I’ve ordered from DoorDash a few times, but today I decided to dine in. This was some of the best special fried rice I’ve had in a long time. I asked if they could make the rice darker, and they added soy sauce—it turned out fantastic. The chicken wings were perfectly crispy without being overcooked. While there were only seven people dining in and I ate out of a starfoam plate, it was clear they have a strong takeout business. I recommend ordering on-site and asking for the fried rice extra dark if you’re craving something reminiscent of classic New York-style fried rice and wings. Side note a robot brings your food so kids are so amazed!

Google
Add patronize's business because it's close and convenient, pay thirty dollars for dinner only received... 4... Duck sauce, make it make sense!!!! I go to another chinese restaurant, they know issue out any condiments , they let the customer get themselves, this place here...shue..Lee feels as though they must hand you things like you're a child, yet still you have paid your hard-earned money patronizing their business, keeping them in business. And this is how they do you, I think I'm gonna take my business elsewhere who I'm treated\nLike family

I don’t know what happened to this place. Ever since the owner stopped working there and left these ladies (possibly daughters) in charge it is headed down hill fast. It used to be always a warm greeting and a smile at the counter, good atmosphere and super friendly service, now they act like they’re scared of you. I took a friend there for lunch because they advertise this robot with a cat face that brings out your food to your table. But that day they brought it out by hand. Besides that, I ordered an Arnold Palmer and even though they have lemonade and iced tea on the premises they wouldn’t accommodate. Furthermore, we ordered dishes that say “served on sizzling plate” and they were brought out on styrofoam. I thought it couldn’t get any worse, but halfway through my meal I picked up a sticky dumpling and underneath there was a whole fly attached to it. After I ate 5 of 7. I discreetly showed the manager on premises and was hoping they would do the right thing and refund me for my meal and offer me a free dish in the future like the owner would have done, but she said she’d take $5 off of a $70 lunch and when I said that wasn’t good enough she said she’d give me 5% off of $70. You’d think they would never want this review to reach the light of day but here we are. They tried to blame the dining room accommodations on the pandemic but let’s face it, the pandemic has Been over for 3 years and they are still pretending we’re in one to stay cheap and lazy. It’s bad enough the food is overpriced. I don’t see this place lasting much longer. We have to just remember the nostalgia of when this place was a fine dining establishment. Now it’s just a fly dishing DUMP. Don’t waste your money. No refund for FLYS!!

I ordered General Chicken and Peacock Chicken dinner combinations - both were freshly made with quality ingredients, hot and well-seasoned and tasted great. Service was excellent. Would definitely recommend.

Google
The prices are reasonable so I was pleasantly surprised by the very tender and delicious Mongolian beef. The fried rice without soy sauce was delicious, as was mondu and miso soup. Recently moved here, so happy to find nice Chinese food. 😍

Google
I have lived down the street from this place for 25 years. Consistently one of the best Chinese restaurants in the entire city. It's owned by a local who actually lives in my neighborhood. Great people, great food, super fast, super affordable.

Google
Not the same as it used to be. We were the only customers dining in in the entire place. Everything was disposable. Food almost seemed prepackaged. Really disappointing. Kind of sad.

Google
Went for Dinner with my niece and her husband for a after xmas dinner our treat never have I’ve been so embarrassed by inviting them the place has gone down hill so bad they now serve there food on paper plates and plastic silverware can drinks and the waitress was so rude she just throws the plastic ware at you , not friendly, she and one other person working there It’s so sad to have seen this once booming restaurant go down hill so bad Debbie Jones

Yelp
Door Dashed order today and as I was plating our lunch, I found a hair on the biggest piece of chicken. My sister called them and they gave her the Door Dash number. She called and they did refund our cost. This is still a Shun Lee issue for their kitchen staff to take better precaution to make sure this doesn't happen again. We've ordered, picked up and ate here for years.

Yelp
I don't what to say. We had dinner here tonight and I am so disappointed at how far this place has fallen. First the place was empty on a late Saturday afternoon. Not one customer. First we were given paper take out fliers for the menu. Then the soda now comes in a can. She brought out 3 styrofoam cups for the four of us. Then a robot thing brought out two meals on the three compartment divided styrofoam plates. Then she only brought out 3 wrapped plastic forks for the four of us. I had to ask for another fork so one of us didn't have to eat with our fingers. Then the other two meals came out. The food was fine, used to be better. The soy sauce and duck sauce were in the little take out packages. And last but not least, 3 fortune cookies for the four of us. We will never return.

