Popular Portland Sandwich Shop Shut Up and Eat Just Closed in Southeast | Eater Portland

"A casual counter-service sandwich shop on SE Cesar E Chavez, Shut Up and Eat served breakfast sandwiches, massive meatball subs, cheesesteaks, and other sandwiches for nearly ten years as part of a deli and catering group. The closure was sudden: the restaurant announced this morning that it closed its doors Sunday night for good, posting on its windows, “Regretfully, after nearly ten wonderful years, Shut Up and Eat has served its last sandwich. As of 6 p.m. on Sunday, March 3rd, we have closed our doors for the final time. We are very grateful to everyone who has supported us over the past decade.” The restaurant hasn’t provided any explanation for the sudden shutdown, and Eater has reached out for additional information." - Alex Frane

Stopped in with some friends on our way back from AC. They definitely had some interesting spins on the menu that I had to try! It was breakfast with a twist and Phoebe was amazing at helping us navigate through it, while also treating us with great service! Would definitely recommend stopping in to start the day right!

Google
We stopped at this place in 2020 randomly found it on our way home from the Jersey Shore. Now every time I go down to the Jersey Shore, I make it a stop as part of the trip!! Its a family owned kitschy vibe. Their endearing purposeful rudeness is part of their shtick. The mismatched plates & chairs, along with the eclectic decor keeps this place casual & relaxed. The food is out of this world delish... simple grilled cheese served 20 ways, from burgers to breakfast this place is A++ 5☆s.

Google
We searched “best family restaurant near me” while heading back from the Jersey Shore, and this place popped up—and wow, are we glad it did! I let my son pick out my burger, and he went with the "Aye Bobby" burger. I’d never think to order a burger with disco fries on it, but there I was—gravy and fries right on my burger. Easily one of the best burgers I’ve had in a long time. 10/10. My wife had the stuffed French toast with Nutella (decadent and delicious), one of our boys got the chicken and waffles (crispy and flavorful), and the other had a tall stack of chocolate chip pancakes (they didn’t last long). Everything was fantastic—fresh, tasty, and perfectly cooked. The service was just as great as the food. Our waitress and the rest of the staff were friendly, attentive, and welcoming. We will definitely be back!

Google
Inventive dishes- great menu, great service (in PJ’s!). Don’t miss the fruit bruschetta appetizer, Benny bowls. Good coffee in grannie-core mugs. Just loved the whole experience!

Google
Great place. Excellent and unique selections that included breakfast appetizers. The staff was very nice and attentive. We went two days in a row and it didn't disappoint.

Google
How many times I was told “Shut Up & Eat” now you can at “Shut Up & Eat” in Toms River New Jersey! Right off of the Garden State Parkway at Exit 82 Shut up & Eats offers an extensive breakfast and lunch menu. I have to say this cozy breakfast find was a welcome surprise can’t wait to go back!

Google
The food concepts here are great but with what I had it was missing ingredients that could have made them fantastic. 1 BIG issue is that the footlong hot dogs should not be served on a Hoagie Roll! 😆 What in the world were you thinking!? Definitely find longer hotdog rolls. I had so much room in that roll I could've fit at least 3 more hotdogs in there! That was crazy. The hotdogs are so skinny.. I had the Tart Apple, Bacon and Pepper Jack Grilled Cheese as well.. I couldn't even taste the Apples at all. It was just there for texture. This sandwich needs an apple spread inside.. That would bring that grilled cheese to life! It really just tasted bland for all that was included. I'll be back to try the breakfast items because they look more like a hit! Thanks for the experience.. Oh... And the waitresses look like they all work at a doctor's office . . Hahaha. Are they wearing scrubs?? It caught my eye..

Google
I really loved this restaurant! It was a very home-y atmosphere with their decorations, tablecloths, plates, & pajamas - plus the incredibly friendly and funny staff. I got the “Shut Up and Eat” waffle which was absolutely delicious! Definitely hope to come back soon :)

Yelp
What can you say about this place that hasn't been said already. Great food, huge portions and reasonable prices. Plus a cool looking place.

