The Boston Area’s Best Takeout and Delivery of 2021 | Eater Boston

"If you talk to any Medford resident about food for more than a few seconds, Chilli Garden is sure to come up. Everything’s good, but the restaurant really shines in the Sichuan arena. Try the Sichuan-style pork dumplings and house special chicken with dry pepper. Locals who have been here longer than me tell me that the fresh green peppercorn dishes are a must as well. —Rachel Leah Blumenthal" - Nathan Tavares

The Best Restaurants in Medford | Eater Boston

"Order from Chilli Garden’s Sichuan menu, which includes classics such as dan dan noodles, ma po tofu, eggplant in garlic sauce, and dry chicken with peppers. Also worth a try: the catfish and pig intestines with mixed vegetables in spicy sauce." - Terrence Doyle

I absolutely love this place. Everything was just delicious. We ended up getting a number of plates and just shared everything. There wasn't a single dish we tried that I didn't care for. Both food and drinks were top notch. As we were eating, I was already making plans for what I would try next time I come here. The atmosphere was super chill. The staff was very friendly and accommodating to our very large group that ended up needing to be split into a large group and a smaller group. Highly recommend!

Google
It has whole Peking duck for $88. Pretty authentic Chinese food.

Dinner was okay, cumin fish was salty , but the server was a bit grumpy. And the most disgusting part was rats were roaming around while we were having dinner tonight! Sichuan Garden needs to do something about the rat problem right away. It’s not only gross, but it’s also concerning about the hygiene in the kitchen.

Google
Overall really solid restaurant, with good food and pretty fun atmosphere. Couple different bar areas went upstairs and one down. Table service was a little slower than I would personally prefer, but overall solid. Cocktails are top notch!!!! Fantastic presentation on the drinks and absolutely delicious on top of that. Even if you're not hungry, would recommend stopping in for drinks!

Google
Absolutely love this place! I always go with a larger group and get a bunch of items to share. The Sichuan chicken wings and cucumber salad are absolute must gets, I crave these on the regular. I have never had a bad dish here and the ambience is incredible. Highly recommend the upstairs bar area or the tiki first floor area, but the whole place is great. The cocktails are outstanding and if you are a pair, the cocktails for two are visually stunning and amazing. The cocktail program here beats any other program in Boston by a landslide.

I’ve supported Sichuan Garden for years. The gentleman who often helps me is a class act — respectful, professional, and warm. Unfortunately, the hostess on this particular night made it abundantly clear that not every guest is treated equally. I came in alone for dinner and was told there were no tables and I’d have to wait an hour — on a Wednesday night. That’s never been the case. But I left without complaint and placed a takeout order. When I returned just 15 minutes later, I watched two women walk in after me and get seated immediately. I calmly asked the hostess what happened — and that’s when the excuses began. First, she claimed she thought I was part of a party of five. Then, realizing how weak that sounded, she changed her story and said there was a party of five who no longer needed the table. So… which lie is the truth? Let’s be real: this wasn’t a mix-up. This was dismissal. Worse than the excuses was how she handled it. I stood there, clearly trying to speak with her. She knew I wanted to talk — and made the choice to ignore me. Not once. Not twice. It wasn’t until the kind male server flagged her down that she finally acknowledged me. And how did she greet me? “What’s up?” That’s not customer service — that’s contempt dressed up as casual. I asked, calmly, why I had been passed over. Her response? She rolled her eyes, muttered “There’s no drama,” and walked away from me while I was still speaking. That wasn’t miscommunication. That was intentional. She made it clear with every gesture, every dismissive glance, and every fake excuse that I wasn’t worth her time. That who I am didn’t matter. That my presence was inconvenient. And let’s not pretend this was just a “bad night” or “a misunderstanding.” It’s always telling when someone puts more energy into deflecting blame than simply doing the right thing. Her actions spoke louder than anything she said — and what they said was: you don’t belong here. This wasn’t just about a table. This was about dignity. And she made sure I left without any. If management is paying attention — the issue isn’t your food, it’s the face you’ve chosen to put at the front of your business. And if she’s reading this: the next time you feel the need to say “there’s no drama,” maybe ask yourself why someone would feel there is. Because when you treat someone like they’re invisible, that is the drama. Do better.

