Google
I pre-ordered items from Shuei-Do Manju via email. It was easy and there is a separate window to pick up pre-ordered items so you can avoid the line. I got a box of 8 items and the total was $20. By the time we got there around noon on a Saturday, there was a short line but they were sold out of all of the chichi dango and butter mochi. I am not Japanese so I'm not an expert, but I will try to do my best to describe the items we got! Peanut butter - this was my favorite item from the shop. It's mochi that is filled with peanut butter (and maybe lima bean according to the website) and coated in kinako. The mochi was so tender and chewy and it had just the right amount of peanut butter in it. Mango & strawberry chichi dango - again, the mochi itself had a wonderful texture. The flavors were quite subtle and kind of reminded me of hi-chew candies. White manju - this was like a steamed bun filled with azuki (red bean paste). The bun itself is quite thin (so not like dim sum style buns). I haven't had manju before so I enjoyed trying it. Kinako - another mochi item with great texture. I think it has a filling but I didn't notice much taste wise and it was coated in kinako powder. Brown inaka - this is similar to the white manju except the red beans were whole and it's made with brown sugar. Again, fun to try. Overall, I really enjoyed everything we got but if I were to return, I would get the peanut butter mochi. I also want to try the butter mochi and monaka on my next visit!

Google
I traveled all the way from Alaska for this mochi and it was 100% worth my time. Sweetest employees and the butter mochi is perfectly buttery, not overly sweet and has a nice semi-soft flaky topping. The strawberry dango is lightly flavored. The portions are amazing. I spent $30 for a box of 12 pieces.

Google
Pretty solid mochis. Got a box of 4 (yomogi, green tea, peanut butter, butter mochi) for $10. Can mix and match flavors however you like. Mochis were a nice texture, the ones with red bean paste were really sweet though. I think the best ones are the butter and peanut butter, but overall their not on Japan level. Maybe the best we got here. They take contactless payments and are very efficient. It is just an order window and as soon as you pay they will hand you your order. Street parking but free residential street parking a block or 2 north

Google
Run as fast as you can towards this place. We even brought home a 4-pack of butter mochi to Denver today. The texture, the sweetness, the moistness of the dessert. It was an impromptu stop on the way to the airport and I am so happy we went back for seconds! 🤤🤤

Google
We got 10 of the most popular mochis, and I’m not gonna lie, imo I thought they’re like at most 10% better than some other mochis (Nijiya across the street). I loved the butter mochi, the kinako, and the pink white. The other azuki bean filled mochis taste sort of the same (or maybe my palate’s kinda bad). The steamed cake was disappointing for me. For chi chi dango, for some reason the weekly flavour (passionfruit) was so much more flavourful and softer than the regular strawberry one which tasted artificial, so definitely make that choice.

Google
Shuei-Do has always been one of my go tos for homemade mochi in the Bay Area and even more so now that Benkyodo closed down. Highly recommend the butter mochi, white bean mochis, Monaka, and if you’re curious to try other ones, kinako. They do run out on the weekends and towards the end of the day. While mochi is vegan/ gluten free, they sometimes use non gluten free and dairy ingredients.

Google
Delicious fresh mochi! It's a small place with a walk up window for ordering which was unexpected, but the prices are reasonable and the quality is very good. I prefer traditional mochi (habutai), but the green tea was really good too. My friend wanted the peanut butter and brown inaka, but I think the habutai is definitely better imo.

Google
The woman at the window was so kind! I ordered a tray of 8, but I regret not getting more!! The mochi (manju) are so soft and pillowy... I got the green tea, pink and white, peanut butter, and the butter mochi. They're all so delicious!!

Yelp
I love this place and their mochi!! I've been coming here for years now. It's definitely getting pricier each year, but the quality is still as good as it was before! The parking situation is annoying as it is in downtown sj and need to pay for street parking, but if you go on a Sunday, then parking is free. I would recommend going early if you want a better selection of flavors as they do tend to run out in the afternoon. I got the green tea, kinako (soy bean powder), pink white (lima bean), peanut butter, and two raspberry chichi dangos this time. My favorite is their butter mochi, but they are only available fri-sun. Their fruit chichi dangos are great too if you prefer fruit flavored mochi with beans! They announce the daily flavors on instagram each week.

