Sundaes Best, a Gelato Shop from the Owners of Baekjeong, Opens in Koreatown | Eater NY

"I followed the controversy around Shun Lee 98th Street, a Chinese restaurant on the Upper West Side that has changed its name to Dim Sum Bloom after being accused of masquerading as Shun Lee Palace, a Midtown establishment since 1971. Its owner, Sean Li, who worked as an account for the original Shun Lee, licensed the brand’s name for one year, which caused confusion and disappointment among fans; the restaurant announced on NextDoor, "We understand that there have been some concerns regarding our brand, which has caused inconvenience for everyone." - Luke Fortney

This place is absolutely incredible, my favorite Chinese in Manhattan. I come here with my best friend who is Chinese and we both enjoy it so much. The owner is so kind and the hospitality is incredible. I am obsessed with the XO shrimp and surprisingly they have incredible wine list too. Some special old amazing red wines

This restaurant, established in 1965, was recommended by a friend, so we decided to visit together. My friend shared fond childhood memories of dining here with their parents. It's a traditional dim sum restaurant, and each dish feels quite classic. On the positive side, it’s authentic; on the downside, it might feel a bit too old-fashioned. Still, it's nice to see a place preserving such a legacy.

Google
Fascinating place. Let me set the scene. My partner, on his way back from the restroom was thanked for his service and the good meal as well-meaning white patrons exited to their operas and orchestras. Simply because he was Asian. Be wary of the friend who suggests such a place. Tawdry is the quintessential word to describe the decor. And the food is middling. I don’t remember a single dish two days later. Minimal taste and flavor. And the prices. Yikes! You can get Michelin meals on a similar budget.

Went here for dinner recently. It’s an upscale Chinese food restaurant on the Upper West Side. It is very spacious and nicely decorated. There are many servers and they are all very attentive. The clientele is a lot of older people and families. We started off with soup dumplings and fried shrimp balls which were both delicious. We also got Chinese broccoli, crispy beef, General Tso’s chicken, walnut shrimp, fried rice and they brought another vegetable dish out to us. Everything was really good. Portions were a good size. Good for sharing. Definitely the type of place to go to on a special occasion with a group. Check it out.

Google
This restaurant needs to (and will) and in my opinion needs to go out of business. I’ve never been in such a huge restaurant and been the only one in it. Clearly, every one in all of NYC already had figured out this place was a complete joke and rip off. After ordering two main dishes (beef and chicken entrees) the food came out exactly 4 minutes after we ordered it. There was simply no way this could have been prepared to order. Food was tasteless and most of the chicken dish was peanuts. The entrees were $46 and $52 extremely expensive too. We seriously considered leaving immediately but I regretfully chose to stay to avoid wasting $150. I should have left and cut my losses. Do not under any circumstances eat at this restaurant.

Google
I have been a regular at this restaurant for an excess of 35+ years, and it has always been great, due to quality of food, good service, and outstanding location. Due to this, we know the menu very well, and never need an actual menu to order the dishes we are so used to ordering. The quality of the food has always been consistently good, forever. Tonight we had a table of 5, ordered our regular dishes, and the food was disastrous. I (for the 1st time ever), complained to the manager, mentioning that two orders of shredded beef was just batter, and seemed that there was no beef within in the dishes. He didn't seem to be concerned, still charged us for the two partially uneaten dishes, for which I paid, without a complaint, but I will not speak highly as I used to do about this restaurant, and will deffinately not return. A massive disappointment regarding the food and management, a big downgrade, and probably the reason why the restaurant was extremely empty at 7.15pm on a clear weathered Friday night. What a pity this is, especially for us being such long time regulars. But no loss, as there are many other exceptional restaurants in the close vicinity of Lincoln Center, where we are seasoned regulars.

The food is consistently fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The staff is friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere is warm and welcoming. The dumplings and Szechuan dishes are especially amazing. Highly recommend if you’re looking for authentic and satisfying Chinese cuisine!

