Oh, how I love this place in winter. It's wild, treacherous, and full of beautiful chalcedony chunks and green jasper. On my last visit in September 2025, I was happy to see they have nearly finished rebuilding the steps to the beach, which had been rotting away. They've also added hand rails for safety, as the steps are steep. This is NOT an ADA-friendly beach: There's only one way down, via steep steps. It's helpful to check tide charts, especially in winter, to ensure that there's enough beach to walk upon. Good, waterproof boots with ankle support are important, since you'll be walking on loose rock at times. There's a port-a-potty at the top of the steps and only roadside parking, which fills up during the weekend and after good winter storms, when the agate-picking is best. The cliffs surrounding the beach are prone to rockslides, so keep your distance. Last week, there was a huge, fresh pile of rock that had fallen from the southernmost cliff. Not a great place for toddlers, but beautiful and so picturesque.
