Oregon Mussels Sickened at Least 20 People This Weekend | Eater Portland

"I learned that at least 20 people were sickened after eating recreationally harvested mussels at Short Beach on May 25–26, with some requiring hospitalization for symptoms of paralytic shellfish poisoning (PSP). Health officials are urging anyone who harvested shellfish along the Oregon Coast between the Washington border and Seal Rock State Park to discard it, noting that the biotoxin that causes PSP can survive cooking or freezing. State agencies had already closed mussel harvesting between Seal Rock State Park and Cape Lookout on May 23 after detecting high PSP levels and later extended that closure to the Washington border." - Brooke Jackson-Glidden

My wife and I stopped by on a Sunday evening (7:30-9:00) when there were no other cars in the lot. Decent staircase that takes you straight down to a beautiful view that opens up to cliffs, stacks, waterfalls, and crashing waves. We did not have to try hard to find agates along with some jade and jasper. One of my favorite times spent at a beach.

Huge fan of both beaches and waterfalls, so for sure had to stop by this one since it was near the cabin we stayed in. I probably wouldn't recommend going out of your way for this one, but if you're also in the area, it may be worth a quick stop. The waterfall is more just like a manmade waterfall so it is not as cool as some of the other ones we have seen. The beach was nice, and we were there pretty early, so there weren't too many people either.

Great beach for agate hunting, waterfalls and relaxing

Great place to see nice rock formations inside the ocean. Nice view but limited parking on the road. The path to there is little steep, more careful for children, very difficult to impossible for strollers, mostly small rocks on the beach. Enjoy the place,

Visited 8/25/23 - the beach itself is beautiful, but be careful getting to it, access can be challenging for some. There is roadside parking with a port-a-potty (that needed servicing). A short but steep trail leads to the beach. The trail is dark and has been damaged by erosion but there is caution tape to help keep visitors on the safest part of the trail. This is a rocky beach and fun place to beach comb. We saw a sea lion on shore and got some photos but was careful to keep our distance.

Extremely limited parking. But the most beautiful walk down to the beach. 2 waterfalls. There's a bit of rock scrambling. Very few shells. Some bits of sea glass. Some agate if you're looking. Waterfalls create interesting features in the sand. Recommend if there's parking.

Its unique! You'll find some incredible rocks as well as a waterfall, jutting cliffs, ocean formations, it's beautiful. It's quite a steep walk down and not a ton of sure footing so be careful!

This beach is very nice secluded spot. We spent several hours here and had it all to ourselves while enjoying a beautiful sunset. The stairs down are railroad ties and simple the trail is interesting with several benches to rest on if need be. A very enjoyable way to reach the beach. I will return to my new favorite place to enjoy life at a beautiful beach very soon.
