"Metairie’s Shyan’s Kitchen is a Pakistani-Indian restaurant owned by Irfan Khan, who immigrated from his native Pakistan to New Orleans in 2007. Although the two cuisines are similar, they were the same country until 1947. There is beef on the menu, which isn’t served in India. Goat is simmered and sauteed six different ways, and a smoked chicken masala is a specialty of the house. Pakistan is primarily Muslim, which is why all the meats here are halal. Vegetable samosas and goat with saag gosht are must orders." - Clair Lorell, Beth D'Addono

Shyan's Kitchen is a hidden gem that serves up an unforgettable dining experience. I ordered the goat curry for lunch, and it was perfection—fall-off-the-bone tender, infused with rich, aromatic spices that blended beautifully in every bite. The naan was perfectly golden, lightly crisp on the outside, yet soft and warm inside—pure comfort. The menu offered an array of choices, and the service was genuinely kind and welcoming, making me feel right at home. It’s one of those cozy, tucked-away spots that you instantly connect with, like a well-kept secret you can’t wait to share. I loved it! Thank you!!!

Food flavors are good but there is room for improvement. It lacks a kick. At the moment, the food tastes like good home cooked food but not restaurant level. The owner and waiters are very friendly. The ambience has a lot of room for improvement. An okay place to have a bite when in a rush or for single people, but not a warm, inviting place for families or eat outs.

Google
Very good, no frills Indian/Pakistani casual restaurant w an extensive menu and substantial portions @ very reasonable prices. The service was great and we did not have to wait long for our food to arrive. Very positive experience!!!

Google
Excellent Pakistani food! The tea, chicken Tikka and goat curry was so healthy and flavorful. Our waiter was very hospitable and knowledgeable about the cuisine.

Google
AMAZING!!! Everything was amazing and the service is top notch. Do yourself a favor and come here asap! We had the beef and chicken kebab and it was so juicy and flavorful! Shyan service made up feel at home thank you! Can’t wait to come back!

We enjoyed the food and the service. We had the chicken pakora which was lightly breaded and fried perfectly. The mango lassi was sour and sweet and the iced chai was delicious. Our entrees, channa chicken and goat karahi, were delious and came as a large portion. The naan and roti were good, I would get the garlic cilantro naan next time for more flavor. We finished the meal with rus malai, two small paneer balls covered in chilled creamy milk. The dessert was delicious but quite small. Still amazing overall!

Google
The best lamb saag!!!! Very welcoming atmosphere. I live on WB and when I cross the river, I have to go here to eat. Service is impeccable. Owner is so very nice, patient, knowledgeable, friendly and welcoming. Highly recommend. Food is delivered hot and fresh. Amazing flavors. Love the garlic naan!!! Yum 😋

Google
Just ate here for the first time. The food was excellent, and the service was even better. The gentleman running everything (waiter, cook, server, cashier) was so warm and welcoming to everyone that walked in, and for Ramadan, every customer received a 5% discount. We'll definitely become regulars here.

Yelp
SCW and I stoped into Shyan's Kitchen after a brief search on Yelp. We were pretty hungry after a flight into New Orleans and Shyan's looked great. The parking area is small but adequate and the location was easy to find. We arrived very soon after opening and were greeted warmly and chose our seats. The interior was nice and clean. Several TVs are around the restaurant and it being a Sunday when we visited one of them was tuned to the days NFL proceedings. We looked at the vegetarian menu and ordered some samosas to start. They came out quickly and were incredible. The samosas were so well flavored and spiced both of us couldn't get over how good they were. The samosas came with some spiced chickpeas that were equally delicious. A little hint of smoke, quality spices, really really good. SCW ordered the Channa Masala, and I ordered the Aloo Mutter. Along with some bullet naan and basmati rice. Oh my, the dishes were absolutely amazing. I really enjoyed the spices (not hot) which added so much complexity and flavor to the dishes. I could not stop with the "mmm this is so good" while enjoying the meal. I found such a good balance of flavors in the Aloo Mutter, it really was incredible. I highly recommend both dishes. The service was incredibly kind, attentive but not overwhelming you. I really enjoyed the dining experience here and would easily return if in the area again. Give Shyan's Kitchen a try.

Yelp
Very tasty food, good service, reasonable portion sizes. I got take out from here twice while my stepdad was in EJGH. Very convenient location.

