Shun Ramen & Sushi

Phenomenal food here! The dishes were amazing in flavor and quality of ingredients. My wife and I have been on the hunt for good ramen and we drove 40min to try this place and both of us agreed we would drive an hour happily to eat here. Only thing that we would recommend is maybe 1-2 additional wait staff during the dinner rush as we did have to wait a while to place an order. Aside from that 5 stars all around!

I haven’t had ramen this good in a long time—it’s truly hard to find an authentic ramen spot like this. The sushi was also excellent and very fresh. The owners are incredibly kind and they make sure your food is exactly the way you like it. I’ve been here several times with friends and family, and we always leave full and happy. Highly recommend giving this place a try!

Loved the nigiri—it was delicious and really flavorful. The spam musubi tasted just as good as the ones we had in Hawaii, which was a great surprise. The only downside was that the restroom was out of soap during our visit, but overall we really enjoyed the meal.

Shun continues to be one of the best spots in town for ramen and sushi—hands down. The flavors are bold, fresh, and comforting in all the right ways. If you go, you must try the Salmon Skin Salad…absolutely delicious and easily one of my new favorites. A quick heads-up though: the service is sloooow. Like, “you’ll finish scrolling the entire internet before your entrée arrives” slow. But honestly? The food delivers every single time, and it’s worth the wait. If you’re not in a rush and want some of the best Japanese food around, Shun should be on your list.

Tonkotsu has an intense pork flavor and creaminess to the broth. Noodles have a good bite to them and an overall pleasant mouthfeel. Very generous with the Charsui. Staff and location are very down to earth. Milk tea was good, the mango crepe cake was good too. You won’t regret making it your go to ramen spot.

This was the best ramen I have ever had. The vegan tantanmen was absolutely delicious. I had never seen a vegan tantanmen before either and I have been vegan for almost 10 years now. 10/10 highly recommend. Very rich, flavourful, and filling.

Man oh man, this is one heck of a ramen restaurant! Let’s just come out and say it…this was the best bowl of ramen I’ve ever eaten! Wow. I was in the mood for a clearer type of broth so i went with the chicken broth Shoyu bowl with extra green onions. Just a tremendous bowl. The broth had those jewels of fat glistening on the surface, always a great sign. The noodles were thin and slightly chewy, just perfect. And i upgraded to the smoked charsiu for $2…This is a must-add, it was amazing. One of the operators/hosts of the restaurant spoke with me about the restaurant, very friendly person, and spoke about how this restaurant was a passion project for him and his friends and it really shows. We even talked about my favorite ramen movie, Tampopo from 1985. A+ all the way around! Ps - For those new to Ramen, here’s how to eat it: First, observe the whole bowl. Appreciate the overall pattern, savor the aromas. Admire the jewels of fat glittering on the surface, the bamboo shoots shining, the yolk of the egg, and the spring onions floating. Then caress the surface of the liquid with just the tips of your chopsticks…this shows affection to the broth and expresses admiration to the chef. At this point, concentrate on the pork slices, they play the key role. Gently poke the pork with your chopsticks. Caress it with the chopstick tips. Slowly dip it further in the broth. When you bring a piece to your mouth, give the pork the respect it deserves…do it gently and savor it. Now you can enjoy the rest of the bowl. Also make sure you finish the broth if you can, this is a great sign of respect to the chef in Japanese culture.

Ramen is Phenomenal…. Sushi is good too. Love their durian crepe cakes. Is yummy 😋… will come back to try more stuffs in future. 😉

We came at 5:00 on a Saturday, it was pretty busy but for good reason! We got the tonkatsu and the creamy vegan ramens. They were both delicious. I loved the broth.

My sister put me on this place because she swears that it's the best ramen in the metro detroit area and I agree! We all ordered the spicy tonkatsu and it was so rich and flavorful. I can tolerate a lot of spice so I added more! The noodles were fresh, so bouncy and light. I absolutely loved the egg and know to ordered another one next time. Not to mention the pork was so tender! I was stuffed so I took the rest for leftovers and it was just as good reheated. The service was friendly too so I will definitely be back.

