TL;DR: Sides of Seoul is a good place for Korean food in St. Louis, and I'd highly recommend trying it if you're hungry for Korean food in STL, but it's not top-notch Korean food by any means.
As of yesterday, SoS is still doing takeout only, so my group went to a nearby park to try this place out. We were happy to find a bunch of Korean favorites here: yookgaejang, jajjangmyun, cheese tteokboki, donkatsu, jjambong, and more! See the photo captions or the menu for descriptions of each.
The jjambong was the strongest item. I loved the chewiness of the noodles (not overcooked), and there was a good richness to the broth from the seafood. It was a little disappointing to see several of the shrimp hadn't been deveined, but the flavors and textures were right.
The yookgaejang was probably the biggest disappointment. The heart of this dish is a root called fern braken, which was basically not present in the soup at all. There was very little beef, and there was an overwhelming amount of bean sprouts. It reminded me very much of (bean sprout soup), so if you're a big fan of bean sprout soup, order the yookgaejang! I mean that sincerely. The flavors are good, it's just not yookgaejang.
The jajangmyun (black bean noodles), cheese tteokboki, kimbap, and the donkatsu all fell somewhere in-between the jjambong and the yookgaejang. Decent, but not amazing.