Yelp
Excellent food and service, will be back. Whenever I get a scan done at Diagnostic images, I always go here afterward for lunch !

Yelp
We love this place! Great food and great energy from the staff. Been there about 10 times and always delicious!

Yelp
Always great food and friendly service at Shyan's! Recently my go-to dish has been the Briyani (sort of like a South Asian jambalaya if you are not familiar with it). Love the breads too- especially the stuffed paratha.

Yelp
The food was delicious! We had the falafel appetizer and shared a beef curry in red sauce with naan. Excellent service; fast and courteous. Nice atmosphere and very clean restrooms.

Billy M.

Yelp
We had a wonderful meal of samosa chaat, chicken biryani, mint lassi, and gulab jamun, then got an order of Lahori fried chicken to go. Even warmed up the next day, that was some of the best fried chicken I've ever had. The service was prompt and kind. Looking forward to our next visit.

Yelp
This my main place to grab some quality Indian food and gyros. Boss man goes it goes out his way to make sure you're taken care of. I asked for some of that good hot sauce, and he didn't hesitate to make me some homemade hot sauce. Flavors are always robust and I highly recommend Shyan's to anyone with a palette. Also during Ramadan they give you a 15% discount.

Yelp
If you are Indian/Pakistani and used to authentic home cooking, I recommend you skip this place. I placed an order via Uber Eats and while the food arrived warm even after an hour wait, everything else was incredibly disappointing. I'm was in dire need of protein so decided to get a side of falafel - a mistake. These were more like stale, chewy pakora than juicy and fluffy falafel. The tamarind sauce inside spilled on the box/bag causing a mess and, more importantly, making this inedible for me because I hate sweet sauce. I'm not sure why they didn't provide tahini or even a green chutney instead. The channa aloo tasted very muted and flavorless - I was expecting a fresh, tomato-based flavor as indicated by the online menu. The channa were also super overcooked so it was very mushy. I took a chance on ordering the bindi/okra, and got burned there too (literally) - it tasted burnt and the okra was oddly stiff and stale. They provided enough rice to feed a family but the portions of everything else were quite small for the price. I ate about 10 bites and could not eat any more. I imagine their meat dishes might be made with more care/flavor, but I definitely will not order from here again.

Yelp
Service is so good! Ask for vegan/no butter naan. They'll do it! (First, stop at the Metairie Cat Hospital.)

Hiba M.

Yelp
Visiting New Orleans from Houston for the weekend , and found this amazing gem of a restaurant on our way back home. All I can say is WOW. If you want authentic & fresh Indian / Pakistani cuisine then this is the place to go! We ordered the chicken tikka masala , mutton karahi, and the papdi chaat for appetizer. Papdi was even fry fresh, delicious!! I have never had better Pakistani food in my life, I'm so thankful to have stumbled upon this place, I will definitely be back on our next trip 5 STARS!!!

Yelp
Some of the best local kept secret for Indian and Pakistani food in New Orleans/Metairie area. The lamb spinach is ALWAYS a hit and I like to order mine extra spicy and chef always deliver. Amazing food and great people too!

Sabbir M.

Yelp
The Chapli kabob was one of the best I've ever had in a Pakistani restaurant. The naan was very good as well. However the chicken Tikka masala was a miss - not spicy and not sweet - kinda bland and could use More spice

Yelp
Every item I tried at this restaurant was fantastic last night! I gave the goat biryani a bad review before, but I think it was a fluke last time. This time, the rice itself was well seasoned and VERY flavorful. I loved the taste of the tamarinds that were in there! The meat was tender, delicious, and plentiful as well. Not too many of the pieces were bony (some bones are unavoidable with dishes involving goat, that's the norm, if you're not familiar). After my poor experience with this dish, the owner kindly reached out to me to give this place another chance, and I am SO glad I did! The goat biryani was amazing this time around!! My boyfriend from Nepal even commented on how great it was! I will definitely be coming back to check on the consistency of its cooking. I hope it's this wonderful next time too! I also ordered a pakora, which was seasoned and fried to perfection. (It comes with a creamy reita sauce, but I like to dip it in regular yogurt!) Great appetizer. Lastly, the chicken tikka masala I ordered was exquisite! The chicken was soft and abundant, and the sauce for it was spectacular! The naan (or rice if you prefer) was buttery, and as large as a big dinner plate - just as thick too! Zero complaints at all this time around! It seems like the owner really cares about the quality of food he serves at his restaurant, and that matters to me a lot. This makes me think my previous experience really was just a bad fluke. In fact, I thought the food was so excellent this time around, I recommended Shyan's Kitchen to a friend today!