I visited this past Thursday evening with four family members, and to our surprise, the place was packed despite its small size. There aren't many tables--just a few high-tops seating 7-8, some bar seating, and a regular table for 4. With a couple of parties ahead of us, we were fortunate to only wait about 15 minutes to be seated. TONKOTSU RAMEN - 16 The ramen barely filled up half the bowl. Since the broth wasn't too hot, I wolfed down the whole thing in less than 5 minutes. As for the toppings, it was a bit sparse -- just some pork char siu (to be fair, there were quite a few pieces), a sprinkle of chopped scallions, and half a ramen egg (which was nothing special). The broth was extremely creamy, flavorful and rich. I could definitely taste the lard used to achieve this velvety texture. In terms of taste, it's the best ramen broth I've had in the area. The ramen noodles were the straight noodles, which I prefer. While the flavors were bold and explosive, the amount of lard in the broth felt over the top and could have been dialed back immensely. My cousin got the TANTANMEN, which came with a spicy, sesame broth that was delicious and very rich. My uncle really enjoyed the SHOYU RAMEN, with a chicken based broth, and he enjoyed it so much that he left zero drops behind. Overall, Shun Ramen has no frills, with a vibe that feels like a Chinese restaurant converted into a ramen shop. The ramen here is quite tasty, but I would not recommend it for the health-conscious.

Taste: 7/10 The ramen was solid--enjoyable but not particularly memorable. It's comparable to other ramen shops I've visited, with flavors that hit the standard notes but didn't stand out as anything extraordinary. A good choice if you're craving a classic bowl but not necessarily something I'd go out of my way for. Service: 8.5/10 The service here was a highlight. An older gentleman, possibly the owner, gave off such wholesome and genuine vibes, showing real appreciation for every customer who walked through the door. It was refreshing and made the experience feel special. While I reserve 10/10 scores for Michelin-level service, this place definitely exceeded expectations and deserves recognition for its hospitality. The way he thanked everyone in the shop and people coming in was so wholesome. Ambiance: 7/10 Classic ramen shop vibes--a small, cozy establishment that feels straightforward and authentic. There's nothing particularly unique about the decor, but it provides the warm and casual atmosphere you'd expect from a neighborhood ramen spot. Value: 7/10 The prices are reasonable for the quality and portion size, at least for the ramen I tried. It's a fair deal for a satisfying meal. While I didn't explore much of the menu, I'd be open to returning to try more and see if any dishes stand out.

Perfection. From the taste to customer service. Broth is so rich, balanced and flavorful. Everything is cooked just right. I'd visit this ramen place more often than Johnny noodle king in Detroit. The dining vibe feels like you're in a tiny ramen shop where you sit next to the sushi chef and kitchen.

The broth was flavorful, it was hard to stop eating although we were full. The service was excellent! The man making the sushi rushed around and filled our waters. The ambiance was simple, the restaurant was clean. We all would definitely come back to eat here. 4 ramen bowls, 2 apps and 2 sushi rolls totaled $107 before tip. Everyone was stuffed and satisfied.

THIS RAMEN IS FANTASTIC! Believe the hype. Service was fast. The food came in no time so perfect for quick eats. The ambiance is very quaint and small so you might be sitting with people you don't know but I love that.

Been here at least twice now and it's a OK ramen spot. I love that it's a father son operation but some of the family-operated charm means there's a hole-in-the-wall vibe and lack of polish you'd expect from a true restaurant. I will say the flavors here are solid and taste authentic. We've had the shoyu, tonkotsu, and spicy tonkotsu and the broth is always flavorful. The noodles are probably sun-brand premade ramen noodles which are fairly standard ramen noodles and they cook them to the right doneness. My main gripe here is that the default toppings are bare-bones and sometimes the chashu pork comes out dry like it was over-cooked (see pic below). Other ramen places i've been to include bamboo shoots, nori, mushrooms, uzumaki slices, etc which makes a plain bowl here looks pretty sad. I think you'll enjoy a quick bite here especially as a lunch or something but I wouldn't come here expect it to be the ramen haven of the midwest. The restaurant, service, and ingredients are far from five star quality although they're not bad by any means. I would recommend giving this place a try but with the appropriate expectations.

Very good. I try and get here often to satisfy my Ramen craving. Always good! Very unassuming place with great hospitality from the owner.