Yelp
i was very disappointed when i came two weeks ago (sunday 1pm). 2/4 of my mochis were hard, stale like they've been sitting out, even a day old. FOOD: thankfully today for the japantown obon festival, they were better. i didn't taste much from the mugworth powder, the soybean powder is a lot like peanut powder. the mochi is REALLY thin, stretchy, sweet. the filling is SUPER SWEET, smooth. preferred the red bean over the lima bean. $2.50 each and u must get 4, 6, or 8. SERVICE: waited in line behind 13ish people? 20mi wait. order at a window. efficient service was nothing special. received mochi fast since only got 4 OVERALL: not smt i crave or would get often, but im also not a big bean mochi fan. hopefully service is consistent and i just came on a bad day

Yelp
We stumbled upon this place while walking around Japantown in SJ and decided to try some mochi as I haven't had butter mochi in a while. I'm not sure which flavors we picked as they were running out and there were only a few options left. We waited in line for about 5 minutes and got our mochi immediately after we ordered. The top two mochi in the picture (the cream disc and the white red bean mochi in the top right corner) weren't very tasty. They were very dry and bland and we threw them away as they were unappetizing. The bottom two mochi (butter mochi square and the pink red bean mochi) tasted better than the other two but I was still disappointed as they just tasted average. I love butter mochi but this didn't do anything for me as there was nothing special about it. The pink mochi was also just okay as it was chewy and tasted fresh but the red bean flavor didn't really pop. I don't think I'd come back here again as the food was just okay but I'm glad I tried it as it did satisfy my butter mochi craving.

Yelp
Since the store is in Japantown, we had to drive around to find street parking and walk to the store. We ordered at the counter and it was immediately ready so we didn't have to wait! You can order by the tray or individually by the piece. I got the Butter Mochi and this was so delicious. It was soft and sweet, but not too overly sweet which I enjoyed! I would come back solely just for their Butter Mochi!!!

Yelp
If you're anywhere near San Jose's Japantown, do yourself a favor and stop by Shuei-Do. It's a tiny, old-school shop that's been making fresh mochi and manju. I grabbed an assorted box and honestly, every piece was amazing. The shop is small and gets busy, especially on weekends, but the staff is super friendly and helpful. Heads up: they do sell out of popular flavors, so go early or call ahead if you have your heart set on something.

Yelp
I walked by this place many times but this was the first time I stopped to try some mochi. I got 3 different flavors : peanut butter, butter mochi and blueberry. My favorite was the peanut butter. So, soft and chewy and very peanut y taste. The texture of all mochi was very soft and chewy. Everything came out in a few mins! I'll be back to try more flavors.

Yelp
My coworker told me about this place and I knew I had to try it. I absolutely loved it. I'll definitely be back for more.

Yelp
Came here for shaved ice during Obon. $6 for a bowl, an additional $1 for azuki (red bean). I don't usually seek out shaved ice because I've had a lot of mediocre shaved ice, but the people I was with wanted it. It was SO good. We got blue vanilla with azuki and POG (passionfruit-orange-guava) without. They were HEAPED, and the flavors were strong. The POG was really delicious by itself. I think the azuki really enhanced the vanilla. I would come here again for the next festival!

Yelp
A must must must whenever I am in J-town on the right day. So many childhood happy memories of these soft little treats of deliciousness! I ordered 16 altogether, I believe for $40. Tip for travel (I often take them on travel to friends and fam: They do well if you individually wrap them before placing in the freezer (in a freezer bag). Ensure they thaw on the counter for a few hours and they are just as bouncy and wonderful. (Bonus: If you want to cut them, halfway through the thawing process is a perfect time to get a clean cut.)

