Shuckin’ Shack Oyster Bar’s Lowcountry Boils Will Land Next Year in Illinois | Eater Chicago

"Planned to open its first Illinois location in Geneva, this North Carolina–based seafood chain—founded in 2007 in Carolina Beach and franchising since 2014—will bring oysters, lobster rolls, low country boils, oyster shooters, chicken wing surf-and-turf plates, family-style steam pots, and sides like hushpuppies to a new development on the border of St. Charles and Geneva by late spring or early summer 2022. The brand has expanded to 16 locations across North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Maryland, and Florida, and the Geneva outpost would be only the second in Illinois—after LondonHouse Chicago—to participate in the James Beard Foundation’s Smart Catch Program for sustainably sourced shrimp, oysters, and more (the Shedd Aquarium has organized a similar local effort). Franchisees Angie and Kyle Howard, who spent much of their careers in the corporate world and say they were drawn to the chain’s casual raw-bar vibe reminiscent of vacation seafood spots in Maine, Massachusetts, and Florida, are negotiating the lease and hope to expand to other Chicago-area suburbs if Geneva proves successful." - Naomi Waxman

Great Food, Great Service – Highly Recommend! I had a great experience at this restaurant! The atmosphere was really nice and welcoming. I sat at the bar, and the barmaid/waitress was super friendly and attentive throughout my visit. I started with the oysters, which were amazing. They had a selection of about four or five different kinds, and I loved that you could mix and match. Each one I had was fresh and delicious. I also tried the crab leg cluster, which came with corn on the cob, very flavorful and cooked just right. Since I was still a little hungry, I added the fish and chips to my order. The fish was perfectly fried with great flavor, and the fries were seasoned nicely, crisp, and tasty. They also had a nice small selection of beers on tap! Even though it looked like only two people were working in the kitchen, they were doing an impressive job keeping up with orders as the place started to fill up. It looked like they even had food and drink specials seven days a week. The overall price was typical for this type of establishment. Everything I had was really good, and the service was top-notch. I’ll definitely be back!

This place is a little local gem, it was like you’re on vacation to Florida when you walk inside. Nice island vibes, clean and spacious restaurant with a big 3 side center bar. I went in for their Monday special 1.25 oysters, also it was happy hour so I got the sharbkite shrimp. I was really impressed! The shrimp came with two slices of garlic bread, and yes it’s a small addition but you never see this anywhere, it’s a really nice low cost enhancement to an app. The shrimp Dippin sauce was also so good. The drink specials here are best I’ve seen in a while. Overall great bar I highly recommend, this would be a great place to bring friends visiting for lunch. It was a little hard to get the bartenders attention, they had some regulars in so I get that. They were chatting it up, I guess that’s a plus, they know their regulars by name.

We were first introduced to this place during a work meeting. Ever since then we have been coming back every few months. Everything on the menu has been worth trying and never disappoints. Obviously you would be better off if you are a seafood lover, as most of the menu is seafood. The drinks are also amazing and not watered down. Will be coming here every time we’re passing by and craving some seafood. Bussin!

This place has a fun Florida vibe. It’s a little loud, but a great spot to chill with friends or anyone. I really liked the relaxed and casual atmosphere. The oysters are the main reason I come back. They’re super fresh. I’ve tried most of them: • Summer Love and Island Creek were clean and refreshing, but honestly a bit overpriced • Salty Mainer had a dirty ocean flavor. Kind of stinky, but still fresh. Not for everyone, but I didn’t mind it • Eastpoint and House oysters are my favorites. They’re affordable, especially on Mondays or during happy hour. Eastpoint has a creamy, fresh flavor that I’ll definitely order again The service needs improvement. No one greets you when you walk in, and the staff seems really busy. We waited over 30 minutes before realizing our food had gone to the wrong table. No one checked on us, and we had to flag someone down. The staff was kind, but everything felt disorganized and understaffed. The food was hit or miss. • Mussels came out lukewarm, and most of the shells were still closed. It was frustrating to eat • The corn on the side of the mussels tasted super watery. This was my least favorite part of the meal • Fish and chips were perfectly cooked, but the seasoning on the fried coating was too salty If you’re coming for the oysters and the laid-back vibe, it’s worth a visit. Just be prepared to wait, and skip the sides.