Shun Lee West on the Upper West Side effortlessly evokes the charm of 1970s-80s fine Chinese dining. As you step inside, the refined ambiance, with its classic Chinese motifs, sets a serene and welcoming tone. The menu offers a delightful journey through American Chinese culinary traditions. Dishes like Chicken with Three Nuts, Chicken with Vegetables (Moo Goo Gai Pan), Hot and Sour Soup, and Wonton Soup are prepared with meticulous attention to detail, reminiscent of the first Chinese food my mother took me out to enjoy. The quality of ingredients and the chefs' skill shine through, making each meal memorable. These are not new fusion dishes but traditional American Chinese dishes. The old-fashioned service at Shun Lee West is impeccable. The attentive and courteous waitstaff provide a smooth and enjoyable dining experience. The restaurant maintains a peaceful atmosphere, allowing for relaxed conversation and a leisurely meal. Overall, Shun Lee West is a charming throwback to the golden age of fine Chinese dining in America. Its combination of classic dishes, impeccable service, and quiet elegance make it a true gem on the Upper West Side.

Yelp
A friend and I just had lunch at Shun Lee West. The quality of the food was very poor. To start we had spare ribs and scallion pancakes. The pancakes were overcooked and tasteless. The spare ribs were without flavour. Mains were heavenly fish and Grand Marnier prawns. The fish was tasteless and didn't have a very nice texture. The vegetables were nice, however. The prawns were at best okay. We didn't finish the prawns and neither of us wanted to take them home. My friend said she had been there some time ago and the food was good then.

Yelp
RAW MEAT IN SOUP DUMPLINGS I was excited to try the soup dumplings, but I found raw meat inside--totally unacceptable! The texture and taste were off-putting, and the staff didn't address my concerns or refund me. I can't recommend this place at all. Avoid it!

Yelp
The food is good but also twice the price of most places. The food ISN'T twice as good! Atmosphere is nice - but that's where it ends. The wait staff was sort of rude and stares at you while you eat, so yes they are very attentive. They refill your water after practically every sip. They brought the desert menu while some of us were still eating!

Yelp
I came with my friend after we saw the Barbie movie at the nearby AMC. I recommended this restaurant because I had been here plenty of times before with my grandparents. It was one of my grandpa's favorite restaurants in NYC. The restaurant was almost empty because we came at night, pretty late. We ordered scallion pancakes, shrimp dumplings, orange chicken, and a noodle dish. The food was really good, and it came in good time. The restaurant was beautiful and I loved the lighting. The seats were comfortable too, which added to the pleasant dining experience. My friend and I ended up not finishing it because they gave us so much food and neither of us could take it home, but we had a wonderful time and Shun Lee was the perfect place for us to reconnect and treat ourselves. I especially loved the sauce on the chicken and the flavor and texture of the noodles and dumplings. I believe the scallion pancakes could have been fluffier and not as crunchy, but they were still delicious. The restaurant is pricey, but I do believe that you get what you pay for and it's worth it.

Yelp
Shun Lee West and the Café have been favorite restaurants of mine for a couple of dozen years and I have gone to one or the other a couple of dozen times, but not since the pandemic. I even reviewed the place on 2018, something I rarely do. So when I read the recent reviews here I didn't believe it and went last night. The level was equivalent to a bargain Chinese take-out joint but the prices were many times higher. At the Café, not more rolling trays with dim sum, just a menu list. I had to go back to the entrance after 10 minutes to get a menu and get up to flag the waiter the waiter to get water. (The place was 1/4 empty.) The single $8 Shanghai egg roll was minuscule and tasteless, the scallion pancake bland; the $40 orange beef was nothing like the dish I'd often had here: the meat was stringy and the dish goopy and without much flavor. But the soup was good!

Les E.

Yelp
Always order for delivery and always tgrilled. The ordering app thru yelp works great and the menu extensive including a gluten free menu which I love and usually order from. Chicken and vegetable, shrimp and vegetable, rice with egg, bok choy and pea shoots. Also tofu dishes. If you like clean fresh lighter asian cuisine, I highly recommend!