Aweful food! Not edible at all. Too too too salty and has an after taste. Spoke to the waiter. We just paid the bill but didn't eat any of the two dishes. Chengdu dry chicken was just too salty to the point that one can't eat it all. Same with the brisket dish. Hot and sour soup was too too sour. They probably just heat up leftovers and serve. Nothing tasted fresh. Skip this place and go for a better restaurant. Pricey, low quality and inedible food.

Google
This place was hit & miss didn’t know how to really describe it. The food was ok, honestly the wings were prob the only thing I really enjoyed as well as the scallion pancakes. The Kung Pao chicken wasn’t really all that great, sauce overpowered the dish after a couple bites it just got overwhelming to the point I didn’t really enjoy nor did I finish it. The drinks were not bad the cenote sling was great & was prob. One of the best drinks I’ve had. The mating dance was ok just didn’t do it for tasted more like soda pop than anything. Overall this place is a little pricey for what it is, I would recommend just getting some appetizers & drinks as those were their best options specially the wings & cocktails.

Yelp
Sichuan Garden has repurposed the use of the historic yellow Bradford House. I was looking to check out the oldest building in Wolburn and found it has become a Chinese restaurant. Being on the list of National Register of Historic Places, the restaurant appears to be respectful of the historic nature of the site. Each small room became a dining room of 4-5 tables with bad acoustics on one side of the house, while the Bradford Bar occupies the other side of the host stand. Sadly, I found the food to be less desirable and disappointing. The lunch specials were a bit expensive at $17.95. None of the menu items sounded appetizing nor appealing. I decided to order their House Special lo mein on their regular menu. The combination of pork, chicken, and shrimp were all diced so fine that it was basically lo mein. The dish was overly sauced and very salty. Not sure if this style is to the Chinese-American taste of the locals, but it was certainly not to my liking. I could not recommend this place if you are searching for real Chinese food.

Yelp
Absolutely a terrible experience! Everything went well until our host decided to insult us for apparently not leaving a "great tip". Racial Bias pretty evident too! While processing the payment we asked if they "would mind clicking a picture". At first they were fine with it but once they saw the tip in the POS terminal they replied- "I do mind actually and stomped off". To this brash person, hospitality, courtesy and basic respect towards a customer comes with a condition- Tip Me Well! Tipping culture is certainly going out of hand with obnoxious individuals like this that have a deep sense of entitlement and normalize insult over a tip! Visit this place if you are willing to tip upwards of 25%, or prepare to be insulted.

Yelp
While the interior is very cool, the food I ordered was not great. On top of being subpar food, it took almost an hour to get to us. I don't remember the last time I waited that long... I had high expectations based on word of mouth but the dishes I had were average and honestly the wait was not worth it. Plus high prices. Probably other dishes are better but the ones I got were just ok. Don't know if I'll be back...

Yelp
Always drive by here when in town and been wanting to try it. So one night I did and wow what a disappointing dinner. Where to begin. First it's in a mansion, which is pretty neat. The building outside is nice. Inside it's old, some fish tanks around to look at and very very dark inside. I supposed the day would be brighter but I had to come in the evening. The food was expensive on the menu so we went with American comfort food. Mistake. A bit cheaper but not that great food for the price. We had sesame chicken, which was good but they didn't give much at all. Then vegetable rice and crab Rangoon. Honestly, the crab Rangoon tasted like it came from the frozen section at star market. That's how plain it was. The rice was good, but not the best I've had. We waited at least 40 minutes for the food. Why? It wasn't that busy. There was a loud group behind us of 7 maybe, but they had their food. I guess the waiter wanted to please them for a big tip so he kept going over with drinks. Then we waited about 30 minutes for them to collect the empty plates and get a check. We were bored waiting for the food. Bored waiting for the check. You just wait and pay a lot. Wish I had my novel with me but didn't know I would need it. I would not come back anytime soon. They do have a bar with lots of drinks so that may make up for the lousy food and long wait time. The waitstaff are nice, and the restaurant is clean. When the party at a table near us left, they spayed the table with a cleaner that was so strong I was almost sick from the fumes. Good thing the fumes went away before my food came. So waiting a long time for food arrival I guess was helpful here. Who knew! And there are two levels but I was on the first floor, next to the bar. The noise level was very loud. I wish I had my ear plugs. That would have been a relief!