Yelp
Great place for manju! There's always a long line when it's open, but you can also pre-order and they announce their upcoming flavors for chichidango on their Instagram. There's only street parking in Japantown, but there's usually some parking available unless there's an event. When we went on 3/1, they were offering sakura mochi after 12pm. There was a line that went past the next store, but it went by pretty quickly, about 15 min. Above the store window, there's a sign of what's available at the time and there will be a sold out sticker if they run out, and they do run often out before closing, especially the more popular manju. The manju is very soft and pillowy when fresh. The chichi dango has a strong fruit flavor, but is also very soft. My favorite is the kinako, which always has an excess of kinako powder. The sakura mochi had marinated perilla leaf wrapping some sticky rice with sweet bean paste inside. During Obon and Nikkei Matsuri, they sell shaved ice, which always has a long line. Would highly recommend if you love sweets or are in need of a gift!

Yelp
Excellent small manju and mochi shop. I liked the raspberry mochi. Order outside at the window. Street parking is available (bring coins).

Yelp
Nice little take out manchu matcha shop in Japan Town in Sam Jose CA. Best to order online because the good matcha will sold out in a few hours. Order thru the window. No eating in shop. These matchas are to die for. Very delicious. Every single one is delicious. Can buy single or gift box sizes. Reasonable prices. Very fresh.

Yelp
Living near this place is a treat. A japantown favorite that best exemplifies the community here! People line up for this mochi and manju every Thursday to Sunday. I definitely recommend getting there earlier than later because they sell out quickly. They rotate chi chi dango flavors every week and butter mochi is only available on weekends! The butter mochi is the most popular I'd say, and it's delicious. These treats are all pillowy soft and the perfect sweetness. Don't miss out!

Yelp
I absolutely love everything I have had from here! My Recommendations: My favorite is the Butter Mochi: DELICIOUS. This one is the one I crave the most. So smooth, buttery, and perfectly bouncy. Pink Tsubu: Light and smooth. I order this one often. Green Tea: Stronger flavor and worth trying! TIP: Be adventurous and try different flavors each time you go so you can figure out what you like! Service: Staff is quick and once you order, you usually do not have to wait long for your order. Ambiance: This is modeled as a store front so there is no seating. You'll order at the window and wait for your order. Parking: Parking can be tricky here during peak times. All of the spots nearby are metered parking Overall: Honestly this is the best mochi I've had in the Bay. I dream about it (seriously).

Yelp
This place I think makes the best mochi in the bay. There's always a super long line out the door especially if you come like in the late morning (except randomly on this past Saturday, there was no line, maybe because of a holiday weekend?) We got a box of 4 and a box of 10, total $35. Pros: - DELICIOUS MOCHIS, alot of options to choose from. the mochi is so soft and QQ texture, and the inner filling is amazing. Love redbean! It's soooo fresh and tasty I understand why they sell out so quickly (the menu will gradually have things crossed out that they're out of as the morning goes by). I like mixing and matching and getting a bunch of different flavors. - Really efficient service, the ladies who work here are fast at boxing and taking your order, so be ready by the time you get to the window so you're not holding up the line. - They do take credit card. Cons: - Street parking in this Japantown SJ area can be difficult if it's a really busy weekend 10/10 will be back again

Yelp
5 stars all around! Everyone needs to check out Shuei-Do and at minimum get a 6 piece box to experience the fresh and delicious mochi they make daily! The staff here are so friendly and helpful. They do take card so no worries on carrying cash. I highly recommend going earlier in the morning when they open because they do sell out on certain items. Parking can be a bit difficult to find on the weekends and lines can get long.. but it's worth it, I promise! My favorite is the butter mochi, I have to always get that and a mix of the other ones. Also, make sure to check out their special flavors!

Yelp
I had this saved for so long but have not been able to get it until now since they are closed 3 days out of the week. I got a box of 4: yomogi, green tea, kinako, and pink white. The mochi skin is so soft and the filling is perfect sweet. Really enjoyed it with my matcha. If you're in the area during the right time I highly recommend. Also would make a good gift
google avatar

Maximiliano G.