Yelp
Yet again, 7 years later, I cannot give Shun Lee anything more than 1 star. I ordered pickup, Chicken Low Mein and Beef with Broccoli . Both were so disappointing I actually had to throw both dishes away immediately. The Chow Mein had no flavor and the noodles were so overcooked. As for the Beef with Broccoli, I don't even know what to say. The sauce was no a sauce, but a clumpy gelatin coating, see picture. I had hopes based a friends recommendation, but it wasn't a hit for me.

Yelp
We were shopping in Publix and one of the cashiers recommended this place. There were few people inside when we came in. We were greeted by an employee, who was smiling and very pleasant. We ordered to eat in. To our surprise we were served by computerized delivery robot. I have seen them on TV but never in real life. It was an amazing experience. Food was excellent!

Yelp
This has become our go to Chinese place for takeout and delivery. I've never sat there to eat but the restaurant itself looks pretty nice. The food is yummy and consistent. Big fan of the Chinese eggplant. Solid choice of a spot.
google avatar

Jay T.

Yelp
This was hands down the worst Chinese dish I have ever had. I can't believe they call this orange chicken. It was dry had no orange flavor and had zero sauce. I will never order from them again.

Faol L.

Yelp
Great food! I have been to Shun Lee for many years, through its incarnations. The food is better than it has ever been. It is not greasy or oily, and the portions are generous. Surviving the Pandemic, they are primarily a take out restaurant now, but you can sit down and eat there. It is kind of like a picnic. Everything is served in styrofoam plates and cups, plastic cutlery. It is a great, good fun lunch or dinner. Your server is Bella, a little android waitress! So the service was fun. Most of the original dining room is unused, though it kind of adds to the mystery of the fun. Best food they've ever had, great, fun service, big portions. What more could you want?

Yelp
Shun Lee Palace is an ok Chinese food restaurant. Everything was mud and nothing stood out as remarkable, which saddened me because I wanted to love the crab rangoon and the lo mein, but nope. In fact, the lo mein just tasted like oil. My friend told me I just needed to doctor it up a bit, but what?! I don't want to have to doctor up anything I paid for to make it something I want to eat. I'm glad I at least gave them a chance to learn for myself if this is a place I'd patronize. And you should too. Just don't have too many expectations. It's also to-go only as an FYI.
google avatar

Gregory B.

Yelp
Not quite sure why there are so many low ratings. The chicken fried rice was so good! Putting it into perspective, it is just chicken, rice, and veggies, but given the previous reviews I didn't think it would taste so good. I would give that dish five stars, but make sure to get the white shrimp sauce! The wonton soup was pretty good but the wontons themselves tasted a bit bland. That's the only reason I'm not giving 5/5. Will definitely be back!
google avatar

Yelp
I placed my order via the postmates app. This was my first time, and they did not disappoint. I'm glad I did not read the reviews first. I ordered pork fried rice & spareribs. It was so good, I went back for tomorrow's lunch chicken and broccoli. Keep up the good work.
google avatar

Melissa M.

Yelp
I'm no expert on Chinese food but I've always had a good meal. The dining room is finally open again
google avatar

Christopher C.

Yelp
Over cooked noodles, asked for extra spicy, absolutely 0 flavor. I should have known better to order Thai here, but did anyhow. Do yourself a favor go to your local grocer hot bar and get food that's 10x better. If you wanted mushy noodles with no flavor this is your spot. Gave the food to my dog. Not sure if he ate it.

Yelp
Shun Lee was our favorite Chinese restaurant in Charlotte when it was dine in, pre Covid. As we ordered takeout over the last few years, quality deteriorated to the point we will never order again. Recent Orange chicken was tiny, over fried, dried out chicken crumbs, with no orange flavor. Sesame Beef lacked flavor and was extremely tough. Crab Rangoon lacked flavor. We truly miss what Shun Lee used to be.
google avatar

Russ B.

Yelp
Food is always consistent and perfect. The broccoli is always correctly. Al dente, the egg rolls are always hot by the time they get to me and the crab Rangoon is perfect. Nice job guys!

