Side Chick - Chicken & Fries

This place is the real deal! The hot chicken sandwich was perfectly crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, with just the right amount of heat. The pickles added a great tangy bite, and that bun? Soft, buttery perfection. The fries were seasoned beautifully and had that perfect crunch. You can tell they care about quality here. Super satisfying meal and definitely a spot I’ll be coming back to again. Highly recommend!

It was a spur of the moment order. We saw the sign once, and it was cute. Decided to order for a later night dinner pick up. The cashier was sweet and attentive when I arrived. The sandwiches , the western chick and the side chick were really good. We preferred the western out of the two the most as the bbq sauce and onion ring took it over the top. The special fries (can't remember which it was, think it was the cali chick) were good. I like them alot. They were too spicy for my boyfriend but I thought they were perfect as this is total preference. We will be going back to try some of the skinny chick options (grilled vs fried) i recommend trying this place for sure.

Tried this place for the first time. I even told the kid that it was the first time. Ordered the Western Chick, The Cali Chick, (asked for the avocado and tomato on the side,. They gave me 1 small avocado piece and 1 small tomato piece) $5 fries, large onion rings, 2 sides of coleslaw (I asked for the $3.00 ones and got the dollar ones I don't even know why they would sell that it is a tablespoon worth), side of pickles ( 4 little pickle pieces), and 3 side strips. I also asked for 2 dipping sauces one Korean and one of their special sauce. I waited over 10 minutes for the food (no problem) cost $46 gave them a few dollars tip. Got my food drove home 1 mile away and when I got home the first thing I tried were the fries. What a let down they were Limpy, cold and you could tell that they were the leftover scrapings because they had a bunch of chicken batter pieces and small burnt French fries. The rest of the food was tasty, The onion rings were hot and fresh. The sauces were just ketchup. Nothing more. They nickel and dime you here. I called and talked to a half Manager and he apologized and sent me a e gift card which was absolutely useless. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. I am white and they were Hispanic I honestly think that once they see a white person you will get the scrapings. My opinion. If I could have used this E-Card I might have tried the place again just to see. You can see below how the fries looked. The sauces I ordered were Bad-B sauce and Korean Chick sauce they gave me two ketchups. The Kid that took my order stapled the bag of food so I didn't see all this until I got home. I have tried to get ahold of the half Manager several times about giving me the E gift card he promised and it goes on deaf ears. This place is not worth your time or money.

Every time I've had side chick, I felt like I was the main course. Always consistent with the quality & portion size is off the charts. Enough for two to eat and be extremely full. But, also good enough to eat as leftovers, even WITH soggy fries. 10 out of 5 stars. I always get the Cali chick fries. (Chef kiss)!!

This is my go to spot! I always get skinny chick fries or Korean chick fries (in the pic) 🤤. A lot of food for $15 and no way you can finish it in 1 sitting without your stomach feeling like it’s gonna pop lol so definitely worth the price!

This place is a hidden gem of south east daygo!! Decent prices, generous portions, delicious food the side chick fries are my favorite thing to get from here.

BAD bad bad bad BAD just had this and i cannot recommend enough that you skip it completely. pictures on their menu are completely misleading. compare "fries" depicted on menu to soggy, mushy potatoes received. chicken sandwiches were beyond disappointing. the bread was stale. the hot honey sandwich had no hot honey. the chicken was not crispy/fried. one of the sandwiches was missing pickles. service was super slow and although hours say they close at 10pm, employees locked doors right at 9pm, and some people had to leave bc the doors were locked. truly so bad i don't understand the current 4.4 rating P.S. EDITING bc i forgot to mention that they charge you $0.50 for ranch, and it's freaking Hidden Valley

Been eyeing this place since they opened a few years ago and finally got to try today. Ehh it's good but nothing crazy to rave and rant about. It's connected to Manolo with its own entrance and bathroom and plenty of parking. The guy taking our order handling the iPad was also the person who made our food. Hopefully he wore gloves or washed his hands before handling our foods. We got 2 orders of hot chick sandwiches, 1 cali chick, and small onion rings. Okay for the price points of $7-8/sandwich it's pretty good for the portion of the chicken which was pretty thick and covered the entire buns. It was juicy and flavors complimented well. It paired well with the pickle and coleslaw inside. I got the hot chick and I eat pretty spicy and to say it was spicy and had a nice kick to it means it's on the spicier side for others. I could agree that it could've been drenched a little more. The onion rings were fried to perfection and had a nice little crunch.