Google
I was disappointed with our experience. Although we had reservations it took a while before anyone tended to seat us. It took a long time for our food and once we received it, it was cold. The sauce was forgotten for our appetizer and the butter for our Shrimp! The food wasn’t bad it just seemed like maybe they were understaffed. Staff were friendly when we could get their attention and the atmosphere was nice and welcoming. We did receive an appetizer gift card for the next visit for the inconvenience.

We ordered delivery through a service and the order came hot, fresh and well packaged. We ordered lobster rolls and roasted veggies. Excellent lobster roll. Plenty of lobster. Good bun. A mustard mayo sauce came on the side and I used a little on a bite and it was good but I preferred just the plain roll. The roasted veggies were really yummy too... broccoli, cauliflower, squash and carrots mix. The shrimp and crab bite appetizers were also great. The crab bites were like fried mini crab cakes. Really yummy and great for sharing.

Google
We were excited to try this restaurant. Learning of seafood genre near us and being from Long Island. Sadly, we were disappointed in the quality of the food. Clams on the half shell is my go-to. There was hardly anything in the shell. The shrimp boil seemed to be pre-made with clumps of seasoning and dried out shrimp. Putting it mildly, my son's chicken tenders were more appetizing.

Google
I really enjoyed our grilled oysters that we order as an appetizer. The armadillo eggs were a surprise, but very tasty. I ordered the fish fry. The breading was disappointing, dry and not very tasty.

Yelp
Had been looking for a true "Oyster Bar" - one with a variety on offer and no minimum quantities which prevent sampling. They had seven on offer, one sold out. High end was $4.25 each. Low end I think was $2.50. Monday night have $1.50 specials. We were there on a Wednesday which happened to be trivia night. Nice friendly vibe. Tried three oysters, got the fried calamari, the steamed mussels and the crab cake. The batter on the calamari and crab cakes were a little salty for our taste. Mussels were steamed with no sauce. But still good. We'll be back to try more.

Yelp
First of all, if you order shrimp, it's like the baby garbage shrimp you get at the grocery store that's like $1 a bag. I got the fried seafood platter The baby shrimp like I mentioned above and like 6-7 small fried oysters with fries Cost $23!!!! Like the food is not even as good as long John silvers!!! Yeah 100% a no go for me.

Yelp
Raw oysters and clam chowder were fantastic. I didn't appreciate them charging me $10 because I used a credit card. Obviously, I subtracted that from the tip. Who carries around $250 in cash? Not me.

Yelp
For a much needed girls night out, my bestie and I stopped in at Shuckin' Shack in Naperville and boy were we in for a treat. The restaurant, though a bit small, it was festively decorated with the bar in the center of the space. We went on a Saturday night where they offered live music. Our night started with their $5 margaritas which though sweet, packed a punch..or my alcohol tolerance is extremely low, one or the other. My bestie let our waitress know this was my first experience with oysters. However, my first experience was years ago and it did not go well. This time it was the complete opposite! We started off with both char-grilled jalapeños / cheddar and garlic/parmesan oysters. Yum!!!! Though being very good, they layered the cheese on very thick. I very quickly transitioned to raw oysters and they did NOT disappoint! They write the special "flavors" of oysters on their announcements/daily special wall. My favorites were Sweet Jesus and the Great White....just delicious! We also tried their fried seafood platter which included fried calamari, fried shrimp and their cold crab dip. Absolutely delicious!! The one negative, this platter came out lukewarm to cold. However, we ate, better yet, I ate every bite! The service was top notch! My bestie and I had a wonderful experience and will definitely be back. I'm hoping for a sit right under their retractable windows in warmer weather!

Yelp
This is a nice cozy restaurant if you're on the search for an oyster spot in Naperville. Along with oysters, the full menu features classic seafood entrees like shrimp and grits and po-boys as well non-seafood entrees like burgers and chicken tacos. There are also daily drink specials. I ordered the oyster daily special which was from the east coast (I don't remember the exact name) as well as the mahi tacos. The oysters were fresh, but I did wish they were a bit brinier. The mahi in my tacos were cooked well. Service was quick and efficient. I will definitely go back to try more!