Yelp
I've come here a few times and it's always great! I came here early in the afternoon on a weekend and they still had most of their flavors in stock. I ordered about 7-8 different types and it was ready in about 3-4 minutes. They are all really yummy and I recommend coming here!

Yelp
Not a local and have never heard of this shop before. I'm not the biggest fan of mochi, but after trying this I fell in love xD . My Partner's sister got me a box assortment of fresh made mochis. I don't remember which one's which but they all tasted amazing. The mochi was so soft & chewy, despite that its been in a 8hr drive. My top favorite was probably the butter mochi and the one with kinako powder. If you happen to pass by Japantown in San Jose, definitely check this place out and grab yourself a sweet treat ;)

Yelp
I've been hearing about this almost hidden mochi shop in San Jose's Japantown. I was worried about the take-out mochi selling out, and they almost did when I got there! Many of their flavors were sold out but I was able to try their yomogi, kinako, pink tsubu, and pink white mochis. From my first time going, I love being able to pick out my own box! They have different tray amounts and you can individually select what you want in your box. The cashier was very nice in helping me understand how to order and letting us know what was sold out. They were also very quick to pack up the mochi and hand it out to you! It seems they were card-only so remember that! I would love to bring a box to visiting friends or family to try! The fresh mochi was not overly sweet and had a soft, chewy consistency. My favorite mochi I tried was the kinako! I would definitely recommend it. I have brought so many people here as it is such a local spot. They have all loved this special taste of Japan in San Jose! Be sure to enjoy the mochi as soon as possible even though they do not have any seating. Since they make their mochi fresh, it could harden quickly. Take it home and enjoy it within the next few days.

Yelp
pros: -the best mochi EVER; get one of each!! -huge selection - they are all so good -highly recommend to go early because they sell out quickly cons: -none

Yelp
This mochi shop has been in my bookmarks for a looong time! Unfortunately, I went a little late in the day so they were already sold out of half of their options. At least, I got to try the peanut butter, chichi dango, and yamogi. As a peanut butter lover, I enjoyed the strong peanut butter flavor. Paired with the soybean powder on the outside of the mochi, the peanut butter mochi was very fragrant and nutty. The chi chi dango was soooo soft. I need to know how they got it to such a perfect consistency; it'd cave to the weight of your fingers--even if you held it gently--but you wouldn't come away with sticky fingers. Honestly, they say it's disrespectful to play with your food, but trust me, you'll understand when you order it. My favorite of the three was the yamogi. The thick blob of red bean paste melded with the soft mochi layer to create such a wonderful sensation of lightness and an earthy fragrance in your mouth. I seriously can't wait to come back and try other mochi!

Yelp
My boyfriend and I visited Shuei-Do Manju Shop on a Saturday after failing to wake up early enough to get the Ichigo Daifuku from Santo Market. It was a cute little manju shop in Japantown. This was my actually second time having their mochi, but it's been years. Last time I had it, my friend had surprised me a few mochis because she thought I would like them. Usually, I'm not a huge red bean fan, but I let it slide because of how soft and yummy the mochi was. This time, my boyfriend and I got a 6-piece box to sample which included the yomoji, pink tsubu, kinako, brown inaka, peanut butter, and the POG flavored chi chi dango (Passion Fruit, Orange, Guava). My favorites were the kinako, brown inaka, and the peanut butter. The peanut butter one, in particular, really impressed us. The nutty flavor paired so well with the soft, chewy mochi. It makes sense, since kinako powder, which has a slight nuttiness, is often paired with mochi. That peanut butter flavor quickly became my boyfriend's favorite, while I couldn't get enough of the kinako-flavored ones. They were soft, plump, sweet, and delicious. The POG chi chi dango also surprised me. You could definitely taste the fruity POG flavor and if you like mochi mainly for the chewy texture, this one may be for you since it's all mochi with no filling. As for the yomoji mochi, I was hoping for more of a distinct mugwort flavor, but it ended up tasting very similar to the pink tsubu, so I couldn't tell them apart too easily. Overall, every flavor was solid. I'll definitely be back to try the butter mochi if I'm ever in San Jose's Japantown again!