Yelp
2 stars is generous, the service was blah and the food was awful. The restaurant is in an old house. The acoustics are awful. Another couple sat on the other side of the dining room and their voices drowned out our conversation. The floors and bathroom were dirty. It's obvious that they are lazy with cleaning, I'm afraid of what's going on in the kitchen. The food is not authentic Sichuan. The Dan Dan noodles and Sichuan chili wontons were simply awful and our entree was so salty that we couldn't eat it. We left hungry. The server processed the bill at our table and the lowest suggested tip amount was 20%. He stared at me while I pressed the tip button. Sichuan Gourmet in Burlington is 1000 times better

Yelp
Always one of my favorite places to visit when I'm in the Boston area. Great staff. Incredibly knowledgeable with their drinks and usually remembers older recipes they had in the past. Atmosphere is top tier. Not too loud. Everyone is always in a great mood. This is the best bar in New England.

Yelp
This was another excellent local spot I visited during a work trip to the area. If you like spicy food and sweet drinks, it's definitely a worthy visit! Visited with my colleagues (group was 6 people) and, since it was a pleasant evening, decided to dine outside. The dining area was clean and attractively appointed, and we enjoyed the chill ambiance. Their mixed drink menu was creative and lengthy, and while I do not recall exactly what I had, it's hard to go wrong with so many solid options. Our food was excellent, and while our server was nice, they did not make callbacks too often. This can present a greater challenge with spicy foods, since drink refills are a must. Regardless, I soldiered along with the drinks I had on hand and it was still a pleasant experience. Prices were pretty average for what you get. I would definitely recommend Sichuan Garden if spicy is your deal, just load up on drinks while you have your server's attention! Overall: 4.0 stars --- Pros: - Fantastic spicy foods, you'll leave full (and hot!) - Great drink menu, creative without being overly fancy. - Nice outdoor ambiance. - Servers are pleasant... Cons: -...when you can find them, as they don't stop by as often as you might like. - Parking is a bit scrunchy in their private gravel lot if you visit at peak hours.

Yelp
Stopped here after a visit to Treehouse brewery. Everything was fantastic! Tried some signature cocktails, everyone in our party was impressed. We ate Peking duck, dandan noodles, brisket, szeschuan chicken, green beans, bacon and leeks. So good. Took advice from our server on what to eat and his advice was spot on. Highly recommend!!
google avatar

Yelp
Based on experience from many years ago - the dishes tend to have the same flavors around and around - everything comes out a bit brown-ish. This used to be the go-to Szechuan restaurant in the area and maintained a huge reputation. However other Szechuan restaurants have enlivened the scene and upped the ante. The bar is stellar though, and unique. Definitely note the architecture - it's a cool house and they've done nicely to utilize the space wisely!

Yelp
Love to swing by here when in the area! The food is delicious and the customer service is great, as the waiters know the menu so well. Love the ambiance and decor. Parking lot in the back is a plus.