Yelp
Quality Indian food with amazing flavor. We ordered the chicken tikka masala with garlic naan, the saag paneer, the chicken pakora. All were amazing!!! The chicken tikka masala has such a distinct flavor, not too spicy, not too watery-- creamy with warm flavor notes. The service was unforgettable because the gentleman that I assume is the manager made sure that we were taken care of and did so with a smile. Highly recommend!

Genevieve F.

Yelp
The food was so yummy. I ordered Shrimp Tikka Masala and it was so good I ACTUALLY BROUGHT THE LEFTOVERS HOME! Their was so much rich curry flavors without the bite (I asked for it to be mild), I also ordered the ginger Naan which I also brought home. I the woman who always feeds her dogs her leftovers ATE my leftovers the next day. I did add a couple of pieces of shrimp to it because there wasn't enough shrimp but there was plenty of sauce. This restaurant is more Pakistani and serves halal meat (a had it available - I'm not sure which) so there is no alcohol not even beer.

Yelp
Incredibile, best restaurants ( Mediterranean cuisine PERIOD ) how ever you going to Spend Well worth it

Jamaella W.

Yelp
Second time eating it in one month. It's still great. Soon as I walked in a was seated asap and asked if I wanted to dine in or not. This month they are giving a 15% discount for Ramadan that is amazing. This place shouldn't be this empty on a Saturday night. But they have a retuning customer in me. The ac is pumping and everyone is so nice. I will def be returning and you should come too.

Emerald C.

Yelp
Food never, ever disappoints. Always on point. Food is always fresh and piping hot. Service is great and personable. Highly Recommend!!!

Gabi V.

Yelp
We came here for a late dinner and left satisfied. We ordered veggie samosas, lentil goat curry, paneer tikka masala and garlic naan. The paneer was my favorite dish. The sauce was perfectly silky and well balanced. The samosas weren't anything to write home about, they were cold in the center. I'd be back for the paneer tikka masala and would order plain naan next time as the garlic was a little burnt. Seems like a great little place for a quick lunch takeout. The staff was very kind and I appreciate the welcoming vibes. I will be back to try more dishes!

Araceli V.

Yelp
We placed a phone order and the server sounded very amicable and helpful. We ordered the Saag Shrimp, Chicken Tikka Masala, the Beef Samosa Appetizer. The food was delicious with generous serving portions. We also received a discount for Father's Day which I thought was very thoughtful and generous of them. We will definitely return!

Nicholas B.

Yelp
I ate here today for the first time because the office was getting food and I didn't have a choice. This was also the first time eating Pakistanian food since moving to New Orleans 9 years ago. This food today reminded me why I haven't had Pakistanian or Indian food here. ITS SCARY and just terrible. The Saag Paneer was mediocre but not terrible, but overly spicy. Like the spice and warming spices didnt have that nice balance that really great Saag Panner has. The most disappointing part of the meal was the naan bread. It wasn't even naan and it didn't even resemble what's advertised. It looked like day old frozen pizza crust. It was tough and chewy and dense. I have no clue what that was but it went in the garbage. I will never eat here again.

Anjali R.

Yelp
One of my go to places to order from. They always get the order right, the prices are cheap and the portions are large. I've never been there in person but I'd like to sometime.

Miranda E.

Yelp
I love the food from Shyans! I am addicted to their biryani and order it pretty much once a week. It's a problem!

Medley Z.

Yelp
I've been to a lot of Indian restaurants, this one is top of the line. The food was incredible and the people were so kind and nice! They went above and beyond. The place was also very clean, don't judge it by the outside. Absolutely fabulous food and experience. 10/10 would recommend!

Michelle N.

Yelp
I'm newly vegan and had the great fortune to have found Shyan's Kitchen in a google search while looking for something to eat in Metairie where I'm not as familiar with options in this part of town. Food was fresh and delicious, and staff was friendly and provided excellent service. I ordered vegetable pakora appetizer (onions and potato) and a falafel wrap. They make their naan in house. There were many vegetarian and vegan options on their menu. Prices were reasonable and I will definitely return!