Anna T.

Yelp
Have been going here since I was 2 years old and always loved the food. Not sure whats up with the bad ratings - the staff is always nice and friendly - quick to adjust an order if it's wrong. The ambiance is great inside, glad to know the dining room is reopened. Just ordered a meal for the family and none of us had any complains!
google avatar

Jenna L.

Yelp
Let's get this score up! I've loved in the area for 7 years and this is our go to Chinese place. They have all the staples and you get a bang for your buck! I always get 2 meals out of each entree. My go to dishes are egg drop soup, moo shu pork, general tsos, orange chicken, and sesame chicken. Tried the pork gyozas tonight and they are my favorite! Everyone is friendly, it's takeout only the last few years. But if you're looking for your standard to go Chinese place this won't disappoint! Is there room for improvement sure? Isn't there always? But for what you pay, what you get , and how it tastes...check it out!

Dana P.

Yelp
My orange beef tasted like it was cooked in old oil. The meat was dark and rubbery & I couldn't taste any orange at all. As a matter of fact, it had no flavor at all. And it looked like it was leftover from last night and just microwaved. My husband's garlic chicken was not garlicky & the chicken didn't look cooked. Worse takeout ever! We will never order from here again.
google avatar

James M.

Yelp
Ordered Pad tai through Uber eats and essentially all I got was noodles and some chicken without any sauce. Maybe they forgot to include the sauce? I used to love this place but I think its another restaurant that covid killed :(
google avatar

Ravenna M.

Yelp
Fresh Chinese food! Always a good meal My son and mom love the lo mein. Noodles aren't thick. They let you choose the type of dumplings. I like mine thick not the small skinny ones. If you're like me order the Shun Lee Dumplings. I usually get white rice with shrimp/dumplings and pork lo mein. Enjoy!

Freda H.

Yelp
Do Not Order from here. I ordered Pad Thai and got overcooked tasteless glass noodles. Asked for utensils and didn't receive any. Never again!

David H.

Yelp
They fucking left steel wool in my dish. What the fuck is this? I could have hurt my stomach. Like, what the actual fuck is this restaurant
google avatar

Wl G.

Yelp
Idk why this place has such a bad rating! We've ordered from here a handful of times, and everything has been surprisingly delicious! I was nervous given the low Yelp rating, but seriously give it a try

Yelp
Located in a strip mall, parking spaces are very small! Came for lunch on a Friday afternoon, no wait for a table or booth. They've updated the look of their menu, along with that came price increases for their plates. Service was good, absolutely no complaints there. The gentleman who was our server has been there for YEARS and is always pleasant. Our food came out within ten minutes of ordering. Food portions have decreased and the taste and flavor is no longer there. I've always CRAVED their Sesame Chicken because it was semi crispy and had a honey flavor it to. No longer the case. I Ordered Sesame Chicken, which came with fried rice and egg roll but it wasn't good. The sauce for the Sesame Chicken has been changed and I'm not a fan. The rice lacked flavor, was clumpy and portions of it weren't well mixed. The egg rolls have also decreased in size. Restrooms need updating. They are older, although clean the ladies room had the weirdest, foulest odor - perhaps a plumbing issue.

Yelp
I've been eating at Shun Lee for 30 years. It's switched ownership during this time and I still will drive from Indian Trail for pick up! The family that owns it is amazing and speak every time we come in. It's been only take out for a few years and I miss dining in but hands down best Chinese food in Charlotte for sure. Amazing and fresh! Try the orange chicken! Also, I'm not sure what sorcery they use to make the sweet tea but, YUM!!!

Corrin S.

Yelp
My husband and I normally love ordering from this place but after tonight we will never order from here ever again. I ordered the pork fried rice and while I was eating it I felt something hard in my mouth. At first I thought it could be a hard piece of rice but after feeling it more in my mouth I realized it was sharp. Turns out I was chewing on a rusted piece of metal. Kinda looks like a staple? No clue. Thank goodness I didn't swallow this thing.
google avatar

Katie B.

Yelp
Ordered hibachi steak, it was terrible! Husband called it kibble. We bed it to the animals. Weird seasoning I did not care for. Chopped into tiny pieces. Veggies had a weird seasoning. This place has gone downhill. It once was a Charlotte staple. I will not go back.