My husband and I came here over the weekend and absolutely love this place!! We ordered the spam masubi and the Tonkotsu ramen. When tell you this place just feels like home and you can taste the love in the food. It's a tiny restaurant with maybe 20 seats overall. The staff is basically family and you're sitting likely with other people cafeteria style. The food came out so fast and is such a good deal! The spam masubi was a huge hit, the spam was HUGE! Definitely didn't skimp out on that one. The tonkotsu was definitely the star of the night, it's soooo creamy and flavorful. 10/10 I would 100% some back here. If you want some good comfort food and supporting a small business absolutely come here, you will not be disappointed

Excellent ramen place! Very authentic! Flavor is unique. Good ramen texture. Soups is umami and not too salty! Egg is beautifully cooked! Overall would recommend!

What a cute little shop! High tables with metal chairs for seating, lots of ambient light. Came in for a quick lunch and the speed with which food came out was fantastic. Staff was friendly, efficient and kind. We ordered Spicy Tonkotsu and a plain Tonkotsu, a Detroit roll and two ginger salads. Salads came first, and sushi roll very quickly after. Salad was exactly what you would expect, iceberg lettuce and ginger dressing, fresh and well sized. The Detroit roll was really delicious, the shrimp on the roll was very fresh and flavorful, and a good size. The Ramen was delicious! Great flavor on the pork broth on both bowls, and egg in the dish was perfectly cooked! Definitely had leftovers but kept going back for a spin of broth anyway! Beverages were on display in a cooler, mostly ramune, canned coffee, tea and pocari sweat. They did have the glass bottle Coke and cans of Diet Coke as well. Water was served with the meal, was cold with no ice. This place is a treasure! Will stop by when I'm back in town!

I would say 3.5 stars. Plenty of sushi for the price. Ramen was a bit too creamy for my liking and I added chilli oil to make it taste better. the food overall was good but not oozing with flavours. The presentation of the food was excellent, the service was great. They were fast. The place is clean with plenty of seats. I did think that the stools seats were small.

A group of 9 came in for a late lunch and were easily accommodated. The restaurant is in a strip mall and has several long tables with high top chairs. Menus include sushi, ramen as well as other offerings. We chose the restaurant because of the variety as not everyone in our group loves sushi. All the sushi we had was excellent. We also enjoyed the tempura shrimp and spring rolls. Prices were very reasonable for the quality of the food. The wait staff was also wonderful.

Shun has been highly recommended to me as an excellent Ramen spot for awhile, and I finally stopped in for carry-out today. I ordered the Tonkotsu Ramen (pork belly, pork bone broth, egg, scallions). I'd usually order chicken but wanted the full recommended experience. Pork was tender and the broth was soul-warming. Flavor 10/10. I also ordered the Shrimp Tempura Roll and Philadelphia Roll. Both drizzled in eel sauce or a sweet sauce which wasn't mentioned on the menu. I'd request them without the sauce next time. The Shrimp Tempura Roll tasted like fried chicken to me which was interesting but good. My only complaint, other than the sweet sauce on the sushi rolls, was the wait. Chef alerted the host that our carry-out order had been sitting in the kitchen. She was apologetic as they were busy, but we had to warm up the broth at home. Overall, the food was great, kind staff, and a cute spot if you'd like to dine in.

I had such high hopes for this place, and felt that it could've been so much better. I've heard a few good things and decided to stop in today to check it out. Walking in, the place was smaller than I'd anticipated. I was aggressively greeted by a nice man who was more than happy to help me. He seated me by the window since it was just me, offered me a drink and handed me a menu. The front is their Ramen dishes, and the back is sushi. I was here for the Ramen, so I didn't even check out the back part since I didn't want the sushi. Prices were all around the $18 mark and most had pork broth. I don't do pork, which is fine, so that left me one or two beef broth dishes and maybe a vegetarian one as well. I did add an egg to the beef broth one which came with meat, bok choy, lots of noodles and some other seasonings as well. Mind you, I don't consider myself a Ramen guru, but have had enough to know what I like. I found the broth here to be on the saltier end, which I didn't love especially towards the end of the dish. The beef tasted a bit over cooked and more "well done" with a chewy texture to it. Maybe it was over cooked? I don't know, I can't say for sure. Noodles were okay, but on the more difficult end to break apart when eating, so I was constantly having to use my chopsticks to break them up. Were they good? yes. This place isn't a bust, I just expected more especially from the price point. Good Ramen isn't cheap, and I've had better for the same price with a lot less salty taste to it. Not the best ramen out there, thus, this will never be more than 3 stars. Price point aside, there's TONS of other places (IMA down the street, HINT HINT) that will give to MUCH better Raman at about the same price in a much more aesthetically pleasing environment. I should've gone to IMA but was wanted to like this place SO BADLY. Sorry kids, won't be back.