Yelp
Came here for a Sunday(12:45) brunch for two and had a good experience. Walked in and it was very crowded, line was out the door but maybe 15 mins wait and was seated. I ordered a breakfast burger and it was a hand formed patty with good flavor so i enjoyed it! Also ordered pancakes where you could choose as many topping as you wanted but i kept simple with strawberry banana inside them - great flavor and cooked perfectly. Negatives: now for some tough feedback, I will say the menu was overwhelming tons to look and read from one front/back page... maybe an updated book style would help. The decor did look like a bit of clutter and like the inside of a garage yard sale. It was also a bit dark but not to the point where i couldnt read the menu - just noting it as a bit off. Overall i enjoyed the cash only / homestyle vibe. Very friendly service.

Yelp
Visiting from out of town and was craving a porkroll egg and cheese sandwich. Read reviews and it recommended this restaurant . The following is just my opinion . It's a small neighborhood quirky place , mismatched chairs and coffee mugs , waitresses in pajamas which all add to its charm the only problem was the sandwich the porkroll was not grilled enough and the roll seemed to be a generic soft store bought roll not the great Kaiser hard roll I was craving , it came with home fries which were cold and mushy . The other breakfast items may be great .

Yelp
My Mother-In-Law is 94 years old, has her sassy attitude, talks like sailor dishes the advice- she is sharp as all get out! she likes to raise eyebrows with her sassy talk, I am blessed that she is such a wonderful mom to me. so, our breakfast and lunch outings are enjoyed tremendously and our grocery shopping outings together are treasures to me. She literally has no filter lol Taking her to breakfast is always a fun - envision this, you are sitting at a table having your coffee, eating breakfast, and see an old lady walk in with her cane, pocket book and carrying on about how she isn't hungry, why am i dragging her out yada yada, ....sits down and looks at the menu and it begins...... Her: (no eye contact) It's so nice that you took me out of the closet so I can have food and coffee Me: (looking at the menu-- no eye contact)-- MAH!! - ya had crackers and Mountain Dew on Tuesday-- Her: true- true- but ya knowwww the crackers and tap water are really not tasty (people watch and listen in horror) Her: looks over the menu at me-- ( giggling) do you think I could have an egg, it's been months since I have had a real egg and not egg carton egg whites Me: (OMG) yessss ..you can have an egg, wants some potatoes with that too?? Her: laughing hysterically and says--- can I say it???? can I say it??? Me: Yes... Her: SHUT UP AND EAT DOLLY!! I'M DEAD!! I love this woman!! My husband is never phased, he just sits there sipping his coffee- know we will be walking the aisles of Traders Joe's soon and she will be doing the same thing there- with her antics. She truly loves this little restaurant, she never tried spam as a breakfast item until she came here (I make here Spam Musubi) but she now enjoys eggs with Spam, turns out it happens to be her favorite with the potatoes, and she orders extra because she likes to have a little tasty "midnight" snack while she watches her Turner Movie Classics. I will say the menu is huge and the Veg omelette is a favorite of mine as well as the pancake selection. You can't go wrong with anything here and the coffee cup is never empty!!! Great service, great food, great memories!!

Yelp
I had high hopes for this place because of the name. It was ok. Huge menu with cute names for each dish but you had to read every item to find what it consisted of. Very cluttered with dusty "decor" including Christmas (in May) and everything felt "sticky". Grilled sandwiches were very greasy. Floors didn't look like they had been mopped good in a long time. Very dark inside, very few lights and blinds were drawn. Staff was very lovely but we wouldn't go back. Felt like a bit of a hoarder house that served food.

Yelp
This place did not disappoint. Thank you my fellow Yelpers!!! Amazing little mom and pop place with incredible food. Our waitress was awesome and so helpful. They were PJs as their uniforms which is so cool.. We started with an order of grilled banana bread which delicious. Perfect seared with butter. For breakfast We ordered a ham and cheese omelette and one of the speciality grits bowl. Food came out on mix matched plates which was pretty cool. Our coffee was poured the same. Each mug was different. Prices were fair for the portion size and food was fresh. They aren't located far off the parkway either if you are driving by. I definitely recommend going here and checking them out. You will not be disappointed.