Yelp
First time customer. I had never tried Shrimp and Grits. Was very delicious I am looking forward to returning and try more of them menu items!

Yelp
10/10 food and service. Bar vibes but with great food. Bonus for having books. Keep in mind the seafood plates to not come seasoned in a bag but are still amazing. Season yourself and they give you butter. Also one of the best micheladas I've ever had. They also have a hot sauce bar? Love it. And I'm so sorry to the bartender who kept catching me staring at her. She was just really pretty.

Yelp
Parking plentiful. Seat yourself upon entry. Pleasant greeters. They explained the menu and the drinks were great. I went for oysters I was expecting charbroiled but I think they were grilled. Overall, pretty decent taste and flavor and very fresh as I went with the house oysters. The melting of cheese made the temperature more luke warm than hot. The clam chowder was okay more potatoes than clams and needed a pinch of salt otherwise good consistency. Scallops were on the bland side but they weren't over cooked which was great in my opinion. The ceviche had more fish than shrimp and could use a pinch of lime but good appetizer. Great bat options and great drinks as mentioned. Great staff. I believe I would go back again one day but I would love charbroiled butter and garlic oyster options.

Yelp
**Shuckin' Shack Oyster Bar: A True Pearl of Naperville** Nestled in the heart of **downtown Naperville**, **Shuckin' Shack Oyster Bar** is a must-visit for seafood lovers and anyone looking for a laid-back, welcoming atmosphere. With **plenty of free parking** right out front, getting there is a breeze, and from the moment you step inside, you're greeted by a **colorful, vibrant, and friendly space** with a fun nautical theme. The **chalkboard menu** is packed with **daily specials** alongside their **regular printed menu**, offering a great mix of options--from fresh seafood to creative cocktails. Speaking of cocktails, their selection is **fun, colorful, and unique**, perfect for pairing with their **fresh seafood** and **incredible oyster selection**--arguably the best in town. But if seafood isn't your thing, don't worry--they've got **burgers, chicken, and plenty of choices for land lovers** too. I started with **The Grega**, a **deliciously fresh and generous portion of cold lobster** served on a top-sliced roll with **butter and a house sauce** on the side that added just the right kick. It was the kind of sandwich that makes you slow down and savor every bite. On a return visit, I had the **double-decker crab sandwich**, which was just as indulgent as it sounds. Another day, I went for the **shrimp and oyster combo**, and let me tell you--it was **heaven on a plate**. I also tried their **fish and chips**, but instead of traditional fries, I opted for **potatoes and sausage**, and it was a game-changer. My colleague shared a few of their **chicken wings**, and I was blown away by the **crispy, panko-like texture**--absolutely fantastic. Beyond the food, the **island vibe** here makes you feel like you're on vacation. There are **regulars who feel like family**, and the **owner is often present, ensuring perfection in every detail**. The staff? **Friendly, attentive, helpful, and incredibly knowledgeable**--the kind of service that makes a place truly special. One of the best surprises was how much there is to **see and take in** while you're there. The walls are filled with **historical menus from Chicago and beyond**, plus **posters and signs that tell a story**. I spent at least **20 minutes just exploring**. Another fun touch? The **Polaroid wall of oyster lovers**--if you eat enough oysters, they take your picture and add it to the collection. One guest recently **ate over 100 oysters**! Everything I tried at Shuckin' Shack was **nothing short of perfection**--this is the kind of place you visit once and immediately start planning your next trip back. Whether you're a seafood fanatic or just looking for a welcoming spot with fantastic food and drinks, **Shuckin' Shack Oyster Bar in Naperville is a must-visit!**

Yelp
This 'take me away from winter in Illinois' location was recommended by a 'local', and the locals know a great find when they happen upon one! You honestly cannot beat the price of oysters on a half shell for $1.25 with their Monday special. It's not only a great value, it's a high quality product! We order a minimum of two on our bimonthly visits! The location is convenient because it's legit three block walk from downtown Naperville! I also like the location because it's our celebratory spot after an infusion visit! The bartender was also very accommodating with my portable oxygen tank! I top off MY OYSTERS with their 'Nutritious' and Extremely Tasty Bloody Mary and their Delicious, Palatable New England Clam Chowder with a dash of Tabasco! Their grilled chicken sandwich isn't too shabby either! Check it out for an appetizer, lunch, or dinner... Why not all three?!?!? Enjoy!

