This location is massive with a good amount of seating and store. So much merch! On a Saturday night before the Lions game the place was packed with an hour wait for a group of seven. We opted for a takeout order instead which was ready in about 20 minutes. The takeout mac and cheese was a generously packed portion and the White Pepper sandwich is one of the best around.

The beer and the atmosphere were awesome! One of the bartenders was not very helpful or friendly. She was the blonde behind the main bar today. We were trying to get recommendations as we are from out of town and she couldn’t have cared less. Luckily there was another bartender who was so much more friendly! Buffalo chicken dip and the nachos were so delicious!!!! Beer, Food, and Atmosphere were 5 stars. Customer service was a 3 maybe. Check out the sign that screams we are impatient behind the bar lol… yikes.

This once hidden gem is not so hidden anymore. I've been coming here for about 15 years now and I'll keep coming back a few times a year. The beer is amazing and promises to have something for everybody. The food is the real star here tho, don't sleep on the pizzas, or the Mac n cheese. Sandwiches are also mouth watering, particularly the "sketches of winkle".

We had to wait about 30-40 minutes for a table on a Saturday afternoon. Not too bad. We were sat kind of in the corner, and slightly forgotten (like had to flag server over a couple times). We ordered the cheese flatbread for an appetizer, and it was delicious! I ordered the club sandwich, which I didn’t love because they grilled the deli meats too, and I’m not a fan of hot deli meat. It made it slightly greasy unnecessarily dripping on the parchment. Yuck. My husband got nachos, which looked fantastic and he enjoyed. I tried them, and they were good. My kids got cheese pizza, and they liked it. I ordered the chocolate chip cookies and they do NOT taste like they were baked there. Bland way to end the meal. If we go back, I’ll have to try something else. But the decor was cool, and there were lots of people coming and going,

Not too busy when we came during the day. Great service and great atmosphere. Had two kiddos with me and it was still a fabulous experience, as always. My 8 yr old son wanted to add “It has great people” 🫶🏻.

Delicious!! Everything we had we loved. The warm pretzels come with cheese, honey mustard and Pb&J!! Yum!!! So many good food & drink choices. Nice atmosphere and service was excellent.

Randy Spaulding

Google
Very packed when we arrived but ended up being a very enjoyable visit. I’m a huge Ween fan so we enjoyed the tributes to the band via the decor and menu! The beers were really nice and the food was delicious and a hit with my young boys. Definitely recommend!

There's no better brewery in Michigan. Amazing food and beers all around. I love this place and congrats on 20 years! Get the white pepper sandwich, you're welcome.

Jodi B.

Yelp
Had quick nacho appetizers with shredded chicken. Well balanced. Enjoyed the flight, especially trying the "Night Moos" and "Woodmaster." Fun evergreen infused "Fir Sure". Service was attentive. Ambiance well known for warmth. lol.

Yelp
Great place to stop in for pizza and live music! We happened to be in town for a conference and this place offered a nice escape from the day and greeted us with delicious pizza and live music. The menu isn't extensive, it is short and sweet. Don't complicate it, order a pizza or a sandwich and relax!

Yelp
Atmosphere-5/5 Clean, fun, and ascetically pleasing brewery. We came during trivia night (Thursday) which adds to the fun. There is indoor and outdoor seating and a laid back vibe that I can only describe as similar to the breweries I have visited in Colorado (which is a big compliment). Food Quality- 5/5 I got the White Pepper Sandwich which was delicious. The only way to make it better would be to make it bigger. My wife got the Sketches of Winkle grinder which was equally delicious. Each sandwich came with a bag of chips which were kettle style. Beer- 5/5 I've had Short's before but this was my first time visiting the brewery. The selection is what you would expect at a brewery and the quality is top notch. Service- 4/5 No complaints here. Nothing over the top but also attentive and efficient. Value- 2.5/5 Almost all of the beers and hard ciders were $6 per 16oz glass, which I think is very reasonable at a brewery. And while the food was delicious, the portions aren't anything to write home about. I knocked value down by a star because the sandwiches come with chips ($2.50 to substitute a side). For $16, it would be nice if a sandwich automatically came with a more premium side. Most of the pizzas were $15 for a small and $29 for a "large" big enough for two people. Essentially, they have the menu setup where most people will spend at least $15 per person on food and $6 per drink. $42 per couple plus tax and tip= ~$50, $60+ for dinner and 2 drinks per person. Overall- I enjoyed the experience and would come back again when in the area. They do live entertainment on Friday's and Saturday's so I would recommend checking the schedule and visiting then.

