Oakland Neighborhood Favorite, Sidebar, Is Getting an Update From the Couple Behind Bardo Lounge - Eater SF

"Sidebar owners Mark Drazek and Barbara Mulas are retiring and leaving their lakeside restaurant to Seth and Jenni Bregman of Bardo Lounge & Supper Club. The Bregmans own nearby Bardo Lounge & Supper Club, and Sidebar became their neighborhood spot, the place where they spent nights eating and drinking and chatting with neighbors; they wanted to preserve it, the couple says. And so with Drazek and Mulas’s help, the lakeside spot is changing hands and debuts Thursday, October 20 under the Bregmans’ helm. The majority of the staff will stay even as Bardo chef Amol Thanky and bar director Ben Dimond make some new additions to the food and drink menu, all while trying to maintain the neighborhood goodwill that Sidebar has built up since its debut in 2009." - Dianne de Guzman

What a great place we stumbled upon in downtown near Lake Merritt. The server was a delight, friendly, and engaging. I went along with his recommendations, and I have to say he was spot on. The place was clean , warm, and a good vibe, food was 5 star fresh and nicely presented

Amazing! We went with no reservations on a Friday night and easily got a seat at the bar. There’s a wide selection of wines, beers and cocktails and the staff are very helpful in giving suggestions. The food was fantastic! We had the Scottish salmon and the steak frites and both were delicious. The atmosphere was cosy and relaxed and service was quick. Will definitely go back!

I've traveled the world somewhat but this the best bar I've been t ever. From an amazing welcome at the door to a friendly bar man who on his first day here made me the perfect Daiquiri ever! Made from 18 year old rum. Highly recommend this place to anyone who visits Oakland! Food is very tasty too!

It was great ! We had dinner here and the waiter we had was very nice and funny. It was busy, but not too busy. When we got our food, it was very good and presentation was awesome! Highly recommended!

The food was phenomenal and the portions are hearty. This is a must visit for if you love cocktails. I don't have it pictured here but my sincerest recommendation is the "Caged Heat". It's not too spicy, it has just a little kick to on the back end. Atmosphere is good for a date, meeting with a friend, or venturing a long. Staff is polite as well. Here is one of my rare 5 stars.

Not the most welcoming bartenders speaking from a black girl experience. Although they had great cocktails and food, I would probably never go back.