Yelp
We've been in here twice. Each time the place Is almost empty. Today was early on a Tuesday so maybe it's me, but I hope it's not struggling because it's a great spot. The shrimp & grits were delicious. The hush puppies were maybe a little too crispy. My wife had the taco Tuesday special. ($3 tacos which are usually $15 for 2, and they are big tacos). There are plenty of choices for people who don't eat fish. The decor is eclectic beach and our nostalgia. Cute enough in a hokie way. But the bar looks pretty cool and there are lots of TVs, so probably great to watch a game. Their brunch menu looks good. I want to go back for that on a Saturday or Sunday.

Carrie P.

Yelp
We found a great place because I had the taste for clam chowder! The calamari. shrimp and grits, seafood bowl(we did breaded shrimp and fish), and sides of hush puppies(my boyfriend liked them & he doesn't usually like them)& coleslaw were so yummy. They had a good live band. There was also a great Leukemia fundraiser! We donated and got a Hey cancer Shuck off shirt. Our waitress was great.
google avatar

Richard S.

Yelp
Nice atmosphere, cozy and a low key dockside vibe going on. We ordered the Saul T Steam pot. The shrimp and corn were really good & cooked perfectly but sad to say the steamed oysters were over cooked & the clams were a little gritty. We got the calamari and it was not really that great. The breading was the problem with these. The lobster roll sandwich was good. The hush puppies could have been cooked longer but the oil they were cooked in could've been changed. The raw oysters were really good and clean. The fried pickle spears were a really good appetizer. Our server Deanna was accommodating. We've had so much better at other places so unfortunately this wasn't worth it as the prices were really expensive for what you got. This was about $200 for 3 people.

Yelp
Shuckin' Shack is a solid place located in the Gartner strip mall (worst parking lot!). Drinks are solid with the bar and restaurant area not very large but well laid out. The beer menu is pretty average, and service has always been solid. Some of the better dishes are the Shrimp n' Grits and Louie Salad. A lot of fried options and decent appetizers on the menu.
google avatar

Tom B.

Yelp
We had the clam chowder and it was SO SALTY I could barely eat it. We have eaten there before and it was delicious. Have to find a new place to eat.

Jenna K.

Yelp
We have been coming here every few months since it opened, and over the last year it has declined so much. No matter whether we go for lunch or dinner on any given day, there seems to be one main server for the entire place. Tonight, there were actually 3 servers I believe, but one never left behind the bar (even though all 3 were making their own tables' drinks), another was waiting a handful of tables but would greet new guests at the door with a 'someone else will help you', and then the server who always seems to be there. They are 'family friendly' but have no high chairs or crayons for the kid menus. The wait between ordering food and receiving it was nearly an hour. Tonight we got a lobster roll (which tasted like dirty dish water), ahi tuna app, a grouper basket, a side salad and an order of wings. None of these should have taken long, but 45min in I asked the server to go ahead and bring out whatever is ready when ready because I have 3 hungry kiddos, and was met with the rudest defensive blaming a table of 8 for holding up the 2 cooks in the kitchen. When I suggested the people who sat at the bar after we had ordered already had and had eaten most of their food, she stormed back to the kitchen and then slammed the food ticket down on our table telling me to look at the time stamp of when it went in as proof. When the food did start coming out, everything but the ahi tuna arrived, that showed up 5min later. The server 'graciously' took that off due to the wait, which also happened to be the cheapest item we ordered past the salad. The over-fried 5 wings that cost $19 were absolutely not worth it. We used to love coming here and would suggest it to anyone that listened, but I think we're done after the experience tonight.

MacKenzie R.

Yelp
Create a sauce or marinade. The flavor is not there seafood is dry and boring. Service is slow
google avatar

Jasmine C.

Yelp
There was only one server working here on a wed evening . There were wine specials $5 per glass!!! oysters are $1,25 each and huge!!

Jen H.