Paul Yelp N.

Yelp
Good beer acceptable food and ok service. It probably would be more of positive experience had it not been a Friday of a holiday weekend.

Samantha G.

Yelp
A fun brewery experience with great food and a cool gift shop. We got a build your own pizza. The pizza has a beer crust which was delightful; get this if you like chewy thick crust pizza. The Someday sandwich was delicious. YUM! The beer and the atmosphere were awesome!

D N.

Yelp
Really cool little spot, a few item from the sandwich selection turned out to be great. Tried white pepper and the old man sandwiches, great ingredients and wholesome. No mountain dew, coke only products, tea is alternative.

Anny L.

Yelp
Food was just typical bar food, service was awesome though, so three stars for service!

Janice J.

Yelp
A local favorite and a fun place for dinner and some beer. We enjoyed the pizza. It can be loud, but that's OK. The beer list is extensive with of course their varieties and some others.

Stephanie M.

Yelp
I AM CELIAC AND EAT GLUTEN FREE. This is one of my top ten faves in this state. Live music on weekends and outside eating. Friendly and a great atmosphere. Ive ate here several times with no gluten issues. It also tastes phenominal. The cilantro lime sour cream i cannot get enough of.

Jeremy S.

Yelp
Fast service and some of the best food I've had in a long time. Prepare for a long wait list though.

Annette J.

Yelp
I was staying nearby with family and we wanted takeout after spending a day out on Torch Lake. Short's, with their delicious beers and accessible menu was the winner of our search. There were 7 of us so our order was fairly large but they managed it with aplomb. Nachos, pizzas, pretzels, salads, sandwiches....our order had it all and all was delicious. I personally had the "I don't want to leave you on the farm" salad which was pretty much their version of a cobb and it was delicious. My husband and I also split an order of the soft pretzels. One of our party is allergic to peanuts so we had to pass on the Soft Parade jam and peanut butter swirl (much to my sadness, it sounded so good!) but the Huma Lupalicious cheese spread was very satisfying. We decided not to overwhelm the staff when placing our order and include beer requests so we popped into the shop when we went to pick up our food and picked up several cans and bottles of tasty brews for each person to enjoy on a dockside sunset. Highly recommend doing the same!

Stephanie K.

Yelp
Easy to order + Easy to pick up We had a group of six, with multiple menu items ordered and all of our food was made to order, which was appreciated! I would easily order that pizza (flutes of chi, without balsamic) again and again and again!!!

Anjie W.

Yelp
Always a great time. Visited twice in span of five days. Psychedelic Cat is our fav and we loved the falling out pizza!! We will be back no doubt!

Bob H.

Yelp
I've been to Short's several times, but there was always a decent wait to get seated. Most of the time, we tucked our tails and went to another place in Bellaire or just got our food to go. Every time, we at least got a beer in the bar area adjoining the restaurant. The wait is real, but last night we waited it out and it was most definitely worth it. If a restaurant (and brew pub!) is that busy everytime you go then you know they're doing a lot of things right. The beer is arguably the best in a crowded scene of fantastic Michigan-based craft breweries. Endless selection of regular and seasonal beers and ciders... but the food is just as good. We got the Falling Out pizza and it might just be one of the best - if not the best - pizza I've ever had. Insanely tasty with pulled pork, bacon mixed in with BBQ sauce, jalapenos and maple sriracha. It has pineapple too. Don't let that bother you. The mix of heat, meat and sweet with the beer infused pizza crust will have me coming back for more the next time we bolt up to Schuss.

CJ M.

Yelp
Amazing spot! Great food and service! The overall vibe was chill and friendly. We will be back! The venue had a standing room, and a lot of sit down areas. The bar is small, but lively. The only down was they charged for any sauce - marinara, ranch, hour sauce, etc. Not ideal at all... ** iced tea was great!!

Steve C.

Yelp
First visit, huge selection of brews and also a couple ciders. Service was friendly and efficient. We had lunch here. The pizza was top notch, some of the best I've had in a long time! I also had the pork sammie, it was good but I would go with the pizza next time.

Megan M.