Yelp
We got a reservation on a Friday night for the Baldwin & Sons Trading Co. bar, which we'd half expected to be cancelled due to a winter storm, but turns out that they were still open and had a plowed parking lot. Everything was fantastic, including the service and food. We parked, checked in out front, and were led upstairs to a table in the bar. It looks kind of like one of those old social clubs, and had a nice ambience. We started with a flip fantasia cocktail and a avenue of the giants cocktail. The flip fantasia was the suggestion for something a bit different and it delivered on that. It's very peanuty, and is roughly the drink I'd expect if you asked someone to making a swimming rama cocktail, but in a good way. The avenue of the giants cocktail was earthy and made with the Suntory Roku gin. It was well balanced with the rest of the ingredients. The betty draper cocktail was very tart, also had gin, but tanqueray 10 in it. Also a nicely balanced cocktail. For appetizers, we ordered the cucumber with garlic sauce and the scallion pancakes. I was expecting the cucumber to be spiral cut instead of chopped, but it tasted like I'd expected (slightly spicy and fresh), and frankly is easier to eat than the other way. The scallion pancakes were very fresh and tasted like they'd just been made from scratch. For the main dishes, we ordered the Chong Qing Dry Hot Chicken and the Sesame Chicken, with a side of rice and vegetable lo mein noodles. The dry hot chicken was crisp and tasted fresh. It had plenty of both numbing pepper and regular pepper. It tasted pretty typical for this dish. The sesame chicken tasted like the typical American-Chinese dish and was also fresh and flavorful without being too sweet. The lo mein noodles tasted great, with a slightly smoky flavor that you'd expect out of being cooled at a really high temperature. All in all, cocktails, food and service were great. We'll definitely be back.

Yelp
I've been coming here for years. Everything seems to be slipping and after today, I won't be going back unless I'm going upstairs for drinks only. I ordered some takeout and the man on the phone got super pushy and asked me to tip him on top of the takeout charge. It made me super uncomfortable. When I told him okay and offered a tip he audibly doubled what I said and asked if the amount he suggested was what I actually wanted to tip. That's some next level gall. I ordered Dan Dan noodles, pork ravioli, and some fried rice. I was hoping to eat some of this in the car between appointments for work and bring the rest home for my fam but they didn't give me chopsticks or anything. So I couldn't eat it. Then when I finally got home, the ravioli and the noodles were so oversalted. Like someone had knocked the salt or oyster bottle over into the wok when they were cooking it. It was inedible. And of course, they got my order wrong. I ordered fried rice and they gave me Lo mein. So very disappointed. With the economy the way it is, people really think twice about where they want to spend their hard earned money. Choose wisely. I didn't today and now I'm annoyed that I just wasted $45. A frozen Trader Joe's meal would have been better and a fraction of the cost.

Yelp
Pro's -- the cocktails, food and atmosphere are a very unique take, and would give the restaurant 4 stars (at least) if this was the only criteria. Con's -- the staff and service. There's an arrogance and rudeness here, and it seems systemic. Without going into details. I would give the place 1-2 stars in this category. If you haven't tried it, I still would recommend giving it a try. It's not cheap. And some items are more of a miss than a hit. My favorites were: 1) the Beachcomber Mai Tai (much better pour than the Trader Vic's Mai) and 2) the chicken wings with spicy sauce, which were fantastic.

Yelp
I used to really love Sichuan Garden in Brooklline, and perphaps it's still good, but I decided to go the the one in Woburn instead tonight. Just plain awful, profoundly disappointing. Hot and sour soup was stale old gravy doctored with exces soy sauce - insulting. Sweet and pungent ribs tasted OK, but the meat was old and hard and chewy (not in a desirably chewy way). Pea pod stems were oily (I had asked for less oil), and only one sliver of garlic. What a drag, but as my Mom once said, "you'll eat again."
google avatar

Yelp
I used to love this place. This will be the last time I order from this place. I ordered two dry shredded beefs and hot pepper and it came to $49 and what I got barely any beef and all celery. When I took it back to the manager he said what do you want me to do, beef is expensive. Seriously?!? They lost a cust Never again! Take a trip to Burlington plenty of great Sichuan places there and you'll actually get some meat.

Yelp
Walked in for lunch around 1pm and was greeted by dirty looks and "why are you here?" stares. I asked if I could sit at the bar and got a curt answer, "Not open until 5pm". I was seated in some dingy old dark room with uncensored rap music blaring (yes, must have been the host's favorite playlist!). At that point, I knew this wasn't going to be good. Immediately got up and left. Headed down the road about 2 miles and stopped at Peppercorn House for the best lunch experience ever. Stay far away from Sichuan!!!

Yelp
Beautiful place, delicious and non-experience dinner, and drinks were delicious. We explore the bar upstairs but we didn't stay, looking forward to come back.

Yelp
Make a reservation and sit in the downstairs bar area if you can. Awesome ambience. Crazy fancy high end cocktails paired with yummy Sichuan food. Try the cucumber appetizer and eggplant w spicy garlic sauce.