Yelp
Fun place! Friendly staff in pajamas, wall decor, picture wall of 1000+ patrons I assume, Huge menu (too big actually). Will return many times over. Even though I am a "Benny"! Mess bowl was delicious with fried eggs on top. Bacon In sandwich was great and crispy. I saw waffles and fruit walk by. Looked great.

Yelp
Came here with my fiancé and his mom and stepdad. They come here regularly and have been telling us about this place. The inside is eclectic and so fun and the staff is extremely friendly. This place felt very home-y and welcoming. The menu is huge. Apparently the menu we saw was the updated shortened menu. There's something for everyone: breakfast, sandwiches, burger salads, etc. I had such a hard time deciding on what to get. I landed on the Benny Bowl; 2 poached eggs, Canadian bacon and Hollandaise sauce all over breakfast potatoes with a buttered English muffin on the side. The bowl was delicious!! Sadly we live up in north Jersey but will definitely come back next time we're in the area. The mac and cheese cheesesteak is calling my name!
google avatar

Maureen L.

Yelp
The food is great. We love the breakfast called The Mess. I also like their Chicken Fingers even though chickens don't have fingers.
google avatar

Yelp
This was a gem in disguise. The food was delicious, the seating was comfortable, and the wait staff was on point. I would recommend a good meal at this place. I wish I lived closer so it would be on my list of regular places to eat.

Yelp
Is there a more New Jersey restaurant title than Shut Up and Eat? I am a fan of this place along with its kitsch and quirkiness. I thought the Cheesecake Factory had a big menu but SUAE gives them a run for their money! Come hungry, bring cash, and enjoy watching That 70s Show or whatever else they are playing while you eat.

Yelp
Tom's Rivers Ultimate Diner, a.k.a. "Shut Up and Eat," where pancakes and bacon do the talking - and trust me, they speak fluent deliciousness. You also are a lucky duck if you go on the weekends because servers dress down in their Jammie's and the atmosphere is lightheaded and fun always . The pancakes are fluffier than a cloud in a comforter factory, and the bacon is Crispier than a freshly laundered shirt - it's like breakfast's rebel with a cause. Pair that heavenly combo with a coffee so strong it could wake up the dead (or at least your morning grumpiness) I always get a water , an apple juice and a coffee to boot - it gets a bit crowded and the service can be slow but that's really a minimal problem. The real dilemma here is not whether to order more pancakes but how to resist doing a bacon-inspired happy dance in the middle of the diner. SHUT UP AND EAT FOLKS : where the food speaks louder than your growling stomach, and the only appropriate response is a satisfied silence. I am LuisaThexplorer and I approve of this MESSAGE!

Michelle J.

Yelp
A cute little place with a lot of memorabilia decorations. Our waitress was very pleasant and quick to joke with us. Menu was expansive and so many things sounded good. Settled on an Italian hot dog and my friend had a Reuben. Both were excellent. Food choices went from snacking, fast food to full meals. Would definitely hit it up again the next time I am in that area.

Yelp
Food disastrous Wanted to try someplace new for breakfast. Kind of a cutesy hometown feel as you walk in with a friendly staff to greet you. Large menu to choose from and I went with self-created omelet consisting of spinach, Taylor ham, avocado and pepper jack cheese. My boyfriend, the Potatoe pancakes with a side of kielbasa. My omelet was good, not great, but came with burnt toast with no butter and burnt, unrecognizable and unappetizing hash browns. Largely inedible. My boyfriend's potato pancakes were beyond overcooked making them dry as a bone. The side of kielbasa was burnt and overly salty. Pictures hardly describe how bad and overcooked everything was. Once food delivered to table, wait staff becomes scarce and not once asking how our food was. The bill was $40 with tip which was way overpriced for what it was. NOTE: They only take cash but do have an ATM machine in the restaurant. With all of the good breakfast restaurants in the area, unfortunately, they will not be seeing our faces again. Cannot recommend.