Anna Z.

Yelp
I have ordered several times at this store, and the Hibachi is my favorite, I like it very much, and the fried rice tastes delicious.
google avatar

Kimmy L.

Yelp
Who doesn't love having Chinese food on a Sunday night? Decided to try somewhere new and close to home and so glad I did! Was a little nervous since it had low reviews and ratings but glad I decided to give it a shot because everything was so good! Dinner prices were very reasonable and the portion sizes are huge! The photos I uploaded were after I already made a plate of food. I ordered the veggies w/garlic sauce, veggie fried rice, veggie lo mein, vegetable spring roll and crispy noodles. Honestly I couldn't even tell you which one I liked more. This will be my new Chinese takeout spot!

Yelp
Rating simply on how the restaurant handled a problem with my first order and my poor experience with Grubhub delivering the items. Unfortunately, I did not know that there are several ways to make the signature, Honey Walnut Shrimp. This isn't shrimp and grits like in New Orleans where you can "expect" the chef to put their own take on it. It's an Americanized made up Chinese dish with a honey kewpie mayo as the star sauce. Think Bang Bang shrimp but with a honey mayo. This restaurant credited me for the honey walnut shrimp after requesting I send a photo which I thought was very clever and creative after hearing how busy they were. 1st I called to inform them that Grubhub had dropped my order without a knock or a ring of not one but two doorbells. I was sitting inches from the door in my studio apartment and I don't know how this whispering angel dropped off a bag without a sound down the outside hall. So I called because after 2 hours I discovered my cold order waiting for me on my doorstep. They were first unable to do anything because they do not have anything to do with third party apps like Grubhub. As I had ordered through Yelp which places the restaurant in touch with a driver of Grubhub, I was screwed as far as calling and complaining or even modifying the tip. I called back because of the discovery that the only sauce on side for the walnut shrimp sans walnuts was a wannabe marinara based on ketchup and cornstarch. The rangoons that i heated up in the toaster oven and the sesame chicken and broccoli with steamed white rice were pretty good heated up in the microwave. The spring rolls again, I heated up in my toaster oven. Maybe if I had a fancy air fryer things would be better. Items came packaged well in the nicer Tupperware with the clear lid on top. I will give them another shot. The ultimate reason long story long, as to why I gave Shun Lee a 5 star was because the owner called back and had showed the photo I sent of the walnut shrimp to the chef and apologized once again but to say that they had actually forgotten the walnuts but that was their walnut shrimp recipe and that the mayo based sauce was the one I must have been thinking of on the coconut shrimp. Even if the walnuts were present on their take of the dish, I would still not order it, but this was why the manager called me back so that I would not be disappointed in the future and to perhaps pick a different dish. I found the shrimp to floury in taste without seasoning and did not want to make the sauce work. The shrimp was served over snap peas and zucchini which my little frenchie after I rinsed off the veg happily enjoyed with some of the rice with her evening meal. Shrimp was tossed and I do not waste food.

Yelp
Best service, kind employees and consistent delicious food for years!!!!!! Portions sizes are great and you can tell the food was made by someone who loves to cook.
google avatar

Ron L.

Yelp
Shun Lee is an absolute favorite "hands down"!!! Each entree is special, one of my favorites in Charlotte. Added, SLP provides brown rice as an option for no additional charge. Serving associates are always attentive, courteous and accommodating. An all time favorite!

Matt W.

Yelp
Absolutely no excuse for this establishment to still have their dining room closed. I will NOT give this restaurant my business anymore until they reopen the dining room.
google avatar

Star J.

Yelp
Friendly staff, all orders taken outside due to the virus. They were masks though. Didn't taste the food, and didn't really smell it either.

Edward W.

Yelp
Still not open to eat in . Shame on you . Open up !didn't you get cares act help. PPP help or other help . Next you will declare bankruptcy. You need to get to woke.

Jada R.

Yelp
The food was absolutely terrible. Very skimp with their portions and bland. Worst Chinese food I've had.

Jeannette T.

Yelp
I'm new to the area and was pleasantly surprised by Shin Lee Palace's menu. I hadn't had Mu Shu pork in quite some time because I hadn't found a good place. I was feeling adventurous and took a chance and was not disappointed. The portion was substantial, the flavors very good so I feel if they can get this right I'm sure to try more dishes the next visit!
google avatar

Danielle W.