Yelp
Went back to give this place a second chance. Very glad we did! It was wonderful with great service

Yelp
My friends and I have come twice now for their trivia night (Tuesdays at 7&8 pm), which has been a lot of fun! The host is engaging, and if you win you do get gift cards to the restaurant (so you keep coming back!) Part of our trivia group was vegan/vegetarian, which is admittedly difficult at a seafood restaurant, but they did find the black bean burger and salad options on the menu, which were apparently ok. So far on trivia nights I have had the shrimp basket and the crab cake sandwich, both of which were pretty good. One friend really liked the fruit vodka crushes, especially the watermelon one that tasted like a Jolly Rancher. The service we received (different waitresses) on both trivia nights was good: attentive while realizing that we were also preoccupied, haha. Overall, we'll be back, particularly for trivia!

Yelp
I thought about going to Ramsay's Kitchen for restaurant week but decided to come here instead. The menu looked great, reviews looked solid on Google and mediocre on Yelp. It's located in a strip mall, so parking was more than sufficient. You can easily find a spot and walk over. The restaurant itself is not small, about average. We got greeted upon walking in and they said we can sit anywhere. Our server was Robyn. It started out good but gets worse. So, it took her a little while to take our orders. It wasn't busy at all so I let that slide. We ordered half a dozen oysters and cold crab dip. Usually, appetizers don't take long to prepare and bring out. They weren't very complicated items yet it felt like an eternity. I'll go through the food ratings later on. We finish but Robyn doesn't take away our dirty plates. She completely forgot what we ordered for our entrees. She wrote everything down in the beginning. We ordered shrimp n' grits, greggah with clam chowder, and shrimp po boy with sausage and potatoes. She brings out shrimp n' grits and low country boil. At this point I was hangry and didn't feel like correcting her. For some reason she gave us one clean plate but didn't take away the previous dirty plates. I had to remind her about my po boy and she forgot about that. Eventually, she brings out the po boy with the sausage and potatoes. She asked if we needed any boxes and I said yes, just one. She doesn't come back. Then, we order the desserts. She asked if we needed any boxes and I said again we needed one. She brought out the boxes at last. It seemed like she forgets very easily except for taking the payment. Definitely one of the worst services I have ever encountered. It seemed like it came straight from an episode of Hell's Kitchen. You're just watching and thinking if people are really this bad in real life. Yes, they are terrible in real life. Overall, I would not recommend this place. You have a waitress that can't perform basic duties like taking away dirty plates, remembering orders on slow nights, and being very inattentive. -half dozen oysters 4 - oysters on the smaller side but juicy. -cold crab dip 3 - it could use more crab meat. It was decent with the roasted garlic bread. Dip was a little on the salty side. -low country boil 5 - shrimp was really fresh and meaty. Sausages and red potatoes were well seasoned. -shrimp n' grits - 3.5/5 - interesting spin on the classic but fried grit cakes were okay. Not memorable. Grilled shrimp was moist and meaty. That smoked sausage gravy was delicious and would pair well with the traditional mushy grits. -shrimp po boy with sausage and potatoes 4.5 - toasted French bread was warm, soft, and flavorful. Shrimp and signature sauce paired well with the bread. It was a very decent po boy. Portions were generous. It hit all of the high notes. -creme brulee cheesecake 5 - not as heavy as the chocolate cake. This one is lighter, moist inside, and more robust in terms of flavor. It's like a symphony of goodness on my tastebuds. -chocolate cake 4 - a bit rich, good use of whip cream and strawberry syrup.

Cheryl M.

Yelp
Lobster roll to small no taste, crab legs to small, market prices on many items. Oysters were ok, shrimp basket more fries than shrimp. Won't be back. Way too expensive.