So happy to have found this restaurant. The service and food is great. Had the ramen , sushi and other dishes and every single dish was delicious. Within a week I have ate there 4 times.

I had high hopes for this place. The menu had items that seemed flavorful. But, immediately upon walking in the lack of organization and upkeep of the front of house in the restaurant was not great. It made me question food safety with the way food was laid out. They also had a grocery store reach in bin without a lid in the front of the restaurant that looked like personal food items of the employees were stored. Very bizarre. I did order the vegan ramen and was not impressed. The noodles were undercooked and not high quality. I will not be returning.

Have heard nothing but rave reviews of this father + son run ramen shop and boy did they deliver in helping to fight off the Sunday scaries! Unlike other reviews, I found the portions here large (we left stuffed and could not finish all our food). For my tonkotsu, it was a hefty serving of noodles and pork compared to any other ramen place I've been to. While the toppings are minimal (egg + green onion), I really didn't feel I was missing the extras you may get at other places. It was simple and minimal and honestly does not require more. The broth is divine on its own and I would happily drink it by itself as it is so flavorful. My friend and I also tried the karaage chicken and the Detroit roll - both also good and didn't miss. Service was quick and attentive. For a small shop, they were truly efficient and had great customer service. A must try! We will be back.

Holy effin' price gouge! $100.00+ for three ramen bowls, two sushi rolls, seaweed salad and a whopping six gyoza on a plate, all while seated in the tiniest dining area ever! My kids love ramen. Love. It. Even they said it was just, "okay". My partner's spicy ramen was Tonkatsu with chili sauce piled in the center. That was it. Nothing else was in the broth. I opted for sushi and one specialty roll was $15.00; every 'specialty' roll is $15.00... A 'regular' roll - which was a Philly roll in this case, was $9.00!!!! And water folks. Water to drink. The staff were super friendly and the place was pretty clean, but again, not enough seats. We're not returning and you should probably just turn around and walk out...

After reading reviews, I was excited to try this place spicy tonkotsu ramen is my favorite and I wanted to try somewhere new since I had already had both Ima and Shiromaru this week. Nope. Nope. Nope. The broth was super salty without the depth of flavor that I expect from tonkotsu. It just tasted like salt and green onion. The smoked charsiu tasted old. The noodles did not taste fresh. The egg was OK. I'm actually really bummed that we came here.

Heard from friends that this place was good and it did not disappoint. I do agree with some of the other posts that the interior could use some sprucing up and maybe better organizing but the food made up for that. We had the Spicy Tonkotsu with Smoked Charsiu & Taiwanese Style Beef. Both had great depth of flavor from their broth although I think I liked the Taiwanese just a smidge more. The noodles were very good, I believe they were from scratch and better than some other ramen I have had. Also really liked the wooden soup spoons, that were a nice touch from the traditional spoons you usually get. The service was great, they were very attentive and the ramen came out quick. I also got the curry to go which I think was my least favorite of the 3. It was on a blander side than other curry dishes I have had in the past. We'll be back to try some of the other dishes!

I loved coming here and experiencing the food! There's not a lot of seating but turnover for happy patrons is very quick! Overall, I was very impressed with the ramen. It reminds me of the Slurping Turtle in Ann Arbor! I do think that this ramen is just a little bit better! The broth was perfect and the noodles were cooked just rights we did order a sushi roll to try and it was about average. It is mostly a ramen restaurant. I already have plans to return!

Their ramen is the closest thing you'll find to what they have in Japan. Service is fast and efficient - no small talk. Seating is uncomfortable (random scattering of metal bar stools and high tops) and it's not a place you really want to stay in for the ambiance, sort of a hole in the wall, but it's great for a comforting meal before heading home for a nap! Hidden gem - truly, the best ramen in Metro Detroit.