Yelp
Food: 5 stars Beer: 4 stars Service: 4 stars Ambiance: 4 stars Value: 5 stars Short's has good beer and GREAT food. I came with my family on a gorgeous summer weekend evening, and only had to wait 5 minutes for a table. This time around, we opted for sandwiches, but the pizza is also fantastic. I had the where'd the cheese go with bacon, my husband had the tastes good on the bun, and my dad had the Gabrielle. We all loved our food, and they were able to accommodate my mother's dietary restrictions easily with a special order sandwich. The portion sizes are large and filling, and the value is definitely there. Highly recommend coming in a grabbing some food, even if you're not a big drinker.

James B.

Yelp
Food was great tasting and served in a timely fashion. The server was courteous and did a great job making that we had everything we needed. Beer was chilled to perfection. Love Locals Light. I would recommend Shorts to anyone who loves food & beer.

Stephanie B.

Yelp
I love Shorts and make it a point to visit each time I go Up North! The food is good and the beer selection is pretty extensive. The outdoor area is dog friendly. Service is hit or miss, but I've never had a bad experience.

Alden C.

Yelp
Short's Brewing Company I've had my eye on for a little while. The opportunity arose for me to try one of their beers and I was very glad to have gotten a hold of it. Psychedelic Cat Grass us the beer that Steve and I had a pint of. This beer is an IPA and like it's namesake it does have a grassy flavor aspect to it but it's more on subdued and much of the time you get the hops that makes up this pretty solid IPA. Good start for trying out this brewery and if another opportunity arises to try more of their beers then I certainly will!

Sandi S.

Yelp
In the area June 11-16, shorts was perfect as usual, we enjoy coming in 2'or 3 times for the flights , then buying what we really enjoy. Many different beer like the beer with Roma tomatoes/dill/horseradish and the spruce flavored beer. (Nice to sample) Only issue is we bought a growler and the bar tender did not rinse it out, this is something that usually done. We did not think at the time to say something( will next time) Food is always very good

Anna M.

Yelp
We came late hoping for a couple last call drinks. The staff was so friendly! I was expecting a grumbled "sure"- but they said the place closes at midnight, so we were welcome to stay. So many beers and ciders to choose from! Over 2 days I tried 3 different drinks and they were all great. I really liked the Squishy and Pina Colada ciders. Tons of flavor without being cloyingly sweet or artificial tasting. The Nicie had great flavor balance and was really interesting. I wish we had more time in the area and less plans, I would love to try their food. We saw a pizza and it looked great. The staff was cleaning, as we were the only people there (totally fine), and let me tell you- that place is CLEAN! I was amazed how much effort they put into it.

Jewell D.

Yelp
If the food is anything like the beer (and you know it is), then you can expect nothing short of amazing. This was my second visit on a girls trip to Traverse City. Short's is about 40 min outside of Traverse City which makes it a must see destination when visiting the Cherry Capital. It's usually packed, so put your name on the list, and go across the street to Bee Well, a really cool and laid back meadery serving mead and hard cider. I ordered a grilled cheese from Short's. At first, I felt basic ordering a grilled cheese, but there was nothing basic about this sandwich. White Cheddar, Provolone, Swiss, tomato, avocado, roasted garlic chipotle mayo on grilled wheat. The cheese oozed out during grilling which resulted in crispy goodness. You get to pick a side and the daily choice was a giardiniera pasta salad which was creamy with a kick. This was so amazing! If you get the chance to stop in, it's worth the wait. You can also shop the store, get some merch, and walk around the cute little town. There are a few shops within a block walking distance from Short's. Visit the website for more reviews! www.thebite2night.com

Yelp
Artichoke dip and home made bread. Amazing! Pizza. AMAZING! Lager. AMAZING! Apple Gin Fizz. Kinda flat but still tasted good. 5 stars.

Mason R.

Yelp
Shorts has been one of my top 3 favorite breweries of all time. With that being said the staff is always punctual, helpful, and fast. Can't go without talking about the awesome food options as well. The atmosphere is very cozy and original to its origins which in my opinion is a plus. Life is Short's, drink it while you're here!

A G.

Yelp
Great time at Short's - first time visiting and hopefully not the last! A group of us were in for a bachelor party and we're easily accommodated. Great beer (obviously) and food - cool outdoor music area also. Stop on in if you're in the area.

David W.

Yelp
Food is always pretty good, Beer speaks for itself, building is so unique, and they have done so much for Bellaire. Im all about live music but its always so loud here. My biggest issue has been employees and rudeness. Ive brought it up before and then the manager acted as if I had done something to piss them off. All that aside i still would give 4 stars until Saturday night i only left 15% tip and right after she grabbed the bill, looked at it around the corner, looked at the girl next to her and said "really $28?". So over the hipster attitude here.