Will S.

Yelp
We arrived as the restaurant opened to be told by the front desk that we needed a reservation. They did let us have a table as long as we would leave within an hour. That was fine but the restaurant remained nearly empty the entire time we were there. It was an unpleasant experience. The quality of the dishes has gone downhill. Every dish was too salty. The smoky beef with chilis used to be more beef than chilis and now it's about 10% beef. The string beans with bamboo had 3 pieces of bamboo. We have been customers here for at least a decade. It's too bad but we will no longer give this place our business anymore.

Yelp
This place is unreal. Amazing craft cocktails with great ingredients. It felt like every sip was a punch of flavor. The food is fantastic as well. We got fried rice, lo mein, and tangerine chicken. No complaints on anything. Great appetizers as well. We were gifted free crab rangoons! The service was amazing and the covid response is superb. They are incredibly proactive and I love it. I felt comfortable. It feels like a home inside. You need to see this .

Yelp
I've been here many times and always rave about the food, but never ordered take-out. What a disappointment, really horrible, and embarrassing, as I brought it to a friend's house. Dishes I've ordered before were inedible (thrown in the trash). Chicken with garlic sauce was swimming in a deep oil slick and tasted fishy. House special eggplant was oily mush. Maybe it's because I ordered in an off hour (3pm on a weekday)--did the dishwasher fill in for the cook on a mid-day break?

Yelp
My niece and her husband raved about this place - not just the food but the great drinks. We had a Sunday night reservation for a table in the bar downstairs and got busy ordering some tropical drinks upon our arrival. The mai tai was excellent - very authentic! I had two. Everyone loved their cocktails. We started with some garlic peppers - they were supposed to be mild but I guess some hot ones sneak in and so we had a few surprise bombs in the batch. Some liked them others thought they were just OK. The Dan Dan noodle starter was very good (and salty). We shared three main dishes the Sichuan flavored dry chicken (everyone liked this one best), the eggplant with a great sauce that I cannot remember, and finally a tofu dish (least favorite of the three). The waiter was beyond friendly, attentive and helpful. I can see why our hosts love this place.
google avatar

Fang Z.

Yelp
Just take a look at all the recent negative reviews then you can get a general and objective consensus: - Used to be good and food was prepared with heart - Now is just money grabbing with bar business - Food downgraded exponentially - Waitressing are 'rude, arrogant, and inattentive' (quoted) - Lost a lot of old patrons If you are interested in bars and just so so Chinese food, then fine. But if you are interested in real Chinese food with decent experience, stay away.

Yelp
I love this place! Be warned that you really should make a reservation if you want to sit at either of the bars (versus the restaurant tables). I've been to the downstairs bar 4 times or so. The drinks are inventive and the bartenders are top notch and friendly. Last week, I was able to get my first reservation at the upstairs bar and was super excited to check it out. 1 minute from the restaurant, I got a flat tire on 95 and my friend came to help me fix it. I called Baldwin Bar and they held my reservation even though we were 20+ minutes late on a Thursday. I really appreciated that! The upstairs bar drinks seem more fancy. I got the award-winner Father's Advice and the Encyclopedia Brown of the day. Both drinks were amazing, well-crafted, smooth and fun to look at. For food, I got the garlic shrimp and had no complaints (though it was spicy af, I'm not complaining! ha). I'm thinking about trying to arrange a get-together here as I love the food, drinks and the space. Will be bringing more folks out to Woburn for this for sure!

Yelp
Much over priced but poor food. not genuine Sichuan food at all. Maybe for Americans, not for Chinese. The waiter is very rude
google avatar

Yelp
Good service and delicious food. They have indoor and outdoor dining. Their parking lot can get full but that is a good sign. If it is is after hours there is an office park right across the street with ample parking.

Yelp
The food was terrible , the service was horrible ... Wouldn't recommend this place to anyone wanting good Asian food! It took 45 minutes for me to get my entree while the rest of the table got their meals ahead of time... When the entree finally arrived it was a few slivers of chicken !! The worst meal I got for $50! Even the food court food is better !
google avatar

Sheena N.