Side Chick is a great name for this place! It is located inside the Mexican market on the side, hence the name. Lady was working alone so she did the best she could. I did take out. Korean chick: 5/5 The chicken was thick. It was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. I loved the pickled veggies and the crispy cucumber. I highly recommend Onion rings: 2/5 I love onion rings. Every chance I get to order it, I will. I won't order it here, however. Their portions are large but the onion came right out of the breading. It was not good at all. Basic chick: my hubby did not love good sandwich. The bbq sauce that came with it was just Ok. Loaded fries:3/5 the sauce was over powering. The chicken wasn't a crunchy.

This is how a chicken sandwich should be made! I'm mad I waited so long to finally give them a try. After ordering our food, we went next door to kill time and perused Manolo's while we waited. I didn't know that their store is open to Manolo's on one side, even though I go to that grocery store regularly. It took about 15 minutes for them to call us up, and then we brought our haul home to feast. The Hot Chick was immaculate, but you should definitely be able to handle heat and love spicy food because the Nashville hot breading and sauce are not for the weak. The Cali Chick was slightly spicy as well, with the combination of chipotle aioli and pickled jalapeños. We also ordered 4 chicken strips and a side of fries, which was enough to feed 3 kids (ages 11, 10 and 8). They give you a massive amount of fries and we had some left over. Because we brought the food home, the strips and fries got a little soggy on the ride, but a quick turn in the air fryer crisped them right back up. I'm already planning what to try next time.

I've been coming here for about a year and everything has been great until today. I placed an order for custom fries with Nashville hot chicken and what I got was RAW CHICKEN. Everything was good at first until I took a bite out of a flimsy piece of raw chicken. After feeling every chicken in the box, I pulled out around 3- 5 pieces of pink flimsy raw chicken. I loved chicken. I will never eat it again after this meal. I am truly traumatized. Thankfully, the staff were swift with me and were able to give me a refund. The food was good other times but sadly due to this, I will not take the risk of eating here and getting raw chicken again. Hoping I don't feel sick after this.

Don't let this place fool you!! It is small and doesn't have an indoor space to eat (just some tables outside) so plan accordingly. Nothing special about the service either but the food, the food is legit so good. One of the best fried chicken sandwich places I have tried. Not oily or greasy, very crunchy and well seasoned, good quality products. Ugh wish I lived closer to eat here again. My most favorite item was the fries with chicken on top some kind of slaw and the mustard sauce. Wow , really enjoyed this place and will def go back as I visit a few times a year

The Italian Chick basil aioli is delicious with the marinara and provolone. Hot and crunchy chicken breast. The Hot Chick is indeed hot. Dry seasoning brings the heat. Pairs well with coleslaw to mellow out, but still spicy. You will need to wait to get items, but food is made to order and fresh. I noticed people ordering fries entrees. I can only hope they are a good as sandwiches.

Debating whether this review should be one star or two due to the fact that they gave us a hard burnt Cali bun and due to the wait time. Giving it a two star because the fries had good seasoning. The wait was long, the cashier told us it would be a 15 min wait. After 20 min I asked if it was ready and he said 5 more min. 10 min passed and he hands me fries only, I asked "what about the bun?" He then realized that that our order was ready 10 min ago and was just sitting there behind him. When we went inside to check our order we got a smell of burnt food but didn't think they would still give out the BURNT chicken. It's definitely disappointing, you want to help out small businesses but when they don't care about the quality of food they make it makes you not recommend them to anyone.

It is fascinating as Side chick is next to and inside ( but with its own entrance) Manolo's farmers market. We ordered ahead and I am glad I did because they were busy with maybe two employees ( who were nice and welcoming) working. One of the menu boards showed elote corn, but unfortunately there were all out. The side chick was good, but could have used more sauce. The side chick fries were quite good and my wife liked the Korean chick. They are good, but I like my two favorites better.

