So first of all let's thank The Misfit down the street for closing down their patio, since that's how we came to be at this gorgeous, high-quality outdoor restaurant for the first time. My partner's parents had offered to fund a nice gift dinner for us, and when our first plan fell through, we set to furiously searching for the perfect steak.
Fortunately, this great little spot absolutely made our night. It's a beautiful glass-walled garden with sofas and chairs and heaters: all the upsides of outdoor dining with none of the downsides.
We started by splitting a salad and a drink, and the staff separated them as a courtesy without being asked. The salad was quite decent in size and construction. The drink got us both pretty sozzled - very generous pour!
Then came the entrees and sides. My partner had the coffee-rubbed ribeye, and I had the salmon, and we shared each other pieces. Both were *amazing*.
Now, some background. I was raised vegetarian, & still eat less meat than average. I don't normally share my partner's taste for beef, but I'll try a bite now and again, and usually just become satisfied that I know my tastes well enough.
This is possibly the first & only time in my life that I've eaten a bite of steak and thought, "I could eat this whole thing. Gosh, wow, I *want* to eat this whole thing." It was juicy and flavorful and a delicate medium-rare texture. I now understand the appeal of steak in a way that I never did before today.
Fortunately, my salmon was also delicious, a generous portion, perfectly cooked, buttery-soft and hearty, with a mild flavor. And all the sides - broccolini, carrots, fingerling potatoes, black rice, an add-on of sautéed mushrooms - were also expertly crafted, and well portioned. So I didn't have to beg my partner for scraps of ribeye like the human golden retriever I am.
Now, I should also mention, she is a truly expert steak connoisseur as only a tiny anemic woman can be, having consumed hundreds of steak dinners over her lifetime. And *she* says it was among the top tier of steaks *she'd* ever had.
We finished off by sharing a perfectly pulled double espresso, to balance out the alcohol.
The staff were all very kind, communicative, and solicitous - I didn't catch everyone's name, but our server was Lily and she was fantastic.
Everyone was knowledgeable and responsive about our allergy concerns, so we had a great, celiac-safe, gluten-free dinner, with many options available. I would score this restaurant very highly on allergy friendliness. The atmosphere was good, and the warm, comfortable seating area was easily in the top tier of patios I've seen. We'll definitely be back.