Yelp
Years ago I saw the documentary "The Search for General Tso" and Shun Lee was one of the restaurants cited as having a good example of the dish. There is much to do made about what is "authentic" Chinese food and how Chinese take out in the United States is most certainly, NOT it. Perhaps since I was born and raised in the U.S. I don't take such a view. Instead, I see what we consider Chinese take-out as an evolution of cuisine from the Chinese mainland (and its surrounding areas) that has become its own entity over time. To that end, I have many favorites when it comes to take-out, and General Tso's Chicken is one of them. This made visiting Shun Lee a must. One Global Pandemic later, I was finally able to visit the West Side location of this restaurant to try out the acclaimed dish. I went a bit late on a weekday afternoon, so I was only one of about 10 customers in the place. The decor in this restaurant is definitely meant to grab your attention. There's a bit of "tourist trap" there with giant dragons lining the walls lit up, a giant dragon head at the entrance and a red and black color palette that really drives home an older Chinese restaurant aesthetic. Yet, nothing looks grungy or bad. Everything is very clean and tidy and the design of the dining room is very elegant, with an elevated section at the periphery and a sunken section in the middle. The staff was very polite with me. I also heard them talking extensively with other customers not just about the food, but also their day leading me to believe I was surrounded by regulars. Okay, what about the food? I ordered the General Tso's Chicken with rice. It was just me so this was MORE than enough food. You could easily feed two people with this dish. It comes with General Tso's Chicken in the center on a small bed of broccoli. Very traditional and it looks great. So, is this the best General Tso's Chicken ever? Well, no. It has great texture (crisp on the outside with a good chew on the inside). The chicken is still most under the crispy shell. The sauce is a nice mix of sweet and savory. The broccoli is nicely cooked and fresh. However, there's nothing particularly distinctive about the flavor. It is a good example of the dish, a solid B+ but it's not an "A". To get it there I would have liked a bit less sweetness and more leaning into the savory and spicy flavor profiles. However, if you lean towards sweet, then this dish will be very satisfying for you. I enjoyed my visit to Shun Lee and I would absolutely go back when I'm in the area again.

Yelp
This used to be my favorite restaurant. All of us nearby at ABC used to go regularly... While it was pricey, the food was great. Now it is so bad I am shocked. The food is almost inedible. The service has gone way downhill. There seems to be some new, uncaring ownership.... and they are destroying a great place.

Yelp
Whether I like a restaurant or not, I usually feel inspired to post a lengthy review about the place. But I disliked this restaurant so much -- from the rude, annoying service to the less than quality food (dare I say plastic tasting dim sum) -- that I want to be in and done with this as fast as I wanted to be done and out of that place. Suffice it to say, save the money and go to a hot dog vendor. Yes, it's that gross.

Yelp
Shun Lee West is the younger sibling of Shun Lee East. Founded in the 80's, it's right near Lincoln Center on The Upper West Side. It has a dimly lit decor that lights up with sculptural glowing dragons and monkeys which hang from the bar. As you enter, there is a red and black lacquer outer seating ring and a sunken dining space. It can get busier at dinner, but service is punctual. You can choose from a variety of Szechuan and non spicy food, duck, chicken, beef and pork with rice. A variety of oolong, green and black teas, alcoholic drinks, sake and herbal tonics. I ordered the spicy chicken with vegetables. Appetizers are mostly traditional Chinese -American and they have a sizzling rice soup, hot and sour or wonton soup. Desserts are a mixture of Asian and sweets such as; crème brûlée, chocolate lava cake, black and white mousse, lychees and ice cream.

Suzann D.

Yelp
Top notch all the way -the restaurant is beautiful, the food is authentic. Great bar. It is one of the 2 Chinese restaurants I dine in when in NYC.

Yelp
I am a Black man who visited Shun Lee in Lincoln Center on December 30, 2023 at 3pm. The atmosphere was unwelcoming. I was seated for five minutes in a vast space that was empty except for all of four diners. The Asian waiter made eye contact with me but did not approach me with a menu or anything else in the five minutes I was seated. Again, the restaurant was not busy at all. About 20 tables were empty (see attached photo.) Only two or three tables were occupied by diners. About three minutes later a white couple and their child walk in. They had not even finished sitting down at their table before the very same waiter who ignored me went over to them with menus and water. Immediately upon seeing this I got up and left the restaurant. I made it clear to the woman who seated me that racism was bad for Shun Lee's business. Her apology--especially since when she seated me initially she was hostile, mildly upset at why I didn't make a reservation at THREE PM for a virtually empty restaurant--rang hollow. If you are an anti-racist, please do not dine at Shun Lee West or their sister restaurant on the East side in NYC. There are many other restaurants in New York City more deserving of your patronage, including Sylvia's Soul Food Restaurant in Harlem, whose service is much better and friendlier.