Rate this food a solid 4.0, the full portion was 15 bucks (half was 10) and is well over enough food for 2 people. Fry to chicken ratio is almost 50/50 and the chicken and fries were still crispy and hot by the time we got home. The downsides of this place was that the service was slow, almost 15 minutes for my food when i arrived with no one in line/inside waiting. The biggest downside is that the hot chick sandwich and fries option are SPICY. Way more heat than disclosed but still enjoyable for a consistent spicy person. Otherwise maybe stick to the original style or ask before hand. overall got some good food and surprisingly good prices so forsure will be back.

From the super nice staff and the delicious *not greasy* fried chicken. Food was good. I had the bbq one and my dad had the kimchi one. It was delicious and came out fresh! Onion rings weren't my favorite, but they Weren't bad!

Had really high hopes and expectations for this place. Fries were pretty flavorless, the breading overpowered the chicken. Would go to a chain like Popeyes, kfc, or Chick-fil-A over this.

Ordered the hot chick for delivery and it was delicious!! I was worried it would get sorry so got the sauce and slaw on the side, everything was packaged as requested and the chicken arrived hot and crispy. The hot sauce was pretty hot, added a side of ranch to cool it a bit and it was perfect. The fries arrives pretty undercooked but I was able to crisp em up in the air fryer. I will ask for well done next time. Tip - Ordering through their website was cheaper than door dash for me by about $5, even with the delivery fee.

During Economic Blackout I just so happen to be cruising and noticed the sign Side Chick. I honestly thought they were making a play on chicken but when I saw that they had a woman on it I had to check them out. Side Chick is in a busy shopping center next to a Mexican Mercado. I believe the eating area was small but I did pickup so I wasn't paying much attention to the inside .The front had a couple of bistro tables to eat that looked pleasant. The lady was very friendly and explained to me the different sandwiches and I went with The Cali Chick which contains: chicken, jalapeño's ,avocado, onion, lettuce and tomato and I left off the chipotle sauce. I ordered 2 Mexican Glass soda pops of Cocoa Cola & Sprite. The big ones (16.9 oz) so I was excited and personally think they are better tasting than the ones in cans or soda machine. Overall service was fast and food was good and prices are reasonable.

Side chick is pretty good. Walking up, I don't expect much, but my 11 yr old nephew swears by it. Once we ordered and ate I was throughly pleased. The staff was nice and the food came out relatively quickly.

TL;DR: Crispy chicken sandos varying in different spice levels. You will likely sweat eating the Hot Chick. Fries are alright - nothing special. Chicken strips are solid side order for extra protein Ordered: Side chick (4/5): Really good chicken sando. Fried to a crisp and the chicken was juicy inside. Good flavoring with the pickles too Hot chick (3/5): point of caution - this sandwich is HOT. Like sweat uncontrollably for 15 minutes after your last bite. Same good textures as the side chick but arguably too hot where you don't taste anything but pepper Fries (3/5): flavor was good not great. That said, almost necessary to soak up the heat of the hot chick Strips (4/5): Solid side for the price too! Probably my go-to next time I'm back - great value! The sandwiches are awesome. If you're not a big savory fried chicken sandwich person, go for the grilled chicken option they have. They offer lemonades besides the soda, those were good as well.

Their sandwiches are insanely good. Crunchy and delicious. Juicy and the sauces are amazing. The only issue is sometimes the people on the phone. Have a hard time. Other than that they are very friendly inside and the staff is willing to go above and beyond health. Even if he makes a mistake, they Know how to fix it. Will be back!

Really cool local chicken spot located inside a Mexican market. Recently a second location was opened close to imperial Beach. Very friendly employees, you can tell the cooks are passionate about the food they make. Big selling point, the prices are very affordable, and the food quality is delicious. There's going to be plenty of parking because it's at a market. Two for one you can do a little grocery shopping and grab some food on the way out!! It's a pretty lively atmosphere as everyone is there to do some shopping, and then you smell that good chicken, and you know what happens next. My high recommendation would definitely be The western chick sandwich, and the side chick fries. Those fries are seriously loaded!!

