Spicebox Review - Walthamstow - London - The Infatuation

"From the street, Spicebox, a plant-based Indian restaurant in Walthamstow, looks like a pokey takeaway spot (albeit painted in punchy purples and pinks). But the restaurant explodes into an airy dining space which has got cosy family meals and casual catch-ups written all over it. A combination of the amber and fuchsia cushions (the same colour as their pickled onions), and friendly staff means this is a place where you can have an unhurried, relaxed time. The pani puri and tarka dhal should definitely be on your table, but the naans are nothing special so go for loaded bhaji instead. It's a small space so book ahead for evenings when the thrum of chatter is at its loudest and friends nick the best bits of the thali specials off shared plates. " - Sinéad Cranna

As a vegetarian, I was excited to try this place, and in particular the £10 mini thali meal deal (available 5-7pm every day), which seemed like great value. Unfortunately, I found the food quite disappointing, in particular the Dal Makhani and Chickpea Curry, which just weren't as flavourful as I was expecting

The restaurant is cosy and warm with a great atmosphere. The staff are friendly. The food is expensive though for what you get and the portions are very small. Food was fresh but lacked taste. Overall good.

The food was OK nothing to write home about..the portions are small ..the nans aren't cooked in a tandoor. The door kept coming open letting a draft in. The guy behind the counter was going around talking to the white people and didn't bother talking to us. We ordered samosa chaat it only had one samosa In it . Bhel was OK. Chicken curry (vegan) massala chips. Garlic naans.parota and matar paneer. Overpriced and the sauce for the 2 curries tasted the same...the thali are so so over priced at around £20.

I am speechless after my meal. This is a family owned traditional Gujarati vegetarian restaurant. The food tasted like it was made by my mother; simple perfection. Authentic flavors, not over powering, and finger licking delicious. Their menu is labeled with allergens and they are Gluten Free friendly! (So hard to find this!, much appreciated). I had the Thali, which was customized to my dietary requirements with ease. It was very filling, great portions, and well plated. My favorite part was the family like charm the restaurant has. It has spectacular vibes. Greeted and served by the owner. Very kind hospitality. Highly recommend. Will return! Thank you for a great meal, conversation, and service.

Delicious, sumptuous and authentic Indian food minus the oil. It was a birthday meal for my son and he loved his meal of Chole Bhature. We ordered some mixed snacks (Sev Puri and Dahi Puri) and Special Thali which came with a nice masala Tea. The host was amazing and food recommendations were highly appreciated. In all, the family had a good time ! Will visit again in the future.

What a joyous experience! The smells, the genuinely friendly service, delicious and authentic vegetarian food, the decor, the fact that you can BYO beer from Clapton Craft right next door (for a very fair £3 corkage charge), and a rare opportunity to order things like chaat that you won't get in your bog standard curry house, make this place worthy of it's glowing reviews. I am already looking forward to my next visit and customising my Thali with a different combination.

Brilliant vegan restaurant in Walthamstow. Think they do a couple of veggie dishes but otherwise plant based! Great atmosphere, service and food. Will definitely be back!