Yelp
Really a great place. The employees are very nice and fun to deal with the food is excellent. I don't have one bad thing to say about this place. It's unique and its decor and the way the servers dress their pajamas lol give it a try you'll be happy you did.

Yelp
What a fantastic little gem! We visited as a party of four; 1 great grandma, 2 adults, and a 13 year old. Everyone got something different from the extensive menu and everyone was impressed! Service was great, really friendly and comfortable. Highly recommended. I will be back on our next visit from the UK.

Yelp
I take no pleasure in writing a negative review, however our dining experience here was ruined by one person. I'm sure there are many hard working people here, but when you have an extremely rude server who works for you, you really should do something about it. There are numerous other reviews on here and on google stating that diners had a bad time here due to the rudeness of the service staff. The positives, the decor is very cute, the food was good, no wait for seats. The place is small, if I had to guess, maybe it seats 50? The bad, the rudest server I have ever encountered in my life, although he didn't start off that way. He warned us numerous times that the food would take a while. In my mind, I'm like ok, 15 minutes? It's brunch food, not a 5 course dinner. It ended up taking 35 minutes. So, when the food arrived, I asked why had the food taken so long, and he went off on me...the excuses were: there was a party of 11, 25 other people that got there before me that were waiting for their orders, there's to go orders, and there was a sign on the door that says the food takes a long time to prepare, that it's all prepared fresh. And that we were only waiting 35 minutes. I said 'only'? I said to him all I did was ask you a question, you don't have to get so defensive. I actually thought of walking out at this point. If the to go orders are monopolizing the kitchen time at the expense of your eat in diners, that's a problem. TAKE NOTE MS OWNER But then owner came by and took over, I said to her his response was nasty and rude and she said while everything he said was true, his delivery was wrong. Not only was it wrong, it was outrageous. For being in the hospitality business, he was anything but hospitable. While I get they were busy, but if you can't handle 40 diners ordering brunch/lunch, then you need more staff in the kitchen. And the kicker was, my omelette order came out wrong. The owner to her credit, had the correct order in front of me in about 5 minutes, she was very nice and pleasant, yet it doesn't take away that she condones this behavior. And the icing on the cake, the server came back about 5 minutes after I got the correct order with what I thought was going to be an apology for his rude behavior, what I got was, I'm sorry but I have to leave early, I was called away for an emergency and I'll have someone leave you the check. This can't be for real, right? What should have happened was that the owner should have told the server to apologize for his rude behavior. What a joke. If you don't have the patience to deal with the public, find another job. The sign on the front door that says the food takes a while to come, does not give the serving staff Carte Blanche to be rude to patrons. This isn't Dick's Last Resort. I wonder, was the server the owner's family member? Regardless, he should be fired. TAKE NOTE. HIS BEHAVIOR WAS UNACCEPTABLE. I did leave a tip, not my usual 20% plus, but around 17-18% for the poor other souls that have to work this rude server (kitchen staff, bussers etc). The last kicker, since you (the server, owner, staff) know how slow your kitchen is, it should NOT take 10 minutes to get a coffee refill, and even we had to flag someone down to get it.

Yelp
Food is great. Service was fabulous. Feebie was our waitress she is so fun and friendly and knows her sh!t!!! Cute quaint place with a huge choice of things to eat on the menu. Give it a try we love it here

Jay X.

Yelp
Excellent food, perfect portions, healthier choices also on menu. The waitstaff are friendly & attentive, helpful with the menu & they all bring a smile. The atmosphere is comfortable... like being in a small town neighborhood eatery. Prices very reasonable. Very pleased all around & will definitely make this that regular, fun breakfast/lunch spot we take friends & family to. Thanks

Clint B.

Yelp
Warm, friendly environment that made us feel instantly comfortable. The decor is eclectic in an "American Pickers" way. Very charming. The service was prompt and friendly. The menu selection is huge with all the traditional choices, but it except grits :-), and a lot of unique options, as well. I had the "Sloppy Mess" and it was amazing! Also got a side of pancakes made with fresh blueberries. Great choice.