Yelp
This place is Absolutely Amazing the waiters were very kind and funny. The food is amazing I had the oysters and some mussels and it was absolutely delicious. The decorations are very nice and cool there are a lot of cool pictures and decor. I would absolutely recommend this place it is a must try will come back

Yelp
I've been here a few times. Shuckin Shack has now become my neighborhood Taco Tuesday place to go. Their tacos are amazing! I get the grilled mahi taco and the grilled tuna taco. They're generous in size and the fish is always fresh. I love the aïoli that they use on their tacos as well. You can order the tacos grilled, blackened or fried, Their hush puppies are good, too. Although the couple of times I've ordered them, they were fried a little too long as they were very dark in color. My husband loves their taco chips and salsa. Their chips are salty and thick, but they could use some more salsa on the plate as the ratio is way off. They give you a very small container of salsa, which is about an 1/8 cup. Get more salsa on that plate with those tasty chips! We come on Tuesdays especially for their nightly specials. Last night my husband and I had two tacos and a margarita each and spent $22. Yup, such a great deal! Tacos are $3 each à la cart and margaritas are $5 on Taco Tuesday. Don't miss that deal!

Yelp
The food was too salty. They has decent fast service. I don't know why their breading is so salty. I guess so you can buy beer? The breadcrumbs coating the fish n chips tasted like a hush puppy covering. Maybe it's a corn bread flour breading ? I was unimpressed with their food. I won't be going back.

Yelp
I had high hopes about Shuckin' Shack, but felt a bit disappointed after our meal. We ordered takeout and the food was ready when we got there. The inside seemed fun, though a little tight. It seemed more spacious when this location was Walker's Charhouse, but I may be misjudging square footage. We ordered the fish & chips basket and the crab cake sandwich w/ hushpuppies (which was supposed to come standard with slaw). Well, as you can see from the photos, the fish & chips included no fries, and the crab cake sandwich included no coleslaw! The fish and hushpuppies were very good, so they get credit for that. The crab cake sandwich was very salty, though, and my wife couldn't eat much of it. Additionally, both dishes came with melted butter, but I feel the fish & chips should have included tartar sauce instead. Some dressing (i.e. mayo) would have been nice on the crab cake sandwich. Might be growing pains since this place is new, but I'm disappointed we didn't receive the fries or coleslaw.

Yelp
Pretty good food. Clean and nice for the price. Shrimp are a little small but there's a lot of them. Service was a touch slow feeling at times but not bad.

Yelp
What a gem in a strip mall !! Ok first off Mondays are 1.25 oyster days. So we had to try them. OMG. I live for going down to the gulf for seafood but these were so delicious !! We also had mussels. Also delish and hush puppies for appetizers. Onto the food. Lobster roll, this was all meat on a toasty bun. Nothing more to say other than yum. Two shrimp po' boys. Loved the option of grilled being given. Also exceptional. The staff was great the manager (or owner can't remember) came up to us and asked how we liked everything and told us about their ugly sweater party competition with the other restaurant. We will be attending and eating more delicious food !!!

Yelp
Took awhile to get seated. Other people left because of not being acknowledged. After getting a table it took awhile for waitress to come to table. Maybe understaffed but unsure. Food also took awhile to come out. If you go on special night order all the food you want because it will take a very long time. Po boy sandwich was the worst I have ever had but that my opinion. Just expect to be waiting form getting seated to leaving it took over 1.5 hours. Again these are My opinions.

Yelp
Decided to try this place with the help of some coupons off Facebook. I didn't even know it existed, but super glad we came! I ordered the Shrimp Po' Boy and had the potatoes and sausage as a side. The sandwich was huge and very tasty. Could've definitely split it, but ended up finishing the sandwich and taking the side as leftovers. My friend had the Hermit sandwich and also really liked it. She also had leftovers. Absolutely recommend this place; it's fun and kind of tucked away, and the dishes had a lot of flavor. It's unusual to find a seafood spot in this area with so many different items on the menu.

Yelp
1st time @ the shack & was extremely disappointed from the service to the food all was sub-par, not worth the $199 spent tonight. My wife ordered the lobster roll of which the lobster tasted old & past it's prime & I ordered the steamed seafood crab, shrimp, clams & oysters all of which the only edible items were the oysters & crab legs everything else was extremely salt forward. Overall 1 out of 10 in my seafood restaurants & will not be visiting this place again.