Isaac S.

Yelp
A cockroach fell from the ceiling into my food as I was eating, and they refused to comp me. Food was gross and made me sick. DO NOT EAT HERE!!!!

Peter A.

Yelp
It's not the same as the previous visit. We went shortly after the opening, and it was a delightful experience. We were excited to enjoy the restaurant again for a birthday dinner. Today's visit was quite disappointing. The food was simply bad. The spare ribs were burned to a crisp. The young chow fried rice was tepid to cold. We ordered orange beef and asked that they hold the green pepper. It arrived with it and had to be sent back. When served again, it was also charred and tough. The shredded chicken hardly had chicken. The lychee martini was poorly prepared, so a second cocktail was switched to an easy-to-make gin and tonic. The dinner was not worth the $280.00 for two people.

Marilyn W.

Yelp
Food is delicious. Great for groups and for sharing. Very competent staff. Always an enjoyable experiencr

Yelp
Dined in the Cafe on December 20th. This used to be our go to spot when visiting Lincoln Center. Food & Service have gone downhill. They don't do dim sum anymore. Multiple diners were asking about this. Like most places prices have increased but here both the food and service have declined. Several items on the current menu were not available. Prices for most entrees are in the $30 range. I asked about substituting fried rice for white rice with my entree assuming there would be an upcharge. Was told no this was not an option. I would have to order the side portion of fried rice at an additional $25. Service was lacking and unfriendly. We had to ask for water & soy sauce which we finally got mid meal. Food arrived lukewarm and got cold pretty fast. The location is perfect and convenient but in my opinion not worth the visit anymore.

Jake S.

Yelp
SO RUN DOWN. carpet and bathroom filthy Duct tape on booths yet they charge $50 an entree On the upside the waitstaff is delightful

Adam K.

Yelp
Having dined at Shun Lee a number of times over the years, I am stunned and disappointed at what it has become. After a disappointing visit soon after their post-COVID reopening - outrageously expensive prices and disappointing food - I decided to give it another try. Sadly, it has gotten worse. The food was more disappointing. The prices still ridiculously high. And the virtual emptiness of the restaurant - despite a Lincoln Center matinee taking place - was notable. I hope they can restore to their pre-pandemic levels of quality and popularity. But until I read that they have, I will search for alternatives to satisfy my Chinese food cravings.

James K.

Yelp
Not sure what the deal is with some of the negative reviews. Food and service were fantastic and the drinks were tasty too. Been there 10 times and we'll be back.

Joyce J.

Yelp
DON'T EAT HERE! The people at the table next to us left after before ordering after they saw two fat and large rats in the dining room. Disgusting. None of the waiters cared about the rats. They just got upset and angry at the customers who quietly left after seeing the rodents. Unfortunately we already ate. The food is not good but must make the rats happy
google avatar

Yelp
I can't imagine returning. Overpriced. Odd and jarring decor. Everything was bland and unremarkable. Everything LOOKS good when it is presented, but when you take a bite, your mouth senses an absence of anything that might make you want a second bite. I take it Shun Lee was, in years past, a great place. Now, well, it's more Sarah Lee. I suspect this is one of those restaurants that endures just because of its location.

Yelp
Long long long time customer and was just treated terribly for a pick up order. Placed a large order for Christmas dinner. Called it in spoke to a real person. Confirmed pick up would be an hour. Waited the hour and walked over. Greeted by two giggling twitty women who rudely dismissed me with a wave of the arm when I inquired where to pick up. My 1st time picking up. Waited politely to speak with the counter person among the thirty other people. Was asked if I would be ok waiting another 1.5hrs. Every person there was told a timeframe and then asked to wait an hour more. Really terrible service by Shun Lee. Just shameful. Messing up Christmas dinner for so many people. If you're too busy don't take the order. If I'm not important as a customer perhaps I'll go somewhere else. Maybe Legend 72. Or Redfarm.

