Sichuan Impression - Review - Alhambra - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"Though Sichuan Impression now has locations from Tustin to West LA, a visit to its original Alhambra space is a required pilgrimage. The warm, homey dining room has big tables and long wooden benches—making it a great spot for a communal dinner with family—and the Sichuan food is still among the best in the city. We love the meaty, succulent tea-smoked ribs, sinus-clearing mapo tofu, and cumin-laced toothpick lamb—a great dish for said communal dining. Also, don’t overlook the kung pao chicken: it’s sweet, not too salty, and will vanish within seconds of hitting the table." - Brant Cox

Its michelin rated for a reason! This is actually my second time visiting Sichuan Impression (I visited the Pasadena location during dineLA), and it impressed me just like the first time. The interior is sleek and upscale, along with beautiful presentation of the food. I tried the flaming pork jowl and spicy wok fried crab this time and really enjoyed them (especially the pork jowl, perfect for videos). The cold noodles and sweet potato balls were sleeper hits and perfect to contrast the numbing spice. Wonderful service, perfect for gatherings.

Came here to celebrate my best friend’s birthday — great choice! I’ve seen this place “Mu Jiang Zi” all over social media and finally tried it. We ordered a few new dishes, and everything was surprisingly good. The Matsusaka pork (snowflake pork neck) was super juicy and tender with a nice crispy bite. They even light it up with a small flame — very fun presentation! 🔥 Loved the plum-pickled cherry tomatoes, sweet and tangy, super refreshing. The braised duck was the highlight — crispy outside, tender and flavorful inside, and the portion was generous. Beef tongue stew was soft and tasty, just a bit small. The meat tofu soup had a rich mushroom broth, warm and comforting. The restaurant is founded by a team of Chengdu–Chongqing girls — many dishes are their own creations and even got a Michelin recommendation. Cozy space, clean, and beautifully plated food. Perfect for small celebrations or dinner with friends.

The 11th Anniversary Set Menu at Sichuan Impression is absolutely amazing! It comes with five full dishes — from appetizers to mains — easily enough for three people. The Mushroom Chicken Soup and Rice is unbelievably flavorful, and the Boiled Fish with Rattan Pepper has huge, tender chunks of fish. Even the cold noodles, which looked ordinary, disappeared in seconds! They have several anniversary set options, and you can check out the menu that our server kindly showed us. We also tried a new dish — Flaming Pork Jowl. The waiter shaved the aromatic root and flambéed the pork right at the table — total fine dining vibes and full of emotional satisfaction! And of course, their famous Signature Tea Smoked Duck is still as delicious as ever. You really have to admire how consistent this classic Sichuan restaurant stays, even with such a big anniversary discount. The anniversary menu is available from Nov 1 to Nov 11, so LA foodies, hurry up before it’s gone!

We came here at around 3pm for a late late lunch. Some of the lunch menu were not available. But there were still plenty of dishes to choose from. As with typical Shichuan cuisine, the flavors were off the chart. We loved everything we ordered except for the spicy won ton. We felt the sauce was not really authentic. Although the dish was tasty, there is room to improve. Other than that, we thoroughly enjoyed the meal. We will come back for the full lunch menu next time we are in town.

This was such a good dinner spot for my friends and I because the private room felt so elegant & allowed us to really enjoy the dinner experience. Service was spectacular from start to finish. We got really insightful introductions to each course and fun tidbits about why they chose specific ingredients and cooking styles to give a modern and healthier twist while reintroducing tradition Chinese food. Must tries that I recommend would be the slow cooked beef tongue in scallions and saffrons, their signature pork jowl, tea smoked pork ribs, braised duck (succulent and juicy with crisped skin). Other stand outs for me would be the beef tongue & crab roe fried rice as well as the taro balls & salted egg fries. Def worth a try!

Went here for dinner and had a great experience. Service was attentive and we were never left waiting on refills. Some of the items we had were the tea smoked pork ribs, sweet potato & taro balls and the flaming pork jowl. My favorites were the braised duck with crispy skin and the slow cooked beef tongue.

If you love authentic Sichuan flavor — the real “mala” (numbing and spicy) — this is absolutely the place to go! Every dish bursts with deep, complex flavor, from the boiled fish in chili oil to the cold mung bean jelly and smoked pork ribs. The peppercorn aroma hits first, then that satisfying tingle follows — just like in Chengdu. The atmosphere is bright, modern, and comfortable — perfect for both family dinners and gatherings with friends. The staff are friendly and efficient, and they’ll happily explain dishes or adjust spice levels if you ask. Prices are very reasonable for the quality. You can tell the chefs take pride in authentic preparation — not just “Americanized” Chinese food, but real regional Sichuan cuisine. If you enjoy bold, numbing, aromatic flavors and aren’t afraid of a little heat, you’ll fall in love with this restaurant. Easily one of the best Sichuan spots in Southern California!

Heard a lot about Sichuan Impression and how they were a Michelin Bib Gourmand so decided to give them a try. Ordered their Flaming Pork Jowl - this one was a table favorite !! We all loved the table side flambé they did + the wrap with pineapple relish paired so well with the pork. We also got some other dishes to share like their fried rice, cold noodles, green beans, mini cumin lamb skewers and tea smoked ribs. This location is their newest so the layout and style is very modern. They also have a lot of private rooms for larger parties. Plenty of freparking