Yelp
YES....YES....YES!! Clicks all the boxes: clean, friendly, great food, extensive menu, good prices.
google avatar

Yelp
This place gave me an uncanny feeling of being uncomfortable I didn't think it was sanitary that the waiters would wear pjs that they probably slept in. I also don't think that anything matches . But the food was pretty good .

Yelp
When you see pig statues fornicating in the window, you just know you're going to be in for an interesting food adventure when you come here. If you're looking for a quirky, breakfast/lunch spot with great food and friendly service, this is your place. Came here for breakfast and as soon as you walk in you see all kinds of crazy paraphernalia on the walls , tables with mismatched chairs and a long bar also with mismatched chairs. Kind of gave us kind of a homey, cozy country feeling. Next thing you notice, all the waitresses are dressed in pajamas, so great and all so friendly. After perusing the great breakfast and lunch menu, my wife went with one of the selections under the "Eggs Bennies Go Home" section, Eggs Benedict with Canadian ham and a side of grits cleverly served in a Christmas coffee mug. My wife thoroughly enjoyed it. I was in the mood for pancakes and this Short Stack was big, fluffy and served with an egg a sausage on the side, delicious. Really enjoyed this spot and since it's local to us I'm sure we'll be coming back again and again to try some of the other great dishes on their menu.

Yelp
Great food, adequate service fun ambiance. Very good place for breakfast. Will return often. We will take all of our guests here for breakfast.
google avatar

Yelp
Went the other day for "lunch with the guys" and enjoyed our meals. The menu is staggering, so I will need to go back to try something else. Our waitstaff came to the table wearing pajamas - and if I had known I might have done the same in order to claim my 13% deduction. This is a fun, casual place with fairly priced selections. Not gourmet - but good! I will definitely be back.
google avatar

Andrew C.

Yelp
The place is cramped, and tables are uncomfortably close to each other, BUT... Food was perfectly prepared with big portions and an imaginative breakfast menu. You can get pretty much anything in an omelette - I recommend kielbasa. Despite the name of the place, nobody gets yelled at. As a matter of fact, the staff was very friendly and welcoming.

Yelp
Heard about this place and finally was able to get here. Very important - CASH ONLY restaurant. They have an ATM if needed. First and foremost the food is absolutely delicious. Served hot, fresh, great! Focus is on the ingredients which are made to order. Eggs were cooked exactly the way I asked (over medium) over the breakfast bowl which was grits, cheese, avocado, tomato, toast, eggs, a choice of meat- I took ham. The service is personal , like an old friend, comfortable and laid back. The decor is like stepping back in time , sitting at your great-grandmas kitchen table. The menu is huge. A lot of choices, some out of the ordinary. Not the typical things at a run of the mill diner. Any friends that come to town , I will be taking them here. It's also a good place to go with a spouse or friends for a cozy, delicious, home made meal.
google avatar

April S.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious food. Love that they feel like you're eating at home. The staff is amazing. I had the peanut butter and banana waffles. So good. Crispy outside and soft inside.
google avatar

Amanda D.

Yelp
I really don't even know where to start. The beginning is always a good idea. We drove up to the restaurant not really having expectations. The outside is standard and the name was interesting. As soon as we walked in I knew the food was going to be good. The environment is so different, I've never seen anything like it. Everything from the decorations to the coffee mugs looks like it was donated. Really cool and different! The staff are such a characters! He really made our experience. The food was delicious! You can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Best thing though is that you have the opportunity to donate to a non-profit at the restaurant! Love it. This will be our new spot coming up from AC.

Yelp
12 out of 10 would recommend!! Not only very nice staff who are great with kids their food is awesome.

Cara R.

Yelp
Really was not a great service experience and food was just okay. The waitress was nice and apologitic but we had to wait about 2 hours for a couple of eggs with no acknowledgment of the wait or ETA of when we would get the food. Didn't make it better that we were seated at the bar so it felt like we were ignored except for when the workers were screaming over us to talk to each other. Truly giving 2 stars seems generous but the food was pretty good just again nothing special or memorable. One small things I usually would not make a fuss about but cause of my not so great experience, I will point out that they do NOT offer free water and you have to pay 2$ for a bottle. Especially cause at the end of the day we were there for 2.5 hours due to the wait and had to get water so pretty peeved about that. My impression: not worth the wait and if you are going for eggs, might as well make them at home.