It was very good, besides a lil soggy from ride home but after a lil toaster action it was crispy like you'd won't a waffle to be . I thought the chicken had great flavor, my friend said it was too much for her. But I found it to be perfect. It was worth the try! Thanks to the reviews I read!!! If I call to place an order and no one picks up the phone, why have one!!! Very annoying. Drove to the store and stood there, no one else in line, and 2 workers could not free themselves to take our order for 7 min so we left. Pretty good chx sandwich place! Definitely college kids working but he was super nice and friendly. This location was on the side of a grocery store which was interesting so I'm happy I went with take out. Lots of parking. The type of Hot for the spicy chicken is like a burning southern spicy and not like a chili pepper spicy. I would go back for the regular chicken sandwich FORSURE!! The fries were definitely like real potatoes I just wish they were crispier The sauce is dank!

I got a side chick, and I'm sorry, not sorry, but I'm not giving her up. She's mine. I was in the area visiting my chiropractor, Dr. Reese, and after trying a few times but being too early in the morning, I wasn't able to pay her a visit. I got some today, though, wink-wink. Side Chick is attached to Manolo's Grocery. Everyone at Manolo's and Side Chick were friendly and quick to say good morning! The stores were impeccably clean, parking was plentiful and easy, and the place was easily spotted from the street. They had just opened, and I was greeted right away. I wanted to try a bit of everything, and that's what I did. I ordered the Side Chick Fries, The Skinny Chick, Cali Chick, Hot Chick, 3 Tenders with fries and house made pickles, and the original Side Chick. My order came out within 5-10 minutes as promised, and as I was leaving, the place was filling up with customers. I'm usually monogamous, but man, this chick has my heart. I took everything home, and we promptly devoured it. Concensus was that the fries were amazing(said the person that doesn't really like fries), the side chick sauce was fire(from another that frequents chicken joints), and we all agreed the chicken was well seasoned, juicy, and tasty. I definitely can't wait to get some more of my side chick lol Bonus, I just found out they have two locations, another one in South Bay/IB. I'll be visiting that one soon, since it's closer to where I live.

This place is delicious! Side chick (Original Chicken) sandwich is EXCELLENT. They have great french fries and several versions of their sandwich. They are very customer service friendly. Hungry? Perfect. Call Side chick to get you right. Everything is well portioned fresh fried chicken delicious sauces. If you're feeling crazy, make sure to get the hot chick sauce if you dare... It's definitely a must try if you're in the area or driving off the 94 and a delicious bite.

We're having some yard and construction work done today, so I ordered the crew some lunch before they get started. Placed an online order for pickup. I went to pickup the order, about 4 or 5 miles away. The restaurant was clean and orderly, and they were busy with customers placing orders and waiting for orders, and my order was somewhere in between. Within a few minutes my order was ready. I picked up, placed in my vehicle and drove away, without checking it. I got home to separate the order for our work crew and the kids, and they shorted us a sandwich along with a misunderstanding on my part on how the chicken tenders were ordered. I immediately called, and they made everything right! Even offered a delivery of the missing items along with a little extra for the misunderstanding! I offered an extra tip for them coming out to deliver but they refused. Best customer service ever. They've earned a return customer for sure.

A solid 4.5 star establishment based on value, hospitality, generosity, and that it's a local small business. We stopped by after a workout for some chicken sandwiches. I was shocked by the price ($5-7) and was expecting them to be tiny slider sizes but they were pretty hefty! We were helped by Lalo who was incredibly hospitable and generous. He let us sample the different sauces and even let us try the different drinks! We had such a tough time picking between the Sandwiches because they were all really delicious but we settled on the Cali Chick (the chipotle sauce is so good) and the Korean Chick (the kimchi coleslaw was super refreshing) as well as a side of fries, a lemon/cucumber aide and a strawberry lemonade mixed with Jamaica. They also offered sodas, kombucha, and desserts from Manolo The drinks were served without ice... so that means all 16 Oz of your drink is delicious flavorful liquid. If you're concerned about it getting warm, drink fast or take it home and add ice! Both sandwiches were flavorful and well balanced. The fries were super plentiful and thick cut. Lalo also included one of each type of sauce they had as well as a hot chicken strip for free for us to try! My only critiques would be that the chicken could be a touch juicier and the fried a bit crispier. The patty is pretty fat so I'm sure they wanted to ensure it was thoroughly cooked. This is easily remedied by cooking the chicken at a higher temp for less time or by pounding the chicken slightly thinner. The delicious sauces and additions in the sandwiches made the slight chicken dryness barely noticeable though. Side chick is connected to Manolo supermarket so it's super convenient to come before or after shopping. There are outdoor tables as well as a few chairs inside! Come support this local shop and say hi to Lalo for me!

