Shuzenji Temple

Very nice temple in a cute little town. You can spend a few hours here (temple and streets around it). There's a small museum in the temple that cost 300 yen to enter. It had some nice old masks so I think it was worth it.

Nice temple with a museum, onsen-water for purifying your hands, and a collection of very nice Goshuin.

The Shuzenji Temple is just a stone throw away from the footpath and the historical outdoor onsen. Unfortunately, when we visited the temple there was a group of Chinese tourists talking inadequately loud, yelling and screaming and not behaving at all in a way that other people could enjoy a peaceful atmosphere. So I tried to get away from there without having had the chance to discover the beauty of this place. Very sad.

The temple is located within a very picturesque village. It’s within walking distance of red bridges, a bamboo walking path, river, hot foot bath, boutique shops, cafe’s and ryokans. It would be stunning in the autumn because of the numerous Japanese maple trees located within and surrounding the temple. I’ll be sure to visit again during momiji season 🍁

Small temple but with some impressive maple trees offering excellent momiji viewing within the temple grounds. I might recall wrongly, but I think they only offer pre-written goshuin
