Met up with my friend to eat here for my birthday.
My parents and their parents are from New Orleans, so this type of food is imbedded in my memories, I was excited to eat here to see what they offer.
It is decorated with so much Louisiana stuff, lots of TVs to watch the Saints, Pelicans, LSU, or whatever other Louisiana team may be on. It is a smidge dark inside but nothing too crazy.
We got oysters Rockefeller, which were really good. So much flavor!
My friend opted to get a fried shrimp po boy that I didn't get a pic of, but she loved it! Said the shrimp were seasoned well and the bread was delicious. There's NOTHING like French bread from New Orleans! You have to try it if you visit that city, but I digress.
I got the blackened chicken with 2 sides- green beans and red beans and rice, as I wanted to see how the red beans held up to my grandmothers'. In all fairness, nothing will ever come close to theirs, however, I found these red beans to be way too salty. Like guzzle down half my beer after 2 bites salty. The chicken was seasoned well and very juicy. The green beans were tasty too. I'd get that order again, but I'd change out the red beans and rice for something else.
My friend insisted on dessert, so we got the black and white bread pudding. It was a little bit better than ok, but not amazing. I didn't care for the white chocolate and the coconut on it, but that is my preference.
Our server was hard to read. She greeted us but seemed like she was elsewhere in her head. My friend made a joke with her and the server looked like she was going to get really mad at her, but she just walked off, even though she didn't answer the question we had asked. Maybe she was just having a bad day? The portions of all the items we got (minus the oysters cuz they are ordered by 1/2 or whole dozen) were good. The price was more than reasonable. I would definitely come back.