Best ramen in the Metro Detroit area hands down. Spicy tantanmen, vegan ramen, chashu buns, shumai, all excellent. Something for everyone! Service is just as good. I love coming here and bringing friends to try it. Music choice is great as well! Lots of songs from anime movies and series, takes me out of Detroit and into Japan.

[First time reviewing] Tried out this place for the first time tonight around 8pm, where there were about 4/5 groups of people in this smalll store. There wasn't anyone to welcome us, so we sat oursalves down and waited for someone to come and give us menu's. Once we did, we ordered two items (which were of recommendation of who seemed to be the cook). The first being the Shun Special Sushi Rolls. They were pretty good and had a nice balance of salty of sweetness to it. The tempura crunch was a really tasty addition and I thoroughly enjoyed picking the leftover crumbs of it. Personally, I'd give it a 9/10. The second item was the Hiyashi Chuuka (aka Cold Noodles)--as a first-timer, we didn't know what to expect, and there wasn't much of an explanation given by the guy who was serving us. Although it's not his fault since we technically didn't ask, but we did verbally state we were new and confused. Not a big deal, but would've been nice to learn some things. Once we took a bite, it pretty much had an overpowering flavor and quite a bit of saltiness. The broth gave the cucumbers and tomatoes a very strong taste, and the meat itself had it's own flavor. I'd give this item a 6/10 since it was an overpowering welcome to the ramen world (lol). I'd say this place is decent enough for people who are curious about Japanese ramen and the sorts, but there are a few things to take note of. The store is very small, so it can easily get crampt if too busy. This especially may cause problems to the service portion since there doesn't seem to be a lot of workers present, so it may take a bit before you could get seated by a waiter or call someone for service. Most importantly, the tables are placed a bit higher than normal, and the seats are pretty uncomfortable since they're small and made of metal, which is not recommended for sore muscles (). You could practically stand and eat if you so prefer (coming from a 5'4" person). Overall, I'd say that I would come back again just to see what the other menu items taste like just for fun. It's not a place I'd frequent (because of the space, not the food), but it won't hurt to come again. :) P.S. you have to come up to the front counter to pay it seems

This is a small little shop, but it gets the job done for sure!! The workers are super sweet and quick, wait time is not long at all. They have the absolute BEST ramen out there. I refuse to eat ramen at other shops. Absolutely love this place

Was visiting family in Michigan and decided to try out this new Ramen/Sushi place. The place is relatively small but it's very clean. We ended up having the ramen tonkotsu. The pieces of Chashu were absolutely delicious but the stand out was the broth and the hand made ramen noodles. The broth itself was thick and tasted really rich. It went well with the chewy noodles that they had and of course the egg was delicious (not overcooked and still yokey). We also tried out some of their rolls. The eel, tuna and shrimp tempura rolls were great, but the thing that I noticed the most was the fact that it wasn't excessively made with thick layers of rice. There was a thin layer of rice for every roll which really made it so that it wasn't heavy feeling and you got to taste the other ingredients way more. Overall, I would definitely recommend coming here if you're looking to try out ramen and sushi, especially the tonkotsu/ramen combo.

Tried Shun on 3/28/2024. Ambiance is diner. High top tables. Sparse atmosphere. Not a lot of overhead on this dining room. The service was fast and friendly. Very friendly. I was welcomed and sat immediately with water and menus in place in a snap. Top marks. The food was delicious. I ordered Shoyu ramen. Wonderful noodles. Tasty chicken broth. My daughter ordered a California sushi roll. It was as expected. Very tasty. I'll do 4 stars but it's more like 4 1/2. I will definitely go back.

We've went to several ramen restaurants but this one I can finally give 5 stars in Michigan. We had the shoyu and tantanmen ramen. Both were very flavorful. If your Asian or have been to Japan, I would ask the soup to be boiling hot when ordering. Will visit again!

This was a spur of the moment choice. Glad we made it! Sushi great and fresh. The noodle bowl was also good. Curry croquettes were to die for! Definitely recommend this place. The inside is on the smaller side but still a few tables to sit and eat.