Yelp
I wish I found this place sooner! Shuei-Do is a hole in the wall shop (literally, it's just a window opening where you order and pick up, no inside seating) that specializes in the most delicious Japanese sweets. I randomly had a very specific craving for chi chi dango one day, and I looked all over the local Japanese grocery stores to find some that was fresh, but it was nowhere to be found. All I was able to find at other places was mochi that was filled with bean or ice cream, but sometimes I just want that mochi-like texture with no filling ya know? It wasn't until I was getting Aloha Fresh one day that I walked down Jackson and noticed there was a nondescript mochi shop that had exactly what I was looking for! Shuei-Do has chi chi dango in multiple flavors, and there's lots of combo options for buying, or you can just buy as much as you like. My favorite chi chi dango is their strawberry one. I've also tried their butter mochi, which is really good. Everything I've tried at this place so far has been deliciously soft and chewy, and not too sweet. I would definitely recommend checking Shuei-Do out! I haven't found anywhere else like it out here, and I'm so happy I now have a go-to spot for when I'm craving chi chi dango! Also excited to come back and try more of their treats :)

Yelp
The line outside this manju shop can get super long and intimidating on Saturdays, but I discovered that there is pretty much no line on Sundays since so many businesses in Japantown are closed. It's the perfect time to stop by, especially since parking is also free on Sundays! I got a pack of 4 for $10 and picked the yomogi, monaka, chi chi dango, and butter mochi. I love how the mochi here is a little grainier than the store-bought kind and you can taste the natural sweetness from the rice. The yomogi was stuffed with smooth azuki beans. The azuki filling was so tasty but it was pretty sweet so I wish I had some tea or coffee to pair with it. The chi chi dango and butter mochi are great options for anyone looking for manju without beans. The chi chi dango really showcases how soft and tasty the mochi is. Their butter mochi is tasty but I think I would rather get their other mochi-based manju because the soft mochi is too good. The manju is not cheap but the pieces are definitely shareable (and rice and beans are pretty filling). With so few shops making homemade manju these days, this place is a must-try!
google avatar

Yelp
Mochi shops aren't very common and that's what makes this place unique. This mochi shop hand makes their own mochi and sells a variety of different types. I got a pack of four. Chi chi dango (5/5): Todays flavor was guava. It was very chewy and flavorful. I recommend if you just want mochi without filling. Green tea (5/5): Very strong matcha flavor and very chewy. Butter mochi (5/5): This was savory and provided a lunch type flavor. Strawberry danko (5/5): Had to wait till 12 for this, but it was great. Still the best mochi shop in town.
google avatar

Nick C.

Yelp
I came here on the weekend and there was a line up but moves quickly. It's takeout only and the menu with photos are listed on the window. They switch up the chi chi dango flavors and have butter mochi on the weekends. My favorite was definitely the butter mochi! I gave it 4 stars because I'd like to see fruits inside the mochi as a menu item. It's still a nice place to try traditional mochi.
google avatar

Yelp
My first memories of getting manju was when my parents would drive to San Jose to pick up a box. It has been a stop for me whenever I come to the San Jose area and I have to make sure to also pick up a box for my parents. I love the pink white and peanut butter. Make sure to get there early or the faves may sell out. I've tried ordering in advance as well and that made pick up easy!

Yelp
Soft, fluffy, delicious. The mochi here is authentic and well made ~ It's a must try when you're in the area

Yelp
My husband and I decided to come by to grab some manjus this past Saturday before we leave the Bay Area. We got there around 1030AM and there was a line. The line does move fast so don't be discouraged. There is no indoor seating -- in fact, you can't go inside. You order at the window and they call your name when it is ready. I decided to go for an 8pc tray and I got two pieces of strawberry chi chi dango, two pieces of milk chi chi dango, two pieces of kinako, one peanut butter, and one butter mochi. I also got a 4pc variety for my friend back home. Their manjus were so soft! I loved the texture! The chi chi dango have very light flavors and wasn't too sweet. The kinako was on the sweeter side and was probably my least favorite. The peanut butter one was really good too but I think our favorite was the butter mochi! The butter mochi is only available on Friday-Sunday. Definitely good quality manjus. The price is on the higher end. It was $20 for 8 pieces and $10 for 4 pieces. But if I was in the area again, I wouldn't mind coming back for more!