Yelp
Love this place! I was staying in Burlington for work and my coworker suggested we check this place out (it was on eaters mag). At first I was pretty skeptical because he's not asian and I was weary of the fact that this place also is a well known bar. However, I was pleasantly surprised. I've been here twice so far and sat at the bar. Both times we had a great experience, great bartenders and vibe. Keep in mind that the upstairs bars is only open thurs-sun and it is recommended to make reservations online at least a day ahead of time. For same day reservations, you should call in. Here's what I've tried: Chong Qing Dry Hot Chicken (5/5): One of the best things on the menu, you NEED to get this. Deep fried seasoned chicken with peppers, really tasty and goes well with the fried rice. Chengdu Chicken Wings (5/5) - AMAZING. Might seem like chicken overload to order wings as appetizer and the chongqing hot chicken as an entree but trust me its not. This comes with a spicy dipping sauce that is so freakin delicious. Love how crispy the wings are too Pea pods with garlic (4/5) - You don't see this on the menu everywhere. Its a really light vegetable. Braised beef with napa cabbage (2/5) - Not very good, it was a little too soupy (way too much sauce) and the beef itself was really chewy and overcooked. Also lacked flavor, would not order again Sichuan dumplings (4/5) - the sauce that this comes with is really tasty and the dumplings themselves are flavorful. The only thing I would change is the fact that they are a bit heavy on the wrapper to filling ratio. Could use more pork filling. House special fried rice (4/5) - Not spectacular but still really good Aqua Fresca (5/5) - Really refreshing, not sweet type of drink. Love how the line the rim with cayenne to give it some kick

Alex J.

Yelp
Amazing. Sichuan Garden does an amazing job of blending the conventional (Sichuan garden) with a new-age, cutting edge hipster gastronomique vibe (the bar downstairs and the Baldwin Trading Co upstairs). I would recommend this place to anyone that likes Asian food and great drinks. The menu includes both authentic and American-Chinese options. I can't stress enough- the cocktail experience at the bar upstairs is literally one of a kind. Drinks are not cheap... but still a great value. :-)

Bourbon M.

Yelp
I ordered general Tao's, chicken lo Meir and tofu fish dish. I only ordered from here as the greasy hole in the wall Chinese place was closed on a Monday. I can say that the bill was almost double and the food wasn't as good. The general Tao's was the worst of the three. It had a tomato taste to it and wasn't as sweet as you would typically expect. The other two were ok, but given the higher pricing you would think this was better quality. Stick to your local hole in the wall for take out. Can't speak to the tiki cocktails but I would not recommend the food. In short there are two kinds of good Chinese food - authentic and greasy American style take out. This is neither, at best it is bad takeout...

Yelp
Maybe we were hungry, every dishes smells great and tastes awesome. From my view as a visitor from China, their menu selected up to date popular dishes of Sichuan, and is broad enough as a Chinese restaurant outside China.

Yelp
Okay, so this used-to-be-an-old-mansion-now-Chinese-restaurant-slash-acclaimed-bar was recommended by a friend, more so for drinks than anything. We got here on a late Saturday afternoon. I honestly didn't even notice a sign indicating a restaurant outside of what appears to be a historical building, one that you'd find in a quaint NE town like Concord or Lexington. But we walk in the front door, and see two male "hostesses" at what looks like a hotel front desk concierge. We ask if there's seating at the bar, to our immediate right, which from the outside appears to be this dimly-lit, hazy gold wallpapered room with a square bar + stools in the middle. No, there's no seats. We must sit in a regular dining room. So up the creaky old carpeted stairs we go to the 2nd floor, a party of 4, and are seated in this old dining room with navy-blue painted walls and an electric heating system panel that is falling off the radiator (and clearly needs repair). The tables are lined with white linen, there's two round tables and literally 1 of them has a plastic foldable chair that you buy at Costco. It's eerily quiet, cold, and barren-feeling. The Chinese waiter takes our order of two drinks, fried rice, and vegetarian dumplings. Food was pretty mediocre, and the drinks were surprisingly as well according to my friends. Perhaps it'd better serve you to sit at the actual bar when you come here, since this was mostly just an out-of-place, incompatible Victorian mansion meets China (???) experience.

