Shuzenji Temple

Small temple but with some impressive maple trees offering excellent momiji viewing within the temple grounds. I might recall wrongly, but I think they only offer pre-written goshuin

The Shuzenji Temple is just a stone throw away from the footpath and the historical outdoor onsen. Unfortunately, when we visited the temple there was a group of Chinese tourists talking inadequately loud, yelling and screaming and not behaving at all in a way that other people could enjoy a peaceful atmosphere. So I tried to get away from there without having had the chance to discover the beauty of this place. Very sad.

The temple is located within a very picturesque village. It’s within walking distance of red bridges, a bamboo walking path, river, hot foot bath, boutique shops, cafe’s and ryokans. It would be stunning in the autumn because of the numerous Japanese maple trees located within and surrounding the temple. I’ll be sure to visit again during momiji season 🍁

No free parking outside , but the walking distance is reasonable.

Lovely temple near the onsen hotels. The temple is not very big but the architectures are nice. There are not many tourists so it’s a good place to have a quite chill walk.

A thousand year old temple a place of respect Worship of the Japanese for a long time. Currently being well taken care of. is a tourist destination which is popular with both Japanese tourists and foreign tourists

Beautiful temple in a nice hot spring town easily accessible by bus from Shuzenji train station.