Yelp
Was really a hole in the wall. I wanted to see what Japantown in San Jose was like and to me disappointment, there wasn't much. However, I saw a few people one line for this place and s decided to try it out. My first time trying manju and I really enjoyed it. The texture of the outside layer was like mochi (maybe I have the mochi one). I'm still new to this lol but anyways, the red bean filling was great! It was a little too sweet for my liking, but overall, a great little sweet treat. It also looks like a small business so super happy to support!

Yelp
A cute little hole in a wall Manju/Mochi shop in San Jose is a must try! We arrived around 11:30am with no one in line! We ordered a box of 4 for $10 or $2.50/each: Habutai, Butter Mochi, Raspberry Chi Chi Dango & Green Tea. These little soft rice flour Manju bites like a Mochi. It's a little sticky, a little chewy and comes with a variety of fillings including azuki beans and lima beans. Best part is that it doesn't melt even in the hot 100 degrees temperature (walking around with it, left it in the car later). If you love some sweet dessert and a little pick me up, check out Shuei-Do!
google avatar

Cynthia W.

Yelp
This place has the softest and freshest mochi! My favorites are the butter mochi and peanut butter mochi! The butter mochi is so fluffy and their mochi isn't too sweet either. It's also convenient that they offer various sized boxes. Service is quick. Highly recommend to try out this place!

Janice M.

Yelp
The chichi dango are sooooooo soft and good. I bought some on Thur and finished them quickly. Happened to be in the area again today and ordered more. Got there around 10:15 and there was a line already. So glad I pre-ordered and didn't need to wait in line. Wish I live closer and will eat it every day!!!

Yelp
You have to appreciate the amount of labor and artistry to churn out these perfect looking manju and mochi. I miss the days you could go inside and see all of them in their display case. The outside of the mochi is very soft and pillowy, and then the inside is filled with sweetened whole azuki beans or smooth azuki paste. Yum! Chi Chi Dango flavors change frequently. Like Raspberry, Pineapple, Guava, Yuzu, Melona, Strawberry, Mango, etc. The service is always nice, patient, and friendly.

Yelp
Apparently their claim to fame is that a Japanese emperor ate their mochi on his visit to America & I can see why. Their mochi is nice and soft and I've never had anything like their butter mochi, which had a rich buttery texture with notes of caramel. I do agree that the mochi was on the pricier side compared to the one I had in SF but nothing ridiculous. Each mochi was around $5. Service was quick. As soon as you tell them what you want, they were able to package and give you the mochi right away, which I liked. However, when we arrived around 3 pm, they did ran out of a lot of items due to the fact that they closed at 4 pm. Located in San Jose Japantown and right across Nijiya Market, I highly recommend Shuei-Do if you're in the area. The butter mochi was super good!

Yelp
So glad I got to stop by with my parents today. My mom loves to eat red bean mochi/ manju ever since I was a kid. She was excited to get them. They were very fresh, not too sweet, the mochi was nice and chewy. They are close Monday through Wednesday. Will definitely be going back!

Yelp
I like the soft taste of their red bean mochi. In spring they always made a sakura pink with leafy wrap. (Sold out very quickly). The mochi is not very sweet for me that's what I like it. It's just a little shop to order at the window. Service is ok. No complains.

Yelp
Most of the mochi flavors had sold out by 2:30 pm, leaving only Peanut Butter and Yomogi options. Mochi is a delightful and sweet dessert. The mochi shop is situated in a tranquil neighborhood. $10 for 4 mochi. Order at the window, pay, and pick up your mochi immediately.