I was in the area and decided to stop in around lunch to try their ramen. They have sushi too, and some starters, but I ended up ordering the tonkotsu. It came out in record speed and I was very happy with the flavorful broth. I didn't care for the pork though, and prefer a fresh egg. It was $16 for a bowl, which is a little pricey considering that's what I normally pay for a bowl in downtown Chicago. Ambiance was casual, and I liked the music they were playing. They had a few tables and some counter seating, but it's a pretty small place. No complaints about service. Easy parking since the location is in a little strip mall. That's all I got for this one - 2.5 rounded up to 3 stars.

A nice small place for quick ramen or sushi. It's a recent opening I believe about 4 months ago and I wanted to try it out. I got the spicy tonkotsu and chashu bun, which were both pretty tasty. I'd recommend the spicy tonkotsu for anyone wanting to try a little bit more flavor. It wasn't toooooo spicy for me so I'd add some chili sauce to it if preferred. I wasn't too blown away but also I left feeling full and happy. The chashu bun tasted how it's supposed to taste according to my Japanese food conssoueir friend. I'd come back to try the sushi next time. The staff were super friendly and quick to serve us. We came on a Tuesday night so I guess there weren't that many coming out to eat so we got our food pretty fast. Seating is relatively on the smaller side but can cater for bigger groups 6-8 to seat at a table if it's not too busy. Parking is right outside and close by

After reading all the awesome reviews I was really looking forward to coming here. Unfortunately for me it was a huge let down. The ramen place my husband and I usually go to is closed Mondays and Tuesdays so we got takeout from here instead. We each got the tonkotsu ramen, I got the regular and my husband got the spicy. It was just ok. The broth was decent but that's about it. The pork was also just ok. And then there was no other add ins besides a little bit of green onion. We also got a California roll and a spicy yellowtail roll. My husband said the spicy yellowtail roll was probably the best thing that we ordered. My California roll was not good at all, didn't taste like a California roll. Overall we were both very disappointed in this place. Not sure if we just came on an off night?

5 minute Ramen bowls, so do I really need to say anything else? Small place, bring a big appetite.

Although I enjoyed the ramen and the service was fast, I felt like it was missing all the accessories that normal ramen places have. I felt like it was missing seaweed, the second half of the egg or even fish cakes or bamboo. The portions were smaller than what I would have liked. The place was a smaller more local. And, there are only a couple of tables. Definitely a more casual vibe. It felt homey though!

Wow. This fast casual ramen shop is the new kid on the block in Detroit's noodle-filled landscape. I wouldn't call myself a ramen aficionado, but I can be pretty harsh critic to the point that I question my own tastebuds and sanity. However, this delicious hole-in-the-wall brought me back down to earth. The shoyu ramen was great, but the tonkatsu ramen flat out rocked. The creamy pork broth had wallops of umami savory-ness with an earthy mushroom and fish undertone lingering on the tongue. The noodles were fantastically chewy with slight bounce and the pull apart chashu was tasty and mouthwatering. Outside of Japan, few places pay true respect to the dish, and this is absolutely one of them. This kid is going places. Update: I have gone back twice already, and every one there has been so nice, gracious, and humble. I would go back alone for the hospitality.

It's only been open for a week. Chicken meat is coming to the menu, some day. The Shoyu is actually a chicken broth. I ordered the Shoyu with fried tofu, added spicy paste and chili oil and spicy tonkotsu with added chili oil and spicy paste to make it hotter. Ordered a futomaki roll and a california roll with added cream cheese had a side of sriracha. One more California roll with added cream cheese and green onions inside and a 3rd side of sriracha to our total order. $63.60. The futomaki isn't bad, loosely rolled. The pickled ginger tastes odd, perfumed even. The california is decent, the cream cheese makes it better, of course. The Shoyu broth is good, the chili paste gives it a nice heat and adds depth and flavor to the chicken broth too. The fried tofu are quite crispy, not bad. The noodles aren't my favorite, too skinny and not as chewy as I would have liked. The tonkatsu broth is okay, the Shoyu is better to me, has more flavor to me. I didn't eat my noodles and gave them my hubby, since he loves his gluten noodles when he can get them. The second California roll was better with the added green onion inside. Service was warm, friendly and attentive too, a solid 4. The food wasn't too bad. The California roll was the best oar of the meal for me. Will be better when they have chicken meat as an option and better noodles too. The fried tofu was a little hard texture wise for the ramen soup and the noodles didn't do much for me in my ramen.