Chris K.

Yelp
Stopped by on a recent visit to town and it was a fun stop! I think just the sheer number of people prevented me from giving it a 5-star as we just felt rushed at all times. We had a pup and tried the beer garden first, but this was standing room only and people kept bumping into us as it was so incredibly packed with people. Clearly a fun spot, but we could barely even hear each other when the band was playing. We moved across the street and after a short break, a spot at the end of a patio table opened up and we hopped in. We had to bus the table, but it was pleasant enough. The beers were fine - nothing we particularly loved - and felt the same about the food. Clearly a wildly popular spot - and dog-friendly (a real plus!!) - though it was overly packed and took a long time to get anything.

George H.

Yelp
This place has everything you need. Great beer - nothing beats local's light - and great food. The mutilated lips or Joppa road pizzas are my personal favorites but the sandwiches are also excellent. Great place to come and enjoy food and music with family and the staff are extremely kind and helpful. It's a northern Michigan staple and I always stop by when I'm up at the cabin.

christopher w.

Yelp
Don't understand all the good reviews. It's a dump with marginal food. My sandwich was soggy and gross. Nice waiter. Decor was that of a fraternity house basement. Do I need to tell you I won't be back?

Chris B.

Yelp
Great food great bartender! Beer was awesome and great time. Local light best beer. Italian sandwich was awesome

Jack M.

Yelp
Good beer. Good food. A touch pricey for the area it's in. Ambience is like most breweries. Merchant is extremely over--priced. Definitely tailored towards out of towners.

Bob S.

Yelp
Always delicious food and beer. Bellaire Brown and Soft Parade are the family favorites.

Kristen S.

Yelp
We were visiting from Chicago, where there is no shortage of local breweries and pizza, and I thought everything was fantastic. They do bread and beer really well. Atmosphere, beers, pizza, and pretzels were all great. I thought the white pepper sandwich was one the best sandwiches I've had in my life. I don't write reviews, but that sandwich was that good.

Kaitlin W.

Yelp
Stopping at Short's Brewery is a MUST if you're anywhere near the Bellaire/Torch Lake area of northern Michigan! I've frequented this place A LOT and watched (while cheering them on) as the business has grown over the years. The first time I stopped in, it was a single building on Main Street that offered a wide selection of craft brews, but only a couple of options food-wise. Since then, they have taken over almost half the block with multiple bar areas, tons of seating (indoors & out), a stage where local bands play, and an extensive food menu. There is also a store where you can purchase everything from Short's t-shirts and swag to their house-made mustard, jam, and multi-packs of beer & cider to go! I highly recommend their wide variety of pizzas! My personal favorite is the "Falling Out," but ANY of the unique selections are worth a taste! The sandwiches are delicious, as well as their salads and appetizers. The menu seems to change seasonally, so I've tried (and posted some photos of) a few items that aren't on the menu anymore. All in all, I've never eaten or drank anything that I didn't LOVE here at Short's! Even for people who aren't beer drinkers, they've got you! There are plenty of hard ciders and canned wine options available as well. If you plan to come here, I suggest making a reservation online a few days ahead of time, especially if it's during the busy Summer season (or on a weekend!) CHEERS!!!!!!!!

Sara P.

Yelp
This place is amazing! We ate here two nights in a row. The Buenas Tardes, Buckingham Greens, and apple juice (for the kiddo) were all awesome! But, the real star is their staff. Especially, Brian and Christian. Brian asked the kitchen to stay open a little longer so we could grab a bite and Christian took care of us like we didn't show up late to the party! Thanx again!

Mack S.

Yelp
Excellent experience. Great brewery make sure you get the white pepper sandwich. It is delicious JOHN behind the bar will also take very good care of you. I promise this is the best sandwich ever have an worth the stuff in the dryer and everything else..

nicole d.

Yelp
Please bring back the former quality! White pepper is not the same without the real ciabatta roll, Sketches fillings are too much for the squishy roll it's on now instead of crusty baguette. Bagged chips are a poor substitute for the handful of fresh we used to get and today's pickle was a sandwich slice instead of a spear. Flavor profiles are still good but this is not the same food we loved and for a much higher price.

Melissa M.