Ofir D.

Yelp
Used to order from here so often. Was one of the best spots in the city! Now, terrible quality food, really went downhill in the past couple of years. Now it's definitely not worth the money.
google avatar

Bruce W.

Yelp
The equation of price / service & food quality = Go someplace else. Food quality average at best for NYC Price very high for NYC Service is disjointed / clumsy For $160 for 4 of us we felt like out of town rubes that had just been scammed and we live here! Ouch. Will not make the same mistake again.

Norbert S.

Yelp
Absolutely dreadful. Had eaten fairly often at this restaurant in the '80's and '90's, and loved it. This time I took friends visiting from Germany, my first visit in over 20 years, and I was embarrassed by the smelly reception area and the third rate, over-priced lunch fare. Sad experience.

Monica B.

Yelp
Someone recommended this place, but we regret going. My cousin has Celiac and ordered what she thought was gluten free soup, as was on menu and "confirmed" by waiter. It was not gluten free and we were told the menu was mistaken- why has this not changed. This is very dangerous and totally irresponsible, my cousin could've become very ill. As we were preparing to leave, after paying, a giant cockroach landed in my hair from the ceiling. I alerted the waiter, so he casually killed it, no apology or offer of anything. I had not quite finished my $18 glass of wine. Needless to say, it was a terrible experience. The food was ok and overpriced, but all else made this experience really negative. I could not stop thinking about bugs in my hair all night. Disgusting.

Yelp
Went to the Met for an afternoon performance yesterday. Opera was going to end at 6 so Shun Lee seemed like a good place to just stop in and get a quick meal. Big Mistake! Not at all what it used to be. Cold dim sum, limited selection, pan-fried noodles were tasty but unremarkable in a miniscule portion (c'mon, guys $28!) Faded glory at its most apparent Pass.
google avatar

Yelp
This windowless room is enlivened by a remarkable fabric dragon that encircles the ceiling. Shun Lee is popular in an area that needs more options. Ask for a booth even if you are only two since the table arrangement is awkward. Service is chaotic and harried. Food is exceptionally bland.
google avatar

Jonathan R.

Yelp
Older restaurant. Nice staff. Food fair. Service so so. Nice front staff. A reservation is a must. Big menu. Din sun. Fried rice. Soups. Typical chinese.

Sohil M.

Yelp
Terrible experience at Shun Lee West. I used to love this restaurant for their vegetarian options, great service, and overall tasty food. My fiancé and I went yesterday and we were both absolutely shocked with how poor quality their food had become. They have removed most vegetarian options from their menu and that didn't reflect on their website or any online menus when I checked recently. The service was awful, so many waiters and no one to patiently take our order or answer us when we asked what happened to all the vegetarian options. One of the waiters seemed to be in a hurry and hit our table and spilled water all over our plates and table. He looked back and didn't even bother offering to help clean-up. He just continued on. The vegetarian items(scallion pancakes, veggie dumplings, and veggie spring roll) that did come were deeply fried and/or lacked flavor. This included the condiments. Do not recommend this restaurant to any vegetarian or anyone that doesn't appreciate poor service.
google avatar

Paul G.

Yelp
This windowless room is enlivened by a remarkable fabric dragon that encircles the ceiling. Despite its steeply ovepriced menu, Shun Lee is very popular thanks to its location in an area (Lincoln Center) that needs more options. At minimum ask for a booth even if you are only two since the table arrangement is awkward. While polite and cheerful, service is chaotic and harried--not the fault of the servers but a result of too small a staff. There are few amenities--no tea or even a bottle of soy sauce. And with the expceptionally bland food served in appetizer portions, a few extra would go a long way.
google avatar

Adele L.

Yelp
Nice place around Lincoln Center! Good for parties and gatherings. The main courses are nice, I wouldn't recommend the dim sum though.

