We’ve been loyal customers of Siam Spicy for years, regularly ordering takeaway and enjoying the food. Our New Year’s Eve experience was appalling and highlights dodgy practices that dishonour hospitality.
We booked a table for 6 pm three weeks in advance. Two hours before, the restaurant called with an ultimatum: arrive at 5 pm or accept a one-hour limit. We declined and confirmed our original booking. When we arrived we were told, without apology, that our booking had been cancelled because we didn’t agree to the change. They let us turn up knowing this, with no communication, explanation, or assistance, leaving us without dinner on one of the busiest nights of the year.
This restaurant clearly overbooks and expects guests to work around their poor practices, taking no responsibility and showing no respect for loyal customers. When we said we’d never return, they were dismissive. Based on other reviews, this seems to be standard behaviour. Dodgy practices like this are what ruin hospitality in Melbourne.
If Siam Spicy wishes to regain trust, they should stop overbooking, clearly state time limits at booking, and honour confirmed reservations. Respect and transparency are the foundation of good hospitality.
