The Signal Box Inn – Cleethorpes, England - Gastro Obscura

"The bar at the Cleethorpes Coast Light Railway station in Lincolnshire is a little different from other station pubs: it claims to be “the smallest pub on the planet.” The Signal Box Inn was opened in 2006 and spans a mere 64 square feet. The station it’s near is along a 1.2-mile narrow gauge railway line that mainly serves as a pleasure ride for tourists to Cleethorpes and nearby Humberston. The pub is situated in a genuine signal box, but in keeping with the scale of the 15 gauge railway, it is much smaller than one from a main railway. The eight-foot-by-eight-foot building feels a bit crowded with just six or so people inside it. But the small space has lively music, a dart board, and even a nine-hole golf course. A claim that it’s the smallest pub on the planet was once submitted to the Guinness Book of World Records but official recognition was not awarded. While this pub was clearly built to be able make the declaration of the “world’s smallest” and to catch the attention of travelers, its management take its role as a pub seriously and it serves a very wide range of craft beers and, in particular, 20 different ciders. Know Before You Go Parking (pay and display ticket) directly next to the station. Free parking just along the road on the other side. The main line railway station is about a mile from the closest CCLR station. This pub is only open from Easter (April) through mid-October." - lynzi42, Dr Alan P Newman, JethroJelly

This tiny little pub is a must visit if you're ever in/near Cleethorpes. The beer is very good, and there's a small but adequate selection of spirits and other drinks. The atmosphere around the pub is buzzing.

We love going to Cleethorpes and nearly always go to the Signal Box Inn. From the pier, you can either walk or get the Road Train (£2 each way) you get dropped at the light railway and you can either walk or go on the train. We’ve done both, over the years. It’s only just over half a mile to walk, which is what we decided to do yesterday, as it would have been £18.85 return, for us and the dog. We decided that we’d have a drink at the Inn and still be quids in, rather than go on the train, as we’ve done it before. The photos show our son getting taller, over the years. The Inn itself, is unchanging apart from the amount of tables outside. It’s very popular and has a great atmosphere. If you are ever in Cleethorpes, you need to visit the Inn - it’s an experience 😊

I relished the opportunity to visit the smallest pub in the world, appreciating its location in a former signal box next to a mini railway too as a train enthusiast! The counter is really good for its small size and the windows have been maintained from the signal box, wall adds coasters as decorations too. I nabbed a quick drink of mango cider, choosing inside although outdoor has plenty of seats for that option!

Day out in Cleethorpes and we were told about the smallest pub in the world so we had to pay a visit. The Signal Inn pub should be on everybody's day out list. Great people in the pub, a great selection of beers and spirits. Part of a large complex with at least one other bar a great food hall and we were lucky that they also had live entertainment on stage. A dog friendly place due to the huge amount of outdoor seating I do not think I've ever seen so many dogs in one watering hole. We were lucky the weather was great, but there is covered seating available as well and there is plenty of room for mobility scooters and wheelchairs. Plenty of other parking spaces as well. The food was very popular and looked very tasty we didn't eat because we were at the start of our pub crawl. Met a lovely lady called Donna Clifford, who was busy taking photos of the many dogs and drinkers for the Grimsby Flyer. Must also give a shout out to the landlord and staff who were so friendly and helpful.

Former signal box on the Cleethorpes Coast light railway. Reputedly the smallest pub in the globe. Nice selection of craft ales and ciders. Plenty of tables outside to enjoy a drink in the sun. Space for all mobility aids, scooters etc.

I'd read about this Tiny pub and it's claim to be the Smallest on the planet, so took the opportunity of nipping in for a pint, whilst in the Cleethorpes area, after a walk along the nearby beach. Worth a visit if only to tick off the list of quirky pubs and buildings. 👌

Yelp
This pub is hoping to get into The Guiness Book of Records as the worlds smallest pub. It is a signal box and is under six metres square. The cellar is a foot high brick enclosure outside. They sell a selection of Real Ales that changes regularly and costs about £2 a pint. It is so tiny you will probably have to drink out on the platform of this mini railway. They also do snacks at about £2 a throw. Open 11am to 11pm there is a bus stop outside so drink away. Very friendly so go buy a pint and have your photo taken in the worlds smallest pub.

Yelp
I visit here fairly regularly (my daughter loves the trains) so I occasionally get to have a swift pint. It is a bit of a novelty; being so small, but that soon wears off when it's not so warm and you're stood outside with a pint - especially in the rain! When we do have a bit of summer sun it's lovely stood out on the platform as the steam trains shuttle back and forth. The beer is good and the prices are reasonable. The staff are nice and friendly.