Yelp
Amazing. I hadn't been here in at least a decade (hey, I live at least 4 hours away!) and I am so happy I decided to suck it up and make the extra drive during my time in TC. We had a res but didn't actually sit at a table since we were just drinking and didn't want to take up a whole table. Our bartender was really nice and helpful, and the beer was good (of course). We got a tour, which was apparently free and it was literally the highlight of my trip. I highly recommend adding this to your agenda. Added bonus: I got to meet Joe Short and now I think I have a crush. I didn't have the food but it looks fantastic.

Jennifer F.

Yelp
My husband and I were vacationing in Northern Michigan. We stayed at Stone Water Inn in Bellaire and found this gem. The food and beer are amazing. Thursday night they had free bingo in the beer garden across the street. We really enjoyed that. It really drew the people in and it was nice conversing and laughing with different people. It doesn't get any better than that. The employee announcing the bingo did a super job making it fun for all ages!! Even though we didn't win we had a really great time I brought 2 cases of beer home with us back to Ohio. Also stopped at a Walmart on the way home and picked up another case! Employees were all very friendly.

Tammy D.

Yelp
A fantastic pizza kit! Website said $12 but we got charged$14. It was okay and didn't notice til we got back to our vacation condo. Buy 2 items and get a growler for $5. A nice deal. The pretzels were fantastic with 3 choices for dipping sauce.

Lauralei ..

Yelp
Hostess was verbally rude while discussing seating our group, and then told us it would be at least a 30min wait. We signed up for the waitlist in case we couldn't find anywhere else to go, but ended up heading to a different place. Not more than 10 minutes after we left Short's (and found a seat at a different place down the road), they texted that our table was ready. In conclusion, bad service and no concept of a correct wait time was our biggest frustration here.

Tom V.

Yelp
Creative beer inspired dishes bursting with flavors for everyone. We love to split the Buckingham Salad and Mushroom Pizza with spent grains crust. Be sure to ask your server to suggest a beer pairing for whatever you order. Laid back blue jeans t shirt Up North vibe but all welcome all of the time. Don't miss it...weekdays afternoons best. Cheers!

Sara D.

Yelp
A great place! Quirky item names on the menu and friendly staff. We got the Gabrielle, Where'd the Cheese Go, Sketches of Winkle, and White Pepper (all sandwiches), they were all delicious and flavorful. We love Short's beers.

Carolyn W.

Yelp
An incredible find in the middle of rural Michigan. Outstanding food. Lots of beer. Patio. A hopping place.

Francis J.

Yelp
Beer and food is good service is poor they continue to treat there customers like customer should be thankful just to be in the place. Please don't request better service or they will cry about how the tourist are so disrespectful. I'm not a tourist I live here. I know Dock Side , Mammoth, and Bee Well are different business but the way those establishment treat you should be looked at by Shorts Management.

Kristen F.

Yelp
We always like to stop at shorts when in Bellaire. Now they have a new beer Garden in elk Rapids, which has some food trucks. Much more casual food is always excellent. Great pizzas and good beer.

Nicole M.

Yelp
I can't believe it took me so long to visit here considering how much I enjoy shorts beer. Definitely one of my favorite breweries! They brew so many unique flavor combos and do it SO well. You can choose a flight of any 5 for $10 and they have a large selection already bottled or canned to take home. My favorites are the soft parade and soft parade Shandy. It's a berry fruit beer and freaking delicious. Tried the gitchy gitchy ooh la la and lives up to its name. I'll admit when I heard cucumber and lilac I was hesitant but it's so refreshing! I could go on and on with their beer but I'll just leave it at try as many as you can! For food I tried the white pepper sandwich. Very good! Ciabatta bread and this smokey chipotle sauce, avacado, roasted red pepper and turkey. My only drawback to the physical location is that seating is pretty limited, they have a small patio outside with seating and is dog friendly. Otherwise inside it's standing only at a few tables.

Mj J.

Yelp
This review is strictly for the beer and experience. We stopped at Shorts on our brew tour. I was so excited to finally make here. I've been wanting to visit this brewery for many years. It's such a cool set up. Located in town, Shorts is most certainly a destination spot for travelers. Being a well know brewery, people come from all over to try their beers. That being said, a lot of thought went into the layout of this brewery. They have a nice outside patio to enjoy with a bar, a gift shop, and a separate spot for indoor dining. If you are interested in eating, make a reservation ahead of time. My favorite beer is the Soft Parade. It's such an easy drinking beer. They have a cute TagaBrew, too! I will most certainly be back.