Cashier was friendly. Food took about 15-20 minutes. They were fairly busy. Ordered: Nashville - after kick, wasn't up front. Just okay. Tender - dry/stringy. Not a fan. Very crispy though. Fries - HUGE portion for $10. It had Franks red hot sauce and ranch. Flavor was just ok. I prefer dave's hot chicken because the chicken is more moist. This was a tad dried out.

I've been hearing good things about this eatery, so I was excited to try them out. Side Chick is connected to a grocery store, but has its own entrance. I ordered The Hot Chick, Side Chick Fries, a cucumber lemonade, and a fruit tart! Everything was made to order, so expect a small wait. The chicken in both entrees were so flavorful! The spicy sandwich had a nice kick to it. I loved the bite-size pieces of the chicken and fresh-cut fries as well. The agua fresca was also really refreshing and hit the spot. Definitely check this place out if you're a fan of chicken!

1st time trying a Side chick & it's family approved. Located next to or included as part of the Manolo farmers market. We've tried it a few times via delivery as well through either their website or door dash & UberEats. Brought my sis from out of town to check it out.

Side Chick is at the end of Manolo's grocery store, but has a separate entrance. They serve a variety of fried chicken sandwiches but you can also order it grilled if you'd like. The chicken is tender and crispy. Watch the spice if you order a spicy version. It can be quite hot. I personally love the chicken and waffles. Chicken tenders are big and meaty with a crunchy batter, and he waffles are the perfect size. I also love their fries! Crunchy and flavorful! They have new sandwich creations every few months so check them out.

This place is really good don't get me wrong I just had a problem with the bread we noticed there was a black spot on it. Wasn't sure it was mold or what so I called they said send pictures to the number I was one the phone with.. I still haven't gotten an answer.

Connected to Manolo, Side Chick offered a simple menu of chicken sandwiches, tenders and fries. They also had desserts and beverages chilled in shelves out front. Their prices were reasonable, with all of the sandwiches being $6 and under. Our order took 25 minutes to complete and I actually finished grocery shopping before the sandwiches were done. I saw an employee stopping next door to grab some ingredients so I'm assuming certain items weren't prepped prior. =ORDERED= Both sandwiches came with a side of honey mustard that was very sweet and honey forward. Personally would have preferred more sharpness from the sauce. *Cali Chick: precariously put together on top of a slab of cabbage. Wished the vegetables were cut and distributed better on the sandwich. Didn't have a single bite where everything was contained. However, the chicken was breaded well so it wasn't oily. *Side Chick: sad, goopy abomination. Coleslaw tasted like the classic mayo heavy grocery store version. Had more flavor than the Cali Chick but the brioche buns were soggy from the excess coleslaw runoff. Chicken was once again great and juicy though. Seeing that their chickens were fried well, I would stick to their chicken independent items. The sandwiches had elements that would go well together but not much care was given towards the elevation of ingredients or presentation. Perhaps their chicken tenders would be better but I wouldn't wait 20+ minutes for a soggy sandwich.

Ordered for pick. Once I arrived I saw it was a counter order kind of style. We told the cashier our order and he grab it for us. He offered the sauce used on the chicken. I ordered the Cali chick. I was super excited to try this place out. The chicken is seasoned well but the sandwich itself seem just tossed together. The Cali chick is suppose to have avocado on it but they were pretty stingy with it. Overall it's an ok place to grab a quick chicken sandwich. Hence the name I guess. Parking lot is spacious, they seem to be connected to a grocery store.