Yelp
So I have been here a few times at this point since we live nearby. I had high hopes since I love oysters and seafood in general. The first time we went not long after it opened it was honestly not bad. Then each time we went it just kept getting worse. Every time I go there there's only 1 person working the bar/the only waiter. Service is really slow. I had a margarita and it was maybe the worst I've ever had. It just tasted like a lemonade? Anywho.. we went last week to give this place another try with some family in town and my 1 year old. We walked in and just stood there for a while before being told to "sit anywhere". I'm looking around for a high chair since the waitress was basically ignoring us and then she goes "oh we don't have high chairs". Wtf??? Lmao first restaurant I've EVER been to that didn't have a high chair. Then I was honestly a bit snippy back to her and said "well then we can't eat here and probably never can again". If you want business from young families buy some damn high chairs! So odd. They lost out of a decent bill. Probably won't go back.

Yelp
This is our second time here and we've always had great service and food! Marissa was our waitress and she was great! We will be back again!

Yelp
I am giving this a 3 for only one reason . The food took an unusually longer time than normal to come to our table. If not for that, I would give a 5 rating. The serve staff was friendly and informative. The food was very good and the atmosphere was fun . I will not the time issue prevent me from returning. It just may have been a one o

Yelp
Monday oyster special is amazing!!! The oysters are fresh, the drinks are good. The rest of the food portions were kind of small for the price, but overall a good experience! We'll be back.

Yelp
Ok yum! Reminds me of being on vacation in Florida Been wanting to try this place for awhile finally made it here last night. Had a few raw oysters that were on special. VERY GOOD & VERY FRESH! Had tuna tacos for my entree, husband had oyster po boy. Have to say everything was excellent. Tuna was cooked rare the way I asked, very fresh. Hangover fries were on special so we tried those - yummy! Let me say the hushpuppies were to die for! But very filling. They have weekly specials on the chalkboard. Highly recommend & will be back!

Yelp
All you can eat fish fry typical restaurant bait (no pun intended) and switch. Took forever to receive ordered food and wait person never returned to our table to see if anyone wanted to enact the All you can eat. When flagged down and fish ordered the wait was 30 minutes for two pieces of fish angrily and loudly slapped down on table. Wait person was also acting as full time bartender as the establishment is woefully understaffed. Food was meh... service was subpar. I have never been more tempted to leave a $0.00 tip with a message on the bill. Save yourself and find a Long John Silver.

Yelp
Absolutely the worst service. Been twice gave it another chance first time waited 20 minutes for any service second time sat 15 minutes one person every even came out. So they never knew I was ever even there. So sad

Yelp
Went on late Saturday afternoon. Very casual and clean place. The staff was very welcoming when we walked in and our server was terrific and very helpful. My wife and I ordered the steam pot and 2 dozen mussels and this was definitely plenty for two people, but we ate everything because it was all very good. The seafood was fresh and very tasty. Will definitely be back to try other items on the menu or one of their weekday specials. Great to have a place like this close by!

Yelp
We really enjoyed our first Shuckin Shack visit!!! We sat at the bar and loved that they have NFL Sunday ticket so they played every NFL game. I LOVED my Bloody Mary - the mix was delicious and loved that it came with some toppings. The Michelada was also delicious esp with that oyster! The shrimp cocktail was just ok but we loved the fresh horseradish in the cocktail sauce. Loved all of the varieties of oysters! They were very fresh. We enjoyed the crab cocktail esp with the buttered bread for it. Service was attentive and quick. Bonus points for all of the fun decor. Only subtracted a star for the shrimp and the fact that you needed to tear your own napkins from the rolls in front of you (I know - I'm a big baby) otherwise it was a wonderful visit and we can't wait to come back and try more!!!

Yelp
I had $1.25 blue point oysters and white stone oysters and they were delicious! My daughter ordered burger & fries. The burger was burnt pretty bad at the bottom but the fries were delicious! The customer service was da bomb as well‍

Yelp
My family had dinner at Shuckin Shack Oyster Bar and we all ordered the Fish & Chips made with cod. The fish was fresh and both the fries and food filets were expertly cooked. Our only disappointment was that the batter was too salty. We were warmly greeted upon arrival & Mimi our server was pleasant and was knowledgeable about the menu options. Service was great and prompt. Ambiance was bright and colorful with plenty of TVs. We look forward to returning and checking out grilled fish options . Joe , Tammy & Brittany