Yelp
Shut up and eat is in the middle of the city of Atlantic City, and New York. The place has many great foods and an almost endless menu. It has a TV which plays movies. It also has many cool, interesting, and funny posters on the walls.

Lynn S.

Yelp
Went the first time and the food was amazing. The second time it was below average. Spotty service The place was pretty empty when we went but the service was lacking Might try one more time before I cross it off my list
google avatar

Yelp
If you're a fan of grits, I highly recommend the Grit Bowl. I had one with over easy eggs and well done bacon. Delicious!! **CASH ONLY (ATM ON-SITE)**
google avatar

Bret K.

Yelp
One of a kind place that had a lovely lunch crowd during football season at a place that does not serve booze. Great energy and cool decor all over. Outstanding customer service. The gentleman who I believe owns the place takes amazing care of his customers , hustles to make things happen and is a pretty funny dude. Menu is solid and you can't say they don't have what you're looking or hoping for. I went with the disco fried egg bowl and it came out nice. Bottled seltzer is unnecessary but that ain't no big deal. Can't wait to go back when I'm in the area.
google avatar

Yelp
Was on business heading back home and trusted with picking a place for me and my colleagues to have breakfast and boy were we pleasantly fulfilled! Anytime we come to the area this will be our breakfast spot for sure. The whole aesthetic is great and the staff is friendly and attentive. Unfortunately I only got a picture of my hot chocolate as we were all just so hungry after traveling from Atlantic City early and trying to find sustenance. Our party diner on Benedict, waffle, French toast, eggs, and almost every meat they had. Everything was spot on. Can't wait for the trip next year!

F F.

Yelp
i never got to order any food because i wanted a glass of water with my order, but they won't serve you a glass of tap water. you have to buy a bottle of water, so we can add one more piece of plastic to the polluted planet. since they're surcharging a dollar for an egg dish, whether you have one, two, or three eggs, you would think they could afford to provide a free glass of tap water but apparently not. instead, they charge $2 for a plastic bottle of water. i can't abide that kind of greed, so i skipped the water and the food.

Claire M.

Yelp
Everything good, overpriced but yummy. Hundreds of food items on menu, all different choices that on other place serves. Fills you up, service and ambiance have no problem
google avatar

Kim C.

Yelp
Will never ever come back again. Tom the server is rude and nasty and needs to take a class on how to treat customers. I understand they joke around with customers but he crossed the line. Some sensitivity training would do him good. The owner just defended his sexist comments by saying most people don't have a problem with it. Shame on you, it's 2024, do better.

V K.

Yelp
The food is excellent. The customer service is not. This was our first visit. My friend and I waited 4-5 minutes to be seated while employees didn't even glance our way except once to say 'Someone will be right with you'. They seemed to be rushing around behind the countertop/bar area. Most of the tables were empty. After being seated, I asked for water. The waitress replied that they don't give out water (no tap water, nothing), and she offered me bottled water which I had to pay for. I declined. Never in my entire life has an establishment refused to give me a glass of water. When the waitress came to take our order I asked if we could be moved to a table by the windows, where no one was sitting along that wall (we had been seated next to the busy-traffic countertop/bartop area), and she said no because she would be leaving soon and no one would be available to take over when she left. A different waitress took over from that point. By the time we left the restaurant, people had been seated at the windows. Don't waitstaff take over for each other? The chatter between employees walking through the eating area was loud and overbearing and constantly interrupted the conversation with my friend. We seemed to be at a show and the employees were actors. The waitress come over once to check on us. The name of the restaurant seems to be a message to the patrons, who won't have any peace while eating. When we left SHUT UP AND EAT, we were not calm and relaxed and smiling after a pleasant brunch out on the town. We were agitated and disappointed. I work hard for my money and will be a repeat customer where I am appreciated for my patronage. Elsewhere. Responding to Annie-- Hi, Annie. Not sitting two customers at a table meant for four is understandable, however, the waitress did not say that. She said that she was leaving soon and there would be nobody to attend our table if we sat by the windows. Regarding the tapwater situation: I have Toms River water also, and it smells. That's why I use a water filter. How about getting a filtering system for customer water? We have a nice unit at our office, and it is not large, and serves 70 people well with both cold water and hot water. Congratulations for being in business for 19 years. That is quite a feat.