Mona H.

Yelp
Delicioussss! Went with friends, we all ordered different things and shared. Ask what's spicy to check if you don't like spicy. I will definitely be going back tho

Vic W.

Yelp
My wife and I love coming to this place. The food is super rich and delicious. We've been coming for quite a while and have not gotten half way through their long menu. Everything we have tried was always amazing. I'm in love with their saag paneer. 10/10 everytime. It's always the same waiter and he's super nice!

John B.

Yelp
The search for Indian in NOLA led me to this outpost in the surrounding suburbia, which probably exceeds anything I've found in Orleans Parish. They have a small, brightly painted dining room and a fairly vigorous takeout business as well, bringing a North Indian/Pakistani menu to the masses. Only on weekends do they offer a samosa chaat, which means your potatoes in fried dough come drowned in chickpeas with an array of garnishes. The one I ordered was suitably complex. The lentils I ordered were solid; not particularly spicy (nor did I ask for heat on this occasion), but the cumin seeds and onions in which they were fried came through nicely. If the Peshwari naan had the cashews the menu promised, they were finely ground enough that I saw no trace of them, but it was nonetheless one of the fluffier Indian breads I've had, and the raisins and rosewater were definitely there and provided a nice contrast in flavor. They had plenty of decent vegetarian options. I might sooner return for takeout with my schedule, but when dining in I certainly got enough of a warm welcome to recommend it.

Brie W.

Yelp
Not much to say other than this place is DELICIOUS! And easily addicting, lol. I enjoy their samosas often *chefs kiss* The portions and flavors of their food are great! And the staff is AMAZING! They have a consistent customer in me.

Stephanie H.

Yelp
We decided on Indian takeout tonight and we chose Shyan's in Metairie! The ordering process was quick and easy! We tried the beef biryani (yum! Lots of flavor and meat!), goat curry w/ potatoes & cauliflower (we ordered it spicy and it was perfect!), chicken tikka masala (classic & consistent in flavors), and side of garlic naan (puffy and flavorful!). Everything was great and definitely hit the spot and satisfied our Indian food cravings! Make sure to order it spicy if you like your food with an extra kick! The curries has great flavors and was not super thin and watered down. They also give you a good amount of rice as well! Can't wait to go back and try the other items they have on the menu!

Cici L.

Yelp
Delicious food, very friendly people. I'm sad I moved to Indiana and this place isn't here. I will make it back when I visit Metairie again.

Eureeka S.

Yelp
I'm updating my review to say that this is officially my favorite Indian/Pakistani restaurant in the Greater New Orleans region. In addition to what I mentioned in my last review, their Saag Paneer is the best I have EVER had. Ever. I am hopelessly addicted to their Ginger Naan, & their Paneer Tikka Masala is tasty, too. Come to think of it, everything I've tried on the menu has absolutely been worth my time & money. The only thing that saddens me is that they don't have Papadum. That won't stop me from patronizing Shyan's Kitchen, though.

Marilyn D.

Yelp
Best Indian curry I have ever try. The only thing I didn't like about the place is they charge you credit card fee if you paid with credit card.

Vit T.

Yelp
From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with a warm welcome and smile from the gentleman and lady. Just from that very moment we knew we would love it here even before sitting down. My wife immediately told me how amazing the aromas were in the entire restaurant. We ordered the Vegetable Samosas; Ginger Naan; Chicken Karahi; Chicken Tikka Masala and Saag Paneer. All of the items arrived piping hot and looked and smelled incredible. We have never had ginger naan before and what a treat!!! It was bursting with generous amounts of fresh ginger and cilantro. We loved each dish and our favorite was the Saag Paneer! I highly recommend coming to Shyan's Indian & Pakistani Cuisine for the outstanding service and phenomenal food, we can't wait to come back soon!!!

Jane B.

Yelp
Read good reviews, missed the Indian food buffets in Portland, so tried Shyan's. Ordered take out because of the pandemic, somewhat expensive. There was lots of SAUCE, not very spicy, dipping sauce, entree sauce... where are the veggies and the meat?? Maybe they ran out. The samosas were good! Not returning.

Ray R.