Yelp
My wife and I have eaten at Shun Lee numerous times in the past. Tonight, we went for my birthday. I will start with a positive and say that we thought the food was very good, but almost everything else was not. To start, it was a hot, humid evening and the air conditioning was not working. You would think that the hostess would let you know that when you checked in, but that did not happen. Or even better, they could have called us before we came to let us know. In any case, once we were seated, we decided to stay. Mistake. We immediately ordered tea and realized with the first sip, that it was not the flavor of tea we ordered. I picked up my menu and felt something a little slimmy. I looked down and saw a piece of food stuck to the front of the menu. I then asked three times for another menu before getting one. Finally, the waiter came to our table, looked at us and said "yeah?" (This happened to me once before, at a diner in New Jersey- but that was a diner in New Jersey!!) When I did not respond (as a form of protest) he asked if we were ready to order. I will end with this. We ate our dinner in a very unpleasant hot and humid atmosphere. Waited far too long for our check, and left a smaller than usual, but appropriate tip.

Nicolas S.

Yelp
Superb. Loved it. Just fab and nice vibe. Amazing staff. Pricing a little high but overall amazing experience
google avatar

Robert H.

Yelp
On the plus side staff were very pleasant and attentive, the food very good, and it was very quiet, but it was just too expensive. A Chinese beer ($12!), boiled dumplings, Chilean Sea Bass (actually Flounder), a Seafood Mix, and one ice cream desert came to $122 for a party of two. So we would not say that the restaurant is especially good value. The Seafood Mix was especially good.

John G.

Yelp
Ordered take out ( fried rice and soup) this weekend. The order was packaged perfectly and the food was first class. Ingredients were fresh and flavors were amazing. Definitely worth the price. Service was efficient and pleasant.

Yelp
Just had dinner here. I keep wanting to give it a chance given that it's a "nyc landmark", a neighborhood fixture. After a holiday concert at Lincoln Center, wanted to grab a bite. Service was at best mediocre. Scallion pancakes were cold, soup dumplings were so-so... our order was simple, the place wasn't even that crowded and we waited forever. I've come to the conclusion that this place is overpriced and overrated. If not for its convenient location, it wouldn't have lasted as long as it has. Sorry, Shun Lee, you can do better.

Yelp
OpenTable menu and prices 1/2 of in the restaurant. Many items like 1/2 Peking duck not available Restaurant takes no responsibility despite being an open table client. Scam.

Yelp
Arrived on time for dinner res for two having requested a booth. The front desk reservationist doubling as a maitre d, walked us past an empty booth telling us there were no booths. When I pointed it out the person told me I needed to wait for that table to be cleared and set up. Ordered drinks and waited at the bar, checking in periodically to no avail. Waited forty five minutes at the bar and the table still wasn't ready. I paid the bar bill and left. It was customer relations that wouldnt be acceptable at a takeout joint in the boondocks.

John C.

Yelp
Have not been here in over 1 year We were going to be in the neighborhood so we decided to stop in for dinner Started with a cosmo and a martini both well made. Then some soup wonton and sizzling rice also done right Then some main courses beef and asparagus and schezwan lobster both excellent choices the lobster was tender and easy to enjoy We intend to make this one we come more often

Kristine L.

Yelp
I came to Shun Lee after I tried to get a table for 2 at every other restaurant around Lincoln Center on a random Tuesday night. Everywhere had an hour wait but Shun Lee was completely empty. I can see why. While the wait staff was incredibly nice, the food is average and the portions are small. For a few appetizers and fried rice, we spent over $100! For the price, I would recommend going elsewhere.

Yelp
Tradition is everything when it comes to food. Now I am all for evolution, change, and new cuisines. However, there is something comforting, and timeless about a legendary restaurant that does not change. Now the prices at this West Side Asian favorite do not make me happy, but their hot and sour soup, har gao with Chinese hot mustard, and ma po tofu with oolong tea will always make me smile. I do see some life on the Upper West Side of Manhattan and am hoping great traditional restaurants like Shun Lee West that brought General Tso's chicken to the world will lead the way. I look forward to my next visit which will feature their General Tso's chicken. I had the Ma Po Tofu at this visit--a little sweet with black bean--not the more recent hotter Szechuan version which I love. However, on this trip I wanted the old school version. The hot and sour soup is not the best, but it is of very high quality. Thank you Shun Lee West and I will be back in the Lunar Year of the Tiger!