Finally tried this spot near the house. The food & service is good. Definitely will be back to try the other noodles. Tonkatsu-The noodles were good & chewy, tasted fresh. The broth was yummy, felt like the noodle & broth ratio was good, I had broth left over, it was also filling. I think the bowl makes it looks like it's a small portion, but it was not. Takoyaki - these were yummy, has a good amount of sauce on it, has a little more cinnamon taste, if you're not a fan of cinnamon. Flavor is pretty standard for most. Wish there was more fish flakes, but def would get it again. Taiwanese beef - this was really good, the broth has a lot Of flavors & a favorite for me. The meat is also tender & it has a little chili oil, so there's a kick but not too spicy.

I'm beginning to think that the R in John R stands for restaurant, particularly on this stretch in Madison Heights. There's plenty of competition in Madison Heights, with any number of Asian restaurants vying for your food dollar. Shun is one that I had passed many times effectively shunning Shun! I think the stores front fooled me looking like a takeout joint. But I was mistaken. There's certainly a brisk to go trade but the small dining room filled with almost communal high tops offers plenty of spots to dine in. RW and I were thinking Asian food on a brisk Saturday so I suggested trying Shun. The menu includes a nice selection of Ramen and Sushi and a list of apps. Well RW (but mainly me) ordered like we had a tip on an upcoming famine. We had a roll to start and some Gyoza, both fantastic. But the soups are over the top! Broths that make Pho' seem like consomme. Deep soothing flavors with perfect ramen and your choice of add ins. Some are spicy so be ready. All in a fantastic Ramen experience in a plain wrapper store front. Ramen gets it done with great food and super friendly service. Shun.....it's noodle-rific! Go!

Read reviews and thought I had to try this "new" place with Ramen and a fusion of my Asian favorites: Chinese,Korean, and Japanese. Dumplings, Karaage fried chicken bites,Dragon sushi roll and spicy Ramen were our choices. It's a small place that does a brisk eat-in and carryout. My favorite was the sushi. The karaage was good though a bit over fried. The spicy Ramen had plenty of meat in its broth. This was my first Ramen so not sure how to judge it. I'm a pho broth person and wanted more flavor but not sure they're comparable. If you want a variety try this place. Their service plus options says they have a following

Delicious ramen and wonderful staff. The food came out really quickly and was hot and delicious. After we finished eating we chatted with the staff and they were all extremely friendly. It was a great experience and we'll definitely be back.

The Ramen here is the best in the area hands down. I've been to Japan and California and these guys make Ramen of the same caliber. No other place in Michigan is making homemade broth and fresh homemade noodles. You're either getting one or the other or neither. One sip of the broth and you're in flavor town. The Tantanmen is fantastic! The service is attentive and friendly. Highly recommend !!!

My family is super picky about ramen and we have many, many places throughout metro Detroit and Ann Arbor. Shun has by far the most flavorful broth I've had in ages. Great food. We had an assortment of entrees and all were delicious. Further, staff was amazingly attentive and polite.

Kept seeing people fill the dining room every time I drove by on my way home from work, so I knew I had to try this place out! I was pleased to find out that this place has the same owners of QQ Bakery, one of my favorite Chinese bakeries in the area. Their pleasant faces greeted me in the same familiar manner like at QQ, and it instantly made me feel more confident about the food that I'd be getting. Not to mention all the glowing reviews on Google and here on Yelp! I was fiending for a good noodle soup, not necessarily ramen, so I was pleased to find they had the Taiwanese beef soup. A few things sounded good on the app menu but I wanted to save myself for the soup. Overall I found the broth flavorful and deep, if not a little sweet for my liking. One thing I forgot to ask for that they may or may not have had was some chili oil which would've helped with the sweetness as well as provide some heat. My only complaint? I usually judge a soup by how hot it comes out, and the soup came out below my heat threshold. By this I mean that I want to HAVE TO cool off my soup with a couple blows before I eat it. Otherwise I feel like it just don't hit like it should, not as soul-warming and satisfying lol. Minor complaint, to be fair. The meat basically melted in my mouth, the bok choy still holding up to the heat with a light crunch. The noodles were a nice texture and satisfying to slurp. I could've put 3-4 more stalks of green onion in there, but that's just me and my love for green onions. Overall, I'd come back for the Taiwanese beef noodle soup and I can't wait to try all the other ramen and apps!