Yelp
Visit date 12/12/17 It's been a while since I ate from Shun Lee Place, BUT I can say this, it's not the same. I made a carry out order. BIG MISTAKE I SHOULD HAVE CALLED IT IN FOR PICK UP! My order took 45 MINS!!!! Mind you I was in lunch break and only get an hour. So when I get my food it was cold!!! But how?? So In another words my food did not take 45 mins, you just had it sitting! I was disappointed with the service!!!!! The was taste BUT COLD. The was rice was hard and warm!!!! parking is bad also they must be doing something to the parking lot.
google avatar

Wes M.

Yelp
The soup was too salty and the lo mein was horrible. Very disappointing as usual. They should taste their own food.
google avatar

Haley H.

Yelp
Waste of money. Food was so bad it was inedible. Lime on the side was rotten. Even the vegetable spring roll was bad, how do you mess that up? Total waste. Don't go here if you want good food.
google avatar

Alice B.

Yelp
I was excited to try this Chinese restaurant because the menu and inside brought back old memories of great Chinese places I've been before. I love how QUIET it is in here . This visit I got a lunch special of shrimp and rice , the flavor was great, but the food did not come out as hot as I would have liked. I found myself getting full very quickly as well.

Scott D.

Yelp
WTH is going on with the lemon chicken? What part of the chicken are they using? Terrible texture. Reminded me of the chicken nuggets in frozen TV dinners. Just disgusting. Fool me ONCE
google avatar

Kristin A.

Yelp
Absolutely the worst excuse for Pad Thai I've ever tasted. Watery tasteless broth. I don't know how they can even call this pad Thai...it's more like a soup. Couldn't even eat it.
google avatar

Khemary S.

Yelp
Ehhh I hated that I cheated on my fav Chinese place but I was closest to this place. I should have opted out on a different place. I got the sa cha shrimp and it was so oily! The server that served me burped as she was finishing chewing on food when bringing my tea. Everyone likes their own Chinese places but I didn't like my visit here. I had to find someone to get my check and a to go box- even though I didn't like it. Maybe I might try again at a good lunch time and not after lunch rush.

Emma C.

Yelp
Normally Shun Lee is my go-to delivery spot when I crave Pad Thai. Their prices are good and normally so is the food and service. On Sunday evening, I ordered delivery through Door Dash and my miso soup was missing and my Pad Thai seemed like they forgot to put sauce on it. Just plain noodles, chicken, and vegetables. I've included a picture with that. If it was just one thing or the other, I would have given the benefit of the doubt but most of what I ordered was messed up. I also understand that's the risk you take when you order delivery.
google avatar

A S.

Yelp
I know sometimes Shun Lee Palace is a hit or miss with flavor!! I have experience this my self. But this time they were here. Point!! Went here for Christmas Eve to pick up our dinner ( family tradition my parents use todo). The restaurant is not open but pick up orders are still available. They have all the covid protocols in place a spot for clean and dirty pens, contactless payments and there is a Sheild up between you and the person taking payment. I also noticed that everyone I saw that was working in the restaurant was wearing mask too. We did order on online too which was very user friendly too. If you have a chance I sure hope you have just as fabulous of an experience as I had and the food turns out just as good as mine did.
google avatar

Trace S.

Yelp
Food was slow to come. Plates were bought out scattered. Asked for soft veggies but didn't get them.
google avatar

Fallon W.

Yelp
My go-to spot for delivery! The lemon chicken is always hot and crispy and I love the veggie lo mein. They have a great variety of items on their menu and everything is always correct for my orders.

Nerf R.

Yelp
Ordered some take out food to celebrate Chinese New Year. Have been to this restaurant before and it was good. However this time half of the order was bad. First and foremost part of the order was missing. Yes, should have checked the contents of the bag before leaving. Shame on me for that. The second part is that a staple of this restaurant is their vegetarian dishes. Ordered Bean Curd Family Style. Overall the dish was good. But the rice was stale and looked as though it had been boxed up for several days. And it put a feeling over the rest of the order that could not be overlooked! This is one of the first Yelp reviews I have written and it bothers me that it had to be a bad one. Shun Lee Palace has been around for years but I cannot honestly recommend this restaurant to others to check out and that really stinks.