Have been going to this Chinese restaurant for a long time. You may remember it from a scene in Wall St 2: Money Never Sleeps. The decor is really beautiful with gold dragons and monkeys and a red backdrop. Service is friendly. The dishes are all great and served hot. They do have soup dumplings and some other great choices for both veg and non veg. We had the tasting menu and the amount of food was insane! Enjoy!

Yelp
While the wait staff here was very kind and attentive, this was the only saving grace at Shun Lee West. The quality of the food was atrocious, and the prices were 3-4 times what they should have been given the taste and the portion sizes. We ordered several entrees and side dishes to share, and everything was small and lukewarm. I came here for a special occasion, but the night was entirely thrown off by our dining experience. There are infinitely better Chinese restaurants on the Upper West Side. I suggest that you pass on Shun Lee.

Yelp
This restaurant is living on borrowed time. It used to be worth spending a few extra dollars for the quality but it is now officially over the top. Everyone says, oh it's inflation but $26 for a side of greens thats an appetizer size portion and then on top of it they charge for tea now???? What Chinese restaurant does that and tea thats not brewed but a pot of water with two tea bags of ordinary quality... And not that we had it but Peking Duck for $120? R U kidding me? Next time I want really good Chinese, I'll go to Szechuan Garden on 105th and Broadway... way better quality, authentic and a total bargain in comparison... the last meal I will ever eat there... and might I add, lousy inattentive service that needs to be trained better... And, they dont even offer a fortune cookie!

Yelp
Worst service i had in years, not gonna come back!!! Appetizers and drinks were fast but main dish took more than 20 mins and waiters did not even apologize for the delay. My spicy Szechuan chicken was very salty!!! The location and size of the restaurant are great but waiters need to do intensive training in hospitality!!!

Yelp
Shun Lee tried to fraudulently hide their 2.5 star rating by changing their account to "Fusha Asian Cuisine." See my attached screenshot below! "Fusha Asian Cuisine" even lists Shun Lee's website, menu, and phone number! Shun Lee was once the gold standard of Chinese food. Instead of Shun Lee cleaning up their act to fix their disgusting expensive food and rude offensive service, they think they can lie by opening a new account. Shun Lee: I'm reporting your despicable lying and dishonest activity to Yelp! See my review that I posted in Dec 2018 that they tried to hide by transferring it to Fusha Asian Cuisine: Shun Lee banned me last night after a 20 year love affair. Late afternoon on Tuesday, I was on the UWS running an errand 3 blocks from Shun Lee. I lived in the neighborhood since 1998, but am now in Soho. I thought I would pick up Shun Lee while I was in the neighborhood, so I popped in and ordered a quart of wonton soup, Hunan Country Chicken, and fried rice which was $58 for take out! I specifically asked for extra sauce for the Hunan Country Chicken. When I arrived all the way back downtown in Soho, I opened my chicken. Not only was there not extra sauce, they made it with zero sauce! I called them to tell them it was dry as a bone and they said they would give me a store credit for the chicken. I tried to eat the wanton soup, but it had shrimp floating in it that was not de-vained, so shrimp sh!t was floating in my soup. And their version of $16 fried rice is white rice with raw onion and some vegetables. It is not fried at all. It was white. They ruined my dinner. I was unable to eat anything. By the time I arrived home that night it was late and I didn't have anything in the house to eat for dinner. I am the opposite of cheap, but paying $58 to have to eat microwave popcorn for dinner really bugged me all week. I was up by Shun Lee again yesterday and I took the soup, chicken, and rice in to return it because it's BS to pay $60 for shrimp sh!t, dry chicken, and white rice. They wanted to give me a store credit again, but I told them I'm wanted a refund. The lady who knows me from my 20 years of ordering from them told me, "Never call again!" I'm am now banned from Shun Lee because they f'd up my order and serve shrimp sh!t, and I refused to pay $60 for filthy inedible food! Shun Lee used to be the BEST! The Gold Standard. I'm so sad they haver zero respect for their customers whom are happy to pay top dollar for top quality and they have let their once outstanding food and service hit rock bottom. I'm going to miss you Hunan Country Chicken of yesteryear. :(