Yelp
This place is a hidden gem! It could absolutely hold its own as a stand alone restaurant in a more trafficked part of town. Decor, tables, and bar were all clean and cared for. I could bring my kids here but it was also great for an adult night out with friends. Our waitress was delightful and the perfect balance of attentive but also leaving us alone. We did apps/drinks for about 90 min then had dinner. The food was all excellent. We shared the cold crab dip, shrimp skillet, and calamari and all were delicious. I had crab legs for my meal and they were easy to crack, full of meat, and even the body meat was fresh tasting and not at all fishy. When you go, consider buying a round of drinks for the staff. It's $10, they ring a bell (and the kitchen staff cheers:) Not a replacement for a tip, but a fun way to appreciate the whole team. We'll be going back!

Yelp
Two of us arrived around 5pm on a Saturday. We were told it was a 40 minute wait since we weren't on the waitlist. This isn't mentioned online nor is there an option for reservation. The woman told us that it's first come first serve. There were several open tables, but were told that this was due to the low number of wait staff. We put our name in and decided to wait. Keep in mind, we were the only ones waiting for a table at this point (but it was still going to be 40 minutes for a table). After about 5 minutes, the hostess phoned another customer on the wait list to let them know they can come in. She responded "okay, see you in 10 minutes!" First off, not only is that rude for the patrons sitting and waiting for a table, but it makes no sense to have a waitlist if those people will cause others to wait longer. System needs some work. Food was okay. Coming from Louisiana, we we're pretty disappointed in the quality of the oysters. But being in the Midwest, you can't complain too much. Nachos were mostly chips than toppings. I also ordered a pineapple crush drink, that was mostly juice and didn't have a hint of alcohol in it. Experience was sub par and disappointed to say we will not be returning.

Yelp
I ate here yesterday for dinner. Definitely not my kind of place. Only a few things on the menu had prices. Everything else was marked with the words "market price " I just don't feel comfortable ordering things so I don't know what it's going to cost. If the market cost changes regularly, it's up to the restaurant to change their menu prices on a regular basis for their customers. Yesterday, my wife and I went for dinner and had tacos since they were the special between the two of us. We had five tacos. Two orders of hush puppies and four armadillo eggs We each had two beers and a margarita and a bloody Mary. The bill came out to $72. The tacos were three dollars each and the margarita was a special for five dollars. The food was just very average. The mixed drinks were well-made. I just don't think I will be coming back and trying this again.

Yelp
This was place my husband want to try for Father's Day. We arrive around 6:45pm. First impression was good crowd. We at at the bar. There were dirty dishes at the end of the bar. Another couple was already at the bar, then another couple sat down along with an individual. The couple already there made mention they were a little unorganized. That was too kind of a statement, they staff was a hot mess. They closed the restaurant at 7:15pm. Reason given computer issues. Strange our order was taken on the computer and our bill was generated on the computer. The staff was unorganized, they complained, appeared no one could make a decision or show leadership. As a paying customer I don't want to hear about the problems, show professionalism and keep the issues to the back of the house. Food was below par. Ordered the Hermit, it was to come on a toasted fresh roll, arrived on a hamburger bun, with one piece of fish, so small that their was more bun than fish. The fries were cold. They had run out of bread. Husband had fish and chips, his fries were hot. Based on the issues I would have expected the owner to show up and figure out what the true issues were. This was one and done. We don't recommend this location.

Yelp
Aw shucks This missed the mark for me, and quite disappointing. The flavors were just off and everything was expensive. I know prices are high right now especially for seafood, but if the food isn't good then it's not worth it. I'll start by saying I got a half dozen oysters on the shell, which were fine. You really can't mess up raw oysters. We got a cup of clam chowder soup and a cup of gumbo, and the flavors were off. It was subtle, but I didn't think it was right. For entree's we got the lobster roll, which had a name but I don't remember what it was. Almost every lobster roll I've had before either was dripping with butter or had more of a thin creamy sauce. I don't think there was anything on this lobster roll, and if it was intended to put butter on it, they didn't give me the butter. We also got a crab cake sandwich, again don't remember the name of it, but it tasted like Thanksgiving stuffing between a bun. I decided to remove the bun and eat the crab cake on it's own, and it really didn't taste good. It would be a cute place if the food was good, but I probably won't be going back.