Yelp
Was in the area for a track meet and stumbled upon Shut Up and Eat. Lots if reviews that were all positive so the decision was made. Would have loved to plan it better to be able to sit down a d enjoy a full breakfast before the meet but my timing was off. Called in a order to go so I could grab and go Ended up getting a breakfast sandwich with pork roll, egg, cheese and potatoes. When I arrived, sandwhich was ready and I we on my way. Sandwich was tasty and filling. Coming from up north, not sure why they put pork roll om the menu vs. Taylor Ham, but I won't let that affect my review. Can't help it of they name it wrong. All in all, a very tasty and filling sandwich that kept me going through the morning. Plan to return again and try their other breakfast menu items when I plan it better. All in all, a great meal from ordering on the phone to picking it up to go. Definitely worth checking out.

Great spot to meet my Mom (who lives 1/2 hr away; we are from North Jersey) for late breakfast/early lunch. Sooo many original options on the menu. I had deconstructed eggs Benedict in a bowl which was really good. Mom enjoyed her turkey club. It's like an old school cafe with an extensive menu, good coffee, and good service. Seems like a good place to bring kids too!

Yelp
You have to eat here! This place is cool. Hector or Bob or Tom helped us. I totally enjoyed every bite. The server was rude and funny as shit. That's what this place is about. If you get your feeling hurt easily don't come here. Very Pro Police and Pro military. I ate everything off my plate.

Yelp
What the heck?! LOVED IT!!! On our way down to Atlantic City,I found this place here on Yelp and glad I did. When we walked in, it was like a garage sale at grandmas exploded! So cute and kitschy. Immediately greeted and told to pick any table we wanted. Tried to look at the menu online but the font is small and blurry. The menu itself is massive and if you can't find anything to eat, something is wrong with you. Hubby ordered the pancakes, a side of bacon and potato pancakes. I ordered the Jeeves omelette, which is described at corned beef and cream cheese (but it had green peppers too, which I abhor!) We looked around before the food was served and every table had mismatched chairs. Some tables had a paper towel holder in lieu of napkins. Our server was dressed in pjs and gave us some Valentine's Day cards to fill out. They give them to charities, how very nice. Ok, the big moment when the food arrived! Huge portions served on different plate ware. 4 giant pancakes, a nice plate of bacon, 4 potato pancakes and my omelette with tasty hash browns and hearty toast. There was so much food we ended up bringing half of it home. Cash only but ATM on premises. Open for breakfast and lunch. Try it, you'll like it

Yelp
This place is a gem. Love the relaxed feel. The wait staff was friendly and really paid attention to their customers. The food was great, we had breakfast. The portions were so big we took half home.

Yelp
We love Shut Up and Eat and try to get there whenever we are in the area. The breakfast food is fantastic. The stuffed French toast with strawberries and Nutella is everything you think it would be and more.

Yelp
We were driving through from Wildwood, NJ to Shawnee, PA and wanted to eat at a local place that we couldn't get back at home. We found Shut Up and Eat on maps during our drive and I'm glad we did! The exterior was inviting and cute with lots of chairs and tables on a lake of pebbles. The servers are welcoming and seated us immediately. Our server was Phoebe and she is sensational! I ordered the Annie Sammich, my husband ordered the Elvis Presley burger, our son ordered the Chorizo burger and our daughter ordered the naked dog. All of our food was amazing! I was intrigued with my order when Annie (herself) came over and educated me on how she came up with the dish and even pulled my hair back for me as I took my first bite. Our entire family agreed we would definitely have this again and we had zero regrets on what we ordered. Would recommend this eatery to anyone and everyone!