Yelp
As a Japanese girl, mochi's practically it's own food group for me. It's difficult to find affordable mochi and manjus in the Bay Area--but in my opinion, this is the closest you can find to authenticity in the Bay Area. The shop isn't anything special--old school, small, and take-out only. The menu is standard with several varieties of manju and mochi. You can order per piece or in a set either in person at the window or by calling in your order. The ladies do a great job with turnaround since it can get busy. Our order was swiftly packed, my name was called, and we enjoyed nibbling on the go. My companion and I wanted to get there early so they wouldn't sell out. We ordered a Six Piece Tray Size: Green Tea, Pink White, Pink Tsubu, Brown Inaka, White Manju, and Peanut Butter. I appreciated the variety they sold for fillings as I love both lima and azuki bean. The Pink White and Green Tea were my favorites because the filling was smoother instead of chunky--personal preference. The mochi itself was fresh and pillowy soft while the manju was baked and dense. For fans of mochi and manju in the Bay Area, Shuei-Do Manju Shop is your best bet. Their specialty treats will surely fill you with happiness like they did to me. It's affordable, quality-made, and efficient. Their location off of Jackson Street is metered parking only.

Yelp
AMAZING mochi in SJ - for a great price too! We came around on a weekend around lunchtime. We ordered at their window and our mochis came out a few moments later. I tried the green tea and the chi chi dango (strawberry) mochis. The mochi was SO soft and had the perfect chewiness. My fav of the two was the green tea because I really liked how fragrant the green tea flavor was and how the azuki bean wasn't too sweet. You can also find Shuei-Do Manju at a couple of grocery stores around the Bay Area!

Yelp
If you're craving Mochi, I would recommend trying Shuei-Do! So many choices but my favorite is the peanut butter one. The mochi is fresh and so good! Shelf life: 3 days if left in room temp. Located in Japantown so parking can be a challenge.

Yelp
The best manju in town; it's pure perfection! Always so fresh, soft, and chewy mochi. Definitely arrive in the early morning or preorder otherwise most flavors will be sold out by noon!

Yelp
This place is a JTown staple! Whenever I am in town, I make sure to stop by. The manju is fresh, chewy, not too sweet and great for sharing! Service is quick and friendly. I will continue to support this business and highly recommend stopping by!

Yelp
The day I stopped by had guava as the special & even though they sold out, they said I could buy the trimmed pieces which I was more than happy to take! To be honest, I think I like it better cut up smaller like that. Our favorite is the peanut butter!

Yelp
Tried some deliciously soft mochi in Hawaii and my bf was craving more so heard of this place where the business says on the website that they served the Emperor of Japan loll. Tried this place out, they only had limited the first time but we also came a second. For red bean lovers i think they put alot of filling in but it was a bit much for me. I liked their just mochi squares but they're kind if big. I liked the butter mochi and the red bean cookie. It was good but i liked the one in hawaii betta.

Yelp
I come here for the special shaved ice that the shop only sells during Nikkei Matsuri and San Jose Obon. It's pretty good with its mix of colored syrup, sweetened condensed milk, red bean, and vanilla ice cream. The only I kind of wanted was more red bean at the base. The service was quick, but the line is long. And the ambiance is outdoors duringa festival.

Yelp
This is an old school Japanese manju shop in SJ Japantown. They have a pretty standard menu but they list specials on their Facebook page. They take orders in advance via phone or email, but you can walk up and pick from whatever is left. The shop is small and certainly not fancy. The staff is friendly but (again) old school. Here's the thing though: I think (until I'm proven wrong) they sell the best mochi and manju in the country. I've tried the other shops in LA, Honolulu, etc and they just don't come close to the freshness and flavor that Shuei-Do has managed to maintain for decades. Outside of taking a flight to Tokyo, this is the best there is.

Yelp
Not the best Mochi I've ever eaten but it's not bad. Very aesthetic mochi and we ordered one of everything but I personally thought the mochi flavors all tasted similar and wasn't anything special.