Yelp
This was absolutely incredible. Everything was delicious and the server gave us some phenomenal recommendations. Definitely try the wen jun chicken. Every drink was also beautiful. So so amazing and couldn't recommend this place more!

Yelp
The food here was ok. Not a bad place for a quick lunch bite. Ordered off of the lunch menu and the food came out pretty quick. There was more rice than anything else so I felt pretty like I ordered fried rice with a side of entree. Maybe I'll try checking out dinner service and updating this review someday or maybe not. Happy Hunting Yelpers!!!

Yelp
This place was recommended to me by my girlfriend's older sister. From the outside, you may reconsider coming here, but don't judge a book by its cover. The food here is top notch. The spice levels are good (spicy but numbing spice in a good way). They give you generous portions. The drinks are top notch too. Love the cocktails here. Will definitely come back here. I am sad to hear the Brookline location closed down since that place is closer to me than Woburn. Def want to come here with a decent size group so i can order more food! Fave dish - spicy dry beef with chinese celery!

Yelp
Veggie Fried Rice: (A-) At first appearance it looks like plain rice with carrots, pea pods, onions and egg but when you eat it, it tastes similar to fried rice. Looks like they found a way to pull in the same fried rice flavor without using soy sauce or being overly greasy. Chengdu Green Beans: (A-) The beans have flavor and they're perfectly prepared but might consider making this at home in the future as the price point is $12 for a portion good for only 2 people. Crab Rangoons: (B) The breading is a tad too thick for my liking and there's essentially no crab--mostly a thinned out cream cheese texture. I would still eat 1 or 2 but not my favorite thing from here. Scallion Pancakes: (B+) Tastes just as they should, would love more actual scallions in them. More of the flavor but less ingredient which is disappointing. Chicken Fingers: (B) A LOT OF BATTER. If they coated them in half the thickness they would be perfect. Otherwise they're greasy and thick. Veggie Lo-Mein: (B) Edible, decent flavor, but on the dryer side and lacking a punch of mixed veggies, few tiny pieces here and there but not nearly enough to call this a veggie noodle dish.

Yelp
Unbelievably good drinks at just the normally expensive cocktail pricing. Actually really good food as well. The eggplant was oily but tasty and when soaked with rice terrific

Yelp
Extremely awful experience! I'd prefer to give NO STAR to the restaurant. The guy in the front desk was f rude and showed no care to us. The guy couldn't even find our orders upon arrival. When we picked up our stuff from the person, he showed no apology to either his negligence or rudeness. We then called the phone number, and the owner picked up. His attitude was even more arrogant "we are busy, if you already got the food just forget about it" WTF was that?! If you want to have a wonderful dinner in any occasions, do not pick this restaurant!

Yelp
Great place! Prettiest drink I ever ordered at a restaurant. Love the building, well worth the visit for this tourist just for that. Prices are reasonable especially considering the area (except the drinks, the drinks are expensive yet strong). The portions are generous so be ready for leftovers. Had the twice baked fish. No sauce but still spicy. If you're in the mood for seafood then go for it. Also tried the cold sesame noodles. Another spicy dish with a lot of flavor but a little too much ginger and garlic? For my taste. Probably the best place I visited while in town for the week. If you want anything better you'll have to go to Boston.

Yelp
This place was fun and the cocktails were incredible just to look at! We were seated upstairs in the intimate and beautiful dining room. We went during peak dinner so the servers were busy, but we didn't have to wait too long. We shared a table with another group. The food was good, although a bit salty. I recommend the Eggplant dish over rice. It was definitely an Americanized place, but I enjoyed the atmosphere and the architecture is great to look at.

Yelp
This place is a favorite of my girl and I. The drinks, food and staff are beyond amazing. They have a nice outdoor section with picnic tables and an upstairs and downstairs. Best to get a reservation but they do take walk ins as well. They have the American version of Chinese but also some Sichuan dishes and appetizers that are amazing. The Dan Dan noodles and eggplant dishes are a favorite. Highly recommend that you check this place out. Great management as well and we are always treated great!