Yelp
Great service and food. Yesterday was the first time I visited SK. The server was attentive and the food was hot and tasty. For my dinner, I enjoyed extra spicy Daal Fry with rice. Good work to all who were part of my experience last night. I will be back to enjoy your restaurant again.

Carla S.

Yelp
Mannn... I'm mad I didn't get a picture of my food beforehand. It was so damn good. I killed that damn meal. This was my first time trying Indian style curry and I am in absolute awe. This food came from God. Like I just know it. It was that Good! I even stole my boyfriends plate. I had the curry chicken bone in with the cheese naan and garlic naan. Then I ordered extra cheese naan on the way out.

Justin B.

Yelp
Shyan's never disappoints! Food is amazing, staff is friendly, and they just got new booths!

Alexander W.

Yelp
Chicken Tika Masala was great. Asked for it to be spicy and it was at a nice level. Flavorful and rich yet not too heavy, comes with a plate of rice or naan Garlic naan is very good as is the ginger naan if you like ginger. The ginger naan is able to maintain its taste even when dipped into the tika masala sauce

Victoria F.

Yelp
Excellent Indian food. Had the Chicken Ticca Masala and my dinner partner, who grew up in India, said it was really good. We both enjoyed.

Toni K.

Yelp
I love their food and they are very nice! The okra. Bhindi masala, is one of my favorites but I've tried several menu items. All good.

Luis S.

Yelp
Good flavors. Good service. Spinach palak delish. Don't get the goat. Not much goat in the sauce.

Camila A.

Yelp
This place had a small wait but DEFINITELY worth it, it's not super fancy so casual attire is definitely acceptable. My meal and my boyfriends meal were probably the best Indian food we've ever tried.the vegetarian selection on the menu was a pretty good variety, as well as the portions!! They have good prices because it's also the cheapest Indian restaurant I've tried! I high recommend for this place not only because they have a well rounded restaurant but also because they offer great service! They've earned every star. Now I've added my dish as well as my boyfriends. We ate half of our food before remembering to take a picture to show you guys how cute the table wear is! And how colorful the food was!!

Marty A.

Yelp
Well... Not sure what to say... It was... good... But... just, good... a step above ok. When I look for Indo-pak cuisine, I'm looking for the SPICE, the YUM, the... well... I don't know... You know, that amazing yummy spicy curry wonderland in your mouth sort of feeling that all is right with the world. But... this wasn't that. But... it was good. * don't get me wrong... I'll go back and try it again...*

Gary W.

Yelp
Friendly staff and nice environment. Good food and that is priced good. I asked for a modification to the menu, Chicken Vindaloo and they happily made it.

Jasmine C.

Yelp
Shyan's Kitchen in Metairie is my FAVORITE hidden gem when it comes to Pakistani food. Every dish I've tried here is magical and packed with tons of flavor and spice. My favorite dish is the Paneer Tikka Masala [Spicy] with naan. I decided to branch out last night and try the Goat Curry [Spicy] & it was so amazing. The Goat Biryani is banging too! They have plenty of vegetarian options too! The atmosphere is casual and family friendly. I've been with my father and son too. The staff is quite friendly and helpful. They will help you and answer any questions you have. If you love flavorful, well spiced food, in a comfortable place you definitely need to go to Shyan's!

Cindy H.

Yelp
This is my second visit. I had the Aboo Gobi the first time- delicious! Today I'm having Vegetarian Daal. Delicious also. My husband had the Aboo Gobi with goat. Both came with either rice or naan. We enjoyed our choices. Waitress was very helpful and service was great.

Dana P.

Yelp
I came here with a friend for lunch on Sunday. They are located in the corner of a very small strip mall on Houma near East Jefferson Hospital. When you walk in, it's a very small room. They have about 3 booths and 6 small tables. It's a little bit of a tight fit. Their menu is very large. It took us some time to really look it over. We both decided on the Chicken Tikka Masala. You get a choice of Basmati Rice or Naan as your side. (We chose the rice.) We also ordered the Vegetable Samosas and Roti. The Vegetable Samosas came out first (2). They were alright. I prefer when Vegetable Samosas have Carrots, Peas and Potatoes in them. These only had Potatoes and hot spices. The Roti was very good. The Chicken Tikka Masala was excellent. It had a lot of good quality Chicken pieces. The sides of Basmati Rice we received were large portions. We had plenty of leftovers for another meal. A nice option if you're in the area craving Indian/Pakistani.
