40 for breakfast for two once the tip was included. Service was very good and if money were no object I would enjoy eating here on the reg, so let your budget modify the review here accordingly.

Yelp
Delicious! The tacos hit the spot after a day of hiking. Friendly service, great location and the food, amazing! Patio and inside seating, dogs welcome on patio. Plenty of parking.