Yelp
Baldwin Bar is a hidden gem of the Suburbs! Came here with 4 people and because they don't do outdoor seating we were inside. They were very strict on Covid guidelines, mask on at all times even when a server came over to your table. The tables inside were very spread out and it felt clean and safe. The drinks are out of this world! You literally can't go wrong with any drink on the menu. We sampled 6 or 7 different ones between all of us and we were so impressed by each one. It's a true form of art and your tastebuds will be delighted. The food was also excellent. The chicken wings are the best I've ever had. I would've been fine with just ordering those for my meal too. I will dream of them tonight. Their menu is specific to the Baldwin Bar and its mostly noodle or rice dishes. We got the hot beef, eggplant, pork and chicken dish. The hot beef and chicken stood out. I will be back!

Yelp
I love this place, I'm surprised at how many bad reviews. The girlfriend and I always have a great time coming and can't wait to return. Their is an award winning mixologist who has a part in the business and the food is very full of flavor.

Yelp
People say this is legit sichuan--i wouldn't know but I am addicted to this place. I love the chengdu both wings and dinner style, the brisket, both dry rub and the cellophane bao version. probably my favorite is the house seafood cellophane bao. I've taken people here for lunch and that menu just doesn't do the place justice it is much more "typical chinese" so I recommend sticking to the dinner menu. I've only been once while having a cocktail and it was AMAZING - it had sesame in it which was very unique.

Yelp
My first thought after being seated was ICK! The rooms are too dimly lit, the tables had a spongey feel to them, not dirty but almost like a softness to the top that you could scratch away with your finger nail. We ordered lunch specials. My friend had Tangerine Chicken with hot and sour soup, spring roll and veg. fried rice. I ordered the Chicken and shrimp in garlic chili sauce with hot and sour soup, chicken wing, and veg. fried rice. The soup came first, my favorite Chinese soup. This version was hideous. Thick as wall paper paste lacking in pork and scant amounts of tofu. It was spicy but it was really dark like thick soy sauce was a chief component not a good stock. Total disappointment. Our entrees arrived and our rice was stone cold. We asked for a reheating of mine and my GF got a new serving. She loves Chinese food and her dish was horrible. The chicken pieces were very dark and the flavor overcame the tangerine sauce making it just taste like sugar. Her spring roll was just okay she said. My dish was plentiful and the sauce was garlicky and spicy. My problem was the lack of chicken and the small, really small shrimp used in the dish. I would have expected more chicken and maybe four to five decently sized shrimp in the dish, I would have been fine with that. My chicken wing was very tasty. There were cleaning product on carts as you walked through the restaurant. I went there with high hopes from reccomendations from friend and was horribly disappointed. I think the best reviews come from the bar drinks not the food. No reason for a second visit.

Yelp
My friends and I came in for the lunch special during our work break, and this is such a cool place. It's in this centuries old mansion that predates the US and there are several dining tables in each room of the house. The top floor, where the bar is located, looks AMAZING. Entirely unlike any other restaurant atmosphere I've been in, and especially not that of a Chinese restaurant. But yes! The food!! We ordered the lunch specials (which are great, with fried rice, soup, two chicken wings, and an entree for $9.95) so we can't say much about the entire menu - to be updated when we go back to try it out, because it's a crime not to dine-in in a place like this. I got the twice-cooked pork, crispy and salty and fragrant in a way I fell in love with. The fried vegetable ride was really well-done, fluffy and flavorful, and even the chicken wings were fried really well. Definitely recommend dropping by, even if just because it looks so darn cool.

Yelp
I came here after eating at Blossom Bar, and the food quality holds up! I came for lunch so I was not able to try the bar, but I'm sure those are delicious too. This restaurant is located in an old mansion - you wouldn't expect it to be a Chinese restaurant, or for it to have a contemporary cocktail bar. I like the tropical look of the Blossom Bar restaurant more than the vintage look of this one, but the food that's going in your belly is just as good either way! TL;DR - quality, authentic Chinese food. Eat here.
